Seven Treasures Cantonese Restaurant

These pictures are from their sister restaurant. A friend of mine introduced to me to seven treasures years ago. I miss the noodle soup! I’ll be first in line when they open back up. I Went to Wonton Gourmet in Desplaines but they are so far! Ordered from uber eats until they stopped delivering in the area. Very close to the original! If anyone knows another restaurant in China town close to the original add it please.

4.5 stars: Seven Treasures didn’t disappoint as an affordable, satisfying weekend lunch spot. Located a bit farther out from the main Chinatown square, it was pretty empty when we arrived. The interior is spacious and decorated very simply and sparsely— no frills. They definitely seem a little understaffed, but the staff is very friendly and our food came out at a reasonable speed. Our group of 4 ordered the following 5 dishes (**= especially recommend): - BBQ Combo (M) with Duck, Crispy Roast Pork, and BBQ Pork**: Highly recommend this dish— with the medium size, you can choose 3 meats from the menu. Our server recommended the 3 we ordered, and they were all delicious. Crispy pork was both super crispy and juicy, BBQ pork was tender and full of flavor, duck was also tender and bursting with flavor. - Beef Short Rib with Black Pepper Casserole**: This came in a sizzling iron pot and absolutely bursting with flavor. The beef was quite tough in texture but very tasty, and the onions and pepper paired very well with the meat and flavors. - Pork & Preserved Egg Congee: A basic dish, but they make it really well— super delicious, fragrant, and the texture/consistency is perfectly thick. - Sautéed Chinese Broccoli in Oyster Sauce: A classic vegetable dish— well sauteed and flavored. The strong and ingrained garlic taste made it really fragrant. - Sweet Corn Soup with Chicken Flavor (S): This small soup was quite large and quite tasty. I was a fan of the gelatinous consistency and the eclectic ingredients provided a complex flavor profile of sweet and savory. Overall, the portions were large, the prices were fair, and the food was authentic and delicious. Leaving stuffed and satisfied, the total came out to just ~$17 each including tax and tip. The menu is super extensive, so I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes. I’d definitely recommend coming with a larger group to try larger portions and/or more types of their meats, which were really delicious.

We got in town late after 12 midnight and wanted something to eat right away. Thankfully seven treasures was conveniently located just across the street. Though it was crowded and small, we still were provided good service (typical elder Asian service). Food was very flavorful and came out quickly. We got the dinner for 6 and it was more than plenty of food. More like for 10 people. We had a lot of left over. This place is hands down better than the overrated minhs

Yes it’s cheap, yes it’s still great. Super casual interior, grab a server as they run by, pay at the counter type place. Love it… if you like a deal, you’ll like this place. Big portions, low price. Bbq pork chow mein was great. Crispy noodles softened by sauce, pork had a great flavor, wish there was a little more meat but for $11 it was still great. Hot and sour soup had a surprising amount of stuff in it. Pretty good flavor, overall pleased. Crab ragoons, excellent. Would order again. Pot stickers - thick and heavy exterior. Good interior, needed some kind of sauce. They weren’t bad, but they weren’t great. Overall I’d come back. Get the bbq pork and maybe try out some other noodles.

Today we ate at Seven Treasures near our hotel. Value for money is great! Beef chop suey and duck with veggies were delicious and more than enough. The ice tea fresh lemon with coke was fabulous. One star deducted because one dish came first and 5 minutes later the other.

Stopped by here to get lunch. I ordered the Sliced Fish with Chinese Broccoli over steamed rice. The dish was very tasty (it came with garlic white sauce). And the prices were very reasonable! They also served you with tea if you dine in. It looks like their bbq stuff is also good. Definitely a good affordable place to eat in Chinatown!

Its worth the wait. First time trying and likely last as the owners are getting a well-deserved retirement. We waited roughly 3 hours in line and got multiple 554's and their wonton soup with noodles. When I tell you places don't make it homemade like this anymore. I'm serious. It's so comforting and tasty. It made that long wait worth every second, and I'm glad to have gotten a chance to try this magical wonder that's been around for a long time. I hope the staff are loved for all of their hard work!!

Friends night out, we each ordered something different and shared. Awesome Food!! Awesome Service!! We had.. -Walnut Shrimp -Noodles w/Pork & Duck -Noodles w/Pork & Shrimp Dumplings -Beef Fried Rice -Noodles with Sliced Chicken Soup -Shrimp Egg Fu Young

WTF Slower than F-ck. I came in @ 3:15 & ordered shrimp egg foo young I left @ 3:57 NOTHING. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL come here. When I came in there was only 1 other table with a father & his 3 girls they had already ordered and were eating so what takes 42 minutes for 1 order of shrimp egg foo young? I said F this & left. NEVER AGAIN

Slightly disappointed in the quality of the BBQ here. I know it's not NYC/Brooklyn Chinatown, but I expected more from Chicago. The duck was not as fresh tasting or delicious as the ones back home. Not much service here, and the cleanliness is suspect too. Both can be overcome by the quality of food, but that isn't the case here. Still looking for my go-to BBQ spot.

