San Diego’s Best Coffee Roasters and Cafes

"A standby at farmers markets across the city, Seven Seas operates its roastery out of its flagship brick-and-mortar cafe in South Park. Try the shop’s pour-over or a chaga latte, a double shot of espresso with Chaga mushroom powder, or a wide array of avocado toast varieties, including one sprinkled with Seven Seas coffee grounds for an extra dose of energy, should you need one." - Helen I. 17 Remarkable Coffee Bars to Discover in Orange County | Eater LA

"Despite the walls and the logo, an American-style tattoo is not a prerequisite for entrance to this charming coffee shop; instead, all are welcome and greeted with resounding warmth from the staff. Google
One of my favorite coffee shop in SD. Can’t dock them stars for their service because the taste is outstanding! Also peep the pup cups 🐶 berries & peanut butter drizzle… how sweet🥰

Google
Decent coffee, but the shop was very noisy which spoiled the experience for us. I believe the barista was cleaning out the coffee machine creating a loud noise, which I was surprised by since it was during open hours.

Google
Very helpful and friendly baristas. Helped us figure out beans for our new automated espresso machine. Found decaf espresso beans there which has been difficult. The desserts looked unique and amazing so we will be returning for those. We got a cappuccino and it’s delicious. Ambience was warm and inviting. Decor was capturing and enjoyable (they have a large fish tank in the back wall and giant bags of coffee beans against the wall underneath it). The space was clean, had great lighting. We will be regulars here.

Google
Loved my visit to Seven Sea Roasting and I think you will too, read more to see why: 1. Let's start with the coffee, it's great! Tastes like they know what they are doing. Perfect temperature, great flavor, all around great. Highly recommend for the coffee. 2. Service, there is something about San Diego coffee shops where I walk in and get a drink a few minutes later. It's amazing. Super fast and high quality. Also, the people working were kind and helpful. Helped me find a treat for my daughter who can't have gluten. 3. Love the details in the space. Awesome aatmosphere. For coming at 7:30 in the morning the place was active. Seems like a spot a lot of people enjoy. Good attention to detail. Highly recommend checking this place out, see photos to get a sense of the space.

Google
Cute, trendy coffee shop in South Park. Street parking only but I didn’t have trouble finding a spot at 2pm on a Wednesday. There’s indoor seating, a long table at the window where you can choose to sit inside or out, and a handful of outdoor seating that seat 2-3. My friend and I told the barista that it was our visit here and he gave us a rundown of what to try. He was very friendly and patient! There’s a big menu on the wall by the register and a small menu for their seasonal flavors. I got the Marigold Mocha Latte with almond milk— loved the shaved pistachios on top. They stopped serving food at 2pm so unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the bagels that I see raving reviews about! My first time here but won’t be my last. I’d love to come back and try out other coffee flavors and their food!

Google
Wow. What a gem! Amazing coffee, friendly staff and you gotta try the croissant donut OMG! Definitely recommend it, definitely coming back.

Google
Tried this for the first time at the farmers market and I am in looooove! I’m an avid coffee drinker but I have been underwhelmed with a lot of cute coffee shops/trucks not having good quality coffee. A lot of places put too much milk or sweeter or don’t have good quality coffee. I tried them at the north park farmers market with a few friends and we ALL loved our drinks which hasn’t happened for years. We tried a latte, the cold brew, and a chai and all of them were great! Perfect flavor, good quality coffee, and not too much sweetness. I will definitely be going to their storefront location for my caffeine fix and to get some grounds for home!

Google
All the baristas here are always very friendly and no matter how busy they are I never feel rushed ordering. They have a variety of fresh Avacado toasts that are nice for a quick breakfast with your coffee as well as some pastries. Their drip is decent and they always have fun an seasonal lattes that aren’t overly sweet

Yelp
Finally got the chance to try this spot on Wednesday morning, the place wasn't super busy but definitely lively Staff is super nice as they were chatting with other patrons and among themselves while still being efficient and patient with those ordering The cherry bomb latte was super yummy and I'm definitely going to come back and try some of their summer menu items! There is some inside and well as outside seating and parking wasn't too bad either although it is on the same street as a neighborhood

Yelp
I got a latte and avo toast (el siete mares). The latte was good, I like that they have a visual guide on what kind of milk you like. The avocado toast was special, as the ingredients tasted super fresh! There's an aquarium inside too, which lends to the maritime aesthetic and theme of the cafe. I thought the service was pretty good, the staff are nice and fun.

