H Mart Chicago Reveals its Pan Asian Food Court Lineup | Eater Chicago

"Also known as So Gong Dong, SGD Tofu House & BBQ Restaurant is a chain where customers can pick a main ingredient—Korean short ribs (kalbi), tofu, or kimchi—and have it served as a stew, ramen, or rice; it also serves bibimbap, Korean barbecue, and dumplings. The chain has a Glenview location in the same Korean-food strip mall mentioned in the article." - Ashok Selvam

Love this place. It has great and consistent for tofu soup! I love that you can choose either ramen or hot stone rice as a side—it’s a nice touch. Kimchi beef tofu soup is my favorite, spicy please. The food was tasty, but what really stood out was the service. For a Korean restaurant, they went above and beyond: servers took turns checking in, offering refills on side dishes, water, and tea. They’ve also expanded their menu to include bento lunches and cold buckwheat soup, which is absolutely refreshing on a hot summer day. I share some with my kids. They love it so much that they ended up eating it all. I can’t blame this. If you’ve never tried cold noodle soup before, this is the perfect place to start.

I’ve been here many times and it’s always been pretty constant. Yet I always forget…: Few things to remember for next time: - ordering noodles means you won’t get the stone bowl. Nor the eggs. Don’t do it. Get rice, which means you’ll get a whole stone bowl of rice that you can crust and make into soup. - Ordering extra hot doesn’t mean it will be extra hot. They just add more pepper flakes, so the soup actually tastes flaky. But doesn’t really do much to make spicy. Get normal. - Green onion pancake is very thick. So so. I’ve just had a much better version from Jokbal Nightmarket down the street. - So, stick with their basics. Normal spicy level, good old rice, and no appetizers. Banchan is good enough!

Google
Korean restaurant in Chicago. We stopped by before leaving the city... food was amazing. We got 해물파전 & “섞어” 순두부찌개! I did regular spicy level since I'm not good with spicy.. and it was good & was able to handle it 😌❤️

The food is excellent and fresh. The tofu soup with mushrooms is delicious. The service is always prompt and very friendly. Highly recommend.

Google
Portions are generous. I was shocked to not get a dinner plate to eat the meal, even after asking for one. The waiter brought me a saucer sized dish. 😳 I ordered a large Bulgogi which came with rice and an assortment of fermented vegetables and fish cakes.

Google
The food is really good, we try the seafood pancake, the pork and beef bulgogi. Will be back definitely!

Google
We specifically drove here just for the tofu hot stone soup, and it did not disappoint! The tofu soup was amazing—rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. The entire experience at SGD was great, from the friendly service to the cozy atmosphere. I have to say I love their small dishes!!!The restaurant is located in a plaza with other great Korean food options too, making it a perfect spot if you’re craving authentic Korean flavors. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fantastic tofu soup and an overall excellent dining experience!

Google
This is my favorite SGD in Illinois! They can make the soft tofu soup with a water base for vegetarians, which I really appreciate. The service is always so friendly, and they even help load up the side dishes. The staff are attentive and check in often to see if we need anything. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We ordered SGD to go on a cloudy, chilly evening recently right as they opened shop. We were in a nearby park, and the commute would take us right to the restaurant when our order was ready, around 5:10pm. By the time we pulled into the parking lot, our order was bagged and still hot, ready to take home with no wait time at all. I really enjoyed their kimchi jjigae with beef, but I actually fought over it with the rest of my family and only had a few spoonfuls. The flavors are spot on, and you can adjust spiciness to your preference. The bibimbap I had was great, and they serve gochujang/sauce on the side for you to adjust to your liking. On the online ordering menu, there's also an option to adjust toppings to your preference (as with much of the menu options). We also really enjoyed the seafood pancake as an appetizer. The seafood was really fresh and perfectly, lightly seasoned. My partner's bento with pork katsu was a gigantic portion, with about two layers of katsu in addition to the sides of noodles, rice, cabbage, and salad. Generous portion for an affordable price! I think all of our food would have been even better in person given they do stone bowls to keep items piping hot.

