Shake Shack Continues Burger Boom in North County - Eater San Diego

"Shake Shack now operates five outposts in the San Diego area with the latest opening Wednesday, January 12 at the Beacon La Costa complex in Carlsbad; this is the second North County branch for the NYC-based company. The menu includes Shake Shack signatures as well as its SoCal-only burger, the Roadside Double consisting of a double Swiss cheeseburger with Dijon mustard and beer-simmered onions, plus several local beers. Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the 2,854-square-foot Carlsbad restaurant has a large patio and a special area where customers can pick up their food after pre-ordering via Shake Shack’s app." - Candice Woo

Shake Shack – The Beacon La Costa: Great Food with a View This Shake Shack location at The Beacon La Costa brings the famous New York franchise to the scenic hills of Carlsbad, offering not only its signature flavors but also a relaxing mountain-view experience. Nestled in a quiet mountain area, the restaurant features a spacious balcony, perfect for soaking up the sunshine by day or enjoying the charming night lights after dusk. The space is styled with white walls, vintage-style lanterns, and a clean, modern upscale aesthetic—simple yet elegant. Menu-wise, it’s something you expect from Shake Shack, high quality and expensive: ShackBurger with juicy, perfectly seared patties Black Truffle Burger and Fries—a creamy, flavorful twist on the classics The Fifty/Fifty drink is a personal favorite: a refreshing mix of iced tea and juice Frequent promos like free fries, free shakes, and BOGO offers make each visit feel like a little bonus. On my last trip, I scored a free black truffle item with a code for spending $10+. The view at sunset or nighttime is particularly stunning, making this a great spot not just for grabbing a bite, but for unwinding with good food and vibes. It's a dog-friendly place while allowing customers to bring the cuties with them at the outside dining area. There’s also plenty of parking available right nearby. A great Shake Shack experience—with a Carlsbad twist.

Absolutely terrible service!! took literally over 45 mins to get our food. People not wearing hairnets in the back. nasty. My food was sitting out for god knows how long and came COLD! doesn’t even look/taste good. Never coming back and u shouldn’t either. i’d give 0 stars if could.

Google
I didn't get a shake because I'm not really into sweets so this is only for the burger, chicken and fries. The fries were kinda bland. The burger was alright and the chicken nuggets were good. I wouldn't go here again the flavor was lacking. It was good to try and it filled me. But there's better places

Google
We expected a more "beachy" atmosphere like a shack on the sand and this was "pure yuppie". The hamburgers were surprisingly "petite". The parking lot was weird to negotiate and pretty full even though this restaurant was mostly empty. They can turn shakes into malts but we couldn't find this on the web menu. The young woman behind the counter was helpful. The chairs were uncomfortable.

Google
Had a coupon for a free burger with any purchase so stopped in on the way home and ordered some fries and got my free burger. Because they had all chaos. I wasn’t sure how to do the coupon so Felipe came out from behind the counter and was able to help me. I worked my phone to show him the code as he worked the kiosk to get my order in. He was super friendly more than happy to help. I got my burger and fries and headed home. I’m so hungry. I forgot to take a picture as expected, the burger and fries were top notch with the burger being a deluxe with lettuce, tomato, and everything and the fries cooked to perfection. Because it’s tucked away in this little strip bowl it’s a little hard to find they’re two entrances one of La Costa and one off El Camino. Either one will put you in the vicinity so you can find it. If you like perfect and highly recommend this restaurant or sit in or takeout.

Google
We had an excellent experience at Shake Shack. The staff was very friendly, the restaurant was clean, and our order was ready quick. Accurate and hot! We also had a team member named Sophia take some time to check on us and make sure everything was good with our order. She took time to ask our son a couple of questions, which was nice of her to show she cared. Highly recommend this location and Sophia for going above and beyond!

Google
Very clean and organized. This was my first time at a Shake Shack, I had a great experience. Madison is an absolute gem, what a sweetheart. I don't live in the area, but next time I come around I will definitely return here.