Yelp
I have been here a couple times, and each time the service has been so friendly. They are often quite busy, but they move fast. I haven't had their food yet, but I have gotten stuff from their pop up vendors they have occasionally. Their coffee is great - I love they work directly with farmers and roast their own beans. My husband and I both love how you can just point to a picture when telling them how much cream/milk to add. Most places always put too much, and this way it's always perfect! Recently I got one of their seasonal lattes - the rose cardamom. I'm not always a flavored latte gal because they tend to be really sweet. The guy taking my order said it wasn't too sweet, and he was right. I loved the flavor without it tasting like sugar. I need to go and try food next time. When in South Park, definitely stop by if you haven't before!

Yelp
Dropped in for a quick snack and drink and was reminded of how amazing this place is. They are warm, welcoming and quick! Shout out to Kevie for making us amazing drinks today and for the nice chat. We love the menu and that beautiful fish tank was lovely. Not pictured is the super nice cinnamon roll they had that I'll be dreaming about for days!

Yelp
As a San Diego native there's 2 things we don't need more of Crystal shops & Coffee bars with horrible coffee. Came In because of your Instagram page advertising a pumpkin pie spiced lattee . Well needless to say was told they don't have any ingredients to even make what was recently advertised. So I ordered an iced vanilla oat latte . Sailor what is this ? It's horrible and thick . It reminds me of an expired MRE vanilla shake made with the waters of Camp Fallujah in the middle of summer .

Yelp
The baristas here are experts. Twice now I've been here and ordered single origin espresso beans and they have been two of the best drinks I've ever had. One a cortado, another a cappuccino. The beans they use are a medium roast, with some nice bright notes. I usually don't notice these notes at most coffee shops but here it was so obvious. That's how good these baristas are. It came out very smooth, which is how it show be. Ambiance is cool, if this shop was in downtown I'd be there twice as much.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and LOVE the place. I recommend it to others when I can. The coffee and service are great and the location is very accessible. It's in a nice, walkable area of South Park with lots to see and the grape st dog park is just a few blocks away :) The most recent time I visited, I tried the rosemary sea salt bagel and was blown away!! Best bagel I've had in a long time. Can't wait to be back here.

Yelp
Trying out different coffee places in San Diego & this is a great place to add to your list to try out. It's a cute & quaint little place off of 30th in North Park and it's right next to the baby Target. Beautiful minimal and industrial design that makes it feel cozy. It can get crowded pretty quickly and the seating is limited, but it's a nice outing. I ordered the Lavender Honey Latte and my partner got the Cappuccino with a Belgian Waffle. Definitely 10/10, a great coffee for a reasonable price! Try it! Definitely coming back soon to enjoy coffee while it's pouring rain in Sunny San Diego!
google avatar

Cherish F.

Yelp
The coffee is good and they have a tasty seasonal menu. I also love getting the homemade poptarts or an avocado toast. Don't forget to sign up with their rewards program.

Yelp
Great coffee! caramel latte Brown sugar rosemary latte Marshmallow latte Their drip is amazing :) 3-4 tables to work from Outdoors seating Good WiFi Parking could be a challenge, but it's worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff and cute little shop along our walk. There's seating outside but pretty small inside. Had the cinnamon latte and almond croissant (not photographed). The almond croissant didn't look appealing but I still chose to try it and let me tell you the filling was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, they don't have pup cups :/ which I hope changes.

Yelp
Got the Iced Cinnamon Honey Latte from their truck at the farmer's market! It was a tasty drink that wasn't overly sweet. The honey was subtle and the cinnamon was lightly added in the drink. The price is average for a coffee, around $6. I would definitely come visit the actual shop and try their other drinks.

Yelp
Located across the street from a Target and it is several blocks away from the 94. The street parking usually isn't too bad if you don't mind walking a block or two. The shop has a few indoor and outdoor seats. Their staff are very friendly and quick to help with any concerns. For the true coffee enthusiasts, they have bags of beans that they freshly roast in the corner of the store. Usually I get the Cherry Bomb, but haven't been able to visit as often as before. Went for the winter menu last month. Blackberry & Hibiscus Tonic was done with grapefruit because they had ran out of blackberry and was very tart. Brown Sugar Rosemary hit the spot for floral flavored pick-me-up. Toasted Marshmellow was a warm delicious treat. I'm not usually a fan of salted caramel, but that Salted Caramel Apple Cider was crazy good.
google avatar

Aurianna B.

