Shalhoob's - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Shalhoob’s is a family-run butcher shop/restaurant that’s been in the Funk Zone for over 40 years. While we fully recommend ordering their packaged meats for your at-home feast, their sprawling patio is a great place to hang out, drink some beer, and enjoy SB’s endless sunshine. The patio has its own menu and we love the burger, tri-tip, or fried chicken sandwich. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Shalhoob's Funk Zone Patio

Google
Stopped in our way home to Vancouver Canada. Cute little patio lunch spot. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious. The sign of a good sandwich/burger is of it falls apart in your hand. And it did! Will definitely recommend and visit again 🇨🇦

Google
Hands-down, the best barbecue I have ever had! Absolutely amazing flavor, quality and service. Everything on the menu is amazing and WORTH the price. We drive over two hours just to come to dinner at Shalhoob’s!

All around A+. The happy hour value is UNBELIEVABLE. Some of the best happy hour food I’ve ever encountered post covid. $7 for a giant bbq sandwich that blew us all away, madness, this is a steal. Avocado salad with broccoli that would convert any carnivore, a precious memory I’ll never forget. $7 margs that made me one happy mom, thank you for your service. Crew was outstanding. Outdoor seating with ample shade, a real treat. If I lived closer, I’d be coming here weekly. This is one of the best family friendly restaurants I’ve visited in years. So thrilled I found this gem!

Google
Nice spot in the Funk Zone. The food was good and fresh, great for a relaxed break. Service was okay. Loved the hibiscus margarita — fresh and original! They had a happy hour from 1 to 5 PM, which was great value for the price. A solid place to grab a drink and a bite in a pleasant atmosphere.

Google
Stumbled upon this place randomly while visiting Santa Barbara and was very pleasantly surprised by everything. Food was very tasty, the service was friendly, and the location and ambiance were pretty good. It helped that they are dog-friendly as well. Highly recommend the bbq chicken and the nachos.

Stopped here for a quick lunch on the way up north. We ordered the pork ribs, tri-tip, and mac&cheese. Food and staff were great. Be prepared to wait as it can get busy, but service was fast.

Google
Food...was...excellent. I grew up in SB and remembered this place prior to it having the patio/dining area. In fact, while in elementary school at one time we actually had a field trip to the butch shop to learn how they processed meat. With the ultimate goal to live out some nostalgia, my wife and I decided to check it out for lunch and were extremely glad that we did. The service and food was wonderful. My wife had the Shalhoob burger and fries while I tried the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. In addition we also ordered the mac & cheese with added fried chicken chunks; which was simply unbelievable. Loved the food, enjoyed the ambiance, appreciated the friendly staff. Will definitely be going again on our next visit to SB.

Google
After seeing this on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, I just had to follow in my man Guy Fieri's footsteps and I wasn't disappointed. Pulled pork sandwich with fries - bangin'. Blonde beer - thirst quenching. Mango margarita - delicious. Looking and smelling what other people were having made my mouth water. Go to Shalhoob's and get some good BBQ food.

Yelp
I stopped by to try some of their drinks and they did not disappoint. I tried their vanilla soft serve with tequila and it was the perfect blend of sweet and strong!! I also tried their spiked horchata with rum but I wish the horchata flavor was more strong and had more of the flavor. Service was very friendly especially since the employee was just starting and she was very helpful in answering our questions! They have lots of outdoor seating as well and have seating for larger parties too.

Yelp
Haven't been to Shalhoobs since they closed their public market location because their other locations did not have the smash burger on the menu. Was in the area so decided to give them a try after it was announced on Instagram that they were bringing it back, and we had high hopes as the public market location was one of the best smash burgers in town. I was so underwhelmed and disappointed with this experience. 2 smash burgers, 2 drinks and 1 fry came out to around $45. It definitely felt like false advertising because the burgers we received were just as thick as a normal burger. I think they are under the impression they can burn a normal burger and call it a smash burger? The burgers lacked any real flavor and both the bun and patty were burnt. The fries were just ok, honestly pretty salty. No pickles were served with our burgers and those were standard at public market location. Quick and friendly service. I did find it strange that on a chilly night they did not have any of the heat lamps going as it is exclusively outdoor seating. Likely will not be back any time soon as there are many great restaurants in the funk zone who have perfected their smash burgers and the price here is steep for what we received.

