Shade Hotel Manhattan Beach

"The antithesis of its cool moniker, Shade is a sun-drenched sleepery in one of the habitual hot spots along the Southern California coast. Back in the days when The Beach Boys were still surfing the local waves, the corner of 13th and Valley in Manhattan Beach was occupied by a ceramic factory that churned out those cute little Disney figurines. Forty years later Mickey is gone, replaced by the hip Metlox pedestrian precinct and the best beach hotel to hit LA in more than a decade. Shade is refreshingly edgy but never over the top, an ambience that blends bygone beach scene and the daring West Coast design aesthetic. The 43 suites and rooms are both ultra-comfy (thanks to the goose-down duvets and Tempur-Pedic beds) and thoroughly distracting. New Age “toys” include flat-screen TV with jpeg and mp3 capability, iPod docking station, two-person hydrotherapy bathtub, state-of-the-art margarita blender, and tubular fireplace for those chilly winter nights beside the beach. The lobby and adjacent Zinc lounge offer a modern take on traditional maritime décor – hardwood floors, porthole lighting, blue-green “seafoam” fabrics, and chandeliers fashioned from sea urchin shells. There is no restaurant per se, but the Shade kitchen turns out a long list of tasty tapas (like brie and artichoke fondue, ahi tuna tartare with wasabe cream cones, and marinated lamb chops) that can be munched at Zinc, on the adjacent outside terrace or in your room. Guests can also order room service from The Kettle, a legendary MB eatery with a menu as long as the nearby pier. In-room spa treatments (like the Ginger Body Butter Escape) are also on tap. Segways and cruiser-style bikes are available for beach area exploration. Or you can slink up to the rooftop Skydeck, where a petite pool affords views that run all the way from Catalina Island to the Malibu mountains."

The hotel has an awesome staff and amenities. The location could not be better. Excellent Restaurant as well. Rooms are perfectly fine. The staff is top-notch in every way. My only complaint is that the HVAC system is programmed to a maximum low of 72° starting at 2:30 AM. I like to sleep cooler than that but you don’t get that choice. A fan was provided at least which was very helpful.

Google
From the moment we arrived, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The staff were professional, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Ivan, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect-his warm demeanor and attention to detail made all the difference. The facilities were top-notch, from the luxurious spa to the immaculate rooms. Easily a 5-star experience all around!

Evelyn Isais

Google
This place? Total luxury vibes! From the moment we walked in, it felt like we stepped into a dream. The rooms? Immaculate. The spa? Heavenly. The cocktails by the pool? Dangerous (in the best way). But the real MVP? Ivan. Seriously, this guy made our stay unforgettable-always smiling, always helpful, and somehow everywhere at once. If this hotel were a person, it'd be Ivan: 100% charm, 5-star energy!

Blasa Cardenas

Google
If you want to treat yourself, this is the spot. Close to the beach, super stylish, and quiet enough to actually relax. Staff was super nice too - Ivan helped with my bags and was just really chill. Felt like a little slice of luxury without the snob vibes.

The upgrades look great guys! Such a special place for our family, married in 2017 and coming back never gets old.|The food, the location, and everything about this place is well done. Shout out to Gustavo and the gang as well. |We’ll be back!|-Dr Moore

Google
We were looking for a place to stay, for a couple of nights, in Manhattan Beach. Shade Hotel was wonderful! The rooms are set up so thoughtfully with little details that make a difference. The location was perfect for the beach, shopping and great restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Michelle Boehle

Google
My husband and I live locally in LA and came to stay with my two boys for the 6man tournament festivities. It’s been years since I have been at this hotel and the upgrades are fabulous. My kids both took a bath in the tub that fills from the ceiling, and it is impossible to get them to take baths at home. We enjoyed some jacuzzi time on the rooftop with yummy bites and cocktails for the adults. The rooms were spotless, the tv was actually a smart tv, (you get an A+ from my husband for that) the bed was cozy and the pull out was ready for my boys. Everything is walking distance…the beach, bikes, breakfast, shopping. We had a wonderful staycation. Thanks Shade!

Oscar was an absolute gem! We had a wonderful experience with he and the entire staff. Oscar was instrumental in securing our dinner reservations and ensuring our accommodations were well appointed. Thank you Oscar for a wonderful stay! Meg, Tye, and Ryan

Yelp
Amazing $12 Happy hour Food menu- tasty desserts such as bread pudding and peach cobbler. Great friendly service-with Loretta. Lastly great beer! Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Great happy hour and very good service from Cynthia who was right on it. Big bday night for my wife with all her pals before NY tomorrow. Good pours and the Shade patio rocks. Best dish is crunchy rice with spicy tuna. Look out after happy hour because prices become MB prices. But in the end all good and all left happy!

