Shake Shack Westfield UTC

This was our first time ordering online, and unfortunately, the burgers we received looked nothing like what was advertised. Additionally, we specifically ordered a sandwich without bacon, but it was included, leaving one person without dinner due to religious dietary restrictions. On top of that, all the utensils and condiments were missing as well. To make matters worse, when we called to address our concerns, the manager didn’t take the time to hear our complaints. Instead, an employee simply told us that someone would call us tomorrow, which felt dismissive and unhelpful. Given the premium price being charged, the quality of food and level of service do not reflect the standards we expected.

My sons grilled cheese is flat and gross looking. It’s nothing like what you see in the picture online. We took a picture for everybody to see. People are just hanging around, not doing much slow service. Would not recommend very overpriced.

This establishment allows dogs to sit on dining room chairs and booths in the inside and outside dining rooms. I imagine that is a violation of health codes, but the employees did not seem to care. One positive note: I love their chocolate shakes. They use actual chocolate ice cream and NOT vanilla with chocolate syrup.

Horrible burgers, they gave a burned burger and I asked for a burger that is not burned and they gave me a super burned like chewing on charcoal and was choking on it, they need a manager desperately, the shake shack at Del Mar know how to make them

I thought the Shack Burger at this SS location was maybe not quite up to standard of the other locations I've tried. Meat was a little dry and overall the sandwich lacked the usual appeal. Still a good burger though perhaps a little small for what most people are looking for. Fries were good. The lemonade was too intensely sweet for my taste and I didn't finish it. This location is very attractively decorated but could use a deep clean. The wide spaces between the slats of the benches were filthy and gross. Bathroom was very clean, however, and staff were friendly and helpful.

I used to live near UTC mall in La Jolla so I visited this Shake Shake location a couple times. I have ordered a Shack Burger (Angus beef cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun), fries (crinkle cutl) and herb mayo. I've also ordered Cheese Fries on its own as well. The food is a bit pricey but the quality is always really nice. I haven't tried a shake but I need to soon, make the Cookies and Cream one next.

This visit today was no different than any other visit I have had at this location every time my family and I come here. It was such an excellent experience!! The place is so clean. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Today my daughter and I dined in and I had mistakenly ordered my burger without a gluten-free bun and they were so kind and just immediately made me one with a gluten-free bun and brought it to our table. I didn’t have to leave the table and I sat with my daughter. I was also given a free refill with my root beer and I didn’t even have to go up and ask for the refill. They did that for me from my table. Ron was such a helpful person today as were two other employees, but I did not catch their names. Again every time we have visited this location they give us top-tier service and it is a wonderful location to eat at. We will keep coming back. Thank you!

As I engulf my Avocado Bacon Chicken sandwich with bacon cheese fries, I hear a passer-by say to her friend, "OMG that burger looks so good." Yes, it really is :) I often come here with the kiddos and pups for their shakes and/or treats. It's nice to detour and have some alone time w/ a hefty meal. The sandwich wasn't super hot -so if I take the food home I will usually reheat for 15 seconds. But this time I just wanted to eat it on the spot, so the temperature was a trade-off. The workers here are always friendly and work very hard. They will hook me up with a side of shack sauce upon request.

1 star because the shakes are good. Minus 3 stars for service as our shakes sat on the counter until I got up to get them myself, despite requesting table delivery on the options. I can see the shakes sitting on the counter, a worker look at the order and decide not to bring them out. Lazy! Why work here if you don't want to work? Added 1 star for ambiance because they play boywithuke in their playlist

The food tasted great! I ordered a Shack Stack and the BBQ Cheese Fries. Insanely good. There was plenty of seating. There was a team member walking around picking up trash and clearing trays. Our food was brought to our table which was nice.

Shake was good, the staff on July 20th 4:55pm were inconsiderate and useless. My shake sat on the counter for 6 minutes (I watched it) before I got up and got it myself.

Shake Shack burgers have a special place in my heart; their flavor and quality are unmatched. However, the popularity of these delightful burgers often leads to crowded spaces and a scarcity of seats. This can make the experience of dining in less than ideal, as finding a place to sit and enjoy your meal comfortably can be quite the task amidst the bustling atmosphere.

The service was great but not sure if their burgers are worth how much it costs.... A bit greasy and small patties.

