Shan Halal Meat & Grocery

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Shaan Halal Meat and feel compelled to warn others. First of all, the cleanliness of the shop was very concerning. The store itself looked dirty and poorly maintained. What truly shocked me was watching the man behind the counter who was cutting the meat. He clearly had a cold and was wiping his nose with his hands and then continued handling and cutting the meat without washing or sanitizing his hands. That is completely unacceptable and a serious health hazard. I ordered a whole lamb, which I have purchased from them before. They usually charge $10.99 per pound, but this time I was charged $14.99 per pound. When I questioned the price difference, they casually said it was a “special order.” There was no prior mention of a price increase, no transparency, and no clear explanation. It felt dishonest. On top of that, the quality of the meat was the worst I have ever received. I slow cooked it in the oven for 8 hours, which should have made it tender. Instead, it remained tough, had a strange smell, and was completely inedible. I had to throw it away. It was a total waste of 325 dollars. When I called to explain what happened, the customer service was just as bad as the product. The man on the phone was dismissive and had a rude attitude. He said there was “no guarantee” and that he couldn’t do anything about it. Not even an apology. I even offered to bring the meat back so they could see the issue themselves, and his response was, “What am I going to do with it?” That level of disrespect toward a paying customer is unbelievable. To make matters worse, I also purchased rose water from the shop, and it turned out to be expired. Selling expired products on top of poor quality meat is completely unacceptable. Between the unsanitary food handling, the unexplained price increase, the inedible meat, expired products, and the terrible customer service, I will never return. If you’re looking for clean, fresh, and properly handled halal meat, I strongly suggest going somewhere else. This experience was frustrating, disappointing, and honestly concerning from a health perspective.

They’re kinda expensive compare to the other halal supermarkets & the lady in front never answers me when I give her Salam maybe I’m not a hijabi but I’m still trying. The reason for one star is because the butchers in the back try to act to smart especially the taklu(bold) one. He made me wait so he can bring me a good piece of steak from the back but as soon as he heard a semi big order, he literally told me we don’t have it & this happened again with the new butcher who thinks he’s Shahrukh khan, making fun of me because I asked him if the display meat was lamb or cow like ok my bad I’m not a qasai, do your job why act like a smarty!! The lady just pissed me off because I gave her Salam twice & she never replied thinking she’s too good. Go to the halal supermarket on main street so much better than this!! Oh & I once I heard the taklu cursing non stop in Punjabi on the phone which was so shocking to me!

They does not sell fresh meat. Always their white and red meat smells. Not recommended.

I love the couple who owns this place. They have become my friends. And they have the best prices in town so I always go to them first. Tons of wonderful, healthy food

Wonderful service. The halal meat was fresh and prepared very nicely by the butcher Mr. ALI. The store has a good variety of Pakistani and Chinese food items.

Even though it is a newly opened meat and south east asian/middle eastern grocery shop, they do have a large variety of daily need items. It is very clean inside. Owner was very helpful in finding items I needed. Prices are better than other shops in area. Wish them success all the way.

Great place to shop halal meat. Very impress with the professional behavior of owner. This is a family own business and treat their customers like a family member. Love to shop again.

I am so glad that there is a halal grocery store in College Point because I knew they would have almost all the ingredients I need for cooking. If you cook middle eastern, east African, or south Asian food this place will have ingredients you need if you are looking for spices and legumes. The store is clean and organized. They have a really great selection of beans, lentils, and grains at really good prices compared to other stores in the area. I use a lot of cracked wheat which had been hard to find in stores and their price for a bag of it was actually cheaper than what I would order online. They do have a butcher section in the back of the store which is clean and they were helpful in cutting up my order. The workers were friendly and helpful in finding what I needed and they even gave me a free sample of some marinated chicken to take home with my order, which was delicious. Needless to say I will be returning when I need more ingredients.

I was amazingly surprised to see the wide selection of spices, lentils, rice and all other south asian, middle eastern and african specialities. The owners are so helpful and friendly, store is clean and well organized. Prices are much better than others, i will definitely be a regular here.
