Three shrimp noodles

View Postcard for Shanghai Bun Dynasty

Google
The decor gives elegant Chinese vibes with a quiet and peaceful ambiance. The process for ordering is simple and straightforward via QR code. We ordered the lunch special bento that includes a portion of meat dish, veggies, pickled veggies, and rice along with a soup for 15$ (without tax and tip). Overall a chill place for Chinese food at a reasonable price. Would recommend!

Google
The server was friendly and ordering was through mobile scanning a qr code. Food were delicious and well seasoned. We got the triple shrimp tossed noodles, sichuan boiled beef, savory rice roll, salt and pepper pork cutlet. The rice roll and pork cutlet were my favorites with the crispy filling in rice roll and freshly fried crunchy pork. The boiled beef were tender and had a nice spice flavor.

Google
They came out with their new seasonal menu items and of course I had to try it out! The crab roe tofu is my favorite out of all their items; it’s creamy, soft and the umami flavor pairs well with a side of white rice. The crab roe tofu also goes so well with the triple shrimp noodles. As for the smoked fish, it was crispy and had a sweet soy sauce flavor. I would highly recommend ordering this item. Of course I also ordered items aside from their seasonal menu and the crab XLB was my favorite out of the nonseasonal items. I would definitely recommend giving this spot a try if you haven’t yet! And if you have, you need to come back to try their seasonal menu!

Google
My wife and I loved it! This was our first time here. The dishes had great flavor and were delicious! We got sticky rice, cucumber salad, braised pork belly with quail eggs, braised pork meatballs, and beef wrap.

Google
Service is very very slow. When we, 4 people, walked in, there was no one greeted us. We stood for almost 5 minutes to finally see a waiter. He then asked us to sit on a table that was covered by lots of water. I told him there was lots of water there, can we sit on a table next to the window. That table was obvious a four people table and had 4 sets of utensils on it. He said it was for 5-6 people. I told him the other same size tables just had two people, we are a party of four. Why can’t we sit there? He finally let us sit there. And the food serving was very very slow. We waited for almost an hour to have all our dishes served. Portion is also very small. I gave them two stars just because the food was ok. The beef pancakes were served with plastic wrap, I don’t know why.

Google
The food here is on point. The soup dumplings were among the best I’ve ever had. Also, I don’t remember the name of the “squirrel fish” dish, but it was definitely a dining experience. Very tasty and unique preparation that I highly recommended, particularly for sharing.

Andrea Zhou

Google
Dishes were authentic in general, but a bit too savory for my own tastes. The business here is super busy over weekend dinner time, we are a group of 3 people, walked in and waited more than 45minutes before a table could be cleaned.up and ready; there are only three waiters on service, and they have tried to provide the best support they could.

Google
I really enjoyed the food here! The Shanghai dishes are authentic, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The portions are generous and everything tasted fresh. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Definitely one of the best places for Shanghai cuisine — I’ll be coming back!

Akash H.

Yelp
I stopped by Shanghai Family Restaurant in Cupertino for a casual lunch and decided to try their veggie stir-fried noodles. The portion was generous, with noodles cooked just right--springy without being mushy--and tossed in a light, savory sauce that coated every bite without feeling oily. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, especially the bok choy and carrots, which added both color and texture.

Yelp
The soup dumpling was fresh and yummy and the server was very lively and nice. Interior is clean and new

Yelp
3.5 stars Three of us had an early lunch here for our ladies get together. My first time here since they changed name. The decor is very traditional Chinese, large lantern style lights, nice but kind of heavy especially on a warm day. Our waitress was friendly and pleasant, after a little chitchat we ordered four dish using the iPad. The braised pork belly with tofu knots came within minutes. The pork was flavorful, tender but still a bit chewy in the right way. The tofu knots unfortunately wasn't good, they were hard, no flavor, tasted like they were just thrown in there without enough time to simmer. Portion of pork was generous which we all enjoyed. The noodle soup with pickled veggies and shredded pork was well done and very authentic. We loved the thin noodles, traditional 雪裡紅 and savory broth; plenty to share too. Xlb 6 in an order were well done with thin wrapper, tasty pork and filled with soup. Onion pancakes were pretty good as well. We had a great time and some leftovers to take home. Will be back next time when we have cravings for traditional shanghainese food.