This is one of my favorite places to get soupy noodles from in Chinatown. But being real, the interior is NOT cute. However, service is quick and the food speaks for itself. My go to order includes the wonton noodle soup and red bean ice drink/dessert. I love that you can choose the type of noodle you want too. There's rice noodle, egg noodle, flat noodle, and my fav (not listed on their menu) lai-fun. Lai-fun (meaning "lai noodle," idk the proper in English term) is almost like udon, but is thinner and MUCH silkier. As for portion size, one bowl of noodles is almost perfect for 1 person (can be stretched for 1.5 people lol). The red bean ice comes in original, coconut milk, grass jelly, or topped with ice cream as variety options. So refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. If you don't like noodles, they have pages of the usual Chinese food too. One of their most popular rice dish is the 554. Menu item number 554 is a side of roasted pork and egg rice dish. It is known for being super affordable, flavorful, and filling. I honestly get to-go from them every month lol would definitely recommend checking them out for a quick but delicious lunch! HOT tip (; ~ their chili oil is soooo good with the soupy noodles

Seven Treasures is pretty much what you'd expect from a Cantonese restaurant. The service was direct and to the point - which I loved. The ambience of the restaurant was simple and functional - not much decoration and feel good ornamentation. I got two dishes - liver and sliced fish congee and and the beef chow mein. The beef chow mein was not very good - it seemed like they just threw the ingredients together and was pretty sloppy. The taste wasn't very appealing either. The dish wasn't savory and had no fun taste to it. I wouldn't recommend. But the reason why I give it 4 starts is because of the congee. It was really good. They were generous with the amount of liver and fish they put in the congee. It was piping hot when it came out. It was almost everything I wanted in a congee. My friend got an eggplant dish and said his was really good. Get the congee if you like congee in general, won't disappoint!

Sad that you are closing soon :-( this restaurant has been our go to place for 20 yrs. They have been opened even before that. We love the iconic 554, scrambled egg and shrimp over rice and of course wonton noodle with beef stew. This is a go to place for late night food since they are opened till after midnight. We go here and the place is relaxed but not last night wherein there was a long line. We had our last hurrah last night. It's worth the wait...Thank you for being part of our life.

I need to remind myself to skip the wonton and get double dumplings! So good!! This place has a changed in 30 years. You don't go here for the vibes or atmosphere. My go-to is the wonton noodle soup with dumplings. And Chinese broccoli, if you want some healthy greens. You're gonna wanna use the plate they give you to move your piping hot dumplings, so they can cool with some chili oil and red wine vinegar. All this for about $10. It's definitely gone up in price due to inflation, but it's hard to leave hungry. If I'm feeling extra, I'll get some shrimp fried rice to go.

Glad I was able to visit this place before it closed down while traveling for a business trip. I ate here very morning and night, 6 days straight. Chicago you lost a classic. So sad.

Get the bbq pork steamed rice plate it will not disappoint. This dish is also known as the 554, its old menu number. The eggs were cooked perfectly with runny yolks. The bbq pork was so delicious. The portions are big!

I got the BBQ Pork with Fried Eggs Over Rice and it was SO GOOD! Classic cantonese flavors and it reminded me of my childhood foods. Absolutely delicious and well priced. Will be returning for sure!

Ordered the BBQ Pork With Fried Eggs Over Rice and it did not disappoint! I understand service is usually written for restaurants, but as someone who has worked in the food industry, I tend to not look at service when writing reviews for the restaurant. With that being said, I didn't have any trouble with the service during my time here and if anything, the service was prompt and I got to enjoy my meal uninterrupted. Good portions for the affordable price! The place definitely reminded me of cha chaan tang vibes from Hong Kong.

Seven Treasures is conveniently open until 2 AM. I came with a couple friends around 1 AM and we ordered three fried rice dishes, congee, orange chicken, and another chicken dish. Honestly as heinous as it sounds (coming from a Chinese person too) my favorite was the orange chicken. The second chicken dish came with more vegetables and peanuts than chicken and was a bit bland. The duck egg congee wasn't bad but a bit salty. The food came out very quickly though.

8.2/10 554 is always a nostalgic classic with BBQ pork and a fried egg over rice. Beef Chow Mein is a great Crispy, sauce noodle dish. Crab Rangoon and Chinese Broccoli are standard everywhere.