Yelp
I stayed here for the first time for 3 nights and 4 days. When I entered the room, I liked the spacious floor plan and the large hot tab. During my stay, the weather cold and the room temperature was set at 70°f, but it was cold room. I started pouring hot water into the hot tub but it took me over 30 minutes. After that, when I pressed the Jacuzzi switch, only one of the six worked and had no massage effect at all. The next day, when I asked about the hot tab at the reception desk on the first floor, they said it was just a hot tab because your room had not been updated yet. I was disappointed when I heard that. During my stay, I couldn't sleep because it was cold, so I switched the temperature to a heater and raised it to 75, but it didn't work at all at night. I caught a cold by the time I left the hotel.

George V.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a few years on Thanksgiving. They have a lovely setup and a very caring staff, smiles included. Shade, you earned all of those five stars. Bravo!

Yelp
We are obsessed with the bar at the Shade (as a local) and have never stayed at the hotel itself. Matty, a premier bartender, makes the best martinis out there. 12/10 recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Consider this a 4 1/2 stars. Minus 1/2 star for expensive parking and no view. Not cheap but the newly renovated rooms are great. Nice LED color lighting though the interface is fussy and we had to have the facilities person come fix the flashing lights. Comfortable bed (first time sleeping on a Temur-Pedic mattress which was very comfortable.) Best feature here is the great big bathtub in a bathroom separated by sliding doors that can open up fully to create a really big room. Nice and clean for a quick getaway though a bit pricey.

Yelp
I have wanted to stay here for years. When I lived in MB, I had stopped by for Brunch and cocktails, but had never stayed. So this visit, it was time to give Shade a try. Why? It's the best central location in downtown Manhattan Beach. You can walk to everything (restaurants, boutiques, beach, etc.) and there is no need for a car. Pulled up and valet was quick to greet us. Stepped inside and the front desk was friendly and offered glasses of sparkling wine. Room was clean and had all needed amenities. Large tub in the center of the room. Patio with chairs. Refrigerator with drinks (non-alcohol and alcohol). Iron, Hair Dryer, Hair Curler. Snacks. Kuerig machine for your coffee. Bottled water by the bed. Complimentary bottle of wine. My only issue with the room was it is outdated. I think they are starting to refurbish given the construction on the rooftop pool/bar. The dark wood/dark granite counters don't match the breezy beach style of MB. Grabbed breakfast both mornings at the restaurant in the lobby, zinc@shade; was provided $20/day vouchers. They serve bites/cocktails in the evening, but did close up early. I was visiting during the week, so maybe it's different on the weekends. Overall, service is 5 stars, but they need to refurbish the rooms for a 5 star overall experience.

Yelp
Their French toast was delicious and our waiter was awesome too. The ambiance was amazing! The only disappointment was that the "hot pastrami" was ready; but that just means I have to go back.

Yelp
October 2024 at Shade for a decadal birthday party of 49 guests. Utilized the Terrace and part of the Zinc bar. Full service dinner and drinks. Event manager and planner Alisha Johnson. Lovely space, good food and drinks, and terrific ambience. The planning process with Alisha was thorough, and clearly we were working with a thoughtful, seasoned pro. The night of the party she came up with some nice value-added touches, and during the party she was highly attentive to details. I wanted to go big for this, and my wife and I felt like we hit it out of the park with Alisha and Shade.

Andrea R.

Yelp
Huge disappointment! Overpriced. Many unexpected additional charges. Not very deluxe rooms.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
We attended an afternoon event for a friend here and quite enjoyed it. We sat at the outdoor patio area which had a beautiful succulent wall focal point. The Mediterranean style buffet was light and tasty and the servers were attentive about clearing the tables. The area was set up in a way so it didn't feel cramped even with around 55+ people. No ocean view at this location. Valet parking was available but pricey so we opted for the nearby public parking lot.

Molly B.

Yelp
I recently had a work event at the Shade Hotel. It was great. We booked the Skydeck for a evening happy hour. I worked with Alisha, Mimi and Emma who were all great to work with! It was my first time planning something like this and they were super patient with me, answering all my questions and working within my budget. I would definitely use them again.

