"The dining room with six smartly dressed tables may seem a bit understated when compared to the opulent corridor of private rooms, but the charm and professionalism of the staff will soon put you at ease. From time to time, the head chef adds new items to the menu – fried dumplings stuffed with shrimp and crab meat are dainty packets of umami; wok-fried prawns in black soya sauce win diners’ hearts thanks to exquisite knife work and springy flesh." - Michelin Inspector

"The Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi Housed in a 100-meter-tall, concave building in the heart of Xintiandi, the 24-story property has rooms with enduring views over the neighborhood’s Shikumen storefronts. Accommodations combine dark woods, floor-to-ceiling windows, green and gold wool carpets with a paisley-like motif, and dual-basin bathrooms with oversized bathtubs. Shanghai ’s Art Deco period and Xintiandi’s courtyard houses inspire interiors, while color schemes of black and green appear throughout, from the dark local granite used as flooring and walls to green glass detailing. Another recurrent theme is the horse, a key Han symbol, laser-cut into large lobby columns and bronze beams to resemble bark on a tree."

The Langham Shanghai Xintiandi (Shanghai, China) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Compared to the sci-fi skyline of Shanghai’s more hectic districts, Xintiandi is a low-slung village. In a place where restored Shikumen homes and cobbled alleys bump up against boutique shops and hip clubs, the mirrored-glass monolith of The Langham Shanghai Xintiandi might seem a bit ostentatious. You’re free to take this as further proof of the Chinese hospitality industry’s maximalist tendencies — but don’t let it dissuade you from sampling the tasteful interior or the myriad comforts of the Langham’s impeccable service." - Tablet Hotels

The Langham Hotel in Shanghai is truly one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed at, and the entire experience felt luxurious, thoughtful, and unforgettable from beginning to end. From the moment we arrived, the level of service immediately stood out. The staff was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive, making us feel welcomed and well cared for at every step of our stay. The concierge team deserves special recognition—they were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to assist us with planning our days, offering recommendations, and making everything seamless. What made our stay even more special was how they surprised us for our anniversary. Walking into a beautifully decorated room was such a touching moment. The attention to detail, from the elegant setup to the celebratory treats, truly showed how much they value their guests and special occasions. The room itself was stunning—spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully designed with both comfort and elegance in mind. Every detail felt refined, from the beautiful décor to the amenities provided. Even the small touches, like the coffee setup and presentation, added to the overall sense of luxury and care. It felt like a peaceful retreat in the middle of the city. Everything about The Langham Shanghai reflects excellence: exceptional hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and a genuine commitment to creating memorable experiences. It’s the kind of hotel that makes you feel pampered without being overwhelming, and special without trying too hard. This stay will always hold a special place in our hearts, and I would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an extraordinary hotel experience in Shanghai.

I enjoyed my stay here, the service is indeed praiseworthy. There are hotel staff standing near the reception who proactively approach and ask if you need help. I was very appreciative that, despite arriving at the hotel early at 8am, we were allowed into the spa restroom to freshen up – it had a shower, sauna, hairdryer and drinking water. The club room is a fantastic choice as it gives you access to the club lounge. It was great to have the lounge space to relax in, have afternoon tea, and there was even food available during happy hour. We had the option of breakfast in the lounge or in Cachet the lobby restaurant; I would highly recommend the latter as the breakfast buffet there was very good with lots of variety, much more than was available in the club lounge. There were some areas that could be improved, eg. the toilet in the hotel room itself was too dimly lit, the noodle soup and omelette at breakfast were not tasty, and while the doormen were mostly attentive they somehow couldn’t help us speak on our mobile with the Didi driver who claimed he couldn’t find the hotel entrance and then cancelled our booking(!) Overall the hotel experience was excellent and I would return, as well as recommend it to my family and friends.

The Langham Xintiandi Shanghai offers excellent service provided by friendly, polite and professional staff. We travelled mid-December 2025 and during this period the room prices were moderate considering the high quality and value for money. For us was the daily music programme in the evenings with the duo “Alex and Vivian” the most important point for choosing to stay in The Langham Xintiandi Shanghai.||We appreciated the very friendly and professional check-in with William at the reception, enjoyed the high-quality service by Stefan and his team and most of all – we thoroughly enjoyed the music programme with “Alex and Vivian” in the hotel lobby. ||Our room was big and very-very well equipped, very clean and well maintained and offered the pinch of luxury which made our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. We also appreciated the daily supplies of water bottles. All in all – we had a great stay in Shanghai and recommend this hotel without hesitation. We will definitely come back any time soon.

Review: The Langham Shanghai — Still Well-Located, But No Longer the SameThe Langham Shanghai has long been one of my preferred hotels, especially before the pandemic. After many stays, I’ve come to expect a certain standard of hospitality, consistency, and refinement. This recent visit, however, showed a noticeable decline across several areas.ServiceOverall service from the staff was acceptable. Front-line employees remained polite and tried their best. However, the manager on duty—a Caucasian manager—felt out of touch with Asian hospitality norms. His attitude came off as dismissive and rude, which immediately set the wrong tone. The contrast between the staff’s warmth and his behavior was striking.Breakfast BuffetThe most significant drop was in the breakfast buffet. Quality has slipped in a way that’s hard to ignore: food didn’t taste as fresh, dishes weren’t as well prepared, and the overall selection felt uninspired compared to previous years. At this point, it’s honestly better to go out for breakfast.Room & HousekeepingRoom cleanliness was fine, but small inconsistencies added up. Turn-down service was missed on some nights. When I requested water refill, the staff who arrived seemed confused about why she had been sent up, leading to an awkward exchange. These are small moments, but in a five-star hotel, they highlight cracks in training and coordination.Overall ImpressionThe Langham Shanghai still has one unbeatable strength: location. But nearly everything else has declined—food, consistency, management attitude, and attention to detail. After years of loyalty, I’m now considering switching to a different hotel for future trips. The experience simply didn’t match the standards I’ve known and trusted from The Langham brand.A disappointing stay from a once-reliable favorite.