Yelp
Been awhile since I've been here. Should come back more often. Food is still good. Prices have risen like everywhere else, but value for quality and quantity are still there. I have a saying, if you raise your prices, keep the same quality ingredients and portions. SGD does just that. They've added quite a few items since the last time I was there. There are bento boxes, ttukbokki and more meat options. I ordered my usual of seafood soondubu jjigae and seafood pancake. My daughter opted for the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) bento. It was huge! It comes with a huge pork cutlet, rice, japchae, mandu (dumplings) and a salad. She really enjoyed it. Next time she said she's going to try the bulgogi bento.

Yelp
Went here for a Friday lunchtime double date and it did not disappoint! The side dishes brought out were really delicious, a stand out was definitely the cucumbers. It was a colder afternoon, so it was really nice to have the tofu stew. Two of us ordered the seafood, the others ordered the kimchi beef, all with the stone pot rice. Everything was brought out quickly and piping hot! I got the mild spice, but I think I should've gone with the regular - it was definitely lighter than I would consider mild. The serving was large, and the waiter was very attentive. We had accidentally dropped a chopstick and within minutes the waiter came by and replaced it without us even needing to wave him down. So overall a really great experience and am looking forward to trying more dishes!

Yelp
Great place for a tofu soup . I especially love that it you can choose ramen or hot stone rice as a side with the soup. The food was good but their service was excellent for a Korean restaurant. Yelp
The food at SGD is consistent. I love their sides that come with the meal. The service is fast but they aren't going to be super attentive and come asking if you need anything if they're busy. It's usually pretty busy but it's solid for lunch or dinner. The prices have gone up significantly as of late but the portions and quality has stayed the same so no complaints.

Yelp
My husband and I came for the first time a few weeks ago and we have already been back a few times! It is so so so delicious! I have been craving their jjigae and on a cold winter day because it just hits the spot! I have now tried the beef & kimchi, dumpling, and beef jjigae. All of them just as good as the last. You have a variety of options on what to pair it with. My preference is the hot stone bowl of rice. The rice also comes with an egg that you can crack right into the jjigae. Trust me you want to do that! The flavors are all the perfect combination. If you aren't sure about the spice level the first time we went our server told us that if we like Shin Ramen the mild will be fine. I can completely agree! The banchan (side dishes) they serve you are also sooo good! My personal favorites are the kimchi, cucumbers, and radish. They also give you a pitcher of barley tea when you sit down. If you've never had it before I encourage you to try it! It has a nice toasted nutty flavor to it! Everyone is so friendly here and my husband and I can't wait to keep tasting the rest of the menu! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
Fall Friday nights means that soup season has finally begun. Coming here for Soon Dubu with Mixed beef & seafood and Kalguksu noodles was exactly what my soul needed! The umami was perfect. You can choose your spice level. The banchan angels refilled our side dishes without even us needing to ask! Bibimbap chicken in a stone bowl was nice! The stone bowl was more like a plate, which provided more surface area for that crispy rice that we love! It was yummy! Overall the food was great! The staff were very nice and the place was quite busy. We will be back!

Yelp
Prompt, professional and pleasant service. Consistent quality of authentic flavorful food. Uncomplicated menu. Clean premises including washrooms. Almost all the customers eating here is Korean. Seafood sundubu was stellar. You can specify the spiciness level. Try the regular for a little kick, not really burn-your-mouth spicy. Comes with a raw egg and steamed rice in a hot stone bowl. The beef short ribs come in a sizzling cast iron plate with sliced onions and with a bowl of rice. This dish came with tongs and kitchen scissors to cut the meat off the bone. Banchan side dishes including kimchi were pleasant complements. We especially loved the crunchy bean sprouts. Prices are reasonable in this time of inflation.

