Shag's Crab & Seafood

I recently purchased a dozen and a half number two crabs from this place, and I was extremely disappointed. About 90% of the crabs were missing legs — and not just detached, but completely missing. The legs weren’t in the bag either; they were just not there at all. It felt like I paid for scraps, not whole crabs. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! This used to be a go-to spot, but the quality and care have clearly gone downhill. For the price and the trip, it’s just not worth it anymore. They need to step it up — customers deserve better than this. I won’t be returning unless there’s a major improvement. 6/13/25::: UPDATED TO RESPOND TO OWNER'S COMMENTS: Thank you for your response. However, I must point out that your reply feels dismissive and lacks the level of professionalism expected from a business owner. As a paying customer, I anticipated not just a quality product but also a respectful and solution-oriented response. My favorite place ever! Crabs are always excellent. We order usually at least once a week. Menu items (crab cakes and shrimp tacos are my favorite) are always made with fresh Ingredients. The inside is decorated beautifully and the staff- always friendly and helpful. Very hard working owners and employees and it shows!! I love shags!

The menu had so many delicious offerings it was tough to decide what to order. We had calamari, clams casino, Clam balls, shrimp tacos and fried clams. Everything was mouthwateringly delicious When we were ready to leave we ordered half dozen jumbo garlic crabs to go. They were phenomenal, just full of meat! Highly recommend

I'm gona say it. Best fried oysters in south jersey. Local little carry out seafood market. Every thing we got was fresh n delicious.

So easy to call ahead and order your food. Customer service is top tier. Crabs are hitting!

The fried soft shell crab sandwich was SO yummy. Prices are great and BYOB to boot

Their crabs are so meaty and flavorful. Price is very reasonable and they even offer to clean your crabs. Traveled from CHELTENHAM Pa for these bad boys. They did not disappoint.! Highly recommend will return in near future

Shags Crabs & Seafood is probably my favorite spot to get crabs. Prices were pretty decent at first glance, but after they cooked and cleaned it in old bay and garlic, I realized that this was a great deal! By far some of the best crabs you can get in south jersey. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself and your family. Also this place has great customer service. I placed my order the day before and they were ready for me to go. I was on the phone longer then I was inside of Shags. Shout out to them. Also the inside was very clean and homey. I will be coming back for more crabs in the future!

A friend recommended Shags and even though it was over the bridge, it was $10-20 cheaper and had better hours than any place near me. I called a day ahead and ordered a dozen crabs. When I picked I the next day they were hot and ready exactly when I told them I'd be up. I ordered the the largest crabs they had but they all varied in size. I believe this is just how crabs are these days but to me they were on the smaller end. The inside had plenty of premade options for purchase. Things like crab legs, seafood pastas, crab cakes, etc. The employees were extremely friendly and overall everything went smoothly.

Boy, just had a sautéed soft shell crab sandwich on a soft roll with tomato and lettuce and a really tasty tarter sauce. Staff was friendly and food prepared carefully. It's mainly a take away place with limited seating but clean and comfortable. Another customer was enjoying steamed crabs with a butter garlic sauce that said was really good!

Good crab cakes, not great. Not jumbo lump, and a lot of shells in them. For the price, Bobby Chez are still the best crab cakes.

Awesome quaint little gem. After touring Fort Mott and taking the ferry to Fort Delaware was in the mood for seafood. Googled what was nearby and found Shags. We had scallop baskets , shrimp tacos, broiled seafood combo and crab balls and everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. Great homemade slaw and old bay fries was crispy and delicious and nothing was greasy. We will definitely be back.

I love going to this restaurant the food is so fresh and good. The service is great.The ambiance is a homie feel to it.

Shags has the Best cleaned crabs! I drive from Philadelphia to get crabs from them. The garlic crabs are hands down delicious, juicy and meaty. Crabs are always fresh. I'm hooked!

We were out for a Saturday, zig zagging on small and large highways when wr camevupon Sag's crab and seafood. We stopped in and low and behold the were making lunch. Broiled scallops, crab cakes abd fish and chips. 15 minutes later it was ready. FANTASTIC food. Everything had its own rich flavor. Definately a Do Over for us!!

We recently move to NJ and my husband, who is from Texas, has been in search of the best fried shrimp around! Shag's hit the spot for him! He said it was amazing and the fries were equally outstanding! I'm not so big on fried food, so I opted for the blackened Mahi tacos! They exceeded my expectations!! Delicious with a hint of spice and cilantro - you could still taste the fish and toppings despite the blackened flavor. In fact, they were so good I'm taking an additional order home for my daughter!! The people here are very nice and helpful too! Tommy helped us navigate the menu and our order! He was friendly, patient and knowledgeable!! I was leary because of some older mediocre reviews, but this place is worth a try! You will not regret it! Delicious! Speedy service too!!

