Oh, Shake Shack. Literally every time I visited NYC, I wanted to try it out, but the line was always super busy. The Detroit location opened a few weeks ago, and we stopped by today since we were seeing a show at the Fox later on in the day.
First off, we ordered on the app, for 12:30pm pickup, since I had heard that normally the line is crazy long. We ended up arriving at the restaurant around 12:10pm, and surprise, there was no line. I asked if they could bump our time up but they said they could not, so we waited a bit for our food which was fine.
I ordered the cheeseburger minus the cheese, since I wanted to try the Shake Shack sauce, and my boyfriend ordered the barbecue burger. We also got two sides of fries and the salted caramel toffee milkshake to share. The bill was about $25 for all of that, and we had water with our meals instead of sodas. It's a bit pricey for what you get, especially considering the hamburgers are pretty small, but the food tasted very good and you could tell that the burgers were good quality as well.
The fries are crinkly fries which I really like, both those and the burger were a little salty for my taste but overall delicious. I will say that the Shake Shack sauce was not what I thought it would taste like, meaning I thought it would taste kind of like In-N-Out's sauce, but it was still good. The milkshake was fantastic and the highlight of our meal.
I will say I am not a fan of the bathroom situation here - there's ONE onesie stall (unisex) and you need a code to open it. I had to ask an employee to open it for me because they said the code would be on the bottom of my receipt, and because I ordered online, I didn't have a receipt.... I used the bathroom twice too and had to ask an employee both times to open it for me.
Aside from that, Shake Shack is a little pricey for what you get, but the food is great. I'll definitely be back at some point.