Google
Shake Shack Carlsbad is the best period! I have the best meals, the service, and cleanliness! I had an exceptional experience today (7/25) with the team. The cashier “IT” took my corset. They were pleasant, hospitable, and have a glowing personality, and my order was accurate. The team members, Jeremy and Devon prepared the best grilled cheese sandwich with bourbon sauce, strips of bacon and onions. This may sound simple but I e had others mess it up at other locations in the region. I have visited the surrounding SD region Shake Shacks, but Carlsbad is hands down the BEST!!! Thank you to “IT, “Jeremy”, and “Devon” for a stellar experience. I will keep coming back and recommending Shake Shavk Carlsbad to anyone who’s looking for a great meal and experience.

Yelp
Menu seems to be updated every few months. Food is always good and comes out relatively quickly. Staff is friendly. Kiosk ordering makes things move faster.

Yelp
My second time back to this location wasn't as good as the first time. We arrived 40 minutes til closing time, that was enough time for us to get our orders in. The staff wasn't attentive and would not acknowledge anyone standing by the register ready to order. The one staff member just said the register was down and walked off. We ordered at the kiosk and got our order in. The food was terrible, burnt and bland, and missing the special sauce. When we asked for sauce they claimed to be out. Our fries were were pretty empty and what we got was thin burnt potatoe sticks, they probably ran out of fries as well. The workers seemed really lazy and wanted everyone out so they could go home early.

Yelp
I tried Shake Shack for the first time through DoorDash. The food arrived quickly, which was the only upside. However, the fries were very soggy. I ordered the Shroom Burger. Everything tasted oily and lacked flavor.

Yelp
Nice burger place, more of a sit down burger join than fast food, although you still have to pickup the food at the counter. The burger tasted fresh and delicious although a bit more expensive than something like in and out. If the price was a bit lower I'd probably come back more often, but there are so many expensive local burger places that this one didn't stand out quite enough for me to go out of my way to come back. It's definatly worth checking out if your in the area and are looking for burgers. I got the smokey class BBQ burger and some fries. Everything was good and tasted great. Burger was juicy and the BBQ sauce was good too.

Yelp
I give 5 stars not because the burger blew me away, but Darian gets service! Period. Respectful, listens and then follows up. Made for an easy experience.. Burger is good, loved the semi sweet bun and always love crinkle cut fries. Nice to find a good burger close with better service than food. I will try a shake next, looked great!

Yelp
I love Shake Shack, but for some reason this specific store doesn't pop like the other ones we've been to. First of all, the burger itself is so delicious! I've told people that this burger is comparable if not better than in and out. But today, at this site, it just wasn't as good. I got the promotional Korean BBQ burger and the pattie was perfect, but the sauce gave a weird aftertaste. Should of stuck with the ShackBurger! Also, my son's burger had a soggy bun. So I ordered ahead on the app and it only gave me one shake choice. What? I ordered anyway thinking the machines must've been down, then we ordered the rest of the meals here. Why did all the shake options appear at the store but not as an option on the app? I tested the app for other locations and the shake choices worked. So why didn't it show on the App for here? Maybe an app issue, but the stores usually sync with the app. Also, my son likes the veggie burger, but it wasn't an option on the menu here. Again, a fan of Shake Shack, but not a fan of the inconsistency at this location. If I come back to this store, I hope to get blown away like the first time I tried SShack!

Yelp
I haven't been to the shack in a while but I was over here so I thought I'd stop. I tried to order on the kiosk but it kept erroring out. I had to try a few times before it worked. I finally placed my order, grabbed a number and sat outside. There were probably only 5 other tables. I waited about 10 minutes before my food was brought out to me. I'm not sure if I was supposed to grab napkins before I sat down but I didn't so when the tray came it didn't have any. The guy said he'd bring me some. I ordered a burger, cheese fries and a malted shake. The fries were good and hot. The burger was hot and tasted fine but every few bites I got a big piece of gristle and it was a bit overcooked. It got to the point where I just didn't want to eat anymore because of the crunchy gristle. This has not been my experience in the past. My black and white shake with malt was not blended very well and there was so much malt in the bottom it was clogging my straw. I don't mind the taste of malt but this was not good. I have to say the quality has gone down significantly since my last visit and this experience has me not wanting return to any of the locations anytime soon.

Yelp
Very fast service. The woman taking care of me was very nice and kind and the food was very good for fast food. Will come again

Yelp
Stopped by this location for a quick snack before hitting the road. The food was really good & hot! I dined in, & the order was at the table in less than five minutes. Fries were piping hot & crispy, so was the delicious cheese on top . Staff was friendly & accommodating. Dining area has lots of open space both in & outside. Great experience during lunch hours.