Sometimes when you go to Chinatown you just want a no-frills, authentic, reasonably-priced sit down meal of delicious Chinese food. Seven treasures delivers! Place is open late night and service was friendly and fast even though it was just one waiter. You get free herbal tea upon sitting down but have to ask for water. We loved the fried rice and the entrees we got. Portions were decent sized and prices were low. Feels a bit like a blast to the old classic Chinatown.

*5 stars with an asterisk. Simply the Best value Best noodle soup in town. That is the wonton with BBQ pork. The broth by itself is fine, add BBQ pork however and it goes to another level. They are also open till 2am - a big plus The prices here are more than fair for any dish. Had the salt and pepper shrimp that too is excellent. There are 2 caveats here: 1. Service not always the best 2. Clean up not always prompt. This may color your experience just remember the prices your paying. I've been going here since the 1980's and have not stopped. Sorry no pics. It was midnight when we ate I forgot.

This place is such a gem. I wish I could bring my parents here because I know they'd love it too. My friend and I came at 1:45AM and ordered two BBQ pork plates with fried eggs and a pork and preserved congee to share. Both were delicious and came out super quickly. Also, for only $24?? Insanely cheap prices. Who knew that Cantonese food would be such good hangover food after going to the club. I would come here again and again.

My husband and I ordered two dishes and a drink: -Soy Sauce Chicken with Rice -Bbq pork and roast duck with lo mien -Lemon iced tea My parents are Hong Kongese so I'm always thrilled to try authentic HK/Cantonese food that reminds me of my time there. This restaurant was a small walk away from the Chinatown Square, and looked very similar to what a restaurant in HK would look like inside. Their BBQ pork and roast duck were DELICIOUS - definitely tasted authentic. Hilariously, their authenticity even went down to having the chopsticks or utensils and bowls tasting like dishwater if you don't wash it with hot water or tea first. The only complaint we had was with the soy sauce chicken dish. I usually love this dish, so I had to try it. Unfortunately, the chicken was a bit dry and made the dish underwhelming. However, I thought the taste was decent and I still managed to almost finish this dish. The lemon iced tea tasted very close to what it would taste like in Hong Kong and my husband really liked it! He normally orders this drink in HK or at Hong Kongese restaurants back in California, so it was nice that this beverage tasted so good here. Their prices are very fair, and portions were surprisingly plenty. I've been used to raising prices lately and coming from California, I was used to $15-20 entrees. These two dishes were probably around $7-8 each, so it felt insanely affordable for the amount they gave. I definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try if you visit Chinatown :)

Always a good place for some cheaper, but filling food! Potstickers- 8.3/10 first time I had these and what a pleasant surprise! They're huge and full of filling. Not what I expected at all, but I'll be sure to get them next time as well Crab Rangoon - 7.9/10 first time getting crab rangoon here too! Bigger than what I usually get so in my book it's already better! The flavor is what you expect from CR so nothing too crazy. Size def the best part of it! 554 - 8.1/10 a go to college stable of mine. Price has slowly increased, but it is a meal that is always filling for under $10. BBQ pork with a fried egg over rice.

As a college student in Chicago, this restaurant has a place in my heart. Growing up half Chinese eating Cantonese food, I found this place like home. When my dad visited me in Chicago, he also love this place for the same reason. Another reason is it's super cheap compared to other restaurants. It's sad to see the restaurant is closing down but deep down I was hoping for it to open even if it's for catering or just by order. This restaurant is not only part of my college life but it is now part of my heart.

My husband and I popped in one evening while shopping in the area. We were apprehensive walking in because the restaurant could use a little cleaning & an update. However, we were quickly seated & I ordered the Szechwan Shrimp (spicy) & my husband ordered spicy Mongolian beef. Our order took about 15 minutes we also had pork potstickers while we waited. Our food was just ok, but not spicy at all. Maybe we ordered the wrong things but from my first visit it's not a location I'd try twice before going somewhere else.

I don't know what is going on with the restaurant but the food just doesn't taste the same, as it has in the past. We went sometime last year with some friends and I felt the food was off, so I wrote it as an off day. But I couldn't put it past them any longer when I took some other friends for the first time this Saturday afternoon and the food didn't even look the same. The rice was so pale for fried rice and the dishes are coming out with less meat than expected. I couldn't believe that a dish that was supposed to serve 6 people had about 6 pieces of meat - so we are supposed to just have one piece of sweet and sour chicken a piece?!? The only thing I enjoyed about the meal was the egg rolls... which were amazing as usual. For the amount of money we paid for this meal, I was so disappointed and embarrassed for both bringing my friends & for the restaurant itself. The service we received was even subpar. My husband looked at the food we were served with a broken heart as he's been coming here for over 25 years... and there are so many other memories with friends and family that we have had here. He looked at me at the end of the meal, and finally understood what I had mentioned to him last year about the food not being the same as in years past. I guess we will be trying out other restaurants in the area to get our fill of authentic Chinese food in Chinatown.