Yelp
Last time I had SGD, it was take out order out of their Schaumburg location. While their locations soon tofu was good, it had very limited amount of seafood, if I recall, few pieces of shrimp, squid and clams. I enjoyed the dish, it was well seasoned and flavor was on par. Get the stone rice, definitely worth it. One disappointment with their soon tofu - very limited amount of seafood. It has few shrimps, clams, one oyster and no squid. The banchans were good, my favorite was the cucumber kimchi. The refills are free so you can ask for more. The haemul pajeon was decent, while perfectly seasoned, it lacked crispy exterior as I had expected. The spicy pork was good as well, it wasn't sweet, which was nice. Interior is simple and the place does get busy during lunch, especially during the weekends. Don't let the "& BBQ" name fool you, they don't have bbq tables for grilling, etc.

Yelp
Not sure if it was a bad day for me but not the greatest Korean food I had. *** Overall sweet, didn't meet my standards/expectations - I grew up in Northern VA/DMV so I had a lot of Korean food my entire life - the bulgogi was dry and probably was cooked for too long, it was sitting it the liquid it was cooked it so got soggy over time - the flavoring was too sweet for my preference, but that's how Korean food is - I got kalguksu noodles with the jjigae, that's why it did NOT in a stone pot and does NOT come with the complimentary egg (I did not know about this) - side dishes were good but again with a predominant sweet taste to all of them *** Overall friendly service! - Went when it was busy dinner rush so had to wait a bit - Uses yelp waiting list! - Worker also came around asking for more side dishes - Surprised me but they gave us the check after 15 min after getting our food

Yelp
My girlfriend likes, so it's definitely a 5/5. She's very picky. She doesn't enjoy Iron Age next door. She'd prefer this. Food came out really quick. The banchan was very good. Kimchi was very good and not sour like other places. I enjoy the fast and friendly service. This place was filled with koreans yet service was very quick. This is how you know this place is good, when their own people enjoy the food too. She was very happy with the complimentary hot tea. Update: went back a second time (THE BANCHAN IS FREE AND UNLIMITED)

Yelp
Solid food every time. The seafood pancake is my favorite, but I've never had a bad dish here. Same menu as the stall inside HMart, but this location has generous portions of side dishes, refillable upon request. Friendly staff that can get overwhelmed at times. Feel free to wave them down if you need a glass of water or more side dishes. The energy is bustling but not overwhelming. The clientele is made up of young people, older people, families, Koreans, and non-Koreans.

Yelp
We love SGD. This location specifically is amazing. The workers restock the appetizers without you even asking. Located in a plaza which makes parking quite easy. Food comes out super quick too!

Yelp
A great spot for delicious Korean food. They are very generous with the portion sizes and include lots of appetizers with the meal. This was busy when I went to eat here but they went through the waitlist quickly. My favorite item here was the beef bulgogi though the tofu stew was great on a cold day. I highly recommend So Gong Dong for great Korean food!

Yelp
I absolutely love soondubu and am so pleased that there's multiple locations of SGD around Chicagoland. The spicy, silky tofu is really the perfect food to enjoy in the winter, making you feel all cozy and warm inside. I usually don't venture out to the suburbs very much, but I was visiting a friend so it was the perfect opportunity to try out this SGD. I visited on a cold Saturday night and this place was packed. However, the 30-minute wait did not scare us and my friends and I waited in the car until our table was ready. We were promptly seated upon entering the restaurant and given some water and side dishes. One of my favorite parts of SGD is the side dishes. They're very generous with their portions and they're all very delicious. I ordered a soondubu with beef and kalguksu (the flat noodles) at regular spice. The flavors were impeccably balanced, better than any other SGD location I've been to. It may have tasted extra delicious because of a combination of how cold it was outside and my hunger. I'm not sure. The service is pretty good and attentive, with water being replenished whenever we were running low. Given that the restaurant was completely packed, this is impressive. I also really appreciate the affordable pricing and large portions. I had enough leftover for a whole another meal a few days later! I will definitely continue visiting SGD, especially in the winter. Food: 4.75/5 Service: 4.5/5 Price: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Overall: 4.75/5

Yelp
I see why they're busy. The portions are huge for a fairly good price. Was recommended to try the kalguksu noodles. I got that with the Soondubu Jjigae beef mild. It came out quick in a huge metal bowl. Lots of tofu and a decent amount of beef. I didnt finish the tofu. There were a lot of noodles as well. I'd describe the noodles almost like udon but more glassy. I was extremely stuffed after. The bonchons were also good. I really liked their kimchi cucumbers.