Easy to order either through their kiosk or at the counter. The staff was really nice and welcoming. Minus 1 star due to the cleanliness of the patio. We had our dog with us, so we opted to sit in the patio, but there was a lot of food scraps and napkins on the floor in the patio, as well as the tables looked like they needed to be wiped down. We had to get some wipes to clean our table that was really sticky. Now the food we ordered: - Single Shack burger. It was nicely assembled and tasty. I would have preferred it included more lettuce in the burger. - Single Smoke shack burger, it was juicy and the cherry peppers added a nice kick. -Spicy Korean BBQ fries, they were so crispy, but I wanted to have more of the kimchi seasoning. The side of Korean bbq sauce was very nice and added some extra boldness instead of plain ketchup - Plain fries, they were so crispy and delicious

I ended up eating here regardless of the other cool options around. Not that I'm at this mall less often. Perhaps it's the self order counter ;) Staff here is as cool as the customers including myself are. We like ourselves a good burger with waffle fries and a shake. It's all here. Sit in patio or inside, burgers tastes the same!

Food: Ordered two spicy burgers & spicy fries & regular fries. They were juicy and delicious, lived the perfectly fried fries, crispy outside, soft inside & well seasoned. Service: used the iPad to order but when I went to pick up food, there was a smiling staff member asking if I needed anything else. Ambiance: Modern, super casual. Clean inside the dining area, but bathroom was super dirty. Price: $8.99 each for burger. Spicy fries, $4.89 & regular fries $4.09

Something is up at this location. The last time I was here, it was crazy busy and the food came out really really slow. They messed up my order by forgetting an item, but they fixed it once i pointed it out. Tonight, the wait was long again. Both at the register and in my order coming out. I know the girl at the register was training, and it took her a while to figure it out as she took my order, so can't fault her for that. The food itself was also off. I ordered fried with cheese sauce on the side. Both cold. I ordered a double shack burger with cherry peppers. My wife ordered a shack burger with pickles. Both came out lukewarm. There was little to no shack sauce on either (I had to go ask for more - and it was also cold). My burger was falling apart - the bun was split and the toppings were spilling out. My wife's pickles were all stacked on top of eachother at the front of the burger. It looked like it was all just sloppy and rushed - which made no sense since the tables weren't full, there were no lines, and the food took a while to come out. We go to shake shack everywhere and rarely run into issues. I think in the 10+ years and dozens of locations I've been too, this is perhaps only the 3rd time I've encountered issues. Usually Shake Shack runs a very very tight ship. Whoever is in charge of this location really needs to fix it up.

We came on a weeknight and parked by the Crate and Barrel - a bit of a walk over. We ordered at the kiosk and got an Avocado Burger w/gluten-free bun and no onions, Double Burger, Cheese Fries, and Chocolate Shake. The total was around $35. Make sure to click Edit on your item and then Customize in order to add lettuce, change buns, or remove onions! We sat inside at a booth, and we got our food fast. Service was good. All of the food was good. The gluten-free bun is potato and really good. The cheese they use on the fries is polarizing - some people love it and some people (me) think there's something alien about it but can't quite put their finger on it. This location is very light and airy and spacious. Lots of tables but well-spaced. They have their own bathrooms inside! (No need to go look for a mall bathroom.) I think this is one of the better places to eat if you're at this mall.

Price point is greater than to the serving size of their burgers Avo bacon burger tastes good but nothing to write home about . Note to avocado lovers like myself , they use an avocado spread. Not the real thing. Disappointing ! A fast food joint in the mall. Inside and patio seating . Inside gets crowded. No thought put into the design of eating comfortably. I prefer the patio seating . Service is standard. You order and pay . You eat in, get a number and the food gets brought to your seat. Note to self. They don't take cash tips. So if you want to leave a tip, you have to do that at the time you pay, not after .

Love SS! Can't go wrong with anything here but my favorites are the classic ShackBurger with crinkle fries and a milkshake!

Visited the mall to shop around and didn't realize there was a Shake Shack here! Upon arrival, everything was self served where you can order off an iPad. There was also a general cashier as well in case you needed assistance / the line got long. There was one employee here who was super nice and went around helping everyone order and sharing his input on what is good. I enjoyed how proactive he was with customers and his customer service was amazing! Thank you! I am so happy they have GF bread!!!! I was so excited when I saw that. My burger was delicious and the kids enjoyed their food as well. The chicken nuggets were ok, nothing fancy or special there. Just your tulle fries and nuggets. There is plenty of seating here. From outside to indoor, it's your choice. The staff is really good at keeping everything tidy and tables are spacious and seating as well. Overall great location.

