Sir

Google
I wouldn't be anywhere else on my downtime than in this this building, and moatly on here. My passion for doing homework and drinking a pitcher is immaculate even to this day. And if you're lucky, you may enjoy some free entertainment by student/local volunteers.

Rezzo Calamucha

Google
Cool place to hang out if you have time to chill out in between classes or so for a quick pint, or not so quick. Lotta appetizers to choose from and also have some TV's where they play sports so it's kinda like a sports bar

Tyler Gaul

Google
Great staff and atmosphere, wonderful place to stop in after a long day of classes...

Great beer on tap. Amazing staff.

Google
Its a pub at school. Not bad.

Google
They have beer

Yelp
Feels like an escape from campus that's always available. They have specials on drinks and even serve food.

Yelp
Ferras and Nancy hold this place down as wild as it gets being the only place on campus to offer some alcohol to over 25k students and 3000+ faculty/staff. My usual is a fat tire and a beef piroshki w/ a side-sauce of honey mustard- yumm!! Either here during lunch or after work to watch some ESPN or other sports events on the tube. Right outside of the Pub is the Depot which is cool to trolley over with a beer and enjoy the student run event space for live music acts, which usually is a nightly thang-- check out some raw talent or just marinate in the youthful madness of this spot. Thursdays is the best time to swing by cause of the best acts available and pint nite at the Pub. You get the best live entertainment in just listening to some of the sorority girls talk on how their new fling is just so disappointing in bed or how they felt so relieved after their visit to the student health center--hahahhah!

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, I love this place. 2 years of the end of my college career was spent in this bar. That said, food supply is limited and I actually cried twice during two different finals week when they were sold out. I love their loaded tater tots. Owner, my dude, it's frozen potatoes and condiments. Just stock up, your sleep deprived students will fucking thank you.

Marilee A.

Yelp
Mi gusta... Went here and got a free blue moon beer glass because they were promoting it lol

Edrian D.

Yelp
This Pub is more like a closet, but is a nice little get away when you need to slip into an alcoholic slumber or just need to get your mind off things. Not too excited about the hipster galore downing he PBR but at least stella and anchor is on tap

Erik U.

Yelp
When I was in college, I took a couple night classes because the other sessions were filled. I had a really spazzy classmate who I hung out with because he was pretty good at econ. It only took me a few times to figure out why my classmate would leave to use the restroom...for 20 minutes...and return with hair messy and totally stoked about shouting out questions. He was taking "power breaks" down at the pub during our three hour lecture. Let me say, he was a much better student during the last half of the class (it could also of been the pbr/bud or whatever he had at the time.) After that, the many times I spent there were great experiences. I mean, the transition from class to crunk was so easy, the only improvement that could be made was to add a tap room in business building. Stay classy SFSU.

Yelp
My favorite spot , the owner always there and he always take care of us , nice beer selection ! and we love the food specialty the wings .

Yelp
A quintessential bar of last resort, the SFSU pub manages to combine bad ambiance, expensive beer, and an unpleasant crowd into an unholy cocktail of sticky floors, post-exam meltdowns and self-loathing. While I certainly cannot say the beer selection is bad--New Belgium's Seasonals oft show up, and the Anchor Porter is a permanent fixture-- much of the selection trends towards macrobrews, which, in their defense are much easier to clean off the ripped Levis and plaid flannel shirts that the preponderance of patrons seem to be wearing. However, there are some huge problems: beer is expensive (7$ for a 20 oz pour of mediocre beer into a plastic mug? No thanks!), and much of it comes with an unwelcome funk. While I would normally blame the foul-tasting beer on this pub's location in the bowels of the Caesar Chavez Student Center (taste that off-flavor? Your overpriced beer passed through the sphincter!), its probably more likely that the lines aren't cleaned nearly enough. Food consists of whatever can be microwaved from Costco, and, while I admittedly love my Chicken Bakes, three dollars is simply too much for an overnuked specimen. In conclusion, the outstanding potential for day-drinking and before-class shit shows is simply not enough to mitigate the crappy, overpriced beer (did I mention the plastic mugs?), and unpleasant environment. Come here to artificially hit rock bottom, not for a good time.

Yelp
I don't know why everyone says this place is great. Go to Lister Bar across the street. Pub has $10 minimums for card charges and beers are $8/16oz anyways. Small and never busy.

