Best bakery in Flushing hands down. If you are a Flushing gourmet, I guess you already know that some of the Chinese bakeries are more of old-schooled and some are kore modern. Shakalaka definitely is on the modern side of the spectrum. New recipes, new kinds of bread, their bakers just know how to balance the flavors of bread and star ingredients (meat floss/taro/rice/bean paste/etc) well.

Shakalaka Bakery is such a cute spot in Flushing! Tons of fresh pastries and sweets, and everything looks amazing. Not too sweet, just really good and flavorful. Perfect place to grab a treat or take some desserts home. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area! Our main favorites are the Mango Pomelo and Matcha cakes!

Went to Shakalaka Bakery in Flushing today. They have a bunch of really pretty cakes — like the kind you end up staring at for way too long because you can’t decide. We grabbed a few to try, and they were actually pretty good. Not too sweet and really soft. The shop is super clean and everything’s nicely set up. And I heard it’s the same owner as SALSWEE in Manhattan, which kinda makes sense once you see the style 😂 Anyway, if you’re in Flushing and feel like getting a cute cake, this place is worth a try. Pretty solid overall.

Super busy bread store . Of course tastes great ! I brought a cake for 柿柿如意 my friends really like it ~ pic 3 rd is another cake we brought on Christmas ~ my friends and me like here a lot. The important thing is the cakes here , not that sweet 😊🤭

This bakery really exceeded my expectations! The cake was fresh and delicious, with just the right level of sweetness—not too heavy at all. The cream was very smooth and delicate. The staff were also incredibly friendly and patient. I’ve already recommended it to my friends and will definitely come back again!

Having tried the realistic mango desserts at Tucha (LA) and Eclectic Collection (London), I can confidently say this version is superior. It’s perfectly sweetened, exceptionally fresh, and filled with real mango pieces. It was so good I had to fight my mate for the last bite! The banana dessert was equally impressive - not overly sweet, with a great balance of chocolate and real banana. You can really tell they don't use artificial flavorings.

This bakery has beautiful lighting that makes the space warm and inviting. There’s a wide selection of baked goods, so there’s something for everyone. Best of all, the bread is always fresh and tastes amazing.

I've been watching so many TikTok's of people in LA eating the fruit pastries and I've vern craving one so bad. I really did not want to go all the way to salswee in the city to get one, so I was so excited that shakalaka carried their mango fruit! It was definitely worth the hype. Such a pretty dessert, amazing crunch factor, and my favorite part was the mango coulis on the inside. It was $12 for a small pastry, but definitely worth the try. I would get it again as a treat!

I do not have a sweet tooth and usually dislike cakes, especially really creamy ones. With that said, this bakery had perhaps simultaneously the most delicious and most beautiful cake all at once. It looked like something out of the world of Totoro and all his animal buddies. The texture was a perfect balance of soft sweet + crunchy chocolate bits. It was so good that we went to check out the physical store and service / ambiance matched the beauty of the cake.

This review is solely for their cakes. I first encountered these cakes during my birthday party and I immediately laughed when I saw the name of the birthday. I love catchy names like this. There were two 8 inch taro cake and oreo strawberry cake. Both had great presentation and were beautiful. To top it off, all I kept hearing was "good, not too sweet," which as we know is complete approval for Asian families. I love the abundance of toppings for each cake. They did not skimp on taro filling or oreo and strawberry. We liked it enough that we went back to try a few more of their cakes. One tip is if there is a cake you really want, place the order online. They only have a select number of cakes in store on display and in the fridges behind the counter. I ordered the 4 inch mango pomelo sago cake. It's a very delicate cake. As soon as you rip the plastic off, it starts to sag. This wasn't bad as a cake but it's probably the one cake I wouldn't get again from this bakery. It was $17 for a 4 inch and about $38 for select 8 inch cakes. Prices are good as your typical Paris Baguette and chain bakeries prices are climbing.

Not worth the hype!! Cute Coconut Moose but tastes blah!! For $11.95, nope!! Not again!! Service was ok!! Nice ambiance though!! Pricey place!!

