The 15 Best Shrimp Dishes In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Shana’s is a bright orange Jamaican spot in the Northeast that usually has a group of old men out front drinking Tings on a sunny day. In between sips, that crew and most of the people inside are scarfing down a platter of curry shrimp. The shrimp are sauteed in a peppery and earthy curry sauce they’re drenched in. Served with stewed green peppers and onions and two sides—we go for the sweet yams and gooey mac and cheese—it's a tangy dish that has us standing in line longer than when Costco gives away free cupcakes (yes, this is a thing)." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The 17 Best Caribbean Restaurants In Philly

"Directly across from Ron's in the Northeast, Shana’s is a bright orange Jamaican spot that usually has a group of old men out front drinking Tings on a sunny day. you’ll find a spread of porridge and salt fish for breakfast, rotis, and an incredible brown stew chicken that we’d put on the “Welcome To The Great Northeast” sign if we could. There’s a large dining room with cushy booths where you can take your curry goat and heaping portions of two sides (go for the spicy cabbage and yams) and watch a soccer match. The platters come in small, medium, and large. For a heartier meal, go for the large and you’ll have enough food to scarf down for days. " - candis mclean

15 Great Restaurants That Are Open On Mondays

"If your “meal prep” didn’t quite work out this weekend, head to this Caribbean spot in the Northeast. You’ll find a spread of porridge and salt fish for breakfast, rotis for lunch, and an incredible brown stew chicken for dinner that we’d put on the “Welcome To The Great Northeast'' sign if we could. There’s a large dining room with cushy booths where you can take your curry goat and heaping portions of two sides (go for the spicy cabbage and yams) and watch a soccer match. The platters come in small, medium, and large. It works for a casual dinner spot that feels as comfortable as your cousin Eric’s dining room or as a great place to grab takeout and actually head to Eric’s. " - candis mclean, alison kessler

Google
Had no idea what food they had, menu link not working. Just ordered what the guy in front of me ordered. Jerk chicken, beans and rice, Mac and cheese. Food was good, ordering area is deceiving, as there is a nice dining room. Will definitely be back once the menu link is working so know what to order. Med portion was huge, got two dinners out of it.

I paid $29 for a 20oz soda and medium oxtails and cabbage no rice. It was 6 skinny malnourished oxtails on top of the cabbage. The worst oxtails I ever had they tasted like sweet barbecue tomato sauce. I could tell by the color of the juice and the consistency it wasn’t gonna be good. It wasn’t gravy it was juice. The cabbage was cut nice but too much vinegar and black pepper. I couldn’t tell if it was Jamaican Cole slaw or cooked cabbage It pisses me off because they know damn well they wouldn’t eat this at home. My house is a 5 min drive away but somehow my food was cold? The server was nice surprisingly. Overall bad oxtails. I wouldn’t recommend this place I would recommend you take the $30 go to 7 brothers and buy some and cook em yourself

Google
The Oxtail and Jerk chicken was really tender and juicy, and full of flavor. The Mac & Cheese was a 6 out of 10 the cabbage had a good texture, but very salty. Rice & Beans was cooked soft with a sweet hint to it. My only complaint is, I ordered a Large Oxtail and it only came with 6 pieces of Oxtail come one throw in some smaller pieces. Overall I’d rate this place a 6 out of 10.

Google
The food was delicious. The only reason why I gave them a 4 star was because they were not prepared yet. I asked for cabbage, and it wasn't ready. I also wanted plantains and didn't have any. However. The guy who took care of my order was very friendly and professional. The chicken was tender, fresh, and packed with flavor. The beef patty, omg! You can tell they are handmade.

My favorite dish from here is the stewed chicken. It’s very flavorful and is consistent every time I get it. I wanted to like this place but the service is not up to par for me. They barely greet you when you come in. I’ve stood awkwardly waiting to be acknowledged often. They don’t have menus available in the take out area or posting of prices. They have out of stocks but no true way to easily notify you until you order and they go back to check (signage could help). If they would fix the front end service, kitchen flow/efficiency they could have my loyalty. I have not returned to food places for less. I really want to love them but I can’t look over these details as it makes me not want to go there as often.

I ordered on Uber eats. I called to ask them to separate my yams from my curry chicken. They told me it would cost extra for the container, I told them that was fine. When I received my food my candy yams were fixed in with curry juice and sauce which is disgusting!!

Yelp
I liked the fact that I was able to get authentic roti from here. I was left with a smile, but they had too much chana in it... I wanted more potato stew. The seasoning was on point, the roti was just the perfect temperature and texture.

Yelp
My hunt for Caribbean Cuisine continues! I want to try most of the Caribbean restaurants around the Northeast Philly's area. Due to the last uncomfortable encounter at a nearby Caribbean restaurant, I'm a bit nervous trying out Shana's. When I walk in, the two younger staffs seems to be pretty normal. They didn't gave me a stare down or anything lol. The older staff was kinda surprised to see me there. But she was quick to take my order. I stutter a bit because I was nervous...... I forgot the side order's names but she was quick to help me, which I really appreciate. I had order a medium Jerk Chicken Platter with cabbage and rice & peas. Two Coco bread and a Tropical Rhythm Lychee Punch. I had gotten Oxtail gravy on my rice &peas and Jerk sauce on the side for my chicken. The Coco bread smells so darn delicious when it first warmed up. If you are in a hurry, let the staffs know you will like your Coco bread warmed before you place your order. Or else you will be waiting like me. But I didn't mind since I wasn't in a hurry:) That medium platter had last me thru two lunches. The Rice and Peas are definitely the highlight of the meal bc it was still soft even after 2 days of refrigeration. Shana's is definitely by far my most favorite right now!

Yelp
I have going to Shanas since that other place was a 7-eleven for my Friday oxtail w/rice& peas + two sides. Today the server informed me that rice & peas, which has ALWAYS came with 2-side, is now an additional side. Looks like it is time to visit the new guy around the corner.

Yelp
I ordered an oxtail platter with rice and peas and cabbage as my sides. I stumbled across this place from TikTok so I was really excited to try it. The content creator who reviewed this place was raving about how good the food was, more specially the oxtails. Well I got it and it was okay. The cabbage was the best thing on the plate. The rice and beans was good but when I went to reheat it up, it def didn't hit the same. Which is why I gave them 3 stars and not 4. I don't really see me trying this place again.

Yelp
The food is absolutely great. It's fresh and hot and you can order a hearty Jamaican breakfast there as well and you rarely find that in Philly. There's a large seating area for you and your family as well as customer bathrooms etc the space is so big you could even do an event and have them cater for you! The service is pretty good. They're fast and efficient and the portions are decent. The parking area needs a bit more space but it's definitely worth it.

Yelp
Food is delicious and nice potions curry goat is my favorite from what I have tried so far.