Alys D.

Yelp
Dingy-looking-dark-hole of a school pub, but really, it's not like they have any competition to worry about (besides those who mean serious business and carry a flask to class). Red-Bull-can tables, plastic cups, lounge seats with questionable stains, moderate to high beer prices if it's not happy hour but the bartenders are nice and they always leave CNN on the television, so when I'm not in class studying politics I can watch its bullshit play out while I throw back a Blue Moon.

Zachary M.

Yelp
A great place for students to hang out. Atmosphere is nice and prices are fair I come here often to relax and talk to other friends and students

Collin T.

Yelp
There is a pub on campus called the pub. If you're on campus and wish to drink this is your only option. It's darkish, uglyish and has limited barstool seating. The beer selection is pretty good and the folks that work there are no different. Sometimes they put out pretzels at the bar. I used to get drunk here and then forgo classes. I like this place.

Shawna N.

Yelp
Oh what a hidden gem! I had always heard about this place, the legends of great things taking place here, the endless list of beers on tap! The wonderful food at cheapo-deepo prices!!! I had always thought that maybe it was some kind of rumor. That perhaps a place like this only existed in our thoughts and imaginations. But alas, after a friend of a friend invited us, we were subjected to the beerfilled glory that is the SFSU Pub. We were on the search for the legend of the Pub. It took feet and FEET of searching. We walked down a green stairwell, Yes! the stairs were GREEN! it honestly looked like a place that bums would go to defacate. But no, this was not the pub. We continued on in our search. It was down the stairs, not the green stairs, some other stairs, around the corner hidden in the lower part of cesar chavez. I ordered a blue moon pumpkin ale (seasonal brew) and it was only 4.50! and I gave the guy a $5 and he gave me back $1.50 in change! which of course I left as a tip. They also had a full menu of delicious food such as corn dogs, wraps, sandwiches, fries, etc. The staff was sooo attentive and friendly. My friend Kate and I have vowed to come here every tuesday and thursday for the rest of the semester! I love this place! This place is what dreams are made of!

Russell Allen E.

Yelp
Dear SFSU Pub, You give me EVERYTHING.Thanks to you, I have a place to study, relax, and people watch.... all while consuming lots of beer. Mary - you are a lovely person and I am glad a cool person like you gives me my beer. THANKS.

Kyle K.

Yelp
I like this place quite a bit. I'm surprised that they tend to always keep a rotating New Belgium handle, Anchor Porter and Anderson Valley IPA on tap. Happy hour is almost always active, in fact it's almost more like they have "unhappy hours" from 3 to 5. They always have some 21st Amendment cans as well. I haven't tried the food so I can't say anything about that, but it seems like it's mostly frozen stuff heated up in a microwave. There's just one tiny nagging thing that is really pretty dang bad: I think they clean their beer lines once a semester and you can definitely taste a certain level of funk in ALL the beers they have here. AND THAT SUCKS.

Samu S.

Yelp
A nice place to go when you're stranded at state and your trusty flask is out. It's reasonably priced with a varied beer selection. I agree about the slight hose funk though. Most bougie beers are 4oz/$1 during happy hours (anytime not 3-5pm), and you can cop a 24 of pabst for tree fiddy. 21st cans are $3 all day, my 3-5 go-to. Chill bartenders. Free peanuts are back, time for the liquid pb sando to make a reappearance. A great, centralized service for students, and the only place at state other than Jessie's (rip) where I'm usually satisfied with my purchase.

Dustin T.

Yelp
Avoid the Calzones. $5 and what you get is an over microwaved pos. I ordered the italian combo, and i think a Pizza hot pocket would've been better. Inside was just a paste of unknown cheese and meat filling. Drinks @ Happy Hour seem good. But definitely avoid ordering any food when you have a case of the drunkchies.

Jason C. J.

Yelp
Pros: - Conveniently on campus - Great selection of beers on top and in bottles - Friendly Staff Cons: - 1-2 Big Flat Screen tvs - Tables were sticky - Can get really loud during the 49ers and Giants games - Expensive beer - Closes early - Food looks questionable

Susan L.