Yelp
We arrived in Santa Barbara just in time for dinner. After checking into the Riviera Beach House we walked around the Funk Zone and decided to eat at Shalhoobs. We ordered burgers, fries, a tri-tip sandwich and a ridiculous amount of beer. My husband swore that he just ate the best tri-tip sandwich he's ever had! I thought my burger was just average, nothing special about it. The picnic tables could've used a good cleaning, but thankfully I had my trusty wipes on me. As a germaphobe, I also don't appreciate the utensils being readily available for any child (or gross adult) to touch. Plenty of other restaurants to try in this area, so undecided if we'll return.

Yelp
Great service and great outdoor seating! Love the tri tip!!! Service is awesome as well!!

Yelp
Shalhoob's has delicious beer and food and awesome deals on weeknights. We came on a Monday evening and got the fried chicken sandwich, loaded fries, and the hazy beer. All were so tasty and superrrrr affordable. Definitely the best deal for weekday bites in the Funk Zone! Great vibes and strong heaters as well!
google avatar

Rich K.

Yelp
Decent fried chicken sandwich but not stellar. Price? 18.60. Add in tip and tax and you have sped past $20 and are still hungry.
google avatar

Liam N.

Yelp
Food is good. Happy hour a little misleading with the hours on the weekend. Aaron is so chill, Imani and Shelby are cool too. Service really cool.
google avatar

Gabrielle S.

Yelp
Went here for dinner during the week and it was calm, not a long wait time. There's quite a few seating options, all outside. For food we got the pulled pork sandwiches and a salad. The salad was pleasantly delicious as the broccoli and avocado paired so well! The pulled pork sandwich was HUGE! I wouldn't mind going here again for dinner.

Yelp
First time at Shalhoob's and I loved their Mac & cheese! All their appetizers are so delicious they could be meals on their own. We had street corn, wings, the meatball looking things, falafels, fries, Mac & cheese and chips. My group enjoyed their alcoholic beverages while I sipped my Arnold Palmer. It was a $5 drink but they have free refills so I was happy with that. Lots of seating available and dog friendly, they also have games too.
google avatar

Thalia R.

Yelp
Great spot for lunch in the funk zone. Parking right out front is usually taken but you can park anywhere in the funk zone and it's just a short walk. Lots of great food and drink options on the menu. You order at the counter and they bring out the food to your seat. Family style seating outdoors which is great for a warm day with friends. I got the burger and fries and a Diet Coke which comes in a mini glass bottle!! The lunch was good but it did take a very long time to get my food. I noticed that the 2 groups behind me in line got their food before me so after waiting a long while I had to inquire about my burger. Enjoy :)

Yelp
Beautiful day with nice breeze. Good and drinks were great and so was the service. I highly recommend coming here to eat!

Yelp
I get the little gem salad, add fried chicken, as a wrap and it is amazing. I definitely recommend this spot.

Yelp
Let me just start off by saying the Mac truly is all that! When we got our food, it smelled waaaayy too good not to sample it before taking the picture. My only regret was not getting another Mac n cheese to go. We also ordered the Cota street wings and nachos. The wings were perfectly sauced up with a combination of flavors that's hard to describe in the most positive way. Everything was 10/10!! The team was super friendly and attentive. The vibe is super chill, patio seating. Great for hangouts, date nights, or family outings. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Great ambiance, good food and delicious drinks. Laid back and great for the family. Awesome meat shop right there too for take home cut to order.

Yelp
Excellent BBQ! Love their Avo and broccoli salad. Their grilled chicken sandwich was good too! Service is always kind. All outdoor seating

Yelp
Food was good. Service was ok. Music was good. Rib Tacos- 5 Fish tacos-2 Rib Sandwich-5 Ribs-3.5

Yelp
Visiting from out of town, and this place was the perfect way to kick off our trip! We shared the elote, baby kale salad, and tri-tip nachos, and everything was delicious. The baby kale salad was definitely the highlight--super fresh, light, and packed with flavor. I think I tasted a hint of basil, which made it even better! The elote salad was also fantastic. It's worth a return visit just for that! As we were finishing our meal, the table next to us had their adorable pups with them, and the restaurant regularly serves a pup patty and bones! Such a thoughtful touch. Very dog friendly! Overall, it was a great start to our weekend!