Yelp
4.5/5 It's the kind of day in Glenview, IL where the wind's blowing with a slight chill, but the sun's out to warm you up but just not enough. I craved a bowl of something, anything warm and SGD Dubu just hit right on the spot. I was worried that picking a place to eat that was franchise of a chain of restaurants would be kind of a bust, but this place covered it all from food to vibes to service. The restaurant at this location really captured the essence of the community it catered to. I mean, you've got a H-Mart down the street, several Korean stop shops, and as soon as you walk into SGD Dubu, you're hearing rhythms of Hangul. I ordered the mushroom soondubu jjigae (with veggie broth) while asking them to accommodate for allergies and being vegetarian, which they did respectfully. I also received and was replenished with banchan (side dishes) while I was eating. I took on the oi muchim (spicy cucumber salad) and danmuji (pickled radish). The ramen noodles in my soondubu jjigae were cooked through with a fantastic broth and perfect balance to the heat, and flavor. I appreciated the pricing, the constant checks throughout my meal, but had to dock the 0.5 because I didn't feel as though the food gave the extra umph. It was a well-balanced and tasteful meal, but it fell flat. I don't want that to cloud over the fact that the service was amazing. It was also an amazing meal in the late fall/brink of winter.

Yelp
One of my favorite Korean restaurants in the area. Everything on their menu is solid, from the tofu soup to their bibimbap to their bento boxes. Even their side dishes are delicious and all the veggies taste fresh. The prices for the dishes are reasonable and with tax around $20. Service was prompt and friendly. And the inside of the restaurant is always bustling. Highly recommend this restaurant for some Korean comfort food.

Yelp
My favorite korean place to get soup. They are always busy when I go but only because the food is great. The service is always responsive regardless of how busy they get and the food is always super hot and fresh when I order. I like how they always serve my rice with the hot barley tea so I can make a soup out of it.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the most delicious bowls of jjigae! I've been coming here almost every month to satisfy my craving! My go-to order is jjigae regular spice level, with dumplings, and ramen instead of rice. Such a comforting meal especially on a cold day. I enjoy the marinated cucumbers, daikon radish, and kimchi brought to the table beforehand. Huge shoutout to the waitstaff who gladly served me 20 min before close and even brought me a shout wipe when I spilled all over my sweater. Oops!

C L.

Yelp
Food was fine and service was just alright. I gave a $20 tip and wrote the final tab on the receipt. However they took the liberty of charging me 20% instead so I was surprised at how much higher my final bill was on my credit card. It's not worth the dispute for me but I would keep an eye on what they actually charge you. Not very honest...

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Fast service. The place was full and staff was responsive, helpful, and inviting. Free bonchon refills. The best Korean I have had without having gone to Korea.

Chendara L.

Yelp
Whenever I'm here I always start with the tea. The waiter was quick to get me seated and brought out the side dishes that come with the meal. My favorites are the fish cakes and cucumber. I love getting the soondubu jjigae on cold days. It hits the spot. I chose to have beef and mushrooms with udon. The mushrooms were a little chewy which I like. The beef was on the chewy side as well, but I don't mind. I always leave here full and satisfied. Just as an FYI if you have never been here, I feel like the heat levels are a hit or miss. I've been here where I order a level 4 and felt nothing. Then there are those other days... where a level 2 was definitely not a 2.
google avatar

Della S.

