How to Spend a Food-Filled Weekend in California’s Mount Shasta | Eater SF

"A local favorite for breakfast and lunch with a full coffee menu and grab-and-go options. The breakfast burrito is a cheesy, egg-forward item that can be customized with bacon, ham, a sausage patty, or Cajun sausage, and comes with a sauce cup of salsa. The cafe stocks trail bars and pre-packaged snacks for hikers and provides seating for those who prefer to linger over coffee and lunch." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
Everything was amazing about this place. I had just finished hiking Mt. Shasta and was starving. I saw that they served breakfast and coffee and had to go. I ended up getting a breakfast burrito with bacon and to drink I ordered a vanilla Italian cream soda. Both were amazing. Oh! And try the chocolate cake!! I saw that they have vegan desserts like cookies and bars. I didn't try them, maybe next time. There is seating inside and outside you just have to walk around and look while you wait for your food.

Google
I loved everything about this place! I was driving for about 7 hours and wanted to sit down. I really enjoyed the decor, my only gripe was that they served their delicious sandwich in a to-go container. I would have loved a dish to eat my meal in such a nice place.

Google
Got breakfast here a couple times, good breakfast burritos but nothing to write home about. Coffee is good, would drink again. They also have an available water dispenser to guests, which is nice because I hate having to ask for water. Check it out and support local Mount Shasta business instead of going to Starbucks.

Kate Rudelman

Google
Great spot for tasty and nutritious breakfast. Everything is made from scratch. We had an Asian roll and breakfast roll. Both were huge and we’ve taken some away They also have a wonderful patio with the view to the mount Shasta. Totally recommend !

Google
Avoid if you are a person of color and don't want to ruin your day by facing racism. The food was good but the cashier was really rude. The wait time for getting 2 burritos was 40 minutes. Had the veggie wrap and a coffee.

Katie McLaughlin

Google
Super tasty & love they were open early. Great pre-Shasta climb breakfast! Also great they had a tofu (non-egg) breakfast option!

Google
I had the breakfast burrito and a latte. The burrito was extremely bland… Not even basic salt and pepper in it. The salsa helped a little bit, but it was pretty bland also. The latte was extremely hot and I had to wait over 10 minutes before I could start drinking it. It was not very flavorful either. Quite disappointed for a $20 brunch. Giving two stars because the service was pretty good. Although no one working the counter or in the kitchen knew what ingredients they use in the baked goods, which I really wanted to try. I have an allergy to certain sugars, but no one could tell me what they use; they said only the baker knows.

Google
I am from Mount Shasta and I always make a point to come back here multiple times when I am in town. The breakfast burrito is special and they have excellent coffee. They kept the tradition of the old Has Beans and made it much better. I know the family, as I grew up with their kids, and they are some of the hardest working people I have ever met in my life. Their effort shines through in the quality of service, attention to detail, and friendly smiles behind the counter. Stop by and get an authentic Mount Shasta experience! Highly highly recommended!

Yelp
Love, love, love! I love everything about these people. Except for that everybody else has found out about them and it can get busy. The people behind the counter greet you. They're friendly. They seem to care. The coffee is good. The patio is super pleasant. The food is good. I will drive across town, past other coffee places, to go here.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast and ordered the meat lover's burrito and an iced Mexican mocha. The mocha was decent, but let's talk about that burrito. Sure, the place was packed and I waited about 30 minutes, but honestly? I'd wait another 30 without hesitation. They did not hold back on the meat. Every bite was loaded, and the flavors were on point. The homemade salsa brought it all together with just the right kick. I was full after just half, but couldn't stop myself from taking bites from the second half. Perfect stop before a hike or just a great way to kick off your morning in Shasta.

Yelp
Without many choices on a monday morning, we walked over to this coffee shop to start our day in Shasta. Place was bustling with locals and visitors. Cute spot, chairs/tables out front or under a covered patio, along with a few tables inside the compact cafe. Loved the coffee mugs on display for sale and was tempted by more than a few of them! There's nothing like the smell of coffee so I was ready! It's hard when you only have a first impression but service wasn't friendly. I'm on vacation and chipper and was met with what felt like, annoyance. Again, first impressions, might've been a hard morning, but that's all I have to go on. Ordered a jalapeno bagel with cream cheese and a black coffee. The coffee was fine, better than the hotel room option. :) The bagel was... ok. Pretty dense, not spicy at all, kind of an odd texture for a bagel. Didn't taste bad, good amount of cream cheese. Overall, if I were staying within walking distance, I'd probably return for a coffee but might go elsewhere for a morning food start.