Yelp
This place changed name or owner so many times that I kept on forgetting its current reincarnation. Apparently, they were all Shanghainese foods. It's a tough category for Chinese restaurants. Very popular and many discriminating customers who demand authenticity. If you are not one of those, it is very eatable. Accept it as a normal Chinese restaurant, order what suit you, and you are likely to be satisfied. If you are one of those experts on Shanghai cuisines. You are likely to be disappointed. They deviated for whatever reasons and those typical Shanghai dishes are not what you expected. XLB, for example, did not come with ginger and the vinegar is not quite right either. The claypot rice was an innovation that works. Also it wasn't authentic, it was well done. The simple veggie dish was the big miss. Way too tough, should have culled more. This is basic.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with my family on Mother's Day weekend after walking around the San Jose Rose Garden. We used to come here a lot for their sheng jian bao (SJB) and xiao long bao (XLB). when it was called Shanghai No 1. Not sure if it's just a rebranding with the same management, but the restaurant and menu looked similar to its predecessor. I'm glad they kept the inside of the restaurant because it's just beautiful. With the art, red booths, lanterns, and wooden furniture, it always feels like I'm stepping back in time into Old Shanghai. After waiting for ~45 minutes, we were called to our table. Like previously, we scanned the QR code at our table to order. Our order: 蟹粉小笼包 Crab Roe Soup Dumplings ($13.95): +Juicy crab & pork filling encased in thin skins +XLB were topped with crab roe for an extra punch of flavor 生煎包 Pan-fried Buns ($13.95): +Juicy pork filling +Black sesame seeds and scallions added color and fragrance. -SJB were fluffy, but the bottoms were hard and soaked in grease. -Looked deflated 上海炒年糕 Shanghai Stir-Fried Rice Cake ($14.95): +Rice cakes were chewy. +Bamboo shoots and cabbage were crisp and pork was tender. -Dish as a whole was salty and the sliced shiitake mushrooms tasted like they were brined. -Very greasy: As you can see in my picture, there's a pool of oil at the bottom -Bamboo shoots were missing and there was barely any cabbage & shiitake mushrooms. 糖醋小排 Shanghai Style Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs ($13.95): +Sesame seeds added color and fragrance. -Pork riblets were crispy, but unfortunately they were fried too long b/c the meat was dry as the dessert. -Glaze ran sour: It was lacking the balance between the soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar. Side notes: 1.) Free parking in The Marketplace lot *Verdict: 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 d/t service. IMO Shanghai No 1 always had mid service but it's been our family's go-to for XLB and SJB d/t the good food and reasonable prices. We've been here for holidays but they just didn't seem prepared. We had to ask for plates, utensils, and water. They ran out of soup spoons for the XLB. On the plus side, food came out pretty quickly. After today's experience, it might be a while before we come back.

Yelp
I had dinner here with a friend on a weekday night and had higher expectations. We ordered 6 dishes; pork soup dumplings, fried pork dumplings, cucumbers, razor clams, eggplant, and shrimp noodles which are a seasonal special. The initial waitress who helped us didn't know much about the menu because it was her first day. She told us we needed to place our order using the QR code which we did. Food came out fast. The only dishes we liked were the razor clams, eggplant and cucumbers. The pork soup dumplings had a thick skin and ripped apart when gently picked up. I had much higher expectations for the soup dumplings since this is what they are known for. The shrimp noodles and fried pork dumplings were nothing memorable. When my friend and I were done eating, it took us a while to get the attention of a waiter for to go boxes. When we finally did, the waitress yelled, "Okay, okay" really loud in a rude manner. I don't think I'll come back to eat here.

Yelp
Big dining restaurant with beautiful, traditional Chinese decor. I've been here about three times. I had ordered a few of the same items and ordered something new as well. My most favorite is the steamed scallop and pan fried buns. I don't have the pic of it but the squirrel fish is quite impressive and the taste is unique. Overall, all of the food is seasoned well and it's a great opportunity to try Shanghainese food. My friends and I also enjoyed the xiao long bao. It's the juicy soup is so yummy and the crab meat is so tender. The staff are also very friendly and give excellent service. The only thing I would just mention is that some of the dishes can be a bit pricey. Overall, I would love to come back here again! :)

Yelp
Shanghai bun dynasty is one of my go to Chinese restaurants in Cupertino! It is located in a popular plaza surrounded by lots of good food! I've come to this location multiple times when they were called Shanghai #1 and this was my first time with the name change. Despite this, it was good find out the food hadn't changed one bit! At Shanghai, you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes however lately I've been really liking their dumplings! Their pan fried dumplings and XLB are so good and served steaming hot. The beef roll and green beans are a must try. The service is always great despite being fairly busy! I recommend coming close to opening to avoid the rush. Always recommend

Yelp
Pretty good food and open very early in the morning (10 am). We are very satisfied and happy with the food. The only downside is the waiting time for food. We waited about 15-20 mins for the first dish.