Stopped by here for dessert and had a pleasant experience. There's a lot of selections to choose from but we ended up getting the egg tarts. It was flavorful, flaky, not dry, delicious. Overall ambiance is alright. It's pretty cramped inside and the tables were very close together so it was difficult to maneuver around. Bathroom was clean. I'd come back again if I'm in the area and craving something sweet.

I was able to try a variety of desserts from Shakala Bakery due to them offering small cakes. There are interesting combinations, but overall just okay. Soybean Milk Cake ($14.99) - This had a soybean cream which was unique. Matcha Pistachio Cake ($16.99) - Basically tasted like a matcha sponge cake with strawberries inside. Only had pistachio crumbs on top, otherwise no pistachio flavor which was disappointing. Taro Purple Rice Cheese Cake ($16.99) - I liked the creamy taro filling and fluffy sponge cake, but the purple rice inside was too hard. Basque Burnt Cheesecake Cake ($12.99) - This was light, but I've had better. Snow Nuts Torrone ($6.99) - Seems to be made with nuts, marshmallow, cracker, and cranberry, creating a soft, layered, crunchy texture. Not too sweet. Very good bite size snack.

The pastries here are absolutely adorable! I ordered a mango mousse that looks like a mango!! Location is great and it is convenient. Even late at night folks are stopping in to buy buns. Service is great!

Now that I've tried some more cakes from this bakery, I can safely say that there are hits and misses. And some of these misses are outrageously pricey. I got the coconut mousse ($9.95) and the banana mousse because they were just so adorable. Both had a chocolate exterior that was impressively molded into a banana/coconut. While I didn't mind the taste of either, it's not something that I found super likeable or worthy of buying again. The pork floss cake was unique and reminded me of those Chinese bakery pork floss buns. I kind of liked the salty and sweet combo. The Christmas cake was very bland, and the sponge cake was more like the Chinese bakery Japanese cheesecakes. It weirdly had banana slices in between each layer, even though the cake topping was a chocolate-covered strawberry. I totally thought it was going to be a strawberry cake and not a banana cake! The mango puree cake was inventive in that the puree poured down when the plastic cake wrap was removed, but the flavor was a bit off. It didn't taste as sweet as it should've.

Shakalaka Bakery -- where the desserts are as fun as the name. This Flushing gem doesn't just settle for the usual suspects of Chinese bakeries; it serves up a variety of unique offerings that'll make you pause and say, "Wait, I've gotta try that." The osmanthus jasmine oat milk tea was an instant favorite. It's light, floral, and delicately sweet. Pair that with their creative pastry selection, and you've got a bakery experience that's hard to beat. Final thought? Shakalaka Bakery is a must-visit for anyone looking to step outside the usual bakery fare and indulge in something a little more adventurous (see pictures below). Just don't blame me if you end up craving that osmanthus milk tea every week -- it's dangerously addictive!

Shakalaka's cakes are DE-FRIGGIN-LICIOUS. Lemme start this by saying I'm not really a fan of cakes. HOWEVER, their cakes have to be every person's dream dessert. The quality is second to none and finds the balance of sweetness, but not to sweet so perfectly. This was the second cake we've had at Shakalaka (Blueberry) and previously we had their mango cake. I'd lean a bit more towards their mango cake, but this blueberry was still explosive. The jam that was included was a little tart which was a nice change of pace partway through the cake. If you have a birthday coming up, a special event, or just want an excuse to grab a cake GET IT FROM SHAKALAKA and whoever you share it with will be so impressed!

Great bakery offers specialty cakes, bread and pastries. My favorite is the Pork floss taro cake. It's salty on the outside with seaweed and not too sweet inside with 3 layers of cake and 2 thick layers of taro. $13.99 for 4 inches. 8 inches for $45 which is pretty reasonable. Also tried their mango $11.95. Filling inside tastes fresh with mango flavor. Outside is a thin crispy crush. It's tasty but pricey. Unfortunately Customer service was just ok. Not much smiles / thank you. Minus one star also because the inconvenience of ordering. No phone order accepted. All order has to go through the app Fantaun. So I went on the app, however, they don't have the 8 inches cake I want. They only offer in 4 inches size. So I called them back. They told me since it is not on the app, I have to go in person to order it. I cannot give them my credit card number over the phone. That was very inconvenient. I heard the owner is the same owner of the bakery place Salswee bakery in NYC. They both share similar products such as the mango and banana. They both look very realistic.

