The Hottest New Restaurants and Food Carts in Portland, November 2024

"Golden, miniature cow sculptures, perhaps macabrely stacked with rolls of wagyu beef, land at tables at this new Bethany Chinese restaurant, which is quickly becoming one of the area’s strongest options for Chongqing-style tableside hot pot. Broth options include versions with the tingle of Sichuan peppercorn and the richness of bone marrow, plus the tangy chicken and pickled mustard green-based broth. The restaurant offers a wide range of add-ins, including house-made noodles, seafood, Berkshire pork, quail eggs, offal, and several different cuts of beef; hot pot connoisseurs will appreciate the assortment of dipping sauces as the condiment bar." - Eater Staff

This place was simply amazing. We ordered a lot of different things and we liked absolutely everything. It was a little hard to order. The server explained to us how to do it , but we weren’t quite sure whether we should order the lunch special or order things ala cart and so it was a little confusing for all of us since it was our first time. The soup bases were delicious and everything we added to them just made it better. Our favorite thing of the night was dessert and it was the strawberry snow. Will definitely be returning.

Best hot pot place period. High quality food, aesthetically pleasing environment and attentive customer service. The Tomyum was amazing and so was the mushroom broth. Try the rice cakes and Scallion Pancakes you won't regret it. We got a meter of lamb and a meter of beef for two and we were satisfied until full.

This hot pot place turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Even though there was only one waitress working during my visit, she was attentive, friendly, and made sure I had everything I needed without ever feeling rushed. Her service alone left a great impression. The $24 lunch special is a real hidden gem—plenty of food, a good variety of ingredients, and an overall great value for the price. While I wouldn’t say the meat is 100% the freshest I’ve ever had, it was still tasty, well-prepared, and paired beautifully with the flavorful broths. Everything else, from the vegetables to the dipping sauces, was fresh and satisfying. It’s also worth noting that the place doesn’t seem too busy around noon. That means you can pretty much walk in anytime during lunch hours without worrying about a wait, which is a huge plus if you want a relaxed, unhurried meal. Overall, this is a great spot for anyone craving a good, affordable hot pot lunch. Between the friendly service, the value-packed lunch deal, and the calm atmosphere, I’ll definitely be back.

All food in the picture costs about 110 dollars without tips. You can do hot pot at home with half of the price, but honestly, preparing all the ingredients and cleaning up are so bothersome. It's good when you don't want to cook for special occasions. I'm glad we have a hot pot place in Bethany village.

We had a really good time at Seventeen Hot Pot. We had not been to a Hot Pot restaurant before but our waitress was very helpful, not only in recommending things, but also helping us know to order our soup bases first so they could come and get warm while we ordered other items. They had easy to use tablets at the tables to facilitate ordering. We really enjoyed the salad and dipping sauce bar. It was fun to make your own dipping sauces, and the salad choices were generally good. All our choices for cooking were very good. Best of these were the Beef Tower, the hand-made noodles, and the dumplings. I really enjoyed the pork as it was thinly sliced pork belly. Overall, we would definitely go back. Great service and great food.

Can't beat hot pots in general, but this place is superior. I actually took photos, because you get a lot. This is the lunch special from 11 am to 4 pm M-F. Great food, a buffet salad bar with a sauce bar to boot! Wear a cloth apron if you need to protect your clothes, as they offer them. I'm coming back next week with my friends. Great presentation of dishes.

First time here and we loved it! A friend suggested it and we decided to try it opposed to our usual hotpot spot and man this is going to be our go to place! Amazing broth selection and we loved that everything was ala carte so you could pick exactly what you wanted without being limited to the all you can eat set you decided on. The quality of their noodles, meat, and veggies blew us away too! This is a must try!!!

A newer hot pot place in town. We waited for the buzz to settle down before coming. We came on a weeknight and didn't have to wait for a table. The service was attentive and quick, which is a positive. The interior was pretty spacious, and they have extra table trays for your food order. I really enjoyed their bone marrow broth and the Tom Yum one out of the for that we chose. The meat quality and veggies were great. They also have side items that you can order in addition to the hot pot items. We ordered some lamb skewers, and to my surprised, it wasn't as gamey as I thought it would be. They also have some tasty shaved ice that you can order for dessert, which I can see myself coming to just order.