Yelp
I ordered beef bibimbap and fried dumplings to go. Order took ~20 mins to be ready. Staff is friendly. Beef bibimbap is a bit salty for me. The fish cake side dish is good. Fried dumplings is good too. Whenever I don't know what to eat, I usually go to SGD tofu.

Yelp
My husband and I went to SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu and BBQ, and met a friend there for dinner. We went on a Saturday night. When we walked in, we could see that they were busy, but they were able to seat us right away. Despite the busyness of the restaurant, the servers were attentive, and we were able to order pretty quickly. We ordered the beef bulgogi, the pork bulgogi, and the dumpling soondubu jjigae. The beef bulgogi was sweet, while the pork bulgogi was a little spicy. The dumpling soup was very good. The fresh tofu added a lot of flavor to the dish. Each meal includes corn, radishes, fish cake, cucumbers, and kimchi cabbage as appetizers. The food and service were both excellent. I highly recommend SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu and BBQ!
google avatar

Nolan F.

Yelp
My soondubu jjigae at "less spicy" had good flavor and amount of heat. I got pork in the soup and it was tender and good quantity. Stone bowl rice was cooked to the perfect texture I like. Seafood pancake was crispy, great amount of seafood and spring onion, but too doughy. My friends liked their soondubu jjigae, soondubu ramen, and bibimbap. Service was good and ample free parking.

Yelp
RATING: 7.6/10 We stopped in here after seeing the crazy amount of good reviews (and after getting discouraged from texas roadhouse by an hr 30 wait) and I'm so glad we did! We went around 7 on a Saturday and although there was a long line when we got there, we were seated in only 20 minutes (5 ppl)! The banchan were delicious with the pickled cucumbers being the highlight! We also loved the tea they served. As for the food: -Soon Du Bu Soup - We got the seafood version at a regular spice level which had just the right amount of heat! Came with an egg which I can appreciate in these hard times. -Pork Bulgogi - Wonderfully sweet and spicy! I loved how juicy the pork was. -Beef Bulgogi - Pretty standard but still delicious! The food came with plenty of rice to pair and these three dishes were the perfect amount for 5 people!

Yelp
The first thing I noticed is that they serve Bolicha (barley tea), which automatically tells me this is a good/more traditional restaurant. And they serve bibimbap and bap in dolpan (stone bowls). I love sundubu and this was definitely a good one. If you don't know how to eat sundubu, this is how I do it. First, you crack the egg into the soup so it can cook in the hot soup. Then take the rice out of the stone bowl and put hot water into the stone bowl to make nurung Ji (scorched rice). And then you just put a little bit of soup onto your rice and you have the perfect bite! The bulgogi was a little on the sweet side, but it was still delicious. If you're not the most adventurous eater, you'll definitely like this. Lastly, the bibimbap was full of veggies and had a good amount of octopus. They also give you more chojang (sweet and spicy chili pepper sauce) on the side so you can make it as spicy as you want. The service was also really great! They were attentive to our needs like getting us more banchan (side dishes), water, etc. The banchan was also really delicious, they have kimchi, pickled radish, cucumber kimchi, and odeng (fish cake). Definitely head over here if you're looking for good Korean food!

