We met one of A's friends, who lives in Brooklyn, for brunch at Shane's. It's a tiny restaurant. When I first entered I wasn't sure I was going to feel comfortable there. I have this whole mental malfunction about being in the way, or my wheelchair taking up too much space. (Thanks, family!) But once the staff figured out how to open the double doors so I could get into the dining room everything was fine.
We visited Shane's on our second day in the city and were, unfortunately, running low on funds (the hotel hit us with an unexpected $200 security deposit when we checked in), so I just had a coffee, which was delicious. That's saying a lot because I just realized that I don't like most coffee. At home I use flavored creamers, and still end up pouring most of it out, so I stopped drinking it. Shane's coffee was delicious with sugar and cream.
Jeremy had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich which was very good. And also probably the cheapest item on the menu at $8.
We split the check, and the rest of our party had more extravagant meals and cocktails, which they all seemed to enjoy. We found it odd that even though we split the check, it still came on one bill. I've never seen that before, and it caused us some confusion.
We had a great time. The staff was pleasant. I was surprised that there weren't any bagels on the menu though.