Yelp
We are back! And great news the food was on par at this restaurant speaking from the brunch point of view. Everything was delicious from the chicken Caesar to the croissant breakfast sandwich. The pool is really a small spa on the roof if you care about that. I love the free use of bikes.. it makes for a great bike ride down the beach. Front desk was on the phone mainly when we checked in except the lovely girl who helped us with the bikes the next day. We enjoyed the room but had a hard time figuring out the buttons and all until we were about to leave. Overall a nice staycation. We didn't get the $50 California credit because we booked through a 3rd party. This was told differently when we checked in so wish they would've honored that.
google avatar

Melanie B.

Yelp
Had a great stay-cation away from home and away from loud neighborhood fireworks! Check in was smooth and easy I left my glasses at the front desk and the hotel attendant met us upstairs right before I hit my room with my Gucci shades I was happy about that! Clean room bathtub was amazing the view out the room was nice no balcony! The reason for the three stars: the pool was small and it was dirty it was a large jacuzzi pool turn the jets on and it was algae and hair around the edges of the pool I immediately got out and use the poolside shower it was rooftop no view just say we tried to make the most of it ending this review watch for secret hotel fees but order the BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp Omg YUMMM I will only go to the bar area to order the shrimp lol

Yelp
great location, service, food, and entertainment. romantic ambiance. reasonably priced. the manager "nick" is the best!! he has created a well trained staff that are all ready to go above and beyond to please. it's not too crowded as i think that many people don't expect a hotel to have such good food and talented entertainment. you can sit in or out and hear beautiful live music with dinner. fun "people watching". amy may performed last night and was amazing! it's a close walk to the beach or for shopping for the basics as well as eclectic stuff. bottom line - the overall experience.... you feel like you're  surrounded by beautiful, happy people and are being treated like royalty.

Yelp
This spot is luxurious, while also being super chill. The employees are super sweet and welcoming, and the location is unbeatable. It was the coolest room I've ever stayed in! And an excellent restaurant (Zinc) on the first floor. Sweet spot for brunch!

Yelp
Shade Manhattan Beach is a wonderful hotel and venue for any event, especially weddings. Their team goes above and beyond to ensure everything goes as planned. From the start we were given lots of information and suggestions from the team so we knew what to expect during the planning process. As our wedding got closer, Alisha was extremely helpful and responsive to all our questions - whether a simple email or longer phone call. She helped us figure out all the details and timeline for the day which was super relieving! As with any event, there are a lot of details and extras that come up and the Shade team is very transparent and open to working with their clients and their budgets. The best part is that their food is AMAZING - we received so many compliments from guests that we had the best food of any wedding they've been to! We are so happy we chose Shade as the setting for our wedding, and looking forward to coming back to visit again Bonus - Shade is a pet-friendly venue so our dog was able to be a part of our wedding day.

Carlo T.

Yelp
Great place and great location. But the people make it better. Special call out to the team especially Matty and Victor. As a semi regular return visitor, Matty always makes you feel like you are an old friend returning. He remembers your name, preferred drink and what you do and why you are visiting. A complete professional and such great energy, Thanks.

Nicole A.

Yelp
We had our wedding at Shade in May and cannot recommend it enough. The staff was amazing and they made all of the planning process so easy. My guests loved the location and the food!

Yelp
Oh man, this place is wonderful! We stayed in the Napa Suite and it was so luxurious! The bed was so comfortable, the steam room / shower was so relaxing, and the heated toilet seat was such a nice touch! ;) It has a huge bathroom with a separate, gorgeous tub, lots of great lighting for doing makeup, and an epic television in the living room! So many lovely details. The entire staff is SO sweet made us feel so welcome and taken care of. It's overall such a chill, happy, calm, fun atmosphere! We got to have the brunch and a dinner there and both were delicious, with great service! Can't wait to come back! The perfect place to enjoy the heart of beautiful Manhattan Beach!

Devon B.

Yelp
Best bar tender in town is...... Matty! Always happy. Always makes you feel part of the family.

Yelp
Love the shade Manhattan Beach is off the hook Redondo Beach is off the hook. Meaning, a lot of fun rate ambience food is amazing. Service is impeccable one of my favorite places.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Matty is the best bartender in all of Southern California. He is very attentive and the food here is amazing. Beyond the food (amazing Crispy rice and lamb chops), he was extremely attentive during very busy times.

Shereen A.