Yelp
Located in the Funk Zone, order at the window and find a seat at one of the many wine barrels. Reorder drinks right from your table using the QR code. Food was decent. Service good. Quiet on a Tuesday evening in late March
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Amazing meal, service, and ambiance. I look forward to my Shalhoob's visit every time we are in Santa Barbara. The tri tip is really next level and I really loved the horchata.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
My husband and I spent a weekend in Santa Barbara, and this was the best place we ate at! They were crowded on a Sunday night around 5:30/6pm, even right before they closed at 7pm. We ordered their 1/2 lb of tri-tip with a side of fries and mac & cheese. Their tri-tip was well cooked and seasoned, their fries were good (don't forget to ask for the garlic dip), and the mac and cheese was one of the best mac and cheeses we've had. I'm buying a full mac and cheese next time. We also like that there were self-serve water stations. Though a tight little outdoor restaurant, Shalhoob's was a complete vibe. We told ourselves that we would come back here every time we make a trip to Santa Barbara.
google avatar

Jenna A.

Yelp
The wait time for picking up Shalhoob's via the website is all over the place. We were told it would be ready at a certain time and it wasn't ready for another 30+ minutes. The staff was very kind when dealing with this matter however. The tri tip was extremely dry a which was quite a bummer. The pulled pork was really good, and didn't have too much fat in our portion. Mac and cheese and bread were solid.
google avatar

Desiree P.

Yelp
Pull up and bench and hang for a while. Order a beer or their hibiscus margarita or two, no judgements. The staff is chill, super helpful, and will share their favorites with you. If you are a red meat eater may I suggest their Tri tip sandwich. It is SO tender and DELICIOUS. And if you're a fish eater, the fish tacos are BOMB. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu actually.
google avatar

Bella T.

Yelp
This is a must try when you are in santa barbara. This is an outdoor patio with tapas, they have plenty of seating outside with heaters for when it's cold, or it's perfect during the day. We ordered the baja fish tacos, the nachos no meat, and street corn and they were all amazing. i would say that I would try a different item besides the fish tacos next time as they were slightly dry but still good. I do absolutely recommend the nachos and the corn though. They also have some mixed drinks and beer available. We came on a saturday night and it was pretty busy but still didn't take long for the staff to have the food ready. The ambiance outside is great with the seating, lights, heaters and a TV playing games. Will be back!
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Great fun location. Pay at counter and they bring to you. Good drinks especially the spiked Horchata. Pulled pork sandwich with poppy seed slaw was excellent. Tri tip was dry and disappointing. Very tender ribs were meaty and saucy.
google avatar

Emmy C.

Yelp
Came here for the burger week. Thier BBQ burger had skinny onion rings that made me question if I had ordered a fried chicken burger because that crispiness had that same texture. The flavor was good, especially since I know their burgers have good quality meat from their butcher shop! I didn't really taste the garlic aioli but I did taste the bbq sauce. It was super cold when we got our burgers and the employee there turned on the heaters for us, but the wind was just too cold for me so I had to finish my burger at home.
google avatar

Tarek H.

Yelp
Phenomenal spot, i came here twice on my trip got the fried chicken, and the tri tip sandwich. The tri tip was the most delicious thing i have had. Wow. I was too hungry to take a pic, but plz do try it. Wonderful service, clean overall, and i went twice in under 24 hours, so yeah it was great. Thx shalhoob, i ll be back.

Yelp
I have been here a few times now and as an SB native, I can say this is one of my favorite spots. Service is friendly and the food is always amazing. The outdoor seating lets you enjoy our beautiful weather. This time around, my date ordered to-go for us and it was packaged very well. The food was incredible!
google avatar

Charlene A.

Yelp
Great food and nice atmosphere. Tri tip sandwich was great. My husband had the meatball sandwich which he said was also good. Fries were crappy and came with ketchup and SME sort of special mix with mayo. Overall goodness. Would recommend.

Cathy A.

Yelp
We arrived and was seated in a area that had a special ad event. The waiter told us to be out of the area at 6pm. Then the rude manger came over, really aggressive and told us to be out at 515. After we ordered beers and wine and a ton of food. This place came highly recommend by a friend. She didn't care that her server seat us there. No other place to sit. She was rude and couldn't believe she is a manger. Her name is Mia. Asked for the manger, she said I am the manager. She said Ill refund your order. Couldn't careless that we had a baby that needed to eat. Couldn't make anything right. Just a refund and for us to leave. Unbelievable. I would never recommend anyone to go here. Mia could care less.

Yelp
The food is so good! I hit Shalhoubs whenever I'm in Santa Barbara. The tri tip sandwich is so good and you can't miss the corn side dish. Highly recommend!

Danny A.

