Was introduced to this place 3 years ago. It’s in a strip mall full of places to eat, and mail/hair lash extensions. Best broths are Spicy Miso and Sukiyaki. But any of the broths are great when you add the spices. Protein favorites are pork belly and New York steak. I hear the lamb is fantastic.

Fantastic spot. The small Japanese hot pot makes a great light and tasty lunch. Scoop broth into your bowl at the end with your noodle of choice for extra goodness. Don't worry about coming in if it's hot outside, they will have the AC on for you! Go for a medium hot pot for a big dinner.

I recently visited a Japanese shabu-shabu restaurant with friends, and it was a unique experience focused on the cooking process. As someone who usually eats quickly, it was a great opportunity to slow down and enjoy the process . The restaurant is perfect for groups of two people, they only had one table for 4 people. It was my first time trying shabu-shabu, and I found it to be a fun learning experience. The food was light and healthy despite being quite filling. The variety of soups was a highlight, especially one with a distinct lemongrass aroma that brought back travel memories. I highly recommend it!

We stopped by yesterday and pleasantly surprised. I’ve had Shabu before but not this place. It was flavorful. I can’t speak to auto since I’ve never been to Japan but this was pretty tasty. I had the AYCE #3 and spicy miso broth. When I return to SD, I plan to revisit. I’m an omnivore so I can’t speak to vegan/vegetarian options.

Google
The AYCE options at Shabu Shabu are a great deal. Thinly sliced pork, New York sheak, mussels, shrimp, tofu, salmon & chicken served with an abundant selection of veggies (cabbage, spinach, mushrooms, etc). The dipping sauces are flavorful without being overbearing and the sukiyaki broth pairs perfectly with both meat and veggies. The delightful server (sorry, I can't remember his name!) is fantastic. We hadn't been to Shabu Shabu in nearly a year and he still remembered us. No matter how busy it is he's always attentive and personable - - making everyone who walks through the door feel welcomed.

Google
Great spot for hot pot. Fresh ingredients, solid broth options, and fast service. The service and vibe is warm and cozy. Perfect for a group hangout or a cozy dinner. We plan to come back at least monthly

Google
The fire spot next door had a 2 hr wait so we decided to come here. Everything was good from the broth, to the meats, to the choices. Also props to the guy who was working tonight with his one friend. Managing multiple customers at once and running back and forth bringing things out, he really did his best. We’ll be back soon. Mahalo!

Google
Sukiyaki is great! I'm not very familiar with shabu-shabu and I'm glad I cane here with friends who love this restaurant. They walked me through the menu and how to prep and eat it. The broth is very tasty. It has so much flavor. Boiling the veggies and cooking the meat added more flavor to it. I was so full and satisfied with the food.

Yelp
An awesome spot with great food and service. Didn't try the AYCE since the large fills me up. Would I come back? Yes.

Yelp
A reliable and cozy spot for individual hot pot with fresh ingredients and great flavor. The sukiyaki-style broth is rich and satisfying--perfect for cooking the prime rib and udon noodles. The individual pot setup is a huge plus, letting you fully customize your meal. Even the small portion comes with plenty of meat, veggies, and noodles, plus a few extras like fruit at the end. Service is friendly and attentive. Staff checks in regularly and keeps things moving without rushing you. The space is clean, calm, and comfortable. Only downside is parking--it can be tough during peak hours, so street parking might be your best bet. Overall, if you're craving a solid, flavorful hot pot experience in a low-key setting, Shabu Shabu House is a great choice.

Yelp
Loooved this shabu spot in Convoy! We had no trouble getting a resy over the phone for a party of 4 on a Saturday night. It's a small, quaint spot with majority seating at the bar and two tables that seat 4 people each. We all ordered a la carte and I felt that the portions for the protein and veggies were enough to make us full. Broths were delicious! My faves were the sukiyaki and spicy miso. I think only two people were working on the floor, but they still managed to check on our table regularly :). Only con is parking is sooo tough in this area esp on a weekend but that's nothing new.
google avatar

Cristina S.