Yelp
Fantastic! Love everything about this place - we arrived early (~5pm) on a Tuesday, and I recommend doing so, because it fills up fast. We got seated pretty much immediately but by 6pm, there was already a wait of about 3-4 parties long. The service was always very friendly. They're so busy, they may forget some asks sometimes, but all in all, they try their best and they're pretty on top of their game. You get barley tea automatically when you get seated. Their menu is relatively simple, with their big buckets being tofu stew, bibimbap, bento box, and grilled meats, with protein options to choose from for all of them. So it's a great spot for a wide variety of dietary needs. Everyone gets the spattering of Korean sides to share, and they were all delicious, with the pickled radish being the standout item. Side dishes: kimchi, spicy cucumbers, tofu skin, corn salad, pickled daikon. Our meals came with an egg drop-ish soup, and got: - Veggie bibimbap - served on a hot stone plate, the rice was nice and fluffy, and crispy on the underside, great mix of goodies. - Kimchi pancake - SO good, this, and likely the seafood pancake, are musts. The kimchi pancake is not spicy at all, a bit sour due to the kimchi being pickled, perfectly cooked with a little bit of chew, and crunch from being pan fried. Best part of the meal, for sure. A bit pricy, since it's about the same cost as an entree, but worth it! - Pork bulgogi bento box - Came with a couple fried dumplings, little salad, rice, and bulgogi. Everything was yum, the bulgogi was thinly sliced, nicely marinated, a little on the chewier side, but still really delicious. The rice was perfectly fluffy and sticky to stay together easily when you scooped it up with some saucy bulgogi. The three dishes together was about $60 including tax and tip, so not the cheapest place to eat, but also not the worst. Definitely worth the trip if you love Korean food!

Yelp
On a chilly day, Korean spicy tofu soup is just what you need to warm up your soul. This restaurant is located in a small shopping mall filled with variety of Korean food options and parking lot. They have limited menu but they specialize in Korean tofu soup or Soon Du Bu. You can choose what main ingredient you want inside the soup ranging from beef, pork, seafood, mushrooms, and mixed. You can choose spicy level, personally recommend the medium spicy. My favorite is to get the stone pot rice as it comes in hot stone pot that will crispy up the sides. Scoop up the rice and leave the crispy rice on the pot. Servers will come by to offer you some barley tea to be added to the pot. Do it. This will create a nutty rice porridge/soup for you to enjoy afterwards. Dinner is around 14.99 right now and lunch special pricing offered during lunch time M-F.

Yelp
This is a good place to eat authentic Korean food, but for me, it is by no means the 'Best' Korean place. For one, there is no BBQ grill on the table: everything is cooked in the kitchen. However, I may be a unique customer, because I recently moved from my home of 27 years in Los Angeles, back to Chicago (but not really Chicago proper, because I am now living, due to circumstances, in McHenry County). Los Angeles has the largest Korean population outside of Korea, so I cannot deem to compare my experiences there with any attempt at offering Korean food in Glenview. With that in mind, 'SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ', located in a Glenview strip-mall is an amazing Korean restaurant, offering dishes that are both authentic and accessible to an American pallet. In my humble former Angelino opinion, I think that the prices here are a little high, and the menu is a bit narrow, with maybe three or four different meat preparations offered in different sets, making the menu appear to offer 20 or more different meals. This is a trickster move, but maybe the folks of Glenview won't stray from those 3-4 meats (Galbee, Bulgogi, Dak Galbee (grilled chicken), and Mando (meat stuffed dumplings). 'SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ' is a franchise restaurant chain from South Korea, with hundreds of branches throughout Asia and the World, including more than a dozen in the United States. So I have to believe that 'SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ' knows what it's doing. And the customer base proves this. My girlfriend and and I arrived at an off-hour and we still had to wait 10 minutes for a table. The service was excellent: our waiter spoke fluent English (a rarity) and when I asked for some special Korean condiments he brought them to me right away (as they clearly had them waiting for their Korean-only customers). Our meals were delicious, and, unknown to most Americans, 'SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ' will refill your clear soup as if it were soda or tea. I had a great time here - and when we left, the restaurant was packed, with nearly half of the customers being white Glenview folk. So, putting all of my self-superior Korean-Angelino opinions aside, this is a great, American-friendly Korean eatery that is paving the way for common Americans to snuggle up to authentic Korean food without having to eat fermented fish of cow intestines. I applaud 'SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ' for this. BUT, 'SGD Dubu So Gong Dong Tofu & BBQ' is missing a seriously important customer base: Hispanics. In Los Angeles, on the weekends, the largest ethic group of customers dining at Korean meat restaurants other than Koreans, were Hispanic families: huge crowds and tables full with Hispanic families. For every white couple there were five Hispanics. The only problem is - the Hispanic community will never go for the inflated price point. They're too smart for that.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come back here for lunch and this time, I tried their squid bibimbap and seafood pancake. The bibimbap was fresh, plentiful and came with rice and soup. It was a generous amount for a lunch portion so I took the rest home for dinner! Personally, I found the pancake to be bland without the sauce. Again, we had to flag down our server when we needed his attention. We came 5 mins after it opened and it got busy real fast! Now I'm thinking what I'll try on my next visit!