Yelp
At time of ordering we requested meat to be well done. They said they could not do that for us. We don't like the meat to look pink, I know it's fully cooked but it's our preference. At that point we weren't sure we wanted to order. Then the other worker at next register assured us don't worry it's fully cooked no pink meat its cooked very well. We said ok then she made us feel better about it. Well order arrives 20 minutes later to table and instant disappointment. Meat on both sandwiches was completely pink, not what we wanted. Don't lie to your customers. We drove an hour to come here had to be let down like this. My girlfriend could not eat her sandwich she left there hungry. I ate what looked best on my plate. We didn't want to go and complain, but this did not sit well with me.
google avatar

Vanessa T.

Yelp
Cute area. Cornbread was good. The tri-tip was good but the rest was just ok. Outside seating was nice, but def rustic
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Tried this place out for the first time and the food was great! We also got margaritas which were fresh and not too sugary. Fries were 10/10. Would definitely go back! Great patio for hanging out / playing card games.
google avatar

Anita P.

Yelp
Tri Tip was surprisingly tender. Fries were crispy and delicious. Enjoyed the outside seating and watched the NBA finals with good friends.
google avatar

Alexandra B.

Yelp
Had a really nice late lunch on the patio here, it was my first visit and I think I'll definitely return. The hero of the afternoon was definitely the Chipotle Peach Rib Tips on top of fries. The service was nice, and for the patio you order at the window and they deliver the food to the table. There's plenty of shady places to sit, although parking in the funk zone can be a bit challenging on weekends.

Monica R.

Yelp
We took a drive to Santa Barbara, and ate here after a suggestion from my son. I love the outdoor seating, and my gosh, the food was delicious! The Elote is a must! Staff is pretty cool and welcoming.
google avatar

Keya M.

Yelp
Shalhoobs was such a fun place. You order at the counter and there's only seating outdoors. Don't worry there's tons of patio seating. Our food came out quickly, hot and fresh. The drinks were a little bit too sweet as they are premixed even adding an additional shot there still wasn't enough of a kick with it. The ribs were amazing, tender and the right amount of sauce on them. The truffle burger had so much onion aioli I needed to eat it with a fork. Will I be back...most definitely! The vibe is a vibe there!
google avatar

Yelp
We have kids now, and Shalhoob's Funk Zone Patio has become our go-to spot in Santa Barbara for an easy outdoor family dinner. It's casual enough that we can go with extended family and friends without planning in advance, and there's plenty of space for kids to run around without getting in everyone else's way (though I will confess that if you're there at the same time as my boys, you will 100% notice them). The food is consistently tasty and well priced, with a menu built around meat meat meat. (There are vegetarian options, but Shalhoob's started as a meat purveyor.) Great, tender ribs, served with Shalhoob's house pickles, pico de gallo, and garlic bread. An excellent oak smoked tri-tip sandwich with house BBQ glazed tri-tip, pico de gallo, and garlic aioli on garlic bread. The Funk Zone Burger hits the spot with a beefy beef patty, aged cheddar, dill pickles, shredded lettuce, and dijonnaise on a brioche bun. I've also liked all three of the tacos on offer--Baja fish with chipotle aioli, pico, slaw, and cotija; pulled pork with "elote" aioli, red onion, cilantro, and queso fresco; and the tri-tip with chipotle horseradish cream, pico, and cowboy beans. My sons get the grilled cheese and chicken tenders from the kid's menu, which come with fries. All of us like the fries. Shalhoob's also brews its own beer--a blonde, a lager, a couple IPAs, and rotating seasonal offerings. I've liked all the ones I've tried. We've gotten pitchers of the blonde and the lager our last couple visits, prime drinking for a warm night on the patio. tl;dr, we're big fans of Shalhoob's and will keep on Shalhoobing as long as the place will have us.

Yelp
Be careful with the online orders!!!! I just went to use the brand new seasonings I had ordered November 11,2024 to be shipped to SoCal. I just now realized since I finished my old bottle a few weeks ago that the new ones they sent me had been expired. One was April 23, 2024 and the other expired November 23, 2024. Two brand new expired seasonings being sent out was pretty disappointing. Makes me wonder if my previous bottle that I finished was even any good.

Yelp
This place has a ton of delicious food to choose from that you just want to come back and try everything. This place is perfect for groups of all sizes. There are different entrees to choose from tacos and burgers and sides as Mac and cheese. The burgers are extremely filling abs flavorful. The must try item is the tri tip. Get a sandwich or choose it as the protein for a salad. Avocado salad is a must try. Fried chicken sandwich is generous in flavor and quantity. The chicken is fried to perfection and not dry.