Yelp
This place is so cool! Great vibes from the atmosphere and the baristas. The guy behind the counter recommended the blackberry vanilla and it was exactly what I needed, not too sweet. My sister ordered the triple coconut and that was also amazing (tasted like a coconut paleta)! I'd definitely stop in again when close to South Park.

Yelp
Unfortunately, there has been no Acknowledgement of my needs that I brought up. I Know Covert Narcissism when I See it. Great Coffee, Just Horrible Care for Customers.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great place to get coffee and a fancy avocado toast. The service was great, very friendly and very fast. The ambiance was very cool and rustic. With always fresh a romas of coffee that it was so good with good internet to do some work while you eat well.

Yelp
A nice & friendly small coffee shop located in South Park. There is indoor & outside sitting. They offer a variety of drinks and pastries + some food... I ordered the 'iced Cherry bomb latte 3/4 sweet.' It is a double shot of their signature blend espresso, mixed with cinnamon, and a cacao and cherry syrup. These flavors paired well with each other and you could taste the cherry/mocha & espresso. The drink wasn't overly sweet, which was nice. I will definitely come back and try other items.

Bailey S.

Yelp
Ordered from grub hub. Disappointing. Nothing looked anything like the pictures. "Wood fired" bagel was soft and even a big wet/soggy on top - was not even toasted. Latte had no foam. Toast looked nothing like what I ordered and was a mess of covered romaine lettuce. Wouldn't order here again. Maybe it's better in person but still some super unrealistic advertising.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little quaint place! Took my cousin visiting from Modesto, CA. Great coffee. Will definitely be going back.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for so long now, but never found myself passing through South Park for coffee. When I finally got the chance, I was so excited to stop by and grab a latte. I love how you can taste how fresh and smooth the espresso is, even with the cup mostly full of oat milk lol They roast their own beans in-house, so I can't wait to go back to grab some beans. The staff was very nice and patient with me, which I appreciated. The shop is a bit small, with a few tables and chairs, but so quaint, especially in the darling neighborhood of South Park with the overarching trees down Fern St. My visit here was so pleasant and sweet, it inspired to take my hot girl walk around the neighborhood sipping on my latte. This may sound dramatic and straight out of a Wes Anderson movie, but I just loved it!
google avatar

Yelp
Really high quality coffee. Friendly service Came with my dog who was welcomed with open arms and a treat If I lived around here I would come as much as my wallet allowed
google avatar

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday morning and didn't have trouble finding parking on the street. The coffee shop is small but the space has a lot of personality and the staff are friendly and helpful. I tried the seasonal blackberry vanilla latte and it was so flavorful and rich! The blackberry was really potent and complemented the vanilla and coffee unexpectedly well. The barista mentioned they make their syrups in house. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
First time visit here! Drinks were nice and hot!! Been looking around the neighborhood for a good cup of flat white. This place did not disappoint! Flat white was hot and had the right amount of foam (which should be minimal). The coffee had a nice and clean finish, not dry or bitter :) Ps. Thank you to the person who saved us from the spider from the ceiling! Pps. I want to take the board that my flat white came in
google avatar

Tanya K.

Yelp
Really cute coffee shop in the South Park neighborhood! I stopped by before work and was able to easily find street parking. I got a seasonal drink which was a hazelnut ganache mocha? It didn't taste very much like a mocha to me, but I still enjoyed the drink! It was pretty sweet at first but could start to taste some of the more nuanced flavors after a bit. They also have a great pastry selection so I got a mini matcha bombolini and while the matcha flavor wasn't very strong, it was a really good bombolini with a perfect pillowy fluffy texture. There was a decent amount of seating inside and saw some people doing work, but there's also a few small tables outside on the side walk for those who want to sit outside!
google avatar

Faith D.

Yelp
I was nearby and looking for coffee when I stumbled upon this place. Vibe was really relaxed and chill and the line wasn't too long. They were quick to make drinks so I was in and out fairly quickly with my honey lavender latte. Flavors were strong and I did enjoy my drink. I will say that the service was neutral, leaning on the cold side. Other than that it was a good coffee and might swing by but only if I'm already in the area
google avatar

Bienna Marie L.