Very unique bakery that stands out from all the other bakeries because of the modern ideas/recipes. A little bit more upscale and pricier but I definitely would recommend checking this out when you're in flushing!

Went in for the Thai tea cake & the chestnut cake, but they don't sell either anymore! So disappointed, I didn't even try the chestnut cake! This is the only bakery I know of that sold Thai tea (my fave boba flavor) cake, which is the main reason I'd come here. Hope they bring both flavors back! Anyway, I saw an impressive selection of desserts. I got coconut mousse ($9.95) & mango ($11.95). Both are so pretty, shaped & colored like the actual fruit, I couldn't resist. 5/5 The mango is so pretty! It's green, yellow-orange& red-orange. It's 1 of the cutest, prettiest desserts I've seen! It tastes amazing too. The center has what seems like a thin layer of mango mousse, with mango jelly & mango pieces. It's sweet & sour, perfection in a dessert. If you like mango or even the tartness of passion fruit, I think you'll love this! 2/5 The coconut mousse has a chocolate shell, creamy, otherwise bland coconut mousse. The center has mango jelly & mango pieces on top. What saved this is the mango jelly & mango pieces, which make it sweet & sour. Otherwise, it wuda been extremely bland. I wouldn't get this again. Please bring the chestnut cake & the Thai tea cake back!

My friend had the strawberry Oreo cake for her birthday and just from the sound of it, I was really scared it was going to be too sweet. To my surprise, it's not too sweet! I'm a huge Chinese fruit sponge birthday cake fan, and the Oreo cake tasted just like that with a mild Oreo flavor! What a fun twist to the classic. I'm excited to try other flavors they have for my upcoming birthdays!

Great bakery on Roosevelt! We were looking for a smallish cake for a birthday and thought it would be fun to order the one that looks like a mango (which they outsource from Salswee Bakery) and the Mango pomelo sago lava cake to sort of resemble a mango before and after it is cut. Loved the mango pomelo cake! Not too sweet and the popping bubbles and fruit on top made it taste more refreshing. Definitely more cream than cake though. I already knew the mango shaped cake was going to look better than it tastes but the taste was actually not too bad. The mango filling was a bit sweeter than the mango pomelo cake though. Also found their German pudding egg tart rather interesting so we got that as well and it was very dense. The egg filling on the inside was good but the butter crust, which is more pronounced than your typical egg tart since it's so tall, was rather unimpressive. Didn't really have that delectable butter crust flavor that you get with your traditional egg tarts.

Very delicious dessert food as you can see in the picture. Tastes very fresh, staff was nice and it's a cute place to sit in.

These desserts look really good on the gram! They also taste pretty good as well. But they're kinda small for what you pay for. So you need to accept that fact. It's pricey but so grammable. The Mango looks almost realistic. The inside is not too sweet. When you give this to a friend they'll feel special and feel the need to post it online as well. The banana is really small but has a really strong banana flavor. It was roughly the length of my index finger. I would get the mango instead. The coconut drink is pretty good except when you try to eat it out breaks immediately. The chocolate shell looks pretty good but breaks when you try to eat it. They have other pastries and croissants but I have only tried these smaller desserts cakes. The staff is pretty efficient and are ready to get these small fruit shaped cakes to you. I noticed they were already prepackaged in their individual boxes already.

I tried their mango and blackberry cakes. The cakes have a lot of frosting and fruit is minimal within the layers. The blackberry seeds were plentiful so be careful because it gets stuck in teeth; the mango pieces in between the cake layers were hard, as if the mango they used wasn't ripe yet. The cake itself was the best part - light and fluffy! The cakes were pretty but don't get them for the fruits; they play a minimal part in the cake flavor.