Even if at the end of the day, I think I'm still Team In-N-Out, a Shake Shack burger still totally hits the spot! This location is located in the UTC Mall in La Jolla. The mall can get busy but they have great service and move quickly. You can order from the tablets or at the cashier. The shack burger is always my favorite paired with crinkly crispy fries. The server who brought our food out to us was so delightful and so friendly! I also really appreciated how attentive they were to cleanliness and someone was quick to wipe down tables as people were moving in and out.

Shake Shack burgers and fries always hit the spot! Fries were cooked to the perfect crisp, and burgers had extremely fresh ingredients! My only gripe is that it seems a bit overpriced-- 3 burgers and 2 fries cost me $42 (In-N-Out would have cost me a lot less, haha). Definitely worth it once in a while as a special treat! This location provided really quick service as well as a large inside and outside dining area. Seems like this location is run pretty well...

I've heard people rave about Shake Shack and I accidentally walked into it after a long hike out at Torrey Pines on this day. This day was my first time to visit Westfield UTC in over 7 years - it took a lot to get me back to my favorite mall but I'm glad I overcame what held me back. I used to eat at the Red Robin here, but the gentleman who helped me at the counter told me all the Red Robins in San Diego closed and the nearest was now in Encinitas. Goodness how things change! This day, the long 4-mile hike at Torrey Pines State Park deserved a solid meal! And I got one here today. I went for the roadside double, my friend ordered the same. And ditto on the mango passionade. Only needed one order of fries. I wish I had one do-over - their shakes really do look awesome! Maybe next time I'll pick one up! I will say the mango beverage was very good and I'd order it again. I saw the burger as mostly basic. It was a double cheeseburger with Dijon mustard and grilled onions as advertised! I really believe the magic here lies in the shakes. I would say that next time I visit I'll order a shake in hopes that I can raise my review to five stars! But as for the burger and fries, I did not see where they stood out in relation to other good burger shops, but I certainly would visit a Shake Shack again. This shop is well-positioned at UTC, being near the theater. Certainly theater-goers take advantage of that. The seating area is trendy and well-placed. It has a nice full patio seating area too. I would have loved to sit out there, but I had enough of the outdoors on this day! Service was sound and courteous - I came! I ordered! I ate!! And then left a happy man! Recommend: HIGH

TL;DR: Came knowing the price-point compared to true fast-food burger joints so wasn't hit with sticker shock. Always opt for the mushroom burger - if you want ground beef, you're in CA so just go to in-n-out Disclaimer: this review is for the mushroom burger only I've had shake shack elsewhere (east coast, vegas, etc) and have probably tried most of the burgers...and have been immediately let down. The mushroom burger though? Never misses. I have a love hate relationship with Shake Shack. On one hand the food is really good and consistent but on the other hand, prices are on the higher side for a tiny burger and finding a hair in my food really ruined my experience. Service was okay, tables are a bit dirty upon arrival. I'm a bit traumatized and probably won't come back for a long time.

Paid for our food at 7:44 and waited about 20 minutes before asking for our food. The skinny kid in a green and black bandana said it's coming out (assuming the kid is a server). Waited another 20 minutes to ask again and thankfully the people in the kitchen were kind to me and said they'll "refire" my order. Finally came to us 50 minutes later. Despite the long wait time I kindly thanked him. Still, this kid pissed me off. No eye contact, no "you're welcome," absolutely no words of exchange. I also didn't get my herb mayo and the long wait time made me pay for parking. Just for the kindness I received from the kitchen is what made me decide to give a 2 star rather than 1.

There is a girl with a long back braid that is blond and black. Very pretty. I was watching her during my meal giving the best service i have seen in a while. She needs a raise!

Food was average. Service was average. And they bothered me while I was eating at my table for a review online. The food was rather expensive too for what you get. Was cool to try but between the prices to quality ratio and the dirty building I won't be going back.

We have been coming to shake shack for quite some time so it was pretty disturbing to have had such horrible customer service. Walked in today about 7:15pm, waited in line for three groups in front of us to get their order taken. When it came to be our turn the "supposed manager" told us we had to use the kiosk to order because she was closing down to help the kitchen. She continued to argue after we told her that we wanted to get our order taken at the register, she said she couldn't take cash. Why, just because she didn't want to. We asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the manager. We asked her what her name was and she said she couldn't give it to us. She continued to just walk back and forth from the front to the back without actually doing anything but look around. She just refused to take our order. To whomever the real managers are, I highly suggest you look into the people you have in charge. If this person is seriously the "manager", you should really reconsider. One last note. There should always be one register open.

