After the City Shut it Down, Corona Plaza’s Food Vendors Have Returned | Eater NY

"I read that Kozel’s, a steakhouse that was the lifeblood of Ghent, New York, and also functioned as a local community space, has closed this month after 87 years in business, according to a Times Union eulogy." - Emma Orlow

We had the most wonderful brunch today at Shadow 66! A few years back, we used to visit their downtown Hudson location, and this new spot is even more impressive. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and full of charm — decorated with antique pieces and even two vintage Citroën cars that give the place so much character. The food was absolutely incredible. We tried the Souvenir and the 66 Burger, both packed with flavor and beautifully prepared. For dessert, the caramelized apple crêpe was simply perfection — the best way to end our meal. The combination of delicious food, unique décor, and welcoming vibe makes Shadow 66 a true gem. Can’t wait to come back again soon!

The garage and Citroen themed restaurant was memorable — the food and service outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed everything but the mushroom soup, salad (and dressing), and onglet steak are courses I would go out of my way to have again. We will return next time we are in the Hudson area.

Deeply satisfying French bistro food. Classics done well, in a classy but casual setting, and fairly priced. I don't think I've ever had a better rendition of what was essentially a variation on skate meunière. Certainly not one better plated. There are of course fancier places serving more luxurious food with more impressive wine lists, but this place gets five stars from me on the basis of what it is and what I think it's trying to be. Two minor nitpicks are that the bread is not at a level worth charging for (as they do), and at least one of the servers could be a little less casual and a lot more attentive. Trying to get a server's attention when they're just standing idly at the bar with their back to the room is one of the most frustrating things. But I realize it can be tough to find experienced servers in less populated areas. The bread though - seems like it might be baked in house, which is laudable, but I'd take higher quality bread from an excellent outside bakery over mediocre in house bread. The motor touring memorabilia is endearing. Some may misinterpret the Michelin Man appearances as a cheap attempt at drawing critical attention without understanding the restaurant guide's roots in motor touring, but I suppose the crowd will mostly self-select towards sophistication. The place is, as they say, "worth a detour."

I revisited Shadow66 last night after a less than perfect evening a year ago. I am soooo glad I did! Speaking as a chef myself, I was completely satisfied with all qualities of this wonderful restaurant. The bartender (the owner’s son) was so warm and welcoming to me, a lone diner! The chef (and owner with wife Astrid) brought me the best steak frites I have ever had this side of the Atlantic. I can’t wait to take friends and family there to enjoy a delicious meal in a unique and creative space with excellent service!

First time here this Valetine’s day! The food and the service was phenomenal. The decor of the restraurant is so cool and unique. The vintage car vibes were awesome and we love hot rods of course! The food plating and portions were perfect. We had cocktails, shared an appetizer, ordered two meals and had dessert. Everything was delicious and presented so beautifully on the plate with fresh herbs. Thank you so much for a delicious meal and lovely experience. We love French cuisine and hope to be back soon!

Google
Charming retro atmosphere and good food. But the service really set it apart. Nick our server was witty and fun, the hostess and food runner were also very warm and cheery. We had a great time and will recommend it to others for sure!

Google
The food was fresh and delicious. We dined in and had take out on 2 separate occasions. Both experiences were marvelous. My favorite dishes were the moist and flavorful Duck Leg Confit and the Salmon Tartare. I gave 4 stars because the cocktails were terrible. Even the people next to us complained.

Google
What a find! We could not have enjoyed a meal more: the owners and staff are so welcoming, enthusiastic and deservedly proud of their restaurant. Everything we ordered was perfect: beef tartare, crab/salmon pillow and a couscous dish, as well as a perfect île flottante. The setting is spectacular: pictures to follow!

Yelp
Very cool spot for an amazing brunch! We sat on the back patio. Our server was super sweet, food delicious! Tasty burger and an awesome classic croque madame. I wish 66 was closer but we will be back!

