Boston’s Best Shabu-Shabu Japanese Hot Pot Restaurants - Eater Boston

"Tucked inside the Westin Hotel, Shabumaru boasts a decent selection of Japanese sake and “saketinis,” a riff on the classic martini. Diners can pick from a variety of sushi, sashimi, and appetizers in addition to Japanese hot pot mainstays such as Miyazaki wagyu, Berkshire pork, and fish cakes, served in individual small pots. The lunch selection, which comes with broth, protein, vegetables, and noodles, offers a great value." - Valerie Li Stack

This is one-pot-per-person shabu venue. The lunch menu is reasonable priced considering its location in downtown. The meat/vegetable ratio is quite balanced. Place is clean and friendly. Don't mind coming back.

Don't waste your money and time at this place. There were literally only 3 tables of customers when we were there. We waited 20 minutes for our meat. RAW, UNCOOKED, READY TO SERVE, MEAT. We have to remind them once a few minutes that we are still waiting for our meat and it was set on the counter but nobody served us. Everything was extremely expensive. We ordered a seafood platter for $40 and they gave us fish cakes?

Love this Japanese hot pot place! Veggies were fresh and beef was delicious. Sushi was only ok. FYI - lunch is so much cheaper than dinner (food is the same but smaller portion)

I would say it's a great restaurant with great food. But, today it's really disappointing. We ordered lamb and it tastes wired, and it's still red when we put them in the hot pot for 15min or even 25minutes. Usually, it only takes 2 minutes for lamb. I think that's probably related with storage.

Rich broth! Don't need to spice it up at all. Fresh ingredients. Customer service is lacking, so that's why it lost a star. The elderly, female host was not very helpful and pressured us to get more stuff. The waitress was fine, but looked overworked and couldn't be as attentive. This was more expensive than comparable shabu restaurants in Chinatown. My friend and I only went here because there was no line. For the price point, we expected better service, but food was good.

This place it's fun, and good food. If you haven't done "hot pot," you order the soup, and your choice of meat or veg. They boil the soup and you put in things to cook. Their doing sauces were wonderful. I had miso (on the right) and mom had chicken. She ordered the veg and tofu meal and I had fish. It was pricey. The staff were so kind and helpful.

I really like the Japanese Shabu shabu here, though we missed the lunch meal with cheaper price, but still the quality here was good and worth the money.

I had a wonderful time eating at ShabuMaru. I enjoyed the black chicken, Japanese miso, house, and Mongolian broths, but my favorite was the black chicken. I got A9 prime beef and the pork from the menu. The best way to indicate how good it was is that I eat everything vegetables included. I am looking forward to eating there again.