Yelp
Food, service and ambience was excellent! We came on a Monday evening, so a slow night, food came out fresh and fast. We order the new Smokey bbq burger, my husband wish he had more sauce because he loves a lot of sauce, but mine was perfect. Fries were crispy to perfection and the peach strawberry tea was refreshing. Oh! And let's not leave out the chocolate custard ice cream. Also yummy. We ate outside and listen to music. Very nice. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
This plaza has become pretty lively. Almost all the retail spaces have been leased out. this was our first time having Shake Shack in this plaza while having my car charged at the Supercharger. Prices in this location is pretty steep! Has all Shake Shack locations raised their prices? We ordered their Chicken sandwich and it was tasty. The chicken was crispy and not hard. Fries were tasty and had the right amount of crispiness. You order your food thru their electronic kiosk which makes it simple and fast.

Yelp
Delicious but way over priced lol we got two regular cheeseburgers and one regular fries, one cheese fries. Nothing else and it was over $30 Burgers are tiny.

Yelp
This review pretty much covers every shake shack in San Diego County. THE BURGERS ARE AMAZING! I'm not sure what took me so long to eat here. Maybe I was thinking this is just another burger spot like Burger Lounge, 5 guys, Hodads (sorry, dont yell at me) In and Out (sorry fans) etc... After trying this place a few months ago and again in Mission Valley, I am sold. Best burgers for the price. The buns are soft, beef is flavorful, grilled just right, easy menu, no frills and nothing bad here. Check it out.
google avatar

Qmars D.

Yelp
The burgers here are delicious, so good in fact that it is in the number 5 spot for my top 5 burgers. Service was fast, you can use a kiosk or order with a person. Ambiance was loud, because it was rush hour.
google avatar

Yelp
What just happened . $31for 2 single avocado bacon cheeseburgers, 1 cheese fries , 1 small coke. Tiny burgers, a tad bigger than McDonald's cheese burger. Gone in about 5 bites. Thin . Mid at best . Way over priced and lacking flavor even. Still hungry. Was like a snack . I'm good on this one. Pass Table area inside was a mess, no napkins available or any condiments.

Yelp
I like me a good shake shack once in a while. This is where I've discovered a super yummy Louisiana style hot sauce. It makes French fries dance in my mouth before they go warm up my tummy. They have an event once or so a year where they bring their spicy burger. You can smell it from outside the shop. If you've never tried it (and if they still do it) go ask when is the next sound and go eat that spicy burger. I liked it. It's got a nice kick to it. I've always been lucky with the staff, when they are busy I try to get easy on them, the restaurant industry is such a hard working one. They got a nice menu and you can order on their computer so it's pretty helpful when it's crowded.

Yelp
Hadn't been here for a while, but gave it another shot out of boredom with going to same places. I just don't get this place. It's an overpriced very simple burger. They aren't great, but they aren't terrible. Is just an "ok" burger. Got the smoke shack and regular shack burger. Burgers are small. Flavor is ok. Again, very average

Yelp
Never thought I'd write a review for a "fast food" burger joint, but felt the need due to such a positive experience we had. On an end of summer road trip (yes this is a tardy review), we stopped in to eat at Shake Shack. Choice was made due to a pleasant outdoor eating area and we had our dog with us. I'm not sure if it's always like this, but this particular Friday afternoon, we were treated like old friends. First, someone greeted us at the door and asked if we needed help ordering, followed by another friendly young man take our order at the register. Then the manager (wish I could remember her name), came outside to see if we needed anything or if our dog would like some water. Before we knew it, she came out with a fresh bowl of water and a huge dog biscuit. Oh yeah, our food... can't speak for the burgers, but the chicken was delish. I ordered the Chicken Shack sandwich and my daughter had the Chicken Bites. One of the tastiest chix sandwich I've had...crispy outside, moist inside, on a fresh bun and delicious sauce. Thanks for such an unexpected surprise lunch stop.