Yelp
The food is always so fresh and amazing! I love how the server has to go down the center of all the tables. You truly get a sense of community and it such a great feeling.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Similar to Mokkoji style for shabu shabu with more free broth options! No mix and match but overall quality is good at a slightly lower price. PARKING IS TERRIBLE HERE. Do not park in this plaza, park on a side street or another plaza and walk over

Yelp
Love this place. Kirby is the best. My favorite is the tom yum base with beef. I also like the pork belly and salmon. Great place to bring friends.

Yelp
Nice shabu place with a lot of variety. The meat and seafood are fresh and taste great with the soups. Service is excellent and attentive. Recommend stopping by if you are in the area!

Yelp
Been here countless times, it's always delicious and hits the spot. Service is excellent and has a chill atmosphere.

Yelp
Fun individual Japanese hot pot! Variety of broths to choose from, my favorites are the sukiyaki and miso (without spicy). They have AYCE and a la carte options. Veggie plate and rice or noodles come with your order. The veggies have been consistently fresh and tasty, and pork is my go to. I just love having lots of foods to pick at and the flavors are light. You can order beer or other drinks from here as well. Overall just a casual feel here and I love that. Also, Kirby is a Superman serving everyone in the restaurant almost always by himself!

Yelp
Delicious shabu shabu, I order today chicken and ribeye in a Tom Yum base and was amazing great service as always. Thanks!!!

Yelp
One of the OG hotpot place in San Diego. The whole restaurant is bar style seating, except for two 4 seater tables. So if you're going to attend as a group of 5 or more, it would be a good idea to call in and make a reservation. You can do All You Can Eat (AYCE) or a la carte. With AYCE, there are different tiers based on the meats and if you want seafood or not. With a la carte, you can order regular or large sizes of whatever meat or seafood. There are also 3 different soup bases to choose from: spicy miso, sukiyaki, or lemon grass. I usually do a large order of the lamb with the spicy miso and take half home because I can't finish it all. Also, if you like spicy, ask for the spicy drops! I love spicy and 2 to 3 drops is plenty spicy. You will get a dish of veggies, rice, and you can pick between udon or ramen to complement your protein. There are 2 different sauces that you can dip everything in. Just be aware that if you come at the wrong time then you will have to wait for a spot to sit because of the nature of the bar style seating.

Yelp
Love coming here on a cold night, shabu shabu definitely hits the spot when it's cold. Parking is rough in the Convoy area in general, so I highly suggest parking down the street to avoid the crowded parking lot. Thank goodness for Kirby! We've been coming here for years and Kirby always takes great care of us. I suggest arriving close to opening as seating is limited and there can be a wait. We get the original broth, udon noodles, and white rice with prime beef; a medium size is plenty of food! The broth is umami and everything always tastes delicious. If you're a spice lover, ask for the spicy drops; be warned that it's made with ghost peppers. We will continue to come back here, it's one of our staples! I will always recommend to anyone who loves shabu shabu!

Yelp
Really good and fresh food. Me and my party had curry and traditional broth, along with lamb, ribeye and pork cuts of meat. All of it was really good and fresh. I would come back again!
google avatar

Yelp
I am a sucker for a rainbow of vegetables and multitude of toppings being served with my hot pot. And the mushrooms! everything is so good, but the spicy miso is to die for! There was only one guy serving the round table and he killed it!

Erica Jane A.

Yelp
This restaurant was a very delightful surprise on our trip to San Diego. Very delicious food and drinks. The broth was so rich. Thank you lots to the guy who served us.

Yelp
Always amazing. I love the Sukiyaki broth but have also really enjoyed the Tom Yum! If you have a large party, make sure you call ahead.

Yelp
Perfect for the shabu shabu purist! I don't often eat enough to justify AYCE, so Shabu Shabu House was perfect for me. It's a humble spot that serves VERY good shabu. We tried the sukiyaki and Tom yum broths which were both really flavorful. But after tasting their sauces, we should have gone with the plain kombu and water because the sauces were the most flavorful shabu sauces I've ever had at a restaurant! The New York beef slices were huge and the shrimp we got were super fresh. The best part of non-AYCE shabu is taking the leftovers home. We now have delicious broth for tomorrow's lunch. :) Overall, we were really impressed and we'll definitely be back!