The Langham Xintiandi benefits from an exceptional location and a team of hardworking staff, particularly housekeeping, who are clearly doing their best within the constraints of the systems and facilities they are given. ||Unfortunately, the overall guest experience does not currently align with what should be expected from a five-star Langham property in one of Shanghai’s most prominent districts.||From the outset, operational execution fell short. The check-in experience lacked clarity and efficiency. Defined stay benefits were not proactively presented or explained, and there was no simple printed overview of amenities or entitlements— if the Waldorf can do this, Langham can do the same. Instead, there was persistent emphasis on enrolling me in Brilliant by Langham, despite my reservation already having my Brilliant by Langham membership number fully loaded, along with my name and contact details. At this level, systems should prioritize seamless service and recognition of existing guest profiles rather than repeated loyalty enrollment prompts.||Communication during the stay was fragmented. Having already contacted the hotel via WeChat, subsequent correspondence should have been coordinated and transparent. I later received a letter in my room regarding laundry, which stated that staff were unsure how to contact me. This was confusing, given that my phone number, profile details, and loyalty information had already been confirmed, and WeChat communication had previously been initiated. This lack of internal alignment signals systemic process gaps rather than isolated missteps.||WeChat itself is understandable in China, but requiring guests to navigate two separate WeChat accounts to reach different hotel functions is unnecessarily complicated, particularly for international travelers who may not be accustomed to using WeChat. Reaching assistance involved excessive steps, though I do acknowledge and appreciate staff responsiveness after the published business hours.||Room service was acceptable but unremarkable. Food was prepared efficiently and tasted fine. However, the menu was severely limited due to multiple unavailable items, despite ordering within the published service window.||Professionalism among some front-of-house staff (specifically the Porters) was inconsistent. Being addressed in an overly casual manner, as if already acquainted or as though interacting in a bar rather than a luxury hotel, diminishes the sense of arrival and departure that defines a true five-star experience. Warmth and polish are not mutually exclusive. Here, polish was often missing.||One clear positive was Stephen at the front desk, who handled a significant issue with cigarette odor in my room by arranging an air purifier and assisting with an external appointment. He also had fruit, Evian, and sparkling water put in my room as well. (This should be done for all guests as a welcome— there is no welcome beverage or anything upon arrival. Checking-in at the Langham felt very transactional.) Stephen’s professionalism stood out and reflects the standard the rest of the operation should aspire to.||The rooms themselves are dated and in need of desperate refurbishment. While the shower is excellent and housekeeping performs admirably, my room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke upon arrival and throughout the night. The issue was only mitigated the following day with an air purifier.||More concerning was the final day of my stay, when the room thermostat became uncontrollable and the temperature reached 28°C. As the climate appears to be centrally managed, the only response offered, an apology, was insufficient. When a hotel controls the environment, comfort must be actively restored, not simply acknowledged.||In summary, this property appears to be relying heavily on its location and brand reputation while front-line staff compensate for outdated rooms, fragmented systems, and unclear service protocols. The employees are not the core issue. The tools, training, and operational alignment are. With meaningful investment in modernization and process refinement, this hotel could once again reflect the level of excellence associated with the Langham name.||As it stands, it does not.

For many years, I have been visiting Shanghai and staying at The Langham, Xintiandi. I initially chose this hotel for its exceptional location in the heart of the city, surrounded by shopping malls, historic landmarks, entertainment venues, and an abundance of excellent restaurants. While the location remains outstanding and I continue to enjoy staying here, I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the Langham team. From the moment I arrive, I always feel genuinely welcomed—beginning at the reception and continuing with the concierge team, who assist daily with various needs. My wife arranged for several packages to be delivered directly to the hotel, and the concierge team was exceptionally helpful in managing these deliveries with great efficiency. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Langham, Xintiandi to anyone seeking an unforgettable stay in Shanghai, complemented by outstanding hospitality.

Good service is contagious — in the best way.||I’ve stayed at the Langham Xintiandi countless times, and with every visit I’m reminded why it feels like home in Shanghai. ||This trip, from the moment I arrived, Andy reached for a lighter — almost like saying, “I remember you.” That small gesture sets the tone perfectly.||Never fails, Shirley and her team at the 27th-floor Club Lounge remember our preferences and continue to provide warm, consistent, and genuinely thoughtful service.||This trip, Emily and the breakfast team offered the same welcoming energy. A special mention to Wendy, who went out of her way to find peanut butter just to satisfy a simple craving.||And during check-out, Philipp, though visibly tired from the steady flow of guests checking out — remained polite and gracious.||Kudos to the hotel management. The hotel remains in top condition and the thoughtful gestures as shared shows that the entire team is truly service focused.

24Dec2025 The room was really big and luxurious 😀😀😀we were staying on a high floor so we could see the city and the lights. We tried to capture the sunset and that explained why there were so many photos on the sun setting. Staying on this floor also entitles you to the breakfast, afternoon tea and even happy hours😀😀😀😀it was definitely a great experience but of course the price per night was also pretty steep. An awesome experience 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