Yelp
Meat lovers breakfast burrito and a Mexican Mocha was my order. Overall, very filling, salsa had a nice little kick, customer service was on point and they have pretty good coffee.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with my quick stop in Mt. Shasta. I very rarely give a low score; however, I just couldn't eat my lunch today. I ordered an Asian salad. It came drowned in dressing. I couldn't eat it, which never happens. Only 4 mandarin oranges. I think there were a few wonton strips and almonds but I couldn't tell in all the dressing. The lettuce was so fine like shredded lettuce so it didn't feel like a salad at all. Pieces of pre-sliced pieces of chicken with no flavor. The advertised warm bread was a couple pieces of toast. I posted pics so u can see it looks like soup. I did suggest to the server that they not use so much dressing as I could not eat the salad. I threw it away. She did offer to make another one which is why they get two stars. I didn't have time to wait and didn't have confidence in getting a new one that would be better.

Yelp
Had the veggie burrito and granola cookie. Burrito was huge and filling. Granola cookie was soooo tasty! I wanted to try the ranger cookie but they were sold out, and I'm glad they were so I could try the granola one. Patio with order pickup window is super cute and dog friendly. Indoor seating looked very nice too. I would come back to try their other pastries and 10 more granola cookies.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
Cute little cafe! I got the chai and a bagel. The bagel was pretty good, but the chai was amazing! Only improvement I'll suggest is that they add a cream cheese and lox bagel to the menu.

Yelp
Second time we went it just got progressively worst. Lady at front was rude and unapologetic and this is two times the kitchen is closed. I wouldn't never rely on these guys in your plans for food. Only coffee. I guess food is a bonus if you ever get the chance but they are either out of food or their cook doesn't show up. Pretty embarrassing stuff you'd think for a restaurant. Been to a lot of popular slammed restaurants and never do I hear those excuses. Pathetic.

Deepak C.

Yelp
The lady who took our order was very rude. She said she'll call out the order when it's ready, but she never did. For another order of people sitting next to us, she did the same thing. And then said, you should have come earlier and your food might be cold now. When asked about having a choco chip cookie, she said can come out and read what cookies are there in the jars displayed. I get that you're busy but belittling, misguiding and being rude is no way to behave. DO BETTER! NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN!

Yelp
Seven Suns is a wonderful place for breakfast, lunch, coffee and bakery items. The place is so very cute, not large, but homey. It is so very clean, well stocked and the service can't be beat. You will love everything about it. It is vegetarian friendly. It has this pretty brick front and inside has the most wonderful smell of baked goods and coffee. We went for breakfast. We had their breakfast burrito, their breakfast sandwich and their veggie wrap. All of it was perfect. The breakfast burrito was filled with various cheese, hash browns and bacon. All made to order as was the breakfast sandwich which has cheese, scrambled eggs, sausage on a wonderful croissant. You can also have it on bread or a bagel if you want. The veggie wrap has avocado, eggs, cheese, onions and hash browns. There are variations you can get on all of these items as they are made to order. They are delicious. They also have great coffee and a large selection of tea. Their bakery items are fresh and ever so good. They also have a few cute tables outside. Go there.

Yelp
First time here, will never come again. The lady behind the counter was so rude and not helpful at all. From the back room, she called out my order number. I couldn't find where my food was at. I said "excuse me"...kept waiting for her to come out....nothing. oh, is this my food, over here, boxed up. ..let's give it a try. Yep, that's my food. Partway through, I would like some salt. She's still in the back. I asked "can I get some salt"? Her reply, "over there"! Over where? Maddening. When I first got there, I planned on eating breakfast and then purchasing a bunch of goodies for friends. Forget it. Put the lid on my breakfast, purchased nothing and went home. Bummer. Place is cute, food was great. Thus would have been a perfect "go to" restaurant for me.

Yelp
We got here at a lull so we were second in line - and then the line grew. Their card machine is down today (we missed the sign they had up about that) and Randy didn't have enough cash. She put the order in and he was going to go to the bank - so cool she did that and we didn't have to stand in line again - but I had cash in the car so it worked out. I got an absolutely amazing burrito (I get it with bacon). Randy wanted to try the sandwich (again) and then remembered he likes the burrito better lol. He ate half of his and then half of my huge burrito. His coffee is good this time too so our last visit must have been a bad day. Happens. This place is delish and so chill.

Yelp
Food is great. Their breakfast burritos are plenty to fill up on. Coffee is also really good. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. Staff is very friendly. They are usually busy in the morning.