David R.

Yelp
This place is good tbh. I came here with this guy I met from Coachella that lives in the area. We ate together and had a fun time making our food (which cooks pretty quickly) together just tossing stuff in the pot. If you're not big back then the small is good tbh. Also we got rice/ ramen choice and an egg each. I had a sapporo

Yelp
I liked this restaurant a lot more than I thought I would. You ask for food and it keeps coming. Great service and atmosphere. Not a quiet place to dine because of all the shabu shabu cooking around you, but not so loud you can't have a conversation. I'm coming back for sure.

Yelp
This place is an old favorite. In fact, I think the last time we were there was 15 years ago. Went last night to celebrate some birthdays and four of us ate, drank and walked away with $150 bill. Super reasonable for fresh delicious food! You pick your base. If it's your first time trying Shabu, get the traditional. Make your sauces. Add radish, green onion and chili oil to that amazing ponzu sauce. Add garlic and green onions to the sesame sauce. Then you pick your protein. Go with the medium prime beef. Melts in your mouth. Then you pick your noodles. Udon or ramen. Pick udon. It's more traditional. Walk out of there with a full belly and a happy heart. But first take a picture with the cherry blossom mural. It's very simply decorated with Instagramable spots! Cant wait to go back!

Yelp
Amazing selection! Great service! They offer wagyu meet for dinner!! Love the passion fruit juice here
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and the food is just right for its price! My first time here, I tried the Sukiyaki soup base with pork belly which was delicious and a perfect dinner for a Sunday night. The restaurant has dim lighting and soft music great for dinner with friends. Shoutout to our waiter Kirby for making our experience there great!

Yelp
I love Shabu Shabu house. It is the rare restaurant on convoy that has a mellow and warm environment plus delicious hot pot. I first discovered this place with my friend after we were unable to get a seat at a nearby restaurant. I have gone four times and every time I'm there it is not full but also not empty and there are always regulars. The food is delicious. I particularly like the tom yum soup it is sour, rich, and tangy like versions at Thai restaurants. I have tried other soups as well and they are all well seasoned and delicious. The menu is very simple and straightforward you just choose your protein and soup preference, and can add noodles and or rice. Every order comes with a generous plate of vegetables. I highly recommend this place anytime you're searching for a warming meal by yourself or with some friends.

Gozeon H.

Yelp
Countless time coming here. Every time it is the same -- enjoyable, delicious. The service is fast enough especially if you come on weekdays. Overall, that's why I keep coming here. Pork belly is the king!
google avatar

Jerry C.

Yelp
Went there on a busy Friday and was quickly greeted and seated! There's a lot of options with soup base and choice of meat, and I added ramen to the hot pot as well. Overall can't go wrong with hot pot, good vibes all around!

Yelp
We came and conquered the all you can eat Food: was amazing. (3) tiers of all you can eat options. Large servings sizes of the meat. And came with a dish of veggies. You are able to ask for more veggies. Noodles are served upon request Service was fast and friendly. Did have to ask for them to turn down the flame once the broth boiled out of controllably. But only had to ask once The ambiance is simple and quaint . Location has been there for about 20 years and you can tell in some aspects . Over all: amazing hot pot location. Different than the the buffet style locations we've been to. They also have options to buy meat plates instead of all you can eat. I most likely try this next time since the all you can eat was a lot.

Yelp
Kirby was so amazing with his service. Took good care of us. Best Shabu in San Diego!!!

Yelp
The Food was very delicious, and the service was quick and precise, we love coming here. Definitely highly recommend this place when together with friends or a date. Or maybe if you just wanna get away and have some genuine delicious Japanese cutlery.

Yelp
First impressions: Small/intimate atmosphere with a U-shaped bar setting. I like the individual pots. Looks like only one person running front of the house, but he's working it. The food was great! I love shabu and everything about this place enhanced the experience. The meat was on par with anywhere else I've been and I was never waiting for the next round. Well done Shabu Shabu House.

Yelp
Was a great experience dining with Nicole and Kenny. I really enjoyed my food and ordered the lychee colada drink - was super yummy. Service was super quick.