This tiny seafood place has seafood to go or you can eat in the restaurant. There is seating for about 15. The seafood selection was various including fish tacos with fresh salsa and fried seafood baskets. I got the fried flounder platter with home made coleslaw and fresh corn fritters. The fish was crispy but lacked flavor. The coleslaw had a great home made taste and the corn fritters were sweet salty and fried. This restaurant is great for a quick reasonably priced seafood meal. It is not my favorite but satisfied my craving for seafood.

Best seafood in Salem county hands downs! The Specials, The Specials, The Specials.. Make sure you follow them to stay up with what they are daily. Just the other day I had two dozen Large size #1s for 1/2 price. I prefer the crabs cooked and cleaned and I go with extra garlic which they do the best. No one compares in Quality for your money. All the refrigerated salads on hand or extremely good. The seafood salad, shrimp salad, jumbo lump crab spaghetti, shoot me and bury me in them. This is a south jersey must for seafood.

Great take out! Also a bait shop attached. Great crabs. Crab cake, scallops. Order and take out and eat at the beach!

Absolutely HORRIBLE. OVERCOOKED food, everytime. Upon returning with inedible shrimp that were so overcooked it was impossible to peel, they took the shrimp back over the counter, took them in the back for several minutes, only to hand them back and would not give a refund or exchange for them. That is completely unexceptable and UNSANITARY. As someone who worked in the seafood industry for many years, this is absolutely disgraceful. Terrible service, kids running the place that don't have a clue what they're doing. Horrible customer service, looks really bad when everyone working is just sitting behind the counter... as well as not a single person working wearing a mask.

Great Seafood Good quality fresh seafood cooked to order Discovered this place from a friend at work When He sent me a photo of their summer special on Mon- Tues -Wed So it looked so good i had to check it out! Not disappointed a great find and the best tribute is we will cone back again and again! We had 6 nice sized crabs. Cooked to order cleaned and seasoned with-a choice of shrimp or clams an fresh corn on the Cobb Small seating area but owner says next summer will include outside seating. thats Great! Shrimp Po boy. Not a fan. Low seafood, the sandwich was disappointing. Too sweet . loaded with sweet Cole slaw. Bread was great. I can get it at at a bakery.

I almost don't want to give this little secret away. Shags is a small bait and tackle shop that gradually morphed into a crab & seafood take-out shop. The crabs are always fresh off the boat and packed with meat. You have your choice of 1s, 2s or my favorite the jumbos. Jumbos are hard to get and are typically only available on weekends. Cleaning and or cooking the crabs are available for an additional charge of $2 for each. Even with that cost I've still found their crabs cheaper than competitors. A dozen #1s cooked and cleaned recently cost me $34.00. They offer about 5 different spice options with cooking but I can never seem to move beyond classic old bay. You can get shrimp, clams, fish and dinner platters in addition to crabs so there really is something for anyone who likes seafood.

The best place to get fresh seafood around this area. I travel from Bridgeton to get the crabs and clams. Thank you for doing such a great job Shag's

This "bait-shop" has excellent cooked seafood, take-out or eat it there in the small dining area. Eat-in area was pleasant and clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. We tried the crab cake platter, fish and chips, calamari, broccoli and hush puppies. Everything was cooked perfectly. Make this your new secret spot, we are! It's a great bait shop, too.

Great Sunday dinner! Hope the basket species come to the weekends. A beer, and I would say 5 stars.

Ordered takeout the other night went to pick up food place was very disorganized had 3-4 people working front of house. Picked up order and took it home was missing a few items no cocktail or tarter sauce,for being a crap place worst crab cake I have ever had and Cole slaw was sour .. shrimp was not bad but I don't think it's the shrimp they sell out front so I would stick with getting crabs and not wasting money on their take out food

what a great place for seafood! I was working with a local Salem Co. resident who recommended Shag's. I have been sharing with all my seafood loving friends

Stopped in at 5:30 to order 2 broiled flounder platters and fish tacos with a side of quest. Was told a one hour wait. My husband went to pick up the order at 6:30 and it wasn't complete. The price was $25 more than we expected, when we opened the containers - we had scallops (which neither of us eat), crab cakes (again, we don't eat) shrimp and flounder - all the seafood was cool to the touch and more importantly, was not what we ordered. When I called, I was told the clerk wrote down broiled combo. As a customer - I didn't pay attention to what she was writing so we were stuck with food that we had to heat up what we would eat, and there away the rest, Furthermore, I ordered a side of queso for the chips which accompanied the fish tacos (the fish is fried, I should've asked) the order was altered as the fish tacos were made of two fried fish sticks with slaw and covered In queso.. inedible and a huge disappointment-. If you go, be prepared to wait a long long time for adequate food that may or may not be what you ordered