Yelp
I highly recommend Shade hotel, Manhattan Beach. It was truly a great experience. We stayed there for an extended weekend. The hotel is very clean. The staff is very friendly. The food is absolutely delicious and overall a great experience. Under the management of Rodolfo; what an an excellent manager he kept us very very happy comfortable catered to us and he always provided a personal touch to all the guests, he's on top of everything, making sure everybody is happy. We will be back for sure!

Yelp
I used to drive by this contemporary boutique hotel every day on my way to work when I lived down the road in Redondo Beach... Never once occurred to me I might stay there someday. Then I moved away and had to take a trip back to the area for some work. I wanted to stay somewhere close to El Segundo, as that's where I had some work to do, and close to Redondo Beach, our former home. Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach was perfectly located for that! They're right in the heart of town, just a short walk from the pier and the beach. Only ended up having to go to the office in El Segundo once, which is great because it meant more time here! I've stayed in dozens of hotels, good ones and... um... not-so-good ones... Shade was MORE than just one of the good ones. Few hotels I've stayed in come close to matching the hospitality we experienced here. The service was above-and-beyond friendly. FREE bike rentals for guests. Credits to get food or drinks at the excellent restaurant and bar. Very nice rooms with a big hot tub that has chromatherapy lighting. Pseudoscience or not, it's just cool. Definitely enjoyed our time here, happy to have chosen it, and would not hesitate to return.

Yelp
A small boutique hotel nestled in downtown manhatten beach that offers extraordinary customer service. There are so many great things about this place, where do I start? Location: *a block away from the pier *heart of downtown *Right next to shops, bars, and restaurants, parks, grocery store Amenities: *tempur-pedic bed and tempur-pedic pillows *sauna with dual rain shower heads *Bed desk for doing business while relaxing in bed Random cool points: *They're part of the kettle restaurant so you can get room service at any time from the kettle restaurant *They offer valet and will handle your luggage *The bar is always popping *The hotel is eco-friendly (I love and appreciate their mindfulness of plastic consumption) We will definitely be back ;)
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
I don't know. I want to love this hotel but I'm unimpressed this far. The location is awesome. Right in the heart of Manhattan beach boutique shops and a block from the ocean. If you want to be in the middle of everything, you will feel like you are. The room looked good (a bit worn but rumor has it they will be undergoing updates to all rooms soon). There is a huge jetted tub in the bathroom but two of the jets weren't working. I called for room service off of the "all day room service" menu only to be told that they were closed and could not accommodate food requests, only drink requests. I was told that the kitchen had closed because it was slow. I wish I would have known that all day didn't actually mean all day - I might have grabbed food outside of the hotel before turning in for the night. The majority of the staff are friendly and want to accommodate your needs so props for that. For the amount of money this room costs I would expect a better quality of service and amenities. I will likely look elsewhere when looking for hotels in this area in the future.
google avatar

Cathy G.

Yelp
So I checked on my review history here and wouldn't you know it? It's been about 11 years since I was here last! Crystal at the front desk was warm and welcoming. She offered my SO and I champagne and cookies at check-in, of course I said yes. I would have said "hell yes" if she let me walk to my room with the whole bottle. Don't judge me it was a Saturday. The lounge/ bar/ restaurant area was pretty busy. Nice weather, good company, who can blame them? We got to our room and it was just like I remembered it. Tempur-pedicure bed, tub, silence, and blackout curtains so you couldn't tell what year it was if you woke up in a cold sweat. Fun things like that. Got a chance to walk around the neighborhood, grab a late lunch at Nick's across the way, and check out the pier. We wound up getting some delicious pizza at Zinc and some strong night caps for the walk back to the room. It was a relaxing visit. I will say that the place does need some decor updates and fixes from the wear and tear over the years (sliding doors that wouldn't close, torn blackout curtains, etc.) I overheard a conversation at the bar that the hotel planned on some renovations in the near future. I hope that's true especially with the price point. So whoever is reading this at Shade, let us know when those updates are done so we can come back!

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay but I had no clue I was going to pay over a thousand dollars for two nights deposit was $350 but valet 45 a night the surprise charge which is higher the Vegas resort fees 91 dollars a night please read your receipt people

Yelp
Gustavo at Shade hotel always take good care of me. Great guy makes a killer espresso martini!!

Kendra O.

