Yelp
Shake Shack started out in New York as a hot dog food cart. I first became aware of them in San Diego, and I would compare them frequently with The Crack Shack on Kettner Blvd in San Diego.
The Shake Shack in Nashville is a tad bit less fun than The Crack Shack, as this restaurant is at the airport. In San Diego, Crack Shack's eating area has a fun open concept, being mostly outdoors. Complete with games such as cornhole and lots of Astro-turf to play on, the SD location makes for a fun outing, especially when it's sun shiny outside. You won't find that here in Nashville's Shake Shack, but you will still find tasty sandwiches.
The types of food fare at the Shake Shack are typical fast-food that have upgraded twists: Fried Chicken Sandwiches, Flat-Top Grilled Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Cheeseburgers, Veggie Burgers, including a sweet potato-based version and a Portobello Mushroom-based Burger, Crinkle-Cut French Fries, a Breakfast Sandwich menu, and Signature Hand-spun Shakes and Floats.
I mostly go for nothing other than the Chicken Sandwich, and crave them often. On a whole, I would rate Shake Shack as one of the --if not THE best Chicken Sandwiches --above Chick-fil-A and McDonald's.
The Shake Shack Chicken Sandwich consists of a lean and tender cut of chicken breast meat. The breast is breaded, then deep fried very crisply. You should add BOTH the special Buttermilk Herb Mayo Sauce and Signature Shake Sauce. Don't forget the fresh lettuce and pickles. You also can add tomatoes and onion. You can't get a much tastier chicken sandwich in my opinion.
On my Hamburger-as-a-choice days, I'll make it a classic cheeseburger, then add Shake Sauce, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Simple but tasty. It's a better hamburger than McDonald's, proven by Shake Shack's sales: Shake Shack brings in DOUBLE the revenue than the McDonald's brand does.
The Crinkle-Cut Fries are only good hot and fresh out of the fryer! Get them either plain, with cheese sauce, or as bacon-cheese fries. Bacon is crisp Applewood smoked. Although I don't eat Hot Dogs, Shake Shack's are done on a flat-top grill. The Hot Dogs are made from 100% Vienna Beef from Chicago.
The Hand-Spun Shake flavors are: Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry and Black & White. Floats are Root Beer and Creamsicle. I'm not really impressed with the Shakes here, they seemed flavorless whenever I've tried them. Other drinks are an assortment of Homemade Lemonades, Coke, Sprite Southern Root Beer and others.
The breakfast menu, not surprisingly, is very similar to most fast food chains, with one big difference: Shake Shack manages to bring in a healthy 'Egg White Light Sandwich' very well. On the one occasion I had it, the sandwich consisted of griddled egg whites, which was topped with cheddar cheese, arugula, and Signature Shack Breakfast Sauce. The cheddar cheese made it stand out as a stronger flavor. I enjoyed it as a diversion from their Bacon Egg & Cheese Biscuit, which was similar to McDonald's. They also have Tots to go along with their breakfast.
This location has a few problems, such as no one takes their job too seriously, but the sandwich hasn't disappointed me yet.