My food was okay, but it took super long. The ordering tablet was super bad, it made us restart twice. The only good part about shake shack is how it is in UTC mall. A couple more things I would say to NOT recommend this place is that there is always crying children and not enough variety of options for sauce. The last thing that really tops this bad place off is that the price is insane, for a burger with two patties and a bun it was 10 dollars! And they did not even follow the order correctly.

I was disappointed in my order, they forgot to put lettuce and tomato on my hamburger. Staff are really rude when you ask for utensils or straws because they forget to give to you .

I have been to shake shack in NY & when it first arrived in LA. The price was reasonable, the portion was good and the quality of food was good. I know why the stock is over $60. Because they shrink the portion and raise the price. The chicken sandwich and the burger were the sizes of a slider, almost the same size as a white castle. For 2 sandwiches, bacon fries, and 2 drinks. It was almost $50. I could have purchased a dozen white castles and a couple of in-n-out with fries, chocolate shakes and got some change back. The price is too steep for a burger lunch expense. I place my kid's little TV remote for comparison to the sandwich. Sorry shake shack, I'm going to in-n-out.

It was meh food in the first place, but now that they don't take cash it's really not worth it. So yeah be aware, they don't take cash.

This was the first time I've ever eaten at a shake shack. The CHICKENSUNDAY free chicken sandwich got my attention ruin so I thought we'd give it a try. It was nice to have one for free after spending $10 on an order. We got a regular chicken Sandwich and a Korean fried chicken sandwich. The presentation was sloppy and messy not in a good way. Just rushed. The size was much smaller than I expected. The original Chicken sandwich was swimming in herb mayo -disgusting (especially when I asked for it on the side). Very boring and almost tasteless. The Korean chicken sandwich had better flavor but was also falling apart and small. I appreciate the free offer but I would not go back again and at 1/2 price with a coupon I would not go back. Sorry shake shack.

I have been to several Shake Shack branches, but Gladys's service is in a league of its own. Her professional and efficient service turns every meal into a delightful experience. Shake Shack is very lucky to have someone like Gladys on their team. She sets a high standard for customer care and hospitality.

First time trying Shake Shack, this location is beautiful in the open air mall - lots of room both inside and outside to sit. When we went on saturday afternoon it was understandably very busy with a line almost out the door. We didn't have to wait too long though service was quick. We tried the Shackuburger and another type of burger with bacon and avocado and some chocolate custard. We wanted to try the newly advertised Dreamsicle shake but they were all out. The burgers were tasty, but very small - almost like sliders, and the buns are extremely soft. I thought they were kind of like those hawaiian rolls at first. This can make for a soggy experience if you have a lot of toppings or sauce on the burger itself. The bread isn't quite toasted or firm enough for my liking. The frozen custard was delicious, so smooth and creamy and different from a traditional ice cream. I'm very glad we got to experience this chain but with so many burger joints around, it doesn't sit at the top of my list.

THESE BURGERS DONT MISS! Shake Shack is more than a burger joint, it's an experience of a life time! The customer service is ALWAYS amazing! It's usually not a long wait to receive your food but if you happen to wait, it's so worth it! The Hot Ones collab is so good, I need excuse to go back and eat at shake shack multiple days in a row! It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, it was just right! The Hot Ones fires were also AMAZING! Everything pairs so well! I recommend washing it down with a lemonade too! I can't wait to go back and I recommend everyone to try these burgers!

Love their chicken sandwiches but way too overpriced for the amount of food you get. I purchased two chicken sandwiches ( one for me and one for my daughter) we shared an order of fry's (one size only) and two drinks and it came to $29!! Yikes!! I was hungry an hour later! :(

DoorDash some Shake Shack. I always order Shack Stake burger, I love their buns it reminded me of the Hawaiian bread that you can get at the grocery store. It comes with crispy mushroom, tomato, lettuce. Their white cheese in the burger is so good and it nice and melty. The chicken shack is pretty descent, I'm just a little sad they didn't give me any shake sauce on the side like they usually do. Crinkle fries are really good, salted perfectly and crispy.

It was my first ever and will definitely not be my last. Super friendly staff and the place is kept clean!

Never get a specialty burger from shake shack. I feel that the pricing for this food is over the top. There is nothing particularly great about this food so I think they are charging 40% too much.