Yelp
As a local, I was looking forward to a relaxing overnight and much needed rest at Shade Hotel MB for Mother's Day weekend. Check-in was nice with champagne and a cookie, but the location of my room was not ideal - the first floor and a few doors down from Zinc bar. Between the construction and the loud bar noise echoing until 10 pm it was anything but relaxing!!! The pool was not heated and there were only 4 lounge chairs, not nearly enough to accommodate the number of guests. The rooms are outdated with carpet around the spa whirlpool tub. I should have booked at Shade Hotel Redondo instead. Pretty disappointed in the price of my stay vs. my experience.

Yelp
On our recent trip to Manhattan Beach we thought we'd change things up and stay at a hotel vs. our normal Airbnb preference. After reviewing the options we decide that Shade Hotel would meet our needs. It was on the higher price point I'd options, but it was a special occasion so why not? We were greeting by the amazing staff upon our arrival. The staff during our entire four nights was awesome. They were very friendly and attentive, which is hard to come by. We were told that we will be staying in one of the newly renovated rooms (the rest of the hotel would be renovated over the winter months), which was beautifully decorated and modern. The only complaint about the design of the room would be the light switches. They are an LED touch switch, which looks cool, but is not practical. Sometimes they work and other times they didn't. The annoying part is that you have nightlights all over the room while you are trying to sleep. This switch also controls the curtains, which did not work. The wonderful women who was assigned to our room was kind enough to come and close them for us. I will say the blackout curtains were appreciated as other places we stayed didn't offer this and it doesn't get bright early. You need to be careful not to put anything on the floor of the shower area as water goes everywhere when you are showering, even with the curtain fully closed. We loved the inside of our room was nice, but the location not too ideal. We were in the service hallway which was used for storage of tables, heat lamps and kegs of beer. It was also across from the courtyard which had an event during our stay, which was loud and also awkward coming out of our room and having to walk by everyone to leave the hotel. The restaurant/bar is also very close by which made it hard to go to sleep at night. One thing that is in the fine print and important to be aware of is the amenities fee that is not optional. This was $20 USD per day per person; so for us this was $40 USD each day. With that they do offer a $10 per day per person voucher to use at the hotel restaurant, but a max of two vouchers is allowed per day. This fee wouldn't be a problem if the hotel offered great amenities, but our idea of amenities is very different than theirs. They have a rooftop patio with lounge chairs, towel, string lights, and a pool. However the "pool" is extremely small and is truly a Jacuzzi with jets. This area also closes at sunset so isn't available in the evening once the sun goes down. Also included in the amenities is the use of their bikes. This is a nice to have, but for us wasn't something we used as we were traveling by car to further destination. There is a gym included in the fee, but that is off-site and a ten minute drive, which is not convenient for the time we had. I'm addition to the amenities fee, the parking, which is valet only was $35 per day. The valet drivers were wonderful, but an option to park on our own would have been nice to save a few dollars. Overall the hotel is nice, staff very friendly, and the food was delicious and well priced. However, we did pay $775 (Canadian) per night and didn't feel it was worth that price point.

Andres M.

Yelp
Gustavo and Matty are the best and most attentive bartenders. They make the best espresso martinis in town! Love this place, excellent vibe and great happy hour deals with drinks and food. There is really no other place like this in downtown Manhattan beach. 100% recommended.

Yelp
Love this secret little spot- mostly everything you need is walking distance. We went on the weekend and they had live music the whole time.

Yelp
Awesome food with great service. Cintia was an amazing waitress! Happy hour was fun, and the music set the ambience :).

Yelp
We had a lovely, long weekend in Manhattan Beach with family. Everyone went above and beyond to meet our needs. The highlight of our stay was Ron. We all so happy to see him throughout our day and stay. Always with a welcoming smile. Thank you, Ron.

Yelp
The Manhattan location of Shade is retro, stuck in the 90s with it's mahogany decor, faded carpets and dark interior design. If you're lucky the get a ground floor room you might encounter the sweet sounds of restaurant and kitchen clattering. The hotel is centrally located near the pier and many local restaurants. The bed was firm and comfortable, the ac worked too well, and the bathrooms were more like a 2.5-3 star hotel. We were surprised at how busy the hotel was, we couldn't check in until check-in time, 3. I've usually found it quite easy at other hotels to get an earlier check-in.

