10 Key Hotels with 10 Rooms or Less in Italy

"Fit for a prince: the 18th-century palazzo that houses Seven Rooms Villadorata (“golden villa”) was once the home of royalty. Set in the historic heart of the Sicilian town of Noto, it’s the kind of place that could easily feel overly formal or grandiose. But the owner has gone to great lengths to make this palatial Baroque-style residence feel warm and personable in addition to being, well, drop-dead gorgeous. Frescoed ceilings, stately columns, furnishings by the best Italian designers, check, check and check. But thanks to smart planning and attention to detail, there are also countless quaint and cozy spaces waiting to be discovered." - The MICHELIN Guide

7 Rooms Villadorata

"The first time you drive down Noto's narrow via Cavour looking for this charming hotel (a luxurious bed and breakfast, really), you’ll see the discreet sign just too late: right after you’ve rolled past it. The second time around, you’ll stop and ring the bell. The blank-faced doors will swing open, revealing the courtyard of the 1733 Palazzo Nicolaci, where you will leave your car. From that moment, your stay will be a succession of little delights. Many of the handsome, high-ceilinged rooms overlook the courtyard and its palm trees, others the cloister-like former fish market where the original owners once augmented their fortune in the tuna business. In a little pantry in the public area is gear to make coffee and tea, and a balcony on which to drink them. At breakfast on the terrace upstairs, you will eat what seem like the best croissants in Italy, sometimes served by the proprietor, Cristina Summa. —Edward Schneider"

"In 1774, Corrado Nicolaci was granted the title of Prince of Villadorata, and his palace in Noto became a showcase of the family’s prestige. The former Palace of the Princes. Some modern conveniences with a peek into the historical opulence of a castle. Great location and a very accommodating staff. Huge rooms and common areas. Some nice amenities. Complementary WiFi, Nespresso, breakfast. Croissant and pastries are THE BEST!

You feel like nobility the moment you arrive at this beautiful palace. Our room was simply gorgeous with high ceilings, lovely furnishings, huge windows and a balcony that looked out over the wonderful city of Noto. In addition we had a stunning sitting room just outside and an incredibly gracious staff that brought breakfast to our room every morning. All the details at the hotel are perfect, including the delicious cookies in the room. Most of all, the three people we met at the reception desk over our three day stay were kind, generous, and helpful. Nothing seemed like a problem and they provided great recommendations for restaurants and sites. They explained that the owners of the palazzo want you to feel like you are a guest of theirs--and you truly do.

An incredibly beautiful place to stay right in the heart of Noto. It’s a beautiful old palazzo and you can’t beat the location. The service is excellent - very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about Noto and surrounding area. They easily helped with any requests. The touches of class and sophistication are everywhere. I came last year and thought the place was great. This year they added a rooftop aperitivo terrace which was a perfect place for sunset and pre dinner gathering for us. I even got to interact with the owner of the place who was lovely. One additional thing I didn’t do last year was to go use the pool at the sister property Country House a few minutes away by car. Very different vibe but great mix with the palazzo in town. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a five star type stay in Noto. It’s close to everything including Norma’s which is the best place to eat. You really get to experience Noto with this hotel.

This is a spectacular property - the photos do not do the scale justice. Everything about our stay was perfect - service, cleanliness, design, in-room amenities etc. There is a sister property outside of Noto with an amazing restaurant where we had a world-class dinner. This is a wonderful and extremely memorable base to explore Noto and the surrounding Baroque towns.

What a wonderful stay in Noto at Seven Rooms! Alberto and Martina were excellent hosts and it was very convenient to have all of their recommendations by WhatsApp each day. An extremely high level of service with personal touch in a historic house. We stayed in the Austro Suite which had breathtaking views and we would happily come back. Having Caffè Sicilia and the Duomo within a two minute walk was a real treat. ||We are so glad we based in Noto and day tripped to Marzamemi, Ragusa, and Modica. Ten out of ten.

Gentrified living one beautiful moment at a time!||It’s not Michelin rated because it sells tires; instead, it is entirely fabulous!||Entering the courtyard is a gentle experience in and of itself, reminding one of the idea that Sicilians built beautiful things like they will live forever….||Greeted outside by the charming staff as we stepped out of our car made us feel invited and wanted at this magnificent retreat.||The rooms are historically grand with beautiful, personal balconies where breakfast is served every day.||Seven Rooms is clearly not a mass produced, pedestrian flop house catering to the trampling masses. ||It is quite the opposite, and completely at the other end of the spectrum.||It is a luxurious, restful respite and a breathing place for the soul.||Favoloso!||“...On the sixth day,
God accomplished His work
And, pleased with all the beauty
He had created,
He took the Earth in His hands,
And kissed it.
There, where He put His lips,
That’s Sicily.”