Yelp
Food and cuts of meat was prepared extremely fresh, and soup base was very well balanced. We had a wonderful dinner with family. Kirby, the server, was prompt and always checked in to make sure we were good. Excellent service and highly recomme

Yelp
Nice little shop with many traditional options available. The service were super friendly and accompanying; our server Kirby was serving several other groups and still manage to provide us with the best service!

Yelp
Always the hot spot for shabu! I always love the single order of the medium spicy miso with the New York cuts. Its very much of that Japanese feeling that makes this spot special
google avatar

Yelp
Great chill environment with good food, good portions, & nice workers! Would def come back next time!

Sharone J.

Yelp
Absolute deliciousness!! A must go-to everytime we're in SD!! The sukiyaki is amazing!! With the egg and other yummy sauces for dipping it's the Best!! And sweet Kirby is awesome!! Perfect all the way around!!

Yelp
This is by far the best shabu in San Diego. My girlfriend and I love shabu and have tried pretty much every single place there is in the area that serves hot pot. This is the best meat and broth we've had. The ramen was fresh. The broth was excellent. The meats were delightful. Kirby served us and was very personable and gave us insight on what paired well with what we were eating. The ambiance is great and the setup made it easy to be served quickly and efficiently. If you're looking to try shabu for the first time, or have had it several times, this is the place for you. The price is comparable to every other shabu place in the area so it's a win-win.

Richard C.

Yelp
I can't get out of this place. I always have the salmon. when it's cooked correctly, it always taste buttery and very delicate. It's a great quality fish.
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
The shoyu broth was so delicious! I usually don't drink the broth when I get soup, but I finished almost all of it because it was so good. There was only one person serving the whole bar so I was surprised to see how well he was able to manage everything. We came in at a busy time so it took a bit for us to get seated and for our food to come. However, once the crowd cleared it was easier to get a hold of the server. The interior of this place is small compared to most restaurants, but I really enjoyed it here. They have good music and a beautiful cherry blossom tree painted on the wall.

Claudia M.

Yelp
Excellent evening at shabu shabu, good service of course. good ambiance. I highly recommend shabu shabu.
google avatar

Clarissa S.

Yelp
Good ambiance fresh vegetables and great ac considering it's hot pot. You can actually eat and enjoy on a hot day
google avatar

Lilian T.

Yelp
I applaud the owner a one man show but he was rushing the entire night to help out each table. Though he eventually made his rounds, I rather have a server who takes his time to give good service. The intensity was like the game "overcooked". But food is okay, I recommend the tum yum broth. Meat is cut really thick and my friend and I ordered the same meat rib eye but they looked entirely different cuts. His reason is it came from diff cows? Also we asked for more miso paste, and Kirby really did not like it and made a "disgusted" face when refilling our miso paste. So odd and made me feel unappetized.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
Service was great. The worker was very knowledgeable in helping a newbie like me. Meat was great especially the pork belly. I look forward to going again. Parking can be tight though

Laura B.

Yelp
Kirby was so helpful. The food was delicious and we enjoyed cooking our meal. Plenty of protein, vegetable, and broth choices.
google avatar

Linh N.

Yelp
The best shabu spot I've tried in San Diego! - Parking is tough, may have to park in a different plaza or street parking - Quality of meat is really good! - All soup bases and sauces made in house! - Vegetable and ramen portion just a bit small - Kirby holds down the fort well - Went on a Sunday around dinner time and there was no wait, but there are only a handful of seats around the bar so I would assume this place gets packed often
google avatar

Jackie T.

Yelp
Came here last night for the first time. I've been wanting to try this spot. Parking lot is kind of tough so try to come early or park on the street. Walked right in on a Friday night and got seated right away. There is only one person running the place, so please be patient. Even though he was only one person he did a good job. I like that it's an individual pot and that you can choose your meat size. The price of the meal is reasonable. If you have not had the chance to try this place please stop by you will not be disappointed. Thank you Shabu House for a yummy first time experience. I will definitely be back.

Jolene R.

Yelp
The soup was delicious the best soup ever. They have spicy and non spicy. The manager was very helpful and friendly. Good music for entertaining and a good location with desserts all around.