Yelp
fast service, friendly ambiance, best and only place to get a drink on campus. they sell alcohol on campus, of course it deserves 5 stars. if you don't give this place 5 stars, that means you don't like beer, and shame on you. here here. they accept credit cards, you can get cheap food fast, you can watch the game and drink a beer.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
Not great, not awful. Sort of what you'd expect a pub to be like at a state school. The good stuff: -I cant get buzzed between classes - you can take you beer anywhere on that floor so you don't have to stay stuck in the pub - customer service is usually good, polite, and quick - Different happy hour every day The bad stuff: - the crowd inside can often be made up of hipster douchebags - Beer in a plastic cup....I'm sure that's some SFSU rule or something but it just doesn't make sense to me - food is disgusting...I haven't tried it but I can see it...better to just get some thai next door or pizza downstairs! Overall it's just so-so. I would never go out of my way to visit this pub but I do enjoy being able to drink on campus for a reasonable price.

Ann N.

Yelp
If you got time to spare or wanna just grab a drink in the afternoon, come here to relax. You can get a pitcher and sit out of the pub since it's so small. I go here a few times a semester to have a few beers with my boyfriend or just friends. Either way pull up a table and get a pitcher, just relax!

David W.

Yelp
Positives - pub on campus - lots of taps and can/bottle variety - small/intimate environment yet u can take beers to other tables on the same level - giants games with a beer just before a class is a great feeling - and again it's a freakin pub on campus Negatives - crowded during baseball season, good luck getting a seat inside - they don't have Lagunitas ipa :( my fav. Overall - grateful to have a pub on campus with lots of beers to choose from

Diane S.

Yelp
Best idea ever!! A pub on campus so smart! I wish csuchico had this, the extra three blocks to rileys would not be necessary. Cash only, i got paps no more than $3 for a pbr, nice dark pub to hang out after a presentation or a hard test. I would def. go to celebrate after a final, like right now!!! bahaha

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I was pretty stoked to learn that there was a pub on campus when I transfered here. Comeing from an area that has a dry campus any pub at all is awesome. It is pretty small, but they have a pretty decent selection of beers on tap. I was pretty impressed for the size. There are times that I wished they took atm cards, but I am sure that it is better they dont...

Katie S.

Yelp
I have since graduated from SFSU, and I wish I got to check this place out more...but you know...school is still school, even if it has a pub on campus. Good chicken strips, and they have some good beer specials. My only issues are that I wish there was more seating (especially since the school limits how far you can walk in that particular food hub with beer in hand), and it also gets pretty hot and stuffy. But I suppose that is one if the downsides to having a pub underground. They also only have one dude running the whole thing. You get your beer fast, but food takes about 10 minutes or so, depending on what you ordered. But other that that, its a casual, nice place to take a break from the books. Or in my case, the art building.

Thea M.

Yelp
I love the pub at sfsu. It is small but it is nice. Beer is always a good price. Great place to grab a drink before and/or after classes. They also have 3 flat screen TV so they are always playing the current sports game! Only downside - they are suppose to get bar food but that hasn't happened yet.

Kerry S.

Yelp
My spot ok I go here to grind on that homework and drink some wine, I feel so supported! The welcoming atmosphere is a plus.

Bah H.

Yelp
Honestly, I'd rather give this place a 2.5 than the 2 I'm giving it, but somebody's gotta offer a counterpoint to all the giddy, over appreciative reviews. I guess if you're uneducated on the subjects of wine and beer, and just want to get tanked at school, this would be five stars. Selections of both are either poor or adequate depending on your tastes, and beers are served in frat party style plastic cups. Only beer of note for me personally is Anderson Valley Hop Ottin IPA, which is far less enjoyable for being served in the cup, virtually murdering an otherwise excellent head. The better beers (non macros) cost 4.50 a 12oz or 6.00 a 24oz, with 1 dollar off noon to 2 pm. Stouts, porters, and barleywines are conspicuous by their absence. Haven't tried the food, heard from a friend it's pretty much all just thrown in the microwave, but I won't vouch for that. I'd like this place alot more, and give it alot more business, if they'd just give me a goddamn glass. Available, semi-potable beers as I recall: Pyramid hef, negro modelo, sierra nevada pale, newcastle brown, new belg fat tire. Many of these, including the Hop Ottin, are on tap, and I think they carry the current belgium seasonal. Please note that if you are just trying to get sauced, the IPA at 7% ABV is a way better way to go than that bud light with 4.2. You may even come to appreciate the difference. I wish there were a "Uncool" or "Nonsense" button to go with the "cool" "useful" and "funny" one because I'd press them for the budlight guy. And I guess like 12 humdrum, common, tasteless beer constitutes an "endless" list.