Yelp
We had a truly wonderful meal. The place was booked solid over the holiday weekend so we snagged a table at 4 which was the tail end of their brunch lunch service. The place is known for its collection of antique cars both inside and out. It has a fun feeling and service if first rate. There were still plenty of solid options from eggs benny to salad, sandwiches, soups and entrees. At this time of year the garden area is open and quite lovely. We started with French onion soup, the soup de jour- mushroom, and mussels in a saffron cream sauce which came with fries. All three were beautifully prepared and excellent. Then we moved on to the house burger which our son said ranked in the pantheon of truly excellent burgers. He went for the cheese, bacon and lettuce, tomato....we all took bites. Yum. The fries that accompanied it were cooked to perfection. A little crisper and better than the first batch that cane with the moules. Pan-Bagnat- imagine salad nicoise sandwich but ooooo so much better. It was on focaccia with a generous portion of tuna - house mayonnaise - black olives and fresh tomatoes. Oh my. Last dish was the grilled king salmon in a citrus glaze served with mash potatoes and byaldi - Thomas Kellers gorgeous stacked ratatouille. This whole composition was a work of art and perfectly cooked. An extra side of ratatouille completed the meal. No room for dessert. But next time we will leave room for profiteroles. We will be back!

Yelp
We've always loved Shadow 66 and had plenty of great meals there, but our last visit was definitely out of the ordinary. It turned into a 2 1/2-hour ordeal because our server kept disappearing--we'd see them maybe once every 30 minutes. Most of the night we had no drinks at all, even after our entrées arrived, so we ended up eating most of dinner without wine or water. Couples who came in when we did finished and left an hour before us. We didn't see the server at all during the last hour, and eventually the owner brought us the check. We had invited another couple and spent the evening apologizing, assuring them this wasn't typical. Honestly, it was pretty embarrassing.

Yelp
I swear I've driven past this place for two years and thought are they really open for business. I never see any cars in the parking lot an then one day, it's packed. So of course, we had to try it. Walking in is like stepping into a gearhead's fever dream: walls festooned with Michelin and Citroën memorabilia, 2 big vintage cars in stale, polished hubcaps gleaming in the light. It's like someone fused a French auto museum with a café. Voilà! The weather was beautiful, so we claimed a spot on the back patio which was bustling--it felt like the restaurant's secret happy place. We started with escargot (simple and quite delicious) and then split the peppercorn hanger steak. Now, full disclosure: some bites verged on "rare" for my taste, but most were beautifully cooked--juicy, peppery, and satisfying. Generous for a shared plate. I sipped on a Bloody Mary (spicy, tangy, slightly rebellious) while my friend sampled two glasses of the house Pinot Grigio, which he pronounced "very good" Ambiance? Delightful. Quirky, charming, with car nerd touches that made me smile. Food? Solid, with a few "edge‑of‑rare" moments but overall commendable. Price? Definitely on the steeper side--be prepared for it. Would I go back? Oh, absolutely. But next time, I'll ask for "medium :-)

Yelp
The best restaurant in the Hudson area. Great food , amazing desserts friendly staff , great place for cocktails . Fantastic vibe and ambience .

Yelp
My second (and last) time here. The first visit was bad, but a friend likes the place, so I decided to give it another chance. Where to begin? The staff, unfortunately, seem to be under the tight control of the extremely unfriendly owner and her son. Everyone feels so inexperienced, like they were trained at a Howard Johnson's in rural Arkansas. The food--oy. Sauces smother everything, and both the filet and skirt steak were tough and chewy. Don't even think about asking for a substitution (say, swapping out a veggie or potato). If you do, be prepared for a long-winded lecture instead of a simple "yes" or "no." The drinks? Lord. Every pour is micromanaged to within an inch of its life. Classic cocktails aren't in their repertoire, and when they try, it's painful to watch--and worse to drink. As for the space: the nearly windowless dining room is apparently meant as a tribute to the Citroën, one of the most beautifully designed cars ever. Instead, the result is a garage-like setting, with board-and-batten walls, concrete floors, two actual cars in the room, and a scattering of Citroën memorabilia.

Yelp
Wonderful service, delicious food, all so fresh! amazing desserts and great way to celebrate my daughter's birthday and my son in law's retirement!

Yelp
We went for brunch. They have a very nice patio area in the back and the ambiance was excellent. I loved the "Souvenir": poached eggs, ratatouille, potato cakes with goat cheese, and homemade mole sauce. The servers were friendly. Check out https://www.instagram.com/p/DLdjJfCtX9M/ for a photo of the souvenir.