Yelp
Perfecto! Great prices Tastes great Easy to find place Friendly enough (was really busy I think) I didn't try any food but all the drinks got thumbs up from our crew The ladies at the best western debated a bit but landed on this being the spot for coffee in mt Shasta and landed on seven suns. I agree.
google avatar

Webes T.

Yelp
Great coffee and breakfast burritos. I tried most around Mt Shasta and this is my favorite.

Yelp
We stopped here on our road trip from Washington to Southern California. Delicious coffee and huge portions for the price. Employees were super nice and efficient. The outside patio is great to sit at with nice weather. Definitely a must stop in the morning before a long road trip.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! The staff is very friendly, the food is really good and the coffee is great. I usually get the breakfast sandwich or burrito. Both are amazing. I get an oat milk latte and it's delicious.
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
Coffee tasted burnt and had no flavor otherwise even though I got a mocha - usually the chocolate masks any pour coffee making but not this time. Zucchini bread has pineapple in it which I didn't know until I bit into it, so I asked if I could exchange it for something else and the person didn't want to because they weren't sure if there was pineapple in any of the other baked goods. Super bummer.
google avatar

Mehreen K.

Yelp
Road trip stop for coffee and pastries at the cutest little coffee shop. The space is clean and comfortable. Loved the menu and wished we could have sat and enjoyed a meal, but we were on the road. Got some delicious coffee and I was happy that they had sugar free brown sugar with my oat milk latte. I had a cinnamon roll and blueberry scone- both were delicious. Service was friendly and quick. We will definitely make a pit stop here next time we travel to California.
google avatar

Sunny W.

Yelp
Best carrot cake ever!!! Best chai latte I've had at any coffee shop. Breakfast burritos were good, hella carbs, but tasty .

Jim R.

Yelp
I ordered a blended drink that was not blending at all. Worst blended iced latte ever. This once great place has fallen from grace.

D M.

Yelp
Food and coffee was amazing! I got a breakfast sandwich and a slice of carrot cake so good definitely recommend!

Yelp
We stopped in for a quick breakfast on our way home. I'm happy we did. Atmosphere is really cute, food delish and drinks yummy. Ladies behind the counter were very nice. Definitely check it out.

Yelp
We visited this place at the start of our 12 hour roadtrip with the intentions of finding a good coffee to start our morning (9:30am). Found this place on google and seemed like a great place I mean it had a pretty extensive menu and the aesthetics were beautiful. Even more, when we got there the line was pretty long, which gave us high hopes! Yet, after spending almost and hour and a half in line, when we finally got to order the barista was a bit rude, I'm not sure maybe I confused her with my questions of a specific flavor for a latte. We pay about $18 for our 2 medium sized coffees (our norm for GOOD coffee in Socal) and don't think much of it. Coffee came out no more than 15 minutes which I would say is a plus, as it was about 10:40 now and i had already planned to be on the road for at least 30 min. Again, because of the line and aesthetics I did have high hopes for the coffee, yet my iced blueberry vanilla latte had no flavor at all except for milk. My partner's either, a mexican mocha. The drinks were lukewarm with no flavor. If I were to make this trip again I do not think I would visit this cafe.

Yelp
I don't know what people are complaining about when they claim the food is "under-seasoned". I'm glad I didn't go on one of those days or order whatever bland food warrants that complaint... However, Summer is in full effect and I went on a busy June morning. So with that said, my experience was very pleasant considering I was in a big dumb line full of fellow out-of-towners. On the other hand, Seven Suns was offline so I had to pay cash but it wasn't a big deal since I was traveling from San Diego and I came prepared for this type of ordeal. I had a cold brew which I thought was delicious. It was rich and ultra smooth. I was very impressed at its lack of acidity considering other cold brews I've had in the city really miss the mark. I also had a bacon breakfast burrito and found that delicious too. The housemade salsa it came with was also yummy. After traveling hundreds of miles across California, this whole setup was heaven sent. I recommend scoping out the line before you barrage nice people but rest assured that this place provides creature comforts for the out of towner.

alyssa c.

Yelp
Coffee was very good! I ordered the Mexican Mocha, and I have to say it was very well made. If I pass through here again, I would definitely go back. (Didn't stay long enough to truly embrace the atmosphere)

Jessie B.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee spot in town, and a lot of others, too since there is always a line out the door. The ladies behind the counter are awesome, coffee and baked goods are delicious. We had breakfast sandwiches there a couple of times, everyone loved them. If yous top by, you have to try the ranger cookie.

