First time I went to this place was because I was intrigued mostly by the fact that they are probably one of the only BBQ joints in the country that also serves breakfast! Honestly can't even remember what I got for breakfast but it was okay. Great vibes, good people, had to come back to try their meats.
The "Salt Lick" is their 2 meat combo.
Brisket came wrapped in butcher paper which automatically spelled "YES!" on the scale for me. Although I might have to change my ruling on the butcher paper rule. Shane's brisket didn't have much bark, a good chunk of fat, texture was stringy corned beef (not necessarily a bad thing at all), black pepper flavor is average, and the fat was a little pasty. Could have melted better. The smoke flavor was very subtle. Not a terrible brisket, just not worthy of Butcher Paper presentation.
The Ribs I couldn't even see the bones. Little bit of a rub. Had that meat cap still attached and it was hard to cut through. Flavor was okay, sweet more than anything else, didn't taste like pork to me though. Ribs needed sauce. Meat was very tender, but a lot of fat though. I enjoyed the brisket more.
Sauces: House sauce, not bad, cider taste. Downeast bourbon made with downeast cider, Much better! Im a bit of a sucker for that bourbon sweet glaze bbq sauce though.
Mac and Cheese looked like lumpy cheese goo but not terrible. A little gritty, not completely goo, pasta could have boiled for a little longer. Overall I was surprised the cheese sauce tasted a bit better than it looked.
The Beans actually looked like baked bean style but the beans were hard enough I could tell by just pushing them with my fork. And these must have bee the most flavorless beans I have ever had! The only flavor I could taste was the chili powder and it was super faint. Had to put some of the sauce in there, first time I've ever done that. It didn't even help.
Even the chicken was mediocre. It was still definitely smoked chicken but just ... nothing special at all.
Cornbread came with a melon ball of butter that was still thawing. It was honey butter but the sugar crystals on it were hard to distinguish if it was just sitting in the fridge for too long.. Cornbread itself was sweet and buttery but not fresh cut.
All in all, Shane's I think is a BBQ that even non BBQ seekers would be like "...it's okay". Which is a real shame and I don't like saying it because the place is obviously a BBQ joint. All the menu items are BBQ, they have a real smoker working round the clock. I don't know, just nothing was really sticking with me. But a good bar scene though.