Clayton R.

Yelp
I don't understand why everyone's absolutely raving about this place. It's a dingy, standing-room-only hole-in the wall that is dimly lit. Let's face it--the place is sketch as hell. If I'm paying upwards of $6 dollars for 24oz of beer, it better damn well be in a glass, not a plastic cup. When I toast my friends to an effort well done or simply to get tipsy before class, I would like my cup NOT to cave in. Call me a snob, but I grew out of the whole frat scene in my undergrad years. There are better campus pubs elsewhere, but this is the best we've got on campus. Still, I'd sooner go to Chevy's for their happy hour than here.

Katie H.

Yelp
i drink bud light. but times are tough. the old man graduated law school and is having a hard time finding a job... the tuition at sfsu was increased by 20%... nursing school has a lot of hidden costs that sneak up on you. point is- i heart bud light but we just can't afford it in these depressing economic times. so i've switched to pbr. but even pbr can go above our weekly drinking stipend. luckily, there is the pub. i can get a 24oz pbr for 4 bucks. that's a good price. we can afford that. i think we might make it after all...

Lizzy L.

Yelp
beer in between classes = 4 stars. telling my professor that my group is going to study in the library annex during class time but actually going to the pub = 5 stars.

Virginia J.

Yelp
This place has a great ambiance, and they even have live bands here on a regular basis (some of them State students). I love that they have cider on tap for those of us who don't like beer. The prices are cheap and you can grab food from one of the vendors right underneath the bar. Great place to sit and study with friends!

Kevin Z.

Yelp
Best place to come after having a midterm or final and you just need a refreshing beer to relax and maybe watch the giants win the world series or watch the Warriors make playoffs. It's small but it kills the urge of having a beer after class without having to walk to far.

Jonathan P.

Yelp
The food is far from great here; but, who really cares. No one comes to The Pub for the food. We're all there for one thing, okay mayeb two. To drink after that stressful midterm, or to drink before that stressful midterm. It's all about getting your drink on on campus!

Sonya D.

Yelp
It's super cool that we have a pub on campus! I mean how great is it that I get to drink an affordable yummy beer after stressful presentations, midterms I thought I failed (but didn't thank god), and finals that mean the semester is coming to a close. Thank you SFSU pub for providing cheap drinks, yummy bar grub, good company, comfy chairs, and convenience! Cheers!

Anastasia P.

Yelp
It's a cheap bar on campus, what more can you ask for?! Sucks that you can't just mosey around campus with your drink but still cool nonetheless, at least you have the Depot down the hall.

Michelle B.

Yelp
A great atmosphere to get a drink and watch a game. Lots of locals. Hot dogs included. Only excepts cash but there is an ATM machine. It was opened on Sunday.

Arianna C.

Yelp
UMMMM.....Can I get a beer? Why, yes! you can at The Pub at SFSU they serve....o wait... beer! And lots of great choices at that. They have anything from the most popularly purchased PBR (that's Pabst Blue Ribbon for those of you who don't know..) all the way to such great beers as Anchor Steam, Blue Moon and Sierra Nevada. You can get them all at a great reasonable price and they have specials all the time too! If you are looking for somethin' to compliment that beer they have food at a great price. The Pub is a great place to go and hang with your friends, relax before that test or midterm, or after to celebrate or even catch some sports on tv. The service is friendly, and prompt and as I've become a regular they have become great friends of mine. All in all, the Pub is a great place and I recommend that any student (of age, don't forget your I.D.) stop on by and grab a junior or a big boy sometime you won't be disappointed! don't forget to tip! :)

Robert F.

Yelp
This was the place when I was a student here. The Depot was the other spot that I went to concurrently. The beer is expensive when compared to the cost. I could spend what I paid here for a large beer and get 2 40s from 7 eleven or any corner store. This place tends to not take into account the notion of POOR COLLEGE STUDENTS. But maybe they didn't get the MEMO! What they need is a suggestion box. #GETAFLASKANDKEEPITMOVING

Sandhya R.

Yelp
Cheap beers on campus plus bites to eat?...sounds good to me! The actual pub is smaller but you can always go to the Depot next door. Friendly staff and clean environment. This is where I go after a classes or exams to celebrate! If you're going with a large group I recommend you go with a pitcher. Don't expect any thing fancy think more along the lines of convenience.