Yelp
Visiting Mt.Shasta, loading a few steps away wanted to try the coffee here and the first thing customer service SUCKS, I believe she woke up in the wrong side of the bed, very unpleasant customer service is there is someone else that works there I might finally try but for now the bitter person should take time out for a while
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best coffee shop we have been too in years! This place is so cute inside and out. Plenty of outside seating, either in front or in their garden areas on the side. Inside was cool if it is warm outside. There seems to be a line all the time but it goes quick. Sevice was friendly and with a smile. We ordered hot drinks and cold and each one was perfect. The best we have tried with so many coffee shops we have gone to. We also got their fresh scone and it was again amazing with so any bits of fruit. My husband and I split a breakfast burrito and it was oozing with cheese. We were in Heaven eating it. Wish this place was back home! Definitely a 5 star!
google avatar

Molly H.

Yelp
Visiting from Newport OR, and not disappointed one bit! Quick friendly service, delicious espresso & hardy bagel as well as muffin. The store was welcoming warm, and smelled delicious. Will be back to buy the beans!
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
This place was really good, we came here twice on our vacation. First day was really packed and we were glad we waited their breakfast options and coffee was very well done. The people who worked there were very patient and very friendly, I would recommend this place for coffee in the mornings.
google avatar

Aimee T.

Yelp
Service is good. Local vibes. Ambiance is cute, very typical coffees shop in a small town. Adorable outdoor seating. The food was good. Tastes super healthy!
google avatar

Isaiah G.

Yelp
So we we're passing by and needed coffee so we decided to stop by. The place is off the main road so there's plenty of parking a long the street. The place is super cute outside has seating outside and inside. I was surprised of how busy it was. There was about 50 things on the menu a little overwhelming. I ordered a special French toast latte. And my husband ordered a s'mores latte. We got two giant cookies it was about $17 I thought was a little expensive. We waited in the standing area. They sell a lot of cute gifts. I got my coffee and unfortunately it was just not that good. My husbands s'mores drink was better. Mine just tasted like coffee with some sweetner but unfortunately it was not that good. My son got a matcha and he said that was good.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
We stopped in before my company's hike. We got two breakfast burritos, I got the ham, and the other was meat lovers. First, these burritos are SO heavy and totally worth the $10. They come cut in half and a nice size cup of salsa/Pico. The ham was so good, super cheesy, and the hasbrowns were completely cooked on the inside. It's a cozy spot for sure. When we first got there, we were 3rd in line, so we were able to walk right in. When we left, though, different story-, the line was out the door and down the sidewalk. I feel like you can't go to a coffee shop and not get something from the coffee oriented side of the menu. I got a small latte (it's still early for me at this point), and we tried the chocolate chai. It was super SWEET. The flavor was good, just super sweet. I believe it was the chocolate - it could have also been the oat milk - we will never know, but if super sweet is your thing the flavor is good.
google avatar

Simon S.

Yelp
Order a breakfast burrito and a Drink. I waited a couple minutes and took a sip of coffee and spit it out because it was so hot, burnt my tongue. Waited a solid 10 minutes before one of the two drinks was not scalding. Same for the burrito, extremely hot. Once everything cooled down it was good. I get it the food and coffee should be hot, but this was a bit much.
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
We came in for brunch; however, we were greeted with a flat attitude, and a "we are closing early, but if you put in your order now" we could apparently dine in. What kind of hospitality is this? The food was ok, but the coffee was average at best.
google avatar

George P.

Yelp
Right on Mt. Shasta blvd. great vibe and delicious coffees. Locals and tourists alike are welcome.
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
I came to Seven Suns as a charging break and wanted some non fast food food. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and waited outside at the side window for pickup. What I received ended up being a breakfast burrito. I didn't mind it since I didn't care but it was an order issue. The breakfast burrito was kind of plain (you can tell by the picture too). The eggs weren't seasoned and everything was just average. Nothing special.
google avatar

Julio H.

Yelp
This place really deserves a 4 star rating, but ... this is a community hub. If you come here, you'll see a lot of very important people in the town of Mount Shasta hanging out. Also, many people meet up here so you get to know some locals. You'll also see lots of people journaling, meditating, and old friends getting together to grab a bite. I saw a lot of people getting iced coffees, maybe that is the thing... I got a hot coffee and it was OK, and I also got a bagel breakfast sandwich which was really good. I do have to give props to their effort to provide vegetarian options and man, that "salsa verde" is amazing.
google avatar

Joey W.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab a quick breakfast before our hike. This place was right across from where we were staying and had a line out the door so we thought it'd be good. The line was long so it took us about 10 mins to order and another 10 mins for my friends and I to get our food. I got a slice of banana bread and it was so disappointing. It lacked banana flavor and was super dry. It did not seem fresh.