Yelp
One of my coworkers and I's go-to spots for a pick me up! We all usually get different drinks each time. They also love their avocado toasts! But I especially loved their latest seasonal drink which is their vanilla berry latte. Staff is always so friendly. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
I came back to San Diego to see family and friends and I was searching on Google for coffee roasters in the area. 7 Seas caught my attention due to its cool art and unique style. So I went on Yelp and looked up the drinks online. I am so glad I found this place. I seriously went here every day and it was consistent and amazing. I ordered a reg latte, vanilla latte and the cold brew...some other drinks that were amazing too. Everything here is flavorful and delicious. The roasts are amazing. They also have cool merch with old-school tattoo art. Ordered another tee online. Love u 7 seas!!! Come to this place you won't regret it!!!

Yelp
TOAST! So many toasts, so many roasts. When I was searching for an apartment I stopped by this coffee shop to get a quick bite and coffee to refuel while I checked local listings on renter websites, and I was surprised to see how many different types of toast this place offers. Savory, sweet, you name it. It's just the right amount of food paired with a coffee, the ingredients were all fresh, and in addition to the toast actually being good enough to warrant a double-digit price tag, the other options all look worth trying as well. I love that the salmon toast (El Siete Mares) has REAL slices of ACTUALLY smoked salmon on it. Now enough about toast. This place is obviously coffee-first and that's fine because the two drinks I've ordered here have been stellar and refreshing, not only in taste but in concept. The honey lavender is a safe bet at most coffee shops, so I ordered this the first time I visited. I ordered a Left Hand Black on my second visit, which I believe had sparkling water and lemon syrup in with the espresso, which I think is an awesome combination. The first time I had tried something like this was at the Starbucks reserve in Seattle, then again at a local coffee shop in LA. So glad to know I can come back here for a well-made drink of these specific flavors. And even if it's on a day where they aren't serving toast, there's still food to be eaten, my hungry friends. On those days I've noticed they have businesses selling food in front of the shop, which may always be the same or maybe it changes. On my second visit this was the case, and the business was the Spot, which serves a small selection of breakfast/brunch items. I ordered the Puro Pa from them and I almost forgot my name as I was eating it (very tasty). The employees are friendly, too! Cool fish tank, though not a ton of seating or space for as busy as it gets (it's a small shop).
google avatar

Jenna V.

Yelp
I ordered the cinnamon honey latte with oatmilk. It was perfectly balanced in terms of flavor and sweetness. It was pretty busy when I came, but the drink came out in a reasonable amount of time. There is limited indoor seating, but it's very cozy inside. Highly recommend Seven Seas.
google avatar

Kristin D.

Yelp
Not your average avocado toast. On the pricier end for avocado toast but worth every penny. From the presentation to the flavors everything was top notch.
google avatar

Ryann H.

Yelp
I love a small cozy coffee shop. And this does not disappoint. The coffee here speaks for itself. They have strong coffee and offer something for everyone. They have good ol strong black coffee and then specialty drinks that are amazing...definitely check it out!
google avatar

Megan T.

Yelp
Best coffee, delicious food, friendliest faces! Plus of very cute fish in the aquarium.
google avatar

Brittany A.

Yelp
I got the prosciutto avocado toast and an iced vanilla latte! That avocado toast was PACKED!! It was so worth it's price as well as the drink being in a nice sized glass. The staff was really kind and brought my food to me and actually came and picked up my dish which they didn't have to but it was so kind of them! Nice area outside in South Park area to just sit and talk! And the iced latte was super good. They also have their own bottled coffee in their drink section, which I thought was super cool and it also seems like they make their own coffee blends! They were turning the coffee beans right in the shop! Which was cool to see.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because the nitro and donut were excellent. --- --- --- I needed caffeine and a little something sweet. Seven Seas delivered. I had just eaten lunch and was soon to head to the airport. The only logical thing for me to do was get some coffee and something sweet to wash lunch down. I looked up coffee near me and Seven Seas was only a couple of blocks away and had excellent reviews. Say no more, Yelp. They had nitro on the menu, which means - I ordered nitro. Their pastry case was fairly cleaned out since it was already after lunch time, but they had some interesting little donuts left. The guy told me they were vegan, which was a little bit of a deterrent, but I figured it was worth a shot. The donut hit the spot - just the pinch of sugar that I needed. And the nitro was perfect. Oh, and the guy who rang me up had a fun accent, so it was really a banner experience all around. When I'm back in San Diego again, I will be happy to come back!
google avatar

Ivy N.

