Truth be told, the "festivals" that Shady Brook constantly has are kind of a tourist trap. Still, we have a 3-year-old and live nearby, so we've ended up going a few times a year for the past few years. Until today, the experience has always been "fine."
I spent $36 on tickets and $15 on a peach bucket at the "Peach and Sunflower Festival" today. That peach bucket should get you a couple dozen peaches if I had to guess.
We went up and down the aisles checking every tree. There were, simply put, no peaches. We left with a total of 2 (see picture). Others on the wagon had no better luck. Everyone picked buckets full of bright green peaches, which will never be edible, or left with empty buckets like us.
To add insult to injury, on the way back, the wagon passed by a different, inaccessible field that was visibly (even from a distance) full of peaches.
We weren't really there for the sunflowers, which was good, because there were none of those either. The tractor didn't even make a stop for them.
I don't know if the crops weren't good this year, or maybe the fields were already picked clean. Frankly, I don't really care which -- you don't get to sell a product that you literally don't have on hand to deliver. And anyway, there were obviously peaches elsewhere, like I said. So I don't know what happened. What I do know is that the $50 I spent today is the last $50 this place will see from me.