Yelp
We came here on Saturday 5/31/25. The hostess asked if we wanted all shade or partial shade which was nice. They explained how to order and seated us. Their lemonade was so good! From the time we ordered until we got our food was maybe 10 minutes. The food came out hot and with massive portions. Definitely worth coming here and we will be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent fast casual restaurant in the Funk Zone. Order at the counter, and grab a table (awesome outdoor seating). The best tri-tip sandwich we have had! Also their to-go nachos were served in two parts: one box for chips and one for the cheese dip, which was amazing since it kept the chips from getting soggy! I have ordered nachos from endless restaurants, and no one does this simple thing to prevent them from going soggy. Thank you food team! The French fries were also amazing (super crispy) and came with multiple dipping sauces. Tasty Mac & Cheese and slaw. Overall I could not recommend this place more!
google avatar

Lorissa W.

Yelp
A friendly place with a comfortable outdoor dining space with good casual food. My husband enjoyed their trip sandwich here. Unfortunately, I was having a problem with a tooth so I didn't order anything here but his sandwich looked great and he really enjoyed it. The bathroom is outdoors in a booth. It has large picnic tables so it's easy for a family to sit. It's in the Funk zone so super convenient to our hotel on Castillo St. Lots of tasting rooms nearby.

Yelp
Fun place to eat with dog friendly patio. My boyfriend loved his pulled pork. The Mac and cheese was amazing! My fish taco was very unique with parmigiana cheese and delicious! Convenient location in the funk zone!

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. Hands down will be back EVERYTIME I'm in SB. I was here for a weekend trip, and my friend recommended this place and said it was "the BEST tri tip" he's ever had so I knew I needed to check this place out. We went twice in the span of 3 days so you know this is legit! They have street parking and a very small lot. The seating is patio style and is all outdoors but they have umbrellas so it's shaded. Oak Smoked Tri Tip Sandwich - My god the meat was so flavorful and tender. And on garlic bread too?! My favorite item! Baja fish tacos - They sell them individually but also in 3s so my boyfriend got 3 of them and I'll let the photo speak for itself on size. The fish was fried so golden and the combination of the toppings made it so well balanced. Mac and Cheese - You can add protein if you want so we added fried chicken. They have different sizes: side, half share, and full share. We opted for a full version since it was only a little more $. Overall, nothing special but still good. Fries - Comes with garlic aioli + we asked for ranch i stead of ketchup. Can't go wrong with it. Overall, this place is 1000% worth a try. Sad that they no longer allow dogs on the patio.

Yelp
This place is definitely a fun place to take your friends! It's got outdoor seating with picnic tables and barrel tables that make the vibe casual and comfortable. The staff are incredibly nice and attentive and are so accommodating of requests and needs. My friend and I dropped by on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. We ordered a huge spread of food between the both of us but we enjoyed every bite! We started off with hand cut fries and garlic aioli. The fries were crunchier than expected but were ideal thickness and the sauce was so addicting! I ordered the baja fish tacos and was skeptical since this is considered a BBQ place. However, I saw that the baja fish tacos seemed to be popular here so I gave it a go! I am so glad I did because these are some of the better fish tacos I've had in my life! That salsa they provide paired SO WELL with the tacos. The tacos alone were great but with the sauce, everything was elevated and I was so satisfied with my order. The ribs, mac n cheese, garlic bread, and street corn were good as well (but not as good as the fish tacos imo). Hibiscus marg was also yum! We were given the option of adding different types of salt rims or none at all! I thought that was extremely thoughtful and felt it was worth noting for anyone interested in getting a marg here. Overall I had a great time here and I would definitely come back with a friend!

Yelp
My wife and I visited this restaurant two weeks ago. It is an outdoor restaurant where you order from the cashier and take a seat at one of the many community style tables. The tables are covered to offer shade when needed. The food arrived to our table fairly quickly. My wife had one tri tip taco and one baja fish taco. She loved both of the tacos. I ordered the oak smoked tri tip sandwich minus the pico. The tri tip was flavorful and tender. Both meals were filling. We will definitely return in the future.

Yelp
This was without a doubt the worst service I have EVER experienced. When my food never came after all my party of 6 had finished eating I asked for a refund. The "manager " never apologized , and when I mentioned that he said he was not sorry. After the refund he said "don't come back". Like I would. Skip this place for one of the many excellent places in the Funk Zone.