Logan Q.

Yelp
To start the service was very friendly. even offered to let us go get cash while they made our food. Not only that but the Cajun breakfast burrito is possibly the best I've ever had complimented by a one of a kind salsa. The chocolate chia was also amazing. This cafe was also very cozy and warm. The lemon bar is out of this world same with the brownie.
google avatar

Christie S.

Yelp
Yummy coffee & egg burritos! Lovely outdoor patio with shade. Hubby said the burrito had the perfect amount of everything (egg, meat, hash browns)! Service was a little slow with only a few people working, but not a big deal.
google avatar

Ivonnie S.

Yelp
Seven Suns seems like a popular spot for coffee and breakfast, but our experience here was mediocre. FOOD & DRINK: + Veggie breakfast wrap: the wrap was a good-enough size to be filling, but it was not what was described on the menu. No hash brown or avocado - it was mostly (or completely) mushroom, spinach, eggs, onions, and a little tomato, in a spinach wrap rather than whole wheat wrap. Lots of ingredients that release liquid when cooked, and the tortilla got soggy quickly. I appreciated that they put a napkin at the bottom of the container because the wrap leaked so much liquid. I could taste all the ingredients but not a lot of flavor otherwise, so the tomato salsa was definitely needed. J also had a different wrap (Greek) and agreed that it needed more flavor. + Apple walnut salad: this was very unimpressive. (See photo) Definitely wouldn't get this again. + Latte: I'm not sure if they were reusing their espresso beans, but this was quite weak and had a watery taste. ORDERING & PICK-UP: Order inside, then wait outside on the patio for pick up from the little window to the patio. Their method of getting the food to the customer is not great - the window is quite high up on the wall, and it may be hard for someone to reach their food if they are shorter or have difficulty reaching up. Wait times were quite long and food was not prepped in the order that parties ordered. I got my food before the two parties in front of me, but still after a 30+ min wait. The party who ordered before me waited even longer to get their salad and wrap. So, be prepared to wait for your food and drinks if you see other parties order ahead of you or waiting for their food on the patio. OVERALL: maybe we just came on an off day where they were running out of the ingredients listed on the menu, but this was a "meh" experience overall.

Yelp
9/4/2020 Sunday Small pocket of outdoor terrace sitting on the left. Next door was playing live harp music when we were sitting, which made it enjoyable. Was very popular at 12:15pm when we visited. People sometimes keep their dogs leashed just in front of the terrace sitting. The cheesy, smooth (non-traditional) burrito was actually very enjoyable to eat. The whole menu is majority finger food. Many flies trying to steal our food, because the weather is hot and the grass vines hanging on the fence is giving them lots of nutrients.... that and the long wait for our food, and the poor arrangement for directing foot traffic (one small window for customer food pickup) knocked one star off my experience.

Jo J.

Yelp
The vanilla latte was good but I ordered a breakfast burrito and it came out clearly microwaved. It was SO hot I couldn't even pick it up. After waiting awhile for it to cool enough to pick it up it was completely subpar. The hashbrowns inside were stale and everything about it verified the burrito was made in advance and reheated. My hubs ordered a meat lovers burrito and peppermint mocha and only drank the coffee to prevent wasting money. It was not good at all. As for the burrito, it was the same situation as mine. Too hot and clearly reheated. From the reviews I honestly expected more. I don't think we will be returning.

Yelp
This cafe is the place to go in Mt. Shasta for breakfast. The line was long when we got there, but it moved pretty fast. My friend and I both got coffee & breakfast burritos. To be honest, the coffee was very average and the breakfast burritos were not super flavorful. However, the salsa was super good. We loved the ambiance inside, though. It felt super local, and we enjoyed sitting and listening to some of the locals talk about what was going on in town. Come here for the ambiance/experience and expect average food.

Clarann B.

Yelp
I get a special coffee twice a week. And I am very consistent. As a local I find that their service is the best in town as they know me and alway have best service. And I love their food.... Particularly their scones and homemade muffins. Lunch menu is outstanding also!
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Great spot for coffee and breakfast. I came here twice on my weekend trip. The line was long but moved fast. There's two outdoor patios that were super cute to sit outside and eat at.

Rachel L.

Yelp
Love this wonderful coffee shop. Highly recommend the butter pecan latte - would get it a million times over! Baristas 5 stars, coffee 5 stars, garden & seating ambiance 5 stars, everything 5 stars!