Naimah N.

Yelp
When I was a student this was a great place to hang out. They had two happy hours to try to fit into your schedule. They also had food. When you aren't feeling bear they had sake and mike's lemonade.

Rachel F.

Yelp
I feel like I need to shower after being in the Pub for more than 5 minutes. That said, I'm grateful that SFSU isn't completely alcohol-free. They have Anchor Steam and Wyder's cider, which I'm happy about. I haven't had the food yet because it looks like it came straight out of Chernobyl.

Deanna G.

Yelp
oh the pub!!!!!! The famous pub to go to right after that dreaded midterm you just bombed.. or right before graduation! I miss you. I miss watching all the emo kids drink pitchers to themselves during lunch and breaks. I miss your microwaved food. Oh how I miss you. You gave me some good memories.

Kat L.

Yelp
FIVE STARS. That's right....FIVE. I'm being as giving as the depot has been for the past several months. Depot, Man, have you been great to me for awhile now. You welcomed me with open arms from the beginning. You made all those term papers quite enjoyable with the background sounds of the arcade games and Pokemon duels below. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I'd come down there and isolate myself within your "fuck cellphones" walls with my large cup of coffee and oversized 'on steroids' chocolate muffin (all from yours truly, cafe 101) and just marinate in the awesomeness that is the Depot for my class layovers. This place was most definitely my refuge when I was going through the "holy f, it's september and it's 45 degrees" moments in which I wore shorts and a t and needed a warm shelter to hide away in. I don't know what it is about the lighting down there, too, but it just made studying so much easier. So, thank you. Just to let you know, I've shared one of the best conversations in your creaky wooden chairs and I have to say my favorite spot was always the table beside the piano, in front of the stage. Speaking of, I will never forget that awkward, old Asian man who comes in to play the same chinese songs on repeat every single noon until 5 pm. He was the main reason why I stopped going for awhile (he used to always ask me to play the piano with him, I knew ONE song. He didn't care of course, and so I found myself playing Heart and Soul for 15 minutes at a time). He doesn't disrupt me anymore, I found that lack of eye contact does it. However, without the old Asian man playing his noon tunes, it just wouldn't be the same. At night, you promised me the musical stylings of the ever so "hip" kids from our campus, I loved the diversity of the open mic nights. Rack-N-Cue was a recently discovery of mine, since it was nestled between the Pizzeria and arcade machines...I could never get a Billards table which sucks, but that air hockey table NEVER does me wrong. Winning streak, ftw! The Pub Oh, awkward moments at its finest! I will never forget the time a friend and I went down to the Pub one Thursday afternoon after lunch for a brewski and ran into my rather dashing Math professor. What else was left to do but raise my cup, smile, and take a sip confidently? Nothing! This place is rather small but its cozy and just enough. It really is a nice little get away for some beers and to watch some ESPN. The Depot...you have made my freshman year of college a great one because of all the memories you've helped me create. Thanks for the chill atmosphere and the sound of arcade machines/people talking/drunk people conversing machinery. You will always have a place in my heart. PAYMENT: When it comes to cards as a way of payment, like every other place on campus now, you must have a minimum purchase of $5 in order to pay with a debit/credit card. Cash is your friend, make sure to withdraw if you're trying to cheat your way through a cheap meal in here!

Michael M.

Yelp
This is super cool because you can drink on campus and there tends to be great music going on. Be there for happy hour and be sure to bring friends so you can share a pitcher of beer. About 8 different beers on tap and they serve food. Can't complain about a place you can come to after classes and have a beer or two.

Ryan W.

Yelp
I'd rather crawl naked through broken glass than have another drink here. Would definitely visit again.

Dennis H.

Yelp
Go sf giants, just here watching the game! Very chill spot, good people too.

David C.

Yelp
An on campus pub with a wide selection of beers on tap. Though they are a bit expensive, you're not just paying for the beer, you're paying for the ability to drink right at school. They do offer lots of daily specials and lunch time happy hours which is nice.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Pretty small place but other then that, i like the atmosphere here. Friendly cashier/bartender and happy hour is everyday till 2 pm i think? Pretty chill place to post up and get a nice cold beer oh and there is always Ike's Place down stairs to grab a bite. 2 birds 1 stone?