Yelp
On a 95 degree day, my friend and I wandered in for brunch. No air conditioning. No thank you. Will have to try another time.

Yelp
First time dining here and we loved it. My husband had the escargot and the special of Dijon crusted lamb chops. I had the vichyssoise and couscous royale, all superb and beautifully prepared and presented. The cocktails and service were lovely. I found the decor bordering on a theme restaurant that didn't equal the food and service. Would definitely recommend for a special event.

Yelp
Four of us had a terrific dinner on a cold winter evening. Everything was truly first rate. Wonderful service, charming ambiance, and excellent food. The gem salad, french onion soup, salmon and blanquette de veau were all spot on. This place is the real deal...

Hayley K.

Yelp
The food gets 5 stars. The decor is amazing, the owner is a sweetheart. They are in opening stages which is understandable for some delays and some longer waits. The young lady who is a server is such a sweetheart and continued to check on us and make sure everything was good. She really is a gem. Unfortunately the food cannot make up for the service we received. The service was absolutely awful. The male server was extremely arrogant and disrespectful. Any question we had was promptly dismissed or seemed as if we were an inconvenience. He constantly needed to get the last word, make snarky remarks and had an attitude of "I'm better than you". Interactions with him were generally uncomfortable and disappointing. As someone who works in the industry and has for 10 years, I have never left a meal in such shock of the treatment we received.

Yelp
Good food but service was poor and waited over 1 hour for appetizers to arrive. Wont be back

Yelp
A great addition to the Hudson valley. Everything we ordered was delicious-salad, duck, braised beef in red wine, La coquilette. And the desserts were heavenly-we had the crème brûlée and the ile flottante. Yum yum. Cool decor too! Service was very attentive.

Yelp
Recently, my wife and I had dinner at a new restaurant - Shadow 66 - located in Ghent, NY. We have only written positive reviews previously, but, we had a negative experience to convey. We are NOT recommending to avoid this restaurant. Instead, we (as former restaurant professionals) are making a point that our situation could have been handled more professionally which we hope is taken to heart by the owners. We each began our meal with an appetizer (mussels and crab) - both of which were very tasty. For the main course, my wife ordered salmon and I ordered a steak. When we placed our respective orders, we asked the waiter if each of these dishes could be made rare. He assured us with an "of course." When our meals arrived, my steak was medium rare to medium. I decided to eat it as is. My wife's salmon was decidedly overcooked. We politely told the waiter that we wanted to replace it with a rare piece. He said that he told us that the salmon could not be cooked to order. That was untrue: he clearly stated that it could be rare. My wife did not want to order anything else so she did not eat a main course. The chef's wife (both owners of the restaurant) then came over and berated us for complaining. She said that, in their 30 years in business, they have never received ANY negative feedback which is not believable. She also said they work hard for their money and do not deserve this kind of "treatment." We replied that we also work hard and deserve our food to be prepared as promised. She walked away in a huff. My wife and I have never encountered anything like this in our 40+ years of dining out. Being an owner does not excuse this inappropriate behavior; rather, it compounds it..

Yelp
Shadow 66 is located in the space formerly occupied by The Red Barn, which was a French bistro that has been closed for many years. The new restaurant is a total reinvention of the space---but not necessarily for the better. The restaurant has an homage theme to Michelin (including the Michelin man on the menu cover) with various antique memorabilia. This also includes the placement of 2 Citroen cars directly in the middle of the main dining room. Consequently, diners are relegated to the perimeters of the room to accommodate the cars. The food is French and reasonably well prepared and tasty, albeit the menu is rather limited and traditional (not innovative cooking here). One of the servers the evening our party attended had a bit of French condescending attitude which got the night off to an uneven start that fortunately was salvaged by the reasonably decent meal that followed. However, one can't get over the dark and not especially pleasant atmosphere of the place, and it seems the prioritization in planning the space was more on being a Michelin trivia site than about being a restaurant. They are still in their opening stages, and there will be another pleasant lounge room and outdoor seating deck which should be helpful and perhaps set a better over tone to the venue.. Evidently local weekend Columbia County celeb Al Roker dined here and proclaimed it to be the best restaurant in the area--in his opinion. It is not the case. Wishing them luck here and hope they can succeed as clearly a lot of work and love was put into this unique, kitschy space. I would give them another try in another month or two, and hope the atmosphere improves and the menu expands some more as the chef is decent.