Yelp
Mediocre experience. Better than Habit Burger and Five Guys. But IN n Out still the best. Came here 1 evening to try out their burger and it was ok. Ordered at the counter and didn't take too long to get our food. Ordered the double burger and didn't have to wait too long. The cheese was super sticky. The meat Pattie's were very thin, cooked well but also super greasy. I didn't feel bad or have a stomachache after eating it. Outdoor patio was nice to sit, restaurant was clean. Easy parking

Christine S.

Yelp
You are forced to order from those tedious computer kiosks. Ordered a cheeseburger and did not realize there would be absolutely no toppings or spreads included on this 8$ burger, which was barely edible--a great glop of greasy meat and cheese. Our mistake I guess for not carefully reading that a cheeseburger is a different order than a "shakeburger" but why does everything have to be so complicated? Called to inquire from the manager about the issue and he said we could have ordered up front but I told him the one woman working the counter just directed us to the kiosks. We tipped as well --not sure what extra service was actually provided to merit that. Manager was not responsive. Oh well, I won't be back.

Yelp
First time having Shake Shack! Really tasty straight forward burger loved the bun! Also had a vanilla shake and the chicken bites. The bites were a little bit on the blander side but paired well with the sauce it comes with. The shake was delicious and creamy. I wasn't expecting to order through the kiosk right as you come in but I do love it and the food came out so quick after. The restaurant is a good size plenty of seating inside and out and kept really clean. Great experience, excellent burger!
google avatar

Steve Y.

Yelp
Service was okay. Manager wanted us to use the machine because he didn't want to use the register. Hesitantly, he took our order at the register. Food was okay. Eating area didn't feel like anyone cleaned it in over an hour. No paper towels in gender neutral bathroom.

Yelp
I had heard a Shake Shack opened up in Carlsbad. And then I saw the crossover promotion Hot Ones and Shake Shack are doing for a Hot Ones Burger, Chicken Sandwich and Cheese Fries and I decided it was time to check the place out. Do NOT FORGET you can get packets of "The Last Dab" hot sauce for extra kick. I forgot and was kicking myself instead. I will say, I should have taken the receipt and checked it out because I was a little surprised my bill came to just under $40 for a single bacon cheeseburger (the hot ones one), the spicy chicken sandwich, bacon cheese fries (spicy), one strawberry lemonade, and one apple cider doughnut shake/custard thing. My husband and I split this since I wanted to try a bunch of things. Still, this boils down to 2 sandwiches, 1 fry, 1 drink, 1 dessert for $40, including tax and tip. A little pricy for fast casual but not awful I guess? The manager was talking to people in line as we passed through on our way out. Super personable and friendly. The food: Spicy Bacon Cheese Burger - this was great, I'll definitely get the burgers here again and will try some of their regular menu offerings. The Hot Ones crossover is basically just adding a spicy burger sauce (it was good though). A little greasy, but not overly so, just how a good burger should be. Heat level - 5/10. A little heat, but nothing overwhelming. Spicy Chicken Sandwich - ok, the chicken was cooked well but it was an odd size for the sandwich - the buns aren't huge and it was a thick piece of chicken that only covered half the bun. The breading had some nice spice to it making this a little spicier than the burger, but all in all I preferred the burger. Heat 6/10. Spicy Bacon Cheese Fries - these are a little over the top. I prefer melted cheese over cheese sauce (which is what this uses). The fries themselves are well-fried crinkle cut, nice fries. There's Aleppo pepper sprinkled on and a spicy dipping sauce (maybe just the spicy burger sauce coming around again). Heat - 5/10, more if you use a ton of sauce, but it gets overwhelming with the cheese and sauce. Strawberry Lemonade - very nice! Love a house made lemonade. This was on the sweet side. Served with a TON of ice, more ice than lemonade which was a bummer. Not sure if refills are offered, I should have asked but they got busy. If no refills I might just get a fountain drink instead unless I REALLY wanted lemonade. My husband loves strawberry lemonade though so we had to try this. Apple Cider Doughnut Custard/Shake - they have a lot of different shakes/custards. The very sweet girl helping us at the counter said the apple cider doughnut one was great so we had to try it. They were also kind enough to split this into two cups for us. This was very good but very sweet, definitely dessert in a cup. I'd probably want to try other flavors in the future, but I would also not turn this one down either. Little bits of doughnut were in the shake, so you get hits of cinnamon and pastry. The interior is really clean and new. They have kiosk ordering kind of awkwardly placed in the middle of where a line forms in the lobby area if you want to order from a person. Apparently there's seating all the way in the back that I missed. I thought it was just outdoor seating. Seating review: About 10 outdoor tables all in a row down the side of the building. Lots of umbrellas, this was nice. The chairs were armless (appreciated) but were a super tiny/flimsy slatted style. Not very comfortable to sit on, even for a quick lunch. C+ on the chairs. Still prefer these over a narrow armed kind that kill my hips, but they were not my favorite! Location notes: The Carlsbad location is in the Beacon shopping plaza which is having quite a renaissance. I have been here several times in the past to various professional offices (financial place, escrow company, Bank) - most of them have moved on but the BofA is still there. They are really trying to repopulate/update the center and have quite a lot of cool new food places to check out in addition to Shake Shack - right next door is a Jeni's Ice Cream. There's also a Sweet Greens and a couple other placed down the way. The new super fancy butcher is in here too - The Wise Ox. Lots to check out. Eating outside here was funny because the scent of waffle cones from the ice cream shop next door is pretty overwhelmingly sweet. It's a bit like eating in a candy store!

