Since Shake A Leg opened their doors, the food has stayed consistently delicious, flavorful, and fresh. The customer service is always warm and welcoming, which makes every visit feel like family. Some of my absolute favorites are the cabbage with oxtails and the lamb chops ,seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. There’s something about the way they prepare their dishes, especially with that touch of male cooking, that just hits different. This is a Black-owned, family-run gem that really puts love and care into every plate. Highly recommend if you’re looking for soulful, home-style meals that never disappoint!

Shake-a-Leg Restaurant Updated Review – Giving Credit Where It’s Due In the past, I posted a low review about Shake-a-Leg based on a couple of bad experiences I had. But I truly believe that when a business makes improvements, it’s only right to come back and acknowledge the growth. Because I love supporting and spending my money in my community, and since I recently decided to stop eating red meat, I found myself hungry one day with nothing prepped at home. I decided to give Shake-a-Leg another try and ordered their salmon egg rolls—and when I tell you they were the most delicious egg rolls I’ve ever eaten, I truly mean that. I’ve had egg rolls before, including salmon egg rolls from other places, and they were often dry or had a fishy taste. Not these. These were moist, flavorful, and absolutely magnificent. Since that first order, I’ve gone back two more times just for them, and they were consistently amazing. Sometimes when a business is new, they’re simply working out the kinks, and I didn’t want to leave a negative impression out there without coming back to give proper credit where it’s earned. Shake-a-Leg has become my go-to spot when I want a quick, satisfying bite that’s non-red meat, and they delivered in a big way. If you haven’t tried their salmon egg rolls, I highly recommend you check them out. They are worth the money. Because of this experience, I’m deleting my previous review, where I had given Shake-a-Leg one star. That review reflected how I felt at the time, but it no longer represents the quality, improvement, and consistency I’ve experienced since then. Growth deserves to be acknowledged, and I believe in being fair when a business gets it right.

The wings were greasy, tasteless, and extremely small with a few feathers. They charge $2 for Hennessy BBQ sauce and the cup is tiny. You would think it would be free since the wings are so terrible! The White Mac and Cheese was also tasteless and extremely oily. It also had almost no cheese. Just tasteless macaroni. Even my 10yr old said the food was disgusting! Very disappointing especially because I paid $21 for this awful meal!! Only fit for the garbage!

The food was fresh and great! Catfish on point. Sweet potatoes was a 10. I prefer white cheddar over regular Mac and cheese. Jerk chicken egg rolls are good but need a dipping sauce. They ran out of jerk sauce. I guess that's a good sign. The fruit punch was good. I'll definitely return to try more menu items. Service was great. Thanks guys.

I was told they’re really popular dishes so I will definitely be back to try those!

Wanted chicken wings and was told they didn’t have any. After ordering salmon bite and my mom ordering the catfish dinner, was then told they had chicken wings. When the food arrived, we had no silverware, no condiments, no nothing. Went to eat my food and the fries were not cooked throughly and the salmon bites were not either and they had no season at all. What they call season fries are fries with season on them. I love to support my own however, I just can’t anymore with this place. I do hope they will be reading all their reviews and taking into consideration what people are saying.

The customer service wasn’t the best for my first experience. The waitress wasn’t attentive enough actually none of the staff were. Overall the food was good cabbage was salty. I will give it another try for I am a true west sider and I want our experience to be just as good as if I was in uptown or the suburbs.

Yelp
A friend sent a video to me that was highlighting five Black-owned restaurants in Chicago. I had gone to one of them and loved their food and service. Seeing that Shake A Leg was not that far from where I live, I decided to drop in to check them out. I ordered catfish with sweet potatoes and macaroni and cheese. I give them high marks for the catfish. It was nicely seasoned and breaded enough to give a crust but not too much that it took away from the meatiness of the fish. Big ups on the crisp to the crust. The sides were perfect, which again I say they deserve high marks. The highlight dish for me was the Cajun pasta that I ordered with shrimp. This reminded me of the same that I enjoyed in Louisiana. There was the right amount of sauce so that the pasta was not drowning in it. The seasoning was neither salty nor overpowering nor all over the place. Plenty room for seating and spread out enough that people are not all on top of each other. I got there early, so it had not packed out as I'm sure it does later in the day. For nights that I don't want to cook, they may get my dollars. The food was certainly worth it.

Yelp
The service was great! It's a nice BOB on the West Side with space to have an event. Some of the best strings beans I've ever had! Lbvs! The catfish was great as well! I personally like how they bring the food out in to-go containers. Makes it easier to pack up your left overs. On the street parking so keep that in mind when you're going. Parking availability will depend on the time of day.

Yelp
The food was average. I've had better. But aside from the food they had poor customer service. First of all you have to go to the counter to order and pay for your food and wait for the food to be brought out to you. I had to remind the waitress that I hadn't received. We sat there watching ppl come and go getting their food. Then we had to ask when was our food was coming out because we had order our food an hour ago. The waitress we talk to about our food was giving attitude and that's when the manager Nya came over and apologized for the wait and for the waitress' attitude. She offer us complimentary entrees. Nya handle the situation with grace and class but I won't be back.
