Typically, a place like Shake Shack wouldn't cause me to bat my eye. I mean, it's shakes, fries, and burgers, which are really a dime a dozen. However, what does catch my attention and makes it stand out among the rest is the variety. Their offerings. When I saw a Tiramisu milkshake and burgers and fries that feature white truffle sauce...well I just HAD to go and check them out while I'm out on my monthly outing to Midtown.
Shake Shack is pretty clean and fairly large from the interior with ample amount of seating on the outside with some shade which I needed since I was on a Mommy n Me outing with my puppy Muffin (note: dogs are NOT allowed in the store like they are in a lot of places in the area, however, you can bring the dog inside just to order, but make sure you clarify with the friendly employees here, especially when I had Muffin in a stroller).
I had some trouble ordering from their self-serve kiosk, so I had to order in the front. The employees here were very nice and more than happy to help me. They even cooed at the puppy and asked me what her name was.
I was on a mission on what I was going to order. Normally, fries are not quite the star of the show, but when you add WHITE TRUFFLE PARMESAN sauce to the mix...well that changes everything, so that was what I got. I was not really in the mood for a burger since that was too heavy, even in a lettuce wrap, so I went with a six piece chicken bites meal. And of course, being that this was SHAKE shack, it would almost be sacrilegious not to get a shake, so I had to get one...the tiramisu shake of course! I sat outside with Muffin and my number and I wasn't long before the food came out. Right away, I could see I've made a good choice. The day was blistering hot, and I was sitting outside, so I dove in for the shake first. Good thing I did since it didn't take long for it to melt in the heat, but, it was cold and delicious to the last sip. It looked just like it did in the picture, down to the cocoa frosted whipped cream crowning it and the lady finger. The taste was spot on for tiramisu with the faint coffee flavoring mixed with cocoa, light, airy, and not overpowering of either component, it was very refreshing.
Next were the chicken bites. Admittedly, I had low expectations about them only because it's such a common food to get, but these were incredibly juice, well breaded and seasoned. I ordered them without sauce, but honestly, they didn't need any at all. Six was the perfect number of them to get since it filled me up, but did not leave me overstuffed.
My fries I saved for last. What can I say about the crinkle-cut fries that reminded me of the Ore-Ida fries you get at school cafeterias? They certainly didn't taste that way, crisp and flavorful on their own even without the sauce. The sprinkle of parmesan gave it the right touch. Their crispness made them the perfect vessel for the white truffle sauce, the REAL reason I got the fries, but nonetheless the fries were good on their own. The sauce did not disappoint. I had plenty to dip my plentiful fries in, and it had that strong truffle flavoring that I enjoy and crave. Not sure if this will be a permanent menu item, so I thought I'd get my hands on it while I still can!