Yelp
My mother loves this place. She had a craving for bi bimbop so we headed over. No wait on a Thursday so we got lucky! My mushroom soon dofu was delicious but mom's dish was even better hamul dosot bibim bop was incredible! She did say it was missing the fern shoots. Still, I finished her dish so didn't bother me.

Yelp
Efficiently run, this place has authentic Korean food. 90% of people dining in were Koreans which tells you something. Prices were reasonable, too.

Yelp
Really consistent every time I go. The soup is piping hot and hearty. The portion size is great, although the prices seem to keep rising everytime I go back.

Yelp
Very delicious! This review is closer to 4.5. Great soondoobu and they even let you choose to add ramen, kalguksu, or udon for a dollar extra. We also got Kalbi and it was some of the tastiest kalbi I've ever had at a tofu soup place. The banchan was also fresh and very yummy fish cakes but wished there was more variety.

Yelp
Great service and great food! Restaurant was almost full on a Saturday afternoon. I can certainly understand why. Really loved all of the side dishes as well. Will be back!

Yelp
Spicy tofu is always perfect especially on a cold winter day. The waiters were all so kind and check-in on us every so often to make sure we were good and if we needed any more side dishes. Ordering: the menu is simple and straight to the point. There are 3 steps in ordering. 1. Choose the type of tofu stew you want 2. Choose the spicy level 3. Choose either rice, noodles, or hot stone bowl rice

Yelp
The food is decent overall, though the variety of banchan is limited. However, the service is impressively fast and efficient, which makes for a pleasant dining experience.

Yelp
Been craving sundubu for a while. This is by far the best sundubu in the Chicago area. The staff was all very friendly and attentive. It's something small but never having to ask for water refills and just always having it full was great as I drink a lot of water. It's the little things that count! Pro tip, put the egg in as soon as the soup comes out so that it cooks enough!

Yelp
First time came to SGD today. It was super busy at night time. Even for Togo order it will take 30 mins. Wow. Their mobile line was not really working. So I have to order thru walk in. The environment is cozy, warm and loud. Just like traditional Korean restaurants. My grandpa and grandma love their food. My favorite dish is beef + kimchi tofu soup with knife cut noodle. It's delicious! Downside is the staff made a mistake. I asked for mild not medium spicy. Still good tho.

Yelp
Their banchan portions are pretty decent and their seafood pancake is the best! This is prob the best seafood pancake ive ever had. Service is quick and friendly. We live in dtown chicago and we dont mind driving almost hr to get there bc of their food and affordable prices. Most korean places charge so much for their food but this place is very affordable. Menu options might be not that many but its delicious. Our server dont know his name but big guy with glasses he is super polite.

Yelp
Good food, lousy atmosphere, acceptable service... this is a fine place for a family meal where you want to ignore your loud teenagers and their friends at the end of the table. For a business lunch where you want to have a private conversation, consider someplace else. I came here for a business lunch on a Thursday. The open, modern, uninspired dining room was packed. My companion and I both ordered Soondubu Jjigae which came in a stone bowl literally boiling. This is not a place to bring an infant that might put their hand in Daddy's hot soup! The food was quite good and the accompanying condiments were tasty and fresh. I got "regular spicy" which was flavorful for an American palate used to a little heat. We had to talk loudly to each other during the entire meal and it was hard to hear above the cacophony across the dining room. Portion sizes were fine and prices competitive.