There are tons of great bakeries in downtown Flushing, but I always take the time to come here. Aside from the delicious bread here, Shakalaka has the cutest little cakes and the flavors are so interesting. I've tried quite a few already, and my personal favorite is the mango pomelo cake, it tastes just like the dessert soup (IYKYK!). Service is always friendly and helpful. There are a few tables in the back but I've always gotten them to-go.

The cakes are really cute and esthetically pleasing. I like this bakery for their mini cakes, it's a really good size for small/intimate occasions; or if you want to celebrate with a very small group of family/friends. The price is acceptable but I would say it's slightly high for a small cake. The cakes tastes pleasant, it's not overly sweet or heavy.

Every time I passed by at night, their display cases were empty! I do see they're on TooGoodToGo, so maybe that's why. My curiosity got to me on if these baked goods were actually good. Options wise, there wasn't anything particular worth grabbing. They seem to offer Japanese inspired or influenced pastries. I got their Mochi Taro Bun ($2.95), which I was intrigued by the mochi in bun. It looked like they used wheat for this bread, which contributed to lack in moisture, but the chewiness of the mochi, laced with the sweet pasty texture of the taro, makes up for it. Their Iced Milk with Oat Milk ($3.29) also wasn't too shabby. I wish the bakery had more options, but I think they're worth a visit for a more modern take on traditional Chinese bakeries in the area. And for sure if you manage to score their TooGoodToGo deal.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon! What a nice bakery! Love everything they sell! My kids wanted everything in there! They have so many varieties of croissants! They were sooo delicious! My kids definitely want to come back and try the rest of them! Staff was great too! Nice and friendly!

I got a 6" Mango Chiffon Cake for Mother's day and I was impressed with the quality of the cake. It was light, airy, and not too sweet. The inside tastes like a freshly made Chinese sponge cake and you can really taste the egg-y flavor. The inside was filled with cream and plenty of fresh mangoes. I was surprised how generous they were with the fruits. I do wish there was a little less cream inside but nonetheless, was still a great cake and I would come back to try their other flavors such as Thai Tea. I also got a scallion/pork floss pastry and a vanilla latte to go. I really enjoyed my vanilla latte! This is a great spot in Flushing to try if you have not stopped by already.

There's so many bakeries in the area but I think this one stands out among the rest! It's modern and has unique options of pastries along with a variety of coffee and drinks. I had a matcha croissant that was packed with matcha cream and tasted fresh! I could not resist trying this coconut custard made into this adorable coconut shape. It was also delicious and not too sweet! There's a few tables in the back to enjoy your treats at. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area to try more!

Got the matcha pistachio 4 inch cake ($13.99) and it was very good. Good matcha and pistachio flavors in the cake. The inside of the cake has strawberry. I'll definitely get this cake again and will try their other flavors. They have other bakery items in the front and there is a seating area in the back. They also accept credit card which is another plus.

The little pork floss cake is SO delicious! Extremely flavorful and not sweet. It is a savory cake. A taste I have never tried before. Extremely delicious! Highly recommend.

Shakalaka? when i first heard of this name, I couldn't help but to think of that one song; but quite frankly, this bakery is everything you THOUGHT you knew about about bakery but MUCH more. Shakalaka Bakery offers not only variety that one would expect from their typical Asian bakery counter-part but distinct flavours that one would not think of. First, this bakery's design is very simple and clean; the place is very spacious despite being in a more narrow setting in the ever-bustling neighborhood of Flushing. Also, the ingredient they use; most people initially would be like "damn look at the price tag though"; but when you take a bite into it (i.e. their croissant, and other baked bread), you will nod to yourself on the inside and goes "ok, i kinda see why now" Now, don't get me started on their cake creation; you think you knew Asian bakery until you tried their goods. For example, pork floss on cake? when i first heard this I was like "what?" but do not just let me be the one to tell you, try it! it's delicious! Also, their taro cream cake with the purple rice? it most def hit the spot. The taro cream covered the outside of the cake is not too sweet (it's hand-made!), and their fluffy cake is stuffed with the creamy taro filling pair with the purple rice to give that right amount of sweetness and the layers of flavor satisfaction! They also have different size option(s) for their cake so you won't have to break a leg and an arm in order to consider for a budget friendly special occasion. Quite frankly, with the ever-rising price inflation, their price point is acceptable.

