Service and cleanliness has really gone downhill here. I came here with a group of friends midweek for a post-workout dinner, and although the restaurant was only maybe 50% full, it took us quite a while to get seated. Then it took a bit of time to get our order in. After that, we had to constantly ask for things that we needed: sesame paste, water refills, bowls, ladles, etc. It felt like we were constantly bugging the staff, which we felt bad about. I think they had a million things to do at once, so they can't preemptively act on what the customer might require. Instead, they just do as they are told because it's a little easier to operate that way. There was one older employee in particular that was working so hard! Bless his soul.
A table of 6 only has 2 pots to share. I think it would make sense to have 3 pots, but the tables aren't set up that way. You can request split pots to make it easier. There's 6 broths to pick from and it's a limited menu of regular vs large size pork/beef/lamb (or combo of 2 meats), as well as a vegetarian option. There's also an unlimited food or food/drink combo with a time limit of 1.5 hours. Obviously, the whole table has to partake in the unlimited option.
I thought the broths were okay, nothing special. The veggie plate is also rather mediocre. You get some napa cabbage, spinach, mushroom, kabocha, tofu, asparagus and some udon noodles. It's not much variety and not really worth the price you pay.
You also get the option of rice or noodles with your meal, as well as a scoop of ice cream. We were given a choice of green tea, red bean, or mango. Only half of my group opted in for ice cream. I'd skip the mango. It tastes completely artificial with no mango essence, and more of a floral rosewater flavor.
Automatic 15% service fee is added for parties up to 5, and 18% for parties of 6+. It's been years since I've last visited this restaurant (very limited shabu options in the peninsula!), but based on this experience, I doubt I'd come back.
