13 London Restaurants With Big Booths - London - The Infatuation

"The classy booths at Shan Shui Social are dark wood-clad, like a high-end cruise ship, and between the ‘press for service’ button and gorgeous ceramic teapots, you’ll feel like a regular at the captain’s table. The most delicious Chinese dishes at this surprisingly cool Victoria restaurant can be found in a bamboo steamer—think shrimp and scallop dumplings and slippery cheung fun." - sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

The 13 Best Dim Sum Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"Shan Shui Social is a welcome respite in Victoria. Gorgeous ceramic tea pots line one wall at this Chinese spot, while old-fashioned telephones line the other. Booths are taken by families getting a meet-in-the-middle dinner and solo diners who refuse to settle for a Pret before their train. Order anything in a bamboo steamer. Whether that's the shrimp and scallop dumplings that give way without requiring the involvement of teeth, or slippery cheung fun with springy dough and tender prawns." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak

22 Restaurants Great For A Group Dinner In London - London - The Infatuation

"Shan Shui Social, a Chinese restaurant on Buckingham Palace Road feels surprisingly cool for SW1. Inside, booths are taken by families getting a meet-in-the-middle dinner after work and friends ordering an obscene—but necessary—amount of dim sum. Gorgeous ceramic tea pots line the walls on one side, while old-fashioned telephones line the other. When it comes to ordering, keep in mind that the most delicious things here can be found in a bamboo steamer." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

Absolutely loved my meal here! This Shanghai restaurant offers authentic flavors with a modern twist. The braised pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the drunken chicken was perfectly seasoned. The service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy yet stylish. A great place whether you're a fan of classic Shanghainese dishes or trying them for the first time. Highly recommend!

We randomly found Shan Shui Social after visiting Buckingham Palace, and it turned out to be such a hidden gem! The restaurant is beautifully decorated — vintage Chinese touches with a modern twist, and the bar area is perfect for photos. We ordered the roast duck and char siu, both were absolutely delicious. The duck skin was crispy and the meat was juicy and well-seasoned. The char siu had that perfect balance of sweet and savoury, with a slightly caramelised edge — exactly how it should be. Their Three Cup Chicken was a pleasant surprise — super fragrant with basil and sesame oil, and perfect with rice. We also had tofu with mushrooms, which was light, fresh, and full of flavour.

Shan Shui is really a solid place - good variety with Veggie options and well made in its approach to an authentic but also causal dining experience. We ordered quite a bit between three people but the prices weren’t anything you wouldn’t expect from a central London restaurant. Top favourites were the Kafou (pardon my spelling) a very unique but delicious dish, prawn wontons, braised mushroom and tofu with rice, char siu and roast duck. It was very delicious only minor notes the noodles in the char siu and prawn wontons dish weren’t the easiest to eat even for the most vetted chop stick user and the sauce was a bit salty I think that would’ve been a better choice in a soup form instead of dry. Also the chilli crab Bao was actually very tasty but …. Where was the crab a mere thought apparently cause there wasnt much in the Bao, luckily whatever filling they did have was still very tasty. I would defo visit again just maybe with more soup options !!

I like the interior of the restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxing. The staff are helpful and friendly. The roast duck is a must have. The shredded tofu salads is delicate and delicious. The dim sums are also worth trying.

Amazing food. Highly recommend La Zi Ji and crispy squids. All deep fried food tastes so good and very authentic. We went there for lunch on 14th June around 2pm, the lady who served us provided amazing service too (sorry you were busying so I didn’t ask your name when I left). Definitely worth recommending!

We were on our way to Victoria train station and passed by this funky but quirky restaurant. Since our train will depart an hour and a half later, we decided to have our lunch here. We were greeted by their friendly staff and we are pleased to discover that they have a section for luggage storage. That's very thoughtful of them! The menu has a plethora of Asian dishes and we couldn't make up our minds as they all look delicious. Finally we decided on wonton noodles , roast duck, mapo tofu , sichuan lazi chicken, salt and pepper baby squid. Our noodles and roast duck arrived around 10 minutes later and the rest not long later. The baby squid tastes fresh and has the right crunch. The char siew is so good and the noodles has the right chewy texture. I especially like the roast duck as it is succulent and flavourful. The rest of the food tastes good too even though I would prefer the spicy chicken to be more spicy. We are very satisfied with the roast as you can't really find good roast in London. We will be back again! Thank you

I live in the area and have been waiting for this restaurant to open and it was so worth the wait! The cantonese roast duck was absolutely fantastic and the spinach prawn dumplings were the best I've ever had. Very delicate flavours and cooked to perfection. I also loved the art deco interiors and whole atmosphere of the place - just feels like a little oasis. And last but not least the service (Brian) was perfect as well, so the 5* couldn't be more well deserved! EDIT*: Since writing this initial review I've visited the restaurant several times and both the food and service have been consistently fantastic, if anything the each experience has been getting even better and better!

No doubt about it — the new Chinese food king in Victoria, London! 🔥 From the very first bite to the last, it was flavor overload — my mouth was in heaven and my brain was full of exclamation marks. I kept thinking: how can it be this good?! I used to go all the way to Bicester just to eat at Shan Shui — shopping was just an excuse. And now her sister restaurant has finally arrived in London. Pure happiness! 🙌 We ordered a ton of dishes, and honestly, it was so delicious I completely demolished a bowl of rice. I usually stop at 70% full, but this meal? A full-on 120% — I had to literally hold onto the wall walking out. 😅