Strawberry pork floss - very interesting. First time trying a pork floss pastry. This was on a sponge castella cake with strawberry flavored pork floss. When you first eat it it tastes like eating a strawberry sponge cake. But towards the end, you can taste the pork floss and it gets alittle bit chewy. If it wasn't for the pork floss, I'd get it again. Matcha roll - need more flavor here but can say you taste abit of matcha Egg tart - I want to say this egg custard was steamed. It wasn't gooey, and the texture was fine.. but the taste seemed abit off to me. The chia seed roll - this one had caramalized walnut or pecans with ham. Pass for me. Lacks flavor and doesn't go well together The other two items have no flavor whatsoever. Also got the Thai iced tea cake - this sponge cake base was good but can barely taste the Thai tea flavor. Service was strange - the workers do know English but dismissive in terms of explaining what each pastry was Ambiance is not bad. Relatively clean. Has seating inside. Won't be returning here but in the event I do; will give an update. Overall this bakery lacks flavor and will rate it as 4/10.

Unique pastries and cakes! My fav ones are the pork floss mini egg cakes, a little pricy for what it is though. I recently got to try the ferrero rocher cake, it wasn't as chocolatey as I expected. I would've enjoyed a more rich chocolate creamy taste which it seemed to lack but the cake was soft and there were hazelnuts in between. I'd be back and try other mini cakes next time.

I bought the blueberry cake and Thai tea cake to a 6-person party. Two mini cakes together are enough to share, but it's not easy to cut mini cakes without them falling. Although the cake is spongy, it's a bit dry, the texture is odd comparing to the chiffon cake I make at home. I am not a fan of the cream/buttercream texture either. I don't think I will come back or recommend.

I really love the seating area in this bakery, everything is so aesthetically pleasing. I think the breads are on the pricier side but it is very clean and spacious inside the bakery. We tried the pork floss bun and the taro with pork floss. Both were tasty.

Very clean and updated bakery in the heart of Flushing. AC is strong. All the pastry looks very upscale at a decent price. No Splenda. Seating is limited which requires some waiting around. Great place to grab food to bring to the airport before a flight.

Cakes here are more on the less sweet side, which is fine for the cheesecake, but feel like the egg tart needs a bit more sugar. Cheesecake is pretty good; it's pretty interesting with the purple rice. I don't really like the crust of egg tart. The strawberry pork floss is weird, in a negative way imo. The strawberry tastes like strawberry milk in vn (not sure here cuz I never drink strawberry milk ever again lol) and that flavor just doesn't go with the pork floss.

One of my favorite Chinese modern bakeries in downtown Flushing. They have a variety of in-house new-school pastries and cakes. It feels clean and bright inside with indoor seating in the back. The service is friendly and fast as well. I like their interesting selection of pastries, kind of like a Korean bakery with innovative desserts and pastries. Their basque burnt cheesecake cakes are definitely worth it for an event and comes in several flavors including matcha and oreo. They even have a mini Thai tea cake! The price seems decent for this type of bakery. They also have quite an extensive drink menu, great to pair with the many delectable options. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Bathroom available. Indoor seating and takeout available. Open decently late. Bon appetit!

Shakalaka Bakery offers breads, buns, coffee, cakes and baked goods. Among my favorite are their cakes and cream puffs. I love their cakes, they are so delicious! It's an airy and light, not dense. I believe they offer 5+ flavors you can choose from. They offer same day morning order and pick it up in the afternoon. They also offer petite cakes which can feed 1-2 people. These come in modern Asian flavors such as Thai Tea. There's seating and bathroom available in the back.

Went here for the egg tart that went viral! It was so worth the trip to this specific bakery in Flushing

I got a blind box from this bakery. I just paid $5.43 on the app which named TooGoodToGo. I have to say they put 5 breads in the box, that is more than my expected. I want to give them 5 stars! Really! But when I found the breads with dried meat floss, I stopped my finger. I think they forgot something very important. They should tag the labels for their products. I think it's really necessary! Even though I don't have the right to choose what items in the box, but I should know what the ingredients are.

