A Mexican Mainstay in Bethesda — And More Closures in November | Eater DC

"After a 2-year run near the 9:30 Club, this LGBTQ+ bar will serve its last drink on Sunday, November 23. Known for its signature imported red cocktail shaker that inspired the name, it became popular for drag shows and events, offered a back patio for schmoozing, and even let guests order in food from next-door dive Whitlow’s. Owners Daniel Honeycutt and Justin Parker said they made the difficult decision to close and look forward to spending more time with their toddler. Bar veteran Keaton Fedak will take over the space, turning it into a new LGBTQ+ venture and, for now, plans to host private parties there through the winter." - Tierney Plumb

Google
Shakers is hands down one of the best bars in D.C. The atmosphere is always lively but never overwhelming — everyone just seems genuinely happy to be there. The staff are incredibly friendly, quick, and attentive, even on the busiest nights. Drinks are strong, well-made, and reasonably priced for how good they are. The drag shows are phenomenal — full of talent, humor, and heart — and the crowd is always supportive and fun. You can tell the place really values community and creating a space where everyone feels welcome. It’s the kind of spot that keeps you coming back again and again because it just feels good to be there.

Shakers is one of my favorite bars in DC. The space is one of the largest out of all the gay bars and can accommodate whatever vibe you are looking for. The Saturday night drag show is the best in DC. Don’t miss it!

Google
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Shakers, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best gay bars I’ve ever been to! The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and vibrant, making it easy to feel right at home. The staff were friendly and attentive, always making sure everyone was having a great time. They have a fantastic drink menu with creative cocktails that are both delicious and well-priced. The entertainment is top-notch! From drag shows to live music nights, there's always something fun happening at Shakers. I particularly loved the energy during the drag performances; the performers were incredibly talented and brought so much joy to the crowd. The crowd itself is diverse and friendly, creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels accepted and celebrated. I left with a smile on my face and a desire to return as soon as possible! If you’re looking for a fun night out, great drinks, and a welcoming community, Shakers is the place to be. Highly recommend!

Google
If you’re looking for a fun night out, it’s Shakers for the win. The vibe is fun and easygoing, and the staff really make you feel welcome. The drinks are always solid—tasty, well-made, and reasonably priced. What really stood out, though, were the weekend drag shows. The queens are fantastic—funny, energetic, and just a joy to watch. They kept the crowd entertained from start to finish. All in all, Shakers is a great spot if you’re looking for a good night out with good people, good drinks, and some top-notch entertainment. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Google
I was introduced to Shakers by a really good friend, and I must say it didn't disappoint! I don't go to many clubs, but Shakers is definitely one that I keep on my rolodex and also where I recommend to visitors in town. The music keeps you on the floor or at least doing a little shake where you stand. The staff are very accommodating and welcoming to guests, and the bartenders are unmatched! Good drinks, amazing drag shows, friendly environment... You can't go wrong!

Google
Shakers DC is honestly one of the best spots in the city. The service is always super fast and the staff is really friendly and welcoming. The bartenders are top-notch — respectful, professional, and just cool people all around. You can tell they care about making sure everyone has a good time. Great vibes, great drinks, and just an all-around solid place to hang out. Definitely a go-to spot for me in DC!

Yelp
I love any bar that has drag, dancing and cocktails and Shakers fits the bill. There are a lot of events for the community to enjoy. Often there are discounted rail drinks but they have a full cocktail bar in the back which is a huge plus for me. It is also a very pretty bar, it is more mid-century modern than cavernous nightclub which sets it apart from other bars in the area.

Yelp
So much fun! I got a simple amaretto sour and it was fantastic. We went to a drag show and it was a lot of fun. I want to come back and try the actual shaker drinks.

Yelp
Very inclusive bar with events all week - karaoke, drag, etc. The back atrium is really nice for a big group. The back patio is small but probably super nice in the summer. Drinks were good but there is no HH. Plenty of bathrooms. Seems like they could use some more bartenders but overall the lines moved. There is no step to get into the bar and it's very open for mobility. LGBTQ+ bar!

Yelp
Great bartenders and vibe. Patio is super nice. Great drink specials too. Near lots of places.

Yelp
If I could give this bar a zero, I would. I want to be clear, every drag queen that performed tonight was professional and entertaining. Some random-I won't even dignify her with the title of a drag queen because she provided zero entertainment and decided to intimidate me because I was on the stage-pulled one of the staff(a woman with curly hair and piercings). Despite the fact the staffer saw me at the bar the whole night, she decided it was appropriate for a full grown man to intimidate me. I was at the bar from 10:30-1:50 buying drinks for a friend's birthday, and she decided that I was the threat against a full grown man. She took zero consideration to embarrassingly pull me outside. This is the treatment you get from being threatened as a woman from a 200+ pound man. Disgusting.