Yelp
GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE LUNCH The Shake Shack mission statement is "Stand for Something Good". Having roots in fine dining, the company dictates that every single ingredient must meet the fine dining standard. All of their proteins are hormone and antibiotic-free. The premium, non-GMO, real ingredients used in the made-to-order menu result in a consistent, quality dish every time. Just between us girls, some corporate mission statements don't seem to fit. For instance: 1) Avery Dennison: "To help make every brand be more inspiring, and the world more intelligent" That's a broad and lofty goal. And how exactly are you gonna do that with stick-on labels? 2) Facebook: "To give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected." A bit dishonest, as fb has little to do with connecting people. Its real mission is to deliver audiences for targeted ads. 3) Microsoft: "To enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential." Is this some sort of hipster beard oil? Or maybe a self-help retreat? 4) Zappos: "Our purpose is simple: to live and deliver WOW." How does one live WOW, anyway? And if I ordered a WOW, would it be delivered in one day or two? 5) And the worst of the worst, Enron: "Respect, Integrity, Communication, and Excellence." Nope. Hell to the no. Not even close to truth. So 5 stars to Shake Shack for having a high-integrity, open, and intelligent mission... and living up to it. Gourmet fast food combined with a WOW customer experience and moderate pricing has never tasted so good.

Yelp
This might be my first review in which I keep going back and forth on the rating. Let's start with the service, which is the reason I keep going back and forth on the rating. Though they seemed pretty well staffed for a Friday afternoon, NOT ONE single employee made any contact with us. We walked in placed our order on the monitors and came back to pick our order up. We did all of this without exchanging one word with anyone working there. Essentially ZERO customer service, which was disappointing since we always experience great service at other locations. The food did not disappoint one bit. Which I was doubtful it would live up to other locations based on the lack of service we experienced. Everything was ready in a reasonable time and our order was correct.
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
I'm normally an advocate for Shake Shack however the burger on my most recent trip was less than desired. Placed an app order - keep in mind I was handed the order as soon as it was ready. From restaurant to car my cheeseburger bun was soaked in grease and so flat. Definitely a disappointment. 3 stars for the cheese fries that saved the order thank goodness were hot and fresh.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Lower quality and taste than any fast food I've ever had but twice the cost. I ordered 4 items and they were supposed to take 15 minutes but they were ready in only 8 minutes because they were obviously not made fresh. Grilled cheese was the size of a small pancake and basically EZ cheese. Burger was cold, dry and salty. Chicken bites were extra hot and extra salty and spongy and microwave shocked. I took a few bites of everything then threw it all away. Everything was super small. Chocolate shake was off, kinda funky, can't explain how they screwed that up. No employees up front, just kiosks. Lastly, I ordered napkins and condiments but they were not in the bag.