Ordered the Mochi Taro Bun and was shock at how rock hard the mochi was. I could not bite it at all and have to throw it away. Very disappointed.

This place was amazing! The food is extremely high quality and the prices are more than reasonable. It feels like a fancy French bakery with the prices of a local Asian bakery. There were croissants, pastries, and even some savory items like hotdogs in buns and a crab sandwich. The fruit pastries we ordered hit the sweet tooth I didn't even knew I had! Definitely would come back here again.

Stopped by to check out the new bakery in Flushing - serving up a variety of pastries from a mixture of Japanese, Korean and Chinese influences... I'm the middle is a giant display of croissant/puff pastries - from sweet to savory. The bakery is very spacious and bright. The seating area is very nice. Almost forgot I was in downtown Flushing..... I can tell they spent a lot on the decor... even the trays and tongs were nice.

My friend always bought baked goods here and I heard good reviews about this bakery. So I decided to give it a try and bought a birthday cake for my friend. Came here on the day before Chinese new year, and so many people buying cakes!!!!! Was pretty surprised because I don't know people eat cakes before CNY. Since I went at around 4pm , there aren't many selections left. Saw this taro cake and fell in love with the purple look. Simple and pretty. Luckily I got the one of the last two! In terms of the taste, I think it's not bad, I could taste the taro flavor (not super strong tho) and the almond on the top matched with the flavor. However cream is a bit too much. Love the size of the cake, good for 5-6 people. I saw that they also have sesame flavor, want to try that next time

Great new bakery that just opened today! I went later on in the day so many shelves were empty compared to the morning but whatever they had left tasted so good! I'm a fan of their baked breads and pastries. I was pleasantly surprised when I bit into the green Sichuan pepper cheese chicken as well as the Japanese crab bread. Nice savory elements inside delicate clouds of bread. The fruit pastries were light with fresh fruit, airy custard filling and flaky crust. I also got an almond croissant which was good, but I prefer ones with an inside filling like at Breads Bakery. These croissants are beautifully made though. They also sell cream puffs at 4 for $6.99. Unfortunately they don't sell it individually (at this time, maybe ever) so I didn't get any because most of the flavors sold out. Flavors include: matcha, strawberry, mango, blueberry and cookie butter/Speculoos. Everyone was in line to buy cakes which looked amazing! One person bought a large cake and it was packaged so pretty in a see-through plastic container with black and gold ribbon. Prices are higher than other bakeries around Flushing. However, Shakalaka has some creative items and flavors that aren't easy to find, so I will be back to try more.

The pistachio cake was really cute. It is def a shareable cake for around 2 people. There are other flavors available. The cake wasn't very sweet and doesn't have a strong pistachio flavor. Overall the taste and aesthetics of the cake were nice as a small birthday cake.

Super bad service I got from this lady. I try to order a birthday cake, and I asked her if there is a birthday cake menu to take out, and she just reply me " everything is here" with a rude tone. She even didn't look at me, seems like she doesn't really care about everything. Such a bad attitude and I just left

I stopped in this bakery just to kill some time, but I ended up buying some of their mini cream puffs! The baked goods are very nicely presented and aesthetic, especially their croissants. They also sell mini cakes (maybe 4" diameter?) for $13.99. I got the mini cream puffs for 4 for $6.99. They have 5 flavors: Oreo, matcha, mango, blueberry, and strawberry. I got all except for Oreo. They were nicely put into a box. I enjoyed them all, and my favorite was strawberry. The mango was actually vanilla flavored cream with a mango on top. I was expecting the cream to be mango flavored too... Overall, the cream was very light and not too sweet. The cream puff shell was also thin but crisp and soft at the same time. I definitely want to come back and try the other yummy pastries and breads they make!

My new favorite spot to grab a cake! I received 2 small cakes for my birthday last year and it was absolutely amazing! I decided to pick one up for another friends birthday some time after finding this place. Their Thai Tea cake is super affordable and delicious! I haven't tried anything else from here yet but will always go for the cakes!