Yelp
I decided to come here as a post workout treat. The space is cute with seating along the wall but pretty small. There were a lot of outlets inside so if you're able to snag a spot then you can study here. The service was very friendly. I got their summer special, the triple coconut latte. If you like coconut, I'd highly recommend this one! It tastes very strongly of coconut and is perfectly sweet. There are even coconut bits on top that pairs well with the latte. I would return again if I am in the area!

Yelp
While we were waiting to go to brunch, we walked around the farmers market in the area and discovered Seven Seas Roasting, which was definitely something we needed for a morning pick me up after a super early morning flight. The coffee shop is like a mini food truck and you can go up to it and place your order at the counter. - Depth Charge w Oat Milk - Honey Cinnamon Latte w Oat Milk The weather was 80°, so we definitely needed something that was cold that would wake us up and cool us down. After we ordered our coffees, it only took about five minutes before they were ready and they called out our order and we were able to retrieve it. Both coffees were delicious. The debt charge was a coffee and espresso combined and was smooth to the taste, and not overly bitter or sour. The honey cinnamon latte was very smooth to drink with a nice sweetness from the honey but was not overpoweringly sweet.
google avatar

Paula P.

Yelp
They never disappoint here @ Seven Seas Roasting. It's been awhile since I have visited the brick & mortar, more often I can catch them in the truck and the local Farmers Markets. Great people, great service and delicious coffee. The location is ideal in South Park. Plenty of street parking, room to sit in and out with great vibes al around! I will continue to be a customer!

The Puerto E.

Yelp
7 seas has really gone downhill they ran out of cups and sleeves the batista was super rude when I told her the lid didn't fit right. Hot coffee spilled all over my chest. There is so many other better places in the area now. Try secret sister, the ambiance at 7S use to be nice , I've lived in Golden-Hill for over 15 years now seen so many different people at 7 seas if your not part of this crews social circle they treat you like crap.
google avatar

Ann Marie S.

Yelp
Cool place to hang out! Staff is very friendly and ambiance is great. You can enjoy your coffee and people watch. Had the coconut latte wit oatmilk and it was delish! Also had an avocado toast and it was great!
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
I'm a bit of a critic when it comes to coffee and thought this coffee was delicious. Ordered a decaf coffee with oat milk and didn't disappoint! Barista was nice and cool vibe inside. Loved the fish tank!
google avatar

Evelyn H.

Yelp
Chaga Latte Iced w/ Oatmilk Love the ambiance, the coffee, and the friendly and fast service.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
This spot had the best coffee of all the shops I visited during my trip. It's ambiance was meh, but the coffee really shined through for me. I ordered the iced cinnamon honey latte with oat, and my friends each ordered hot speciality lattes. I can't remember which ones, but theirs stole the show. Get the rosemary sea salt bagel! Mmm mm mm.
google avatar

Rox G.

Yelp
My friend took me here and I fell in love with the chai latte, service is always amazing the team is so friendly and patient.

Yelp
This place has awesome coffee! All of the drinks are worth trying. Plus the baristas have great customer service and are always welcoming. I really like the Coconut Latte, as well as the Vanilla Latte. I've never had a bad experience with either. I always highly recommend this coffee shop to people who are looking for a great cup of coffee!
google avatar

Hope K.

Yelp
Situated in the quaint little neighborhood of South Park (also where I happen to call home), this coffee shop is an essential stop. It's tiny, I mean really quite tiny, but it's mighty. It's a traditional tattoo take on a coffee shop situated right next to, you guessed it, a tattoo shop. My go-to drink is the Lavender Honey Latte with oat milk. It never misses! Although they ran out this time, they also have these little donuts that are vegan. The Mixed Berry flavor is to die for. Seriously best donut i've ever had and i'm not even vegan. And last but not least the staff is always very friendly, helpful, and quick.
google avatar

Juzenne C.

Yelp
came today for the 100th time and we always order the same thing, 2 cherry bomb lattes. it's just too delicious! the service was great, Aaron and Kayla were super welcoming, nice, and gave my dog lots of love. The service was really fast, even though they were so busy! will be back again and again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food had the chocolate chip banana bread yumberz. And the Chaga Latte that Aaron and Rosana recommended for me was especially good.

Michael S.

Yelp
Nice little coffee shop! I had tried their specialty coffee and it was very good. I had also tried their avocado toast which also was perfect for a quick lunch.