Yelp
Highway Robbery.... My girl and I just spent $40 for two hilariously small burgers, two orders of Costco air fryer French fries and 2 cups of ice with a splash of Dr. Pepper. I've been to shake shack in Boston. It's delicious! Was happy to see they've expanded out here, but I'm offended by the pricing. They made the burgers smaller. I wish I would have taken a picture of the burgers but I never write reviews on yelp so I didn't think of it. Don't spend your money here. Go sit down at Islands and have a burger that's three times the size, tastes better, and you'll still have money left for a beer. I hope you read this and choose to eat elsewhere. It will give my wasted money some purpose. -Andrew

Yelp
3.5 a location closer to where we live. It's the same fanfare - good quality food but a bit pricey for what it is. Food: 1) Smokeshack double - 3.5 / 5. The meat has a nice crisp char, but lacked seasoning. Chopped cherry peppers and bacon don't have much flavor. The beef juices kinda ooze into the bun and make it soggy. 2) Shack Burger double - 4/5. Same issues as the smokeshack - overall lacked seasoning and the burger juices kinda sog up the bun. 3) cheese fries - 3/5. Cheese is bland - it lacks any real cheese flavor. Crinkle cut fries are nice and crispy and were seasoned well. Inside: Nice, but small. It's new so obviously gets points for the inside being well kept. The outside area is nice too, with more seating, though no heaters if it's chilly outside. What's nice about outside is it's next to a salad place so you could probably dine at both no prob if someone doesn't want shake shack.

Yelp
small greasy hamburgers made to mediocrity. confusion in the kitchen slows down the process at the expense of the customer. check it out...experience the rip off shake shack is. yeah.

Mike G.

Yelp
Could not order and pay on the App. We tried to use our promotional $5 gift cards and a new $100 gift card. The app accepted the card balances and showed a $0 due amount. Then tried to complete the transaction. "Oops" came back on the app. Tried 2 more times, including restarting the entire order. Each time failed. We gave up in frustration and ordered from another restaurant. No value here.

Corinne C.

Yelp
Underwhelmed with cheeseburger, wilted lettuce and soggy tomatoes. Presentation is poor. Chocolate shake only 3/4 of the way full.

Mincraft C.

Yelp
The burgers and shakes were pretty good. The shack burger had good flavor. The service was pretty fast for how many people were in there.

Yelp
My 1st time at a Shake Shack. The manager, Jacob, was very responsive and took full responsibility of my concerns. I'm not going to go into any detail about what was wrong. Shack should know they have a good manager at this store. I will visit them again soon.

Yelp
This place serves the best burgers around. The fries are very good. They are expanding their menu so you have a wider selection. A great place for burgers.

Yelp
Tasty burgers, portions are average for the price. Fries are also average. Good shakes!

Yelp
Underimpressed and over hyped . That being said I'm being harsh. This place is good , not great, but good. It was built up too high in my mind, expectations were not met. WTF Danny Meyer. I perhaps was underwhelmed because I expected more. To be specific, service was , no offense, juvenile and uncommitted. No body working there seemed to care . The burger was good, tasty, and overall delicious. The fries were extraordinarily crispy and delightful. I love crinkle cuts. The milk shake , mind you at a place with "shake"in the name, was between below average and average. Now we also got some chicken "nuggets"?, "tenders"?, "bites"? , those were the bigger disappointment . The chicken was good quality but below the breading between the chicken it was soft, soggy, and sticky. I got them for my niece. She can't speak, she's a baby, and she didn't like them. I tried them and like I said, the chicken was good but the breading was sticky and slipped right of when I grabbed them. It was the kind of breading that sticks to your fingers. So annoying! Burger was delicious, but by comparison, over priced . I didn't like the lettuce , I liked that they used Roma tomatoes, I liked the flavor but at the price point would prefer other options. Over all pleasantly underwhelmed, if that makes sense. Good but not that good

John O.

Yelp
Normally shake shack is great. This wa the worst. You could tell the employees didn't care. It was dirty. I rolled the dice and lost. Burger was soggy. Fries cold. Second batch was hot but old oil. Not changed. The cheese sauce was disgusting. Just all gross and when the employee brought me back my crappy order of second fries, I say thanks and he just scoffs. No words. Obviously didn't eat the cheese sauce or fries but unfortunately forced down half the burger. Carlsbad location is pathetic. Too bad.

Yelp
Love shake shack. Buns are soft and the ratio is perfect my kids love their nuggets too but u find it a little too heavy on the breading.