I changed things up and ordered the Noodle with Roast Pork Soup. The skin was crunchy and the broth was good. I've been coming here since they opened.

It's kind of sad that this restaurant is closed due to the owner's retirement, and his children are not taking his business. Although this is unfortunate, I still have to give this place a low review. Don't get me wrong, I do love eating at this place. Despite their rude employees and the place is a little dirty, I still love to eat their wonton noodle soup, BBQ pork & fried egg over rice (554), beef chow fun, chicken wings, lemon ice tea, cold milk tea, and more. However, prior to the closing for good, the owner is lying to the customers, or giving false information to the community. Days before the closing, the owner and the employees of the restaurant said; it will be closing or shut down on Tuesday August 15. I've thought that I can go to have the last taste of their menu on Friday and Sunday, since I have to work on the other days. I only been in there at Friday and looking forward on Sunday for lunch. But by the time I went into there, the doors wasn't open and nobody is working. According the their sign said: "We are closing early due to short staff, and we like to thank you everyone for coming here after 40 years." For me I'm not buying that, because I feel like the owner is playing with us, and this so-called "closing early" is more like closed for good. Personally, I cannot believe the owner will have this misinformation to the community (even to his retirement and closing the business). Matter facts, they have publicly shared this announcement, from Chinatown and to the News. To all my families and friends, I only could tell them that this restaurant's most negativity but less positivity. Also, I'm very upset that I haven't had their last taste of wonton noodle soup and cold milk tea.

I've heard that you find the BEST chinese food at a place with 3.5 stars, and this one definitely hits the mark. It is a 4/5 for me because the food is so good and comforting, they have such a huge menu, service is just a bit slow - which is understandable because they are also so busy especially at night. It's a great and affordable spot for food after a night of drinking or for when you're craving the famous 554.

Hate leaving reviews when not having eaten somewhere, but we sat there for almost 30 minutes and watched people who were seated after us get their order taken by the one English speaking employee. The bus boys just kept pointing at the English speaking man when we tried to put in an order. Four other tables left during the 30 minutes without being served. Short staffed for sure but better ways to handle that than ignoring customers. Hope they figure out a better way.

This place is an absolute dive and first impression walking in would be to turn around and leave but don't because many of the dishes here are fantastic especially the won ton soups and the delicious bbq pork and the prices can't be beat...One of my favs in Chinatown.

Is this the Seven Treasures of my teen age dreams? The wonton and dumpling noodle soup is even better than I remembered. $8. Balance the meal with sweet pea leaves sautéed in garlic. $13. Skip the crispy roast pork if you need to avoid fatty fatty fat. (There wasn't much meat under the crispy skin.) $7.

We came here after eating at a Michelin star restaurant because we were hungry still. We took the train all the way here to get some late night food. Some people were still eating here this late just like we are. We tried a variety of things like wonton egg noodle soup, seafood and bbq pork combination, beef with rice, some bean curd with stuffing inside. We wanted beers but they do not serve alcohol here. My friends told me to call and ask in Mandarin if they are still open and I think maybe the person speaks English and Cantonese only. He answered in English lol...

Gotta say, this place exceeded my expectations. This is definitely a hidden gem in old Chinatown. Prices are moderate, with large selection of Cantonese cuisine. Tasty and fresh, delicious and filling! Took some home in boxes because the portions rocked.

Highly recommend the noodles in soup, always good. Not the cleanest place but food is fairly consistent.

A friend recommend this place so we took an office excursion to visit. So far the taste of everything is great! If you want leftovers make sure to order large portions. The egg rolls are small and ok. The BBQ is really tasty and make sure to order a dish with BBQ pork! Take out was correct and service was friendly. Absolutely the dirtiest place I've been too. Bathroom and dining area filthy and disgusting. The quality of food has gone way down yet price way up. The pork was old and not fresh. The roast duck was just bones no meat. Manager was rude and callous will never be back

The place looks a little Sketch at night but their food is good- Well what I had was good. The duck and shrimp fried rice was. Would 8/10 recommend

Been going here since I was a child in the 80's. Sadly, we will no longer be patrons. I had ordered wonton noodles to go and as my son eat it for dinner at night, he asked me if they put fish inside the wonton. I told him no. Then I asked him why. He told me his wonton was "crunchy" and he spit it out and saw there were "fish bones" inside his wonton. I went over to check it out and sure enough there were multiple fish bones (like those from smelts!) I thought it was a one time thing until my daughter told me that while she was eating her wonton noodles, she chomped on one of the wonton which was also "crunchy." She thinks she eat some fish bones too.