Yelp
Came here for a little staycation, and had kind of an interesting experience. It was okay overall, but my boyfriend and I thought it was ultimately overpriced and didn't live up to the "4 star" hotel experience Google claimed it would be. The good things: The front desk staff was very friendly, and helpful during our stay. Parking was easy. The drinks at the restaurant were tasty! The restaurant vouchers ($10/person) are a nice touch! Some weird things: We were there on a Monday during "Shade hour". We scanned the menu QR code and assumed that was the correct menu to order from, and there was even a big chalkboard outside the restaurant patio advertising happy hour. Then we got our bill at full price, which they said was because of it being the Memorial Day holiday. That would be fine if they had said that anywhere on the menu or didn't have a giant chalkboard advertising happy hour, but no one told us it didn't apply on holidays. They ended up adjusting the bill when we asked about it, but we felt weird about it. Our waiter was also really inattentive (disappeared for like 15 minutes after bringing our bill, then someone else took our credit card, and he came back with a new copy of the bill - not the receipt after running our card! It was like he forgot he had already brought the check. Very strange.) Their website said something about complimentary sparkling wine, which we definitely didn't get. Maybe we booked the wrong room for that, but it was unclear. I saw other people walking around with glasses of wine, so it definitely existed for some people... not a huge deal since they also give you restaurant vouchers. No shampoo, conditioner, or body wash in the room, had to go down and ask for it. They did bring it up quickly though! No top sheet on the bed! Idk if that's their style or something and I'm too basic to understand, but we thought it was weird. The room was pretty clean, but there were some broken tiles in the bathroom. Not sharp, but cracked through and could be hazardous if they came loose.

Yelp
I'm risking it all by writing this review. I want to keep this hotel all to myself. The rooms = impressive+amazing. The hotel and staff = A++. A perfect place to celebrate anniversaries or whatever. Love the proximity to the beach. and the surrounding shops, restaurants and entertainment make this hotel a top-spot. See ya soon Shade!
google avatar

Diana T.

Yelp
First let me start by saying I am not reviewing the hotel itself but the restaurant that is part of the hotel. We went there for breakfast and found that the food was less than tasty. Presentation was excellent but over all taste was not good. The potatoes were somewhat cold and hard as if they had been sitting out for a while. The Huevos Rancheros were also cold once again as if they had been cooked and left sitting for a while before they were served and the taste not so good. The pancakes were warmer but a litlle rubbery. Needless to say I did not enjoy my breakfast there very much. Its really a shame because this restaurant came highly recommended by my daughter who frequented this place often prior to covid.

I went at the perfect time... (early in the evening), right before sunset...and not as many customers. Therefore the experience was good...the service, the food and the ambience. The White Clam Pizza was the best...with a hint of squeezed lemon and a side salad ( Red and Golden Beet Salad). I like the thin crust since it's firm to hold the delicious ingredients, and crunch like-a-cracker satisfies the taste buds, but, not filling like a thick crust pizza. Thank you to the server and chef at Sea Level.

Yelp
We will definitely be staying here again!!! There are so many complimentary amenities that Shade offers their guests, it was almost silly to ever leave the hotel! Buuuut, it is Manhattan beach... Want to go on a bike ride? They'll lend you one! Want to borrow some low chairs and towels to take to the beach? Not a problem! Want a delicious cake pop before bed? You got it! Want a fun courtyard to hang out in that's safe, kid friendly, and well lit? Just step outside your door! Enjoy happy hour prices in the lounge from 3-6pm. Friday and Saturday nights there's a DJ playing in the lounge from 9pm-midnight. Brandon was amazingly hospitable! He brought our drinks to the rooftop, and turned on the bistro lights and music, even though the rooftop lounge wasn't technically open that night! You're awesome! Peter was great at the main door/front desk area. He always greeted us with a warm smile and even chatted with my 7-year-old, which is hard to do. There is a meditation and a Yoga class offered on Saturday mornings on the rooftop, and then Jason taught an awesome core workout class on Sunday morning. Who doesn't like free classes?! As for the hotel rooms themselves, they are very contemporary, provide ultra cool lighting, sliding doors, cozy robes in the closet, fully stocked mini bar, a mini fridge, a safe, a large bathroom counter space, recycling bin next to the trash bin, great water pressure in the shower, enormous tub, etc. It is $30 a day to park your car in their garage, which is not a bad deal for the LA area, especially being just a few blocks from the beach. Note: if you are not in good shape, the walk to the beach could be difficult! Although it is technically close (according to a flat map) it is up a huge hill coming from the strand. This could pose to be problematic for anyone who is physically injured or disabled in anyway. Just s heads up.