Yelp
I haven't eaten at Shake Shack since I went to NY over a decade ago! If I crave a burger, we usually make em at home or go to In N Out. I am surpised at how Shake Shack blew up and is literally everywhere - even the Philippines! We came to this location and ordered on the tablets - you can customize them and make each order exactly what you want and note your sauces. This location in in some fancy plaza I've never stopped in near La Costa. I was ready for the "sticker shock" for lunch! The portion was fine for me and filled me up, but my husband didn't like the so-so fries and messy burger. We grabbed so many napkins and it was good we were seated near the restrooms and could wash our hands. The regular lemonade tasted good, but the lemondae/tea with caffeine tasted a bit sour. At the end of the day, Shake shack has a good selection of items including burgers and chicken sandos. The fries could have been hotter, and the burgers could have been prepared so everything didn't fall out upon your first bite. You don't really get "customer service" so I don't buy into the hype or pricing. I have had better burgers at Hopdaddy or even Yard House! It was nice to check out this new plaza though there is a cafe and a butcher shop nearby. Head's up on a dessert BONUS - Jeni's ice cream is next door.

Yelp
The staff here are slow, inexperienced, and careless. The food took so long to put together, it was all cold. This used to be a special experience with quality food. It's just another fast food place now.

Yelp
the kitchen did not do a great job dressing our sandwiches. they were sloppy and hard to eat. the whole point of a bun is to make them portable and mine completely melted into the burger and not in a good way. made two trips to the counter for napkins. little grumpy my burger, a double BOURBON BACON CHEDDAR (white cheddar, bourbon bacon jam, and crispy shallots with lettuce, tomato, and bacon adds) was ordered medium-rare and arrived medium-well. i nearly never compare one restaurant's food to another, but I'm gonna make an exception here: as chicken sandwiches go, the Shake Shack CHICKEN SHACK does NOT measure up to the Popeye's, Crack Shack, KFC, or even Jack-in-the-Box versions. once you get past the sticker shock (the $8 shake came in a cup-sized cup), pretty okay burgers but for the price point, they should have been amazing. for a casual burger not even close to In-N-Out. for an upscale burger (which is how they're priced), Rookies, Hennesey's, and (on a good day) 7-Mile Kitchen are much better. fries were low average.

Yelp
First and last visit to Shake Shack I ordered the cheeseburger and a cup of tap water. Delivered to my table was the most basic looking burger, in hind sight I wish I would have taken a photo. For $8 I received a super cheap bun with a salty thin hamburger with cheese wrapped in a cheap hamburger paper sleeve/envelope. I expected lettuce, tomato, onion to go with the burger. NO nothing but a cheap bun, hamburger patty and cheese!!! Don't waste you money, I'm sad to say I feel totally ripped off.

Yelp
Yessss finally one in Carlsbad! I don't eat burgers often. I'm not a huge In-N-Out girl. I can pass on most fries. But Shake Shack has been a "thing" for years, and since it opened so close, I had to finally get in and figure out the hype. First off, I love the space. Great indoor-outdoor options with room to move around. With two kids, this is big for me. Self ordering stations make exploring the menu easy for newbies like me. The coordinating pics are also great - my son saw a yummy looking hot dog on the menu & was sold. Service is fast, everything is super fresh and made to order. I legit LOVED this burger. It's the perfect size, indulgent but not a grease-bomb, plus the cheesy crinkle cut fries are great too. We'll be back, a lot!

Yelp
This Shake Shack is well positioned just down the hill from the Tesla Superchargers. Nice! We came here one Saturday after a charge and came away really impressed. Everything was immaculate and the folks behind the counter were very friendly, in a good way. Now we've eaten in a few of these, in several different states and this might be the best - in terms of food prep, friendliness and the little extras the employees did to make you want to come back. One example, was a normal order of their fries. We went with the bacon & cheese version and were shocked by how much we were given. Incredible and over the top. Five Stars for service, friendliness, freshness of the food and simply over top extras.

Yelp
Over $20 for a burger, fries and a shake is ridiculous. Had a Shackburger with 2 patties was a greasy smashed burger.Could hardly see the tomatoes, maybe no onions and kinda wet lettuce. The small shake was ok but the whole thing wasn't worth over $20.

Yelp
Love it! We just enjoyed the veggie burger, some french fries, and a dairy, free milkshake. A home run! Shake shack never disappoints. We did a comparison with habit, Burger, which we brought with us. Shake shack wins again!