Straight forward fast food burgers and fries. The food is good, but not sure I can get past the high prices. Or is it just what food cost now a days? Could it be higher since it's at UTC Mall? I don't know since I haven't been to any other locations. You can place your order at the counter or use the kiosks they have available. There was a line for kiosk so we ordered at the counter which is usually quicker. The service was fast, didn't have to wait too long for our food and the place was clean. We were surprised at how many people there were as it was a Friday after 3PM, well after the lunch rush. Again, we enjoyed the food, but $47 for lunch seemed steep - 3 burgers, bacon cheese fries, 2 French fries and a chocolate shake, no sodas just free water. 4 stars for taste, 3 stars for value.

Shake Shack has become my go-to for a burger and fries when I have a craving and I'm at UTC! The restaurant is always busy which is a great sign they are doing everything right! The line always moves quickly and the staff is efficient. As busy as they are, the place is always clean and the staff is super friendly! The food is fresh and cooked very well. I think my favorite part of the burger is the bun! It's so soft and sweet. The meat is always cooked perfectly and the avocado just the right ripeness. Next time you pass by, stop in, you won't regret it!

Legit an overpriced wendy's everything from the patty to the bacon on the burger, the fries, the cheese on the fires taste just wendy's i'm extremely upset i feel like i just payed $50 for wendy's quality food. They get an extra star because the avocado was pretty fresh but that's not hard to do.

It's decent burger. Nothing special except the bun, which are pretty good. Crinkle fries- check. Shakes- check. Chicken burger -check. This location has been over run by mall shoppers with their poorly behaved children. It's a good thing they sell overpriced beer and wine.

I love Shake Shack. We have a handful locations up near LA, but they're not easy for me to get to so I make it a point to have it in SD (ironic I know). This location is just so easily accessible! On my last trip to SD (and even the trip before this) I had it two times (over a weekend. Please don't judge me). My go to order is the Shack Stack, fries and a custard. It hits the spot every time. Nothing beats the fried mushroom in this burger. As a seasonal item right now they have buffalo seasoned fries. I somehow failed to see the buffalo on top of the word seasoned, and didn't know they were buffalo seasoning. Needless to say they are quite spicy lol. If you aren't a huge fan of buffalo, I would say skip this. I also had the blood orange lemonade which tasted way more lemony than a mash up of the two. Would also skip. This location has both a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Service is also pretty fast. You line up, place your order and take it to go or take a number to bring to your table and they come right out with your food. Everyone here was really friendly, and the service was great. If you love Shake Shack or haven't yet tried it - this location is awesome! I can't wait to go back to SD to eat Shake Shack!

Second time ever eating shake shack, the Korean fried chicken sandwich gave me food poisoning... I know it was that for sure because it was the only thing I ate all day. Server was super nice too so I was hoping for good things.

It's not as good as new york. It's also overpriced. But, I still crave shake shack here and there. Props.

My sibs and I came here on a Friday night around 7:30pm. GUESS WHAT. NO LINE. That's honestly a first for me. Usually the line is going out the door and around the railings on the weekends so I was pleasant surprised as we walked right up to the counter. Well actually my sis and I decided to sit down first at the patio (plenty of open tables) since she brought her dog. Our mans ordered us some nuggies and fries while they got themselves some burgers. Although you would think this location is inconvenient bc it's inside of a mall, URTTTT. I actually love that I can walk around before/after I eat. Anyways, back for the food: the fries- crispy and crunchy Nuggies: tasty, meaty. Didn't try the burger this time but usually they are super yummy plus that shack sauce mmMMmMm. It was really casual and relaxed outside. The staff are also pretty nice but honestly they gotta get a PA system or number display cuz the staff walked around twice and totally missed our table/number, we ended up chasing them down. Ha!

Food was impeccable, and every time i come by to buy a quick snack or a family dinner, the service is beyond amazing. They are very attentive and very friendly, always with a smile and amazing conversations. Always a great time eating here, thank you Shake shack!

Good burgers, but way too expensive - My wife had never been to Shake Shack, and for me, it had been well over two decades. I will say, the burgers tasted absolutely great and the (kiosk) ordering process was very simple and fast. However....the price.... With just being me and my wife eating and walking out after spending well over sixty dollars, I do not think we will make a return to Shake Shack. For that cost, even at today's prices, I would expect to get more - we simply had two burgers, two fries (yes, with cheese), and two drinks. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." I agree, but, I do expect more than a couple "burger meals" for that amount spent (even though, as said before, the burgers were really good).