Best place in old Chinatown for BBQ pork and wonton soup. This place has been around for over twenty years. I like the BBQ pork and wonton soup with egg noodles. I like to eat with their spicy condiments and a Coca cola. Stop by for lunch or dinner.

This place is super low key almost to the point of seeming out of business. The food and soups are good but the service and decor / cleanliness is definitely less than what most would expect. I would not return unless my in-laws request this exact locale in the future, I will look for alternative options in advance.

My Toisanese family has been enjoying the delicious cuisine at Seven Treasures for decades. Our go to for tasty barbecue pork, fine roasted pork and their famous barbecue pork wonton noodles and that perfect broth! Menu is as long as a dropped TP roll lol but everything on it is worthy of your taste buds. One of the most affordable restaurants in Chinatown - never disappoints dine-in or take out. The spacious place is not fancy but when you just want hearty home style Chinese food, this place will not disappoint.

Rude service can be expected in places like this and is absolutely acceptable if it means expedient service and great food. Service was expedient Food was incredible It's not 5 stars because there are extra fees for paying with card an the staff Will not split group tickets.

I've alway come here pretty late--like after 9pm and there's always a decent crowd. I'd say it's pretty authentic and the portion sizes are large. My go to is the wonton noodle soup. Waiters are nice. Always moving fast

I have been coming here since I was little & I am glad it's still around!! I love getting the wonton noodle soup from here & I always have to get it every time.....either that or just wonton soup with either fried rice or chow mein. One of the most popular dishes from here and well known is the 554 which is also good....with bbq pork over rice, soy sauce, and egg. Yum! The food here definitely comforts me.

Do not, I repeat, do not order their fried wontons. The menu says there's no meat so you'd think there's at least something else filled in there. NOPE. It's just fried wonton wrappers. Why would you label your menu like that?? That's like saying you have tacos but only giving out the shells. Who'd be happy about that?? Deceitful!!

It was ok, my table had the Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken, and shrimp with lobster sauce. I did like the won ton soup with noodles and the crab Rangoon

I have eaten here many times and they have the best curry in town. Never had a bad meal ever!

I didn't have BBQ but I had a regular chop suey which was loaded with MSG. The egg rolls were ridiculously small so do not get. Very disappointing

I believe this restaurant is one of the oldest restaurant in Chinatown. Back when I was in college we always came here for some comfort food with affordable price. Now after my children graduated from college the place is running just like old time. Food & service are good, price is awesome but place is pretty old.

This seems like a true hit or miss restaurant in Chinatown. However, I believe there are more misses than hits. Overall though, you can pass on this place altogether. I kept my order basic and ordered beef fried rice. The appearance of it wasn't pleasant. It was just a brown glaze all over. I used my chopsticks to try to find some vegetables or fried egg throughout to no avail. The taste? It wasn't good. It tasted like smoke. Have you ever been to a diner and ordered a meal only for it to taste like the grill itself? That means the kitchen didn't scrub down and clean the grill nightly like they are supposed to. The beef fried rice tasted from the "grill." The pot stickers were the worst I've ever had. Doughy, not thoroughly cooked on both sides, and unflavorful. There are plenty of other restaurants in Chinatown that serve much better food. Try My Place or Szechaun JMC Chinese Kitchen.

This place is a literal blessing and one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Everything is fantastic. The dumpling and wonton soups are a hit. The roast duck is succulent. The roast pork is crispy perfection. And it's open hella late. I was there 1:30am on a weekend night and the food was hot and fresh and the service was incredibly kind.

I've only ever had 2 items from this place: Shrimp Wonton Noodles and the 554+egg. My husband and his family have been buying wonton noodles from here for probably 20 years and it has never failed them. It is only $5 for each bowl of noodle, but portion sizes are probably smaller than other places. Please note that if you take it to go and order in multiples of 2 bowls, they will package the soup for the 2 bowls in one container. I think the soup is a bit on the salty side, but overall a great deal. I recently started ordering the 554+egg thanks to Yelp and it did not disappoint. It is a simple dish with cha siew (roast pork), rice, 2 fried eggs, and a light drizzle of the sweet soy sauce. Next time, I'll ask for extra sweet soy sauce because it really brings the dish together. If you are looking for extremely affordable casual cantonese food, this place will not disappoint.