Yelp
It all starts when you call to make a reservation and the is a friendly Frenchman who is on the recording who recommends that you put your request in and he will return your call.... Sure enough the did (same voice) and charmingly invited us to what seemed to be his home as a vibe!!! Loved the country side utility chic south of France meets the hudson valley with a big surprise of a collection of lit antique cars that were an exquisite backdrop! The menu was edited to a great array of Choices... the skate special was delicious and was bathed in a dreamy sauce that was a great contrast to the delicate fish. The family who runs the kitchen, front of house, and even looks after the tables adds a human sophistication and taste to the region that would not be the same without them! I did not want to underestimate that the bar was a hidden gem of incredibly done drinks that we requested and off menu medley called a "paper plane" and they gracefully accommodated! Now comes the punch.... They causally recommended the espresso martini at the close... we open mindedly said "yes" and found ourselves ordering 4 more and noting it might have been the best one chilled perfectly with a foam topping that would have been a desert in and of itself but actually led to a profiterole plate that again I never would have ordered but because things were going soo well.....and sure enough it was EPIC and that was from a non lover of the kind! Have fun and enjoy this place and keep an open mind as it might blow you away!

Yelp
An absolute culinary gem. Amazing vibe (perfect for car lovers!), fantastic staff, and incredible food that I'm still dreaming about. Every aspect of this restaurant, from the attentive staff to the incredible food, showcased a level of dedication that is truly commendable. I cannot emphasize enough how highly I recommend this place. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience!

Yelp
More or less stumbled into this French bistro via Yelp, and went expecting the usual. What a shock! This place is extraordinarily good. Who knew that a Bibb lettuce salad could be so gorgeous? That the warm bread would float off the table? We had the rack of lamb, a special, and the king salmon au citron, with the aforementioned salad and an earthy, deep mushroom soup to begin. Oh, heaven! The play we were in Ghent to see was very good, but the dinner was out of this world. Expect a leisurely pace. We were there almost two hours before we had to leave for the play and the creme brulée had not yet made it to our table. The ambiance? Well, come expecting to be surprised! I won't spoil it . . .

Yelp
I was intrigued by Shadow 66 as we would frequently pass it on the way home. Although i was initially hesitant due to some of the negative reviews here, i decided to give it a try and i have to say it FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. We were warmly greeted by the owner and the service was just perfect from our server Tammy as well as from the lovely staff who took care of our water and bringing our food. I ordered the salmon tartare and had the filet mignon au poivre with gratin dauphinois and green beans. My filet mignon was done rare just as i ordered. As to the ambiance, I thought the lighting was perfect and the bar in particular looked extremely inviting. The restaurant was hopping but thankfully not loud at all. I'm very looking forward to returning.

Barry J.

Yelp
Had beff tartare, fries, green salad, fish of the day and the braised beef, green beans. All super delicious. Love the environment and Citroen's in the space. Will go back for sure.

Yelp
We dined here tonight and had a very pleasant experience. Attentive service, great food, limited but decent wine list. Our salads were dressed with a sort of watery, buttermilk dressing. That was the only downside, since the mains and dessert (floating island) were outstanding. The automotive atmosphere is certainly not for everyone (will car hops bring food to diners if they choose to sit in the cars?). We will definitely return.

Yelp
I went to dinner last night at Shadow 66 and had a fabulous time. We were warmly greeted at the door by the owner and promptly directed to our table. The restaurant is open and inviting with lots of French automobile/gas station memorabilia to create an interesting atmosphere - I'm a Francophile so I might be a bit impartial. I ordered the escargot (which came with plenty of bread to absorb all of that delicious garlic/parsley oil), and the hanger steak with peppercorn sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked as ordered, medium rare, and the sauce was to die for. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. I look forward to returning again in the future! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Went with 2 friends. The atmosphere was comfortable. Service was impeccable. The food was outstanding. Very fresh with a lot of flavor. We each got a diff dessert and shared. The chocolate cake won. Downside- would like more choices of apps.
