Yelp
For those who know, this used to be Sam Woo years ago. It's located in a small plaza that shares the parking lot with a bigger restaurant and some other establishments. Parking here sucks. Not only is it small, but a little tight. Larger SUV's might have issues parking here. There are parking spots on the streets, so you might have to walk a block or 2 if there are no parking available. Though, there is parking available in the back of the restaurant, but there's only about 3 slots and it's angled, so leaving, you will be backing your car out on to Garvey. Just be careful if your car does not have a back up camera.
When you enter the restaurant, you are right in the deli area. Keep going a few feet and there's the restaurant. Capacity is about 43 people, so not too big, but for most, should be ok. On this hot day in June, they blasted the AC and it must have been in the low 70's or high 60's. Which felt good, but can get cold if you are just sitting there. There are pictures of their food items plastered all over the restaurant and specials on each table. They have a special menu from 10am-6pm that offer their menu items at a discounted price. My one complaint about this restaurant is that the floors are filthy. There are stains from sauces and who knows what else and it doesn't look like they clean the floors. I could be wrong, but they really need to do a deep cleaning.
I ended up ordering the Seafood chow fun, spicy salt calamari & crispy pork/roast duck. Total came out to about $50 with tax. While waiting, they brought me a bowl of pork broth soup with some veggies and pork bones. It was tasty and helped contain my hunger.
The calamari came out first and I thought it was a little too heavy on the salt, though it was seasoned well as I can taste the five spice powder they used on it. It had a nice crunch and not too thick. I did notice that the inside was a little gooey though. Could be that they didn't fry it long enough or the calamari might have been undercooked just a bit. The pork/duck came out and this was why I decided to come here. I wanted to see how their deli meat compared to Sam Woo's. And I have to say, it is better. The cut of pork I was served was meaty, fatty and moist. I didn't need the sauce at all, but it was a bit salty though. The skin was nice and crispy and at $14, it's not a bad deal. The duck was also a little on the salty side, but it was very flavorful. I would definitely come back here for these two items. The chow fun was just ok. The texture was a little slimy, but the taste was there. It's as good as Longten Cafe down the street though. Their's has a wok hay taste to it. This one here had a slight wok hay to it, but the texture and taste was not on the same level. Overall, I would come here again to try their other items. The one thing about restaurants/deli's is that you have the option of ordering the roast pork, duck and other items if that's what you are in the mood for. The service was pretty standard, but one thing I did like is that they will pack your left overs for you.