Yelp
Trying this place out. Had good Yelp ratings and reviews. Service was ok for a Saturday night.l (may be under staffed)We ordered xlb (4), pan fried bun (4), braised pork w quail eggs had good flavor (3.5) savory sticky rice roll, had good filling but the rice was abundant & mushy) (2), Shanghai noodles and Shanghai rice cake had great flavor (a little bit on the salty side) (3) sweet & sour ribs, not crispy but had great flavor (3), pan fried buns (4) and hot & sour soup, more sour than hot (3). Decor is very unique and dated to the Shanghai era. Would recommend to try. A 3.5 rating

Yelp
Had the crab and pork XLB, pan fried dumpling, spicy wonton and Dan Dan noodles. For dessert, had the brown sugar sticky rice. The crab and pork XlLB was the best of the of the dishes. Could taste the crab in the soup along with some ginger flavor. Good filling wrapper ratio because the wrapper was not too thick. Pan fried dumplings were good too. The slightly sweet flavor of the dumpling complemented the porky meat filling. The Spicy Wonton soup had big pie of pork filled wontons. Probably the biggest wontons I've had in a wonton soup. The wontons were good but I didn't like the greens that were in the soup. I think it's mustard leaves which ad a very strong flavor that it competed with milder wonton flavor. The actual soup didn't look spicy but there's quite a bit of kick in it. The Dan Dan noodles was a 2.0. out of 5.0. Nice presentation. It's served cold. Was just ok. I added sugar, soy sauce and hot chili oil which made it so much better. The sticky rice with brown sugar was good. Sticks of fried sticky rice so slightly crispy outside and soft rice inside. The rice sticks were drizzled with brown sugar syrup and sprinkled with toasted soy bean powder. Restaurant was not full but the food came out slow with the dishes coming out one by one in a stretch of 15 min from 1st dish to last dish. Price was reasonable for the amount of food. Staff were nice and friendly.

Yelp
The service was not good. The lady that serve me was rude and not friendly. There was also a customer, he was an older, big gentleman who was rude and loud that sat next to us and he gave us an uncomfortable vibe and the staff didn't do anything. He kept talking to us but gave us the creepy vibe. The food was good though.

Yelp
a good spot not the best but it's decent to fix those cravings for Shanghai dishes I was actually surprised all the vegetarian dishes were bomb- the vegetarian dumplings, stir fried potatoes (had a nice spice kick), and spicy chicken were great. The xiao long bao on the other hand had a weird flavor. Almost like sour meat or sour dumpling skin, we weren't able to eat this so would probably rate down two stars for this. Service was fast you order via QR code at the table and they bring out food. Also have free tea which seems like a rarity nowadays instead of water. Ambiance is a nice Chinese dining experience but nothing extravagant

Yelp
Checked out the newly rebranded Shanghai Bun Dynasty (formerly Shanghai No. 1) in Cupertino, and they're serving up some serious Shanghai flavors. Here's what we ordered: Cucumber salad--super fresh, giving Din Tai Fung vibes. Meat & Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao--delicate, juicy, and definitely made in-house. Steamed cabbage + pork dumplings & pan-fried buns--both so good. Scallion pancake--crispy and flaky in all the right ways. Stir-fried garlic string beans--simple but packed with flavor. Shanghai rice cakes + scrambled egg shrimp fried rice--classic comfort food. Spicy pork wontons--delicious, but not super spicy. Crispy tofu--light and crispy, perfect to share. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were solid for the price. It got busier the longer we stayed, so plan ahead! Service could've been better, but I'd definitely come back for the food alone. the food took a while to get all of it but that's to be expected.

Yelp
Great food! We got 4 dishes and rice. The braised pork belly came with tofu that was neatly designed/braided and the tenderness and flavor was amazing! The salt pepper fish was good and had some bell pepper veggies mixed in. We had both the pan fried and XLB soup dumplings, and probably the best soup we have had flavor wise inside! The pan fried ones had some burnt ones which were not very good. Our last dish was the fried milk which had a great flavor! Inside was very nice and clean, decent amount of seats. The service could have been better. We had to go out of our way to ask for things like water, check, to go boxes, since it's all a QR code ordering system and didn't have an option for those. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
Pretty good/solid. Generally enjoyed the food. The hot sour soup could use more spiciness or pepper it wasn't really hot at all. The salted egg shrimp was also just ok. I recommend the xiao long bao, shen jian bao, and the beef wrap rolls. The crab roe meatball was also really good. The squirrel fish was tasty and def a signature dish. Wouldn't mind coming back if I was in the area. The Shanghai rice cakes were very tempting.

Yelp
Craving Chinese food? This place has pretty great options and portion sizes! The food is authentic, the prices are reasonable, and the service is decent! Like any other traditional Chinese restaurant, the restaurant was a little on the smaller side, but had plenty of seating and lots of round tables with lazy Susan's! My family and I really enjoyed the XLB, Steamed Scallops, and Braised Pork Belly with Quail eggs! Would I come here again, def! Especially since it's across the way from the Sanrio shop which we went right after dinner! lol

Yelp
We ate here when it was under different ownership. I've had Shanghainese style food all over the place, and this restaurant is satisfactory in terms of the food quality and flavor. The interior has a western Shanghainese feel, service is fine. I enjoyed the Shanghai fried dumpling and spicy fish. Definitely try this place out.
google avatar

Yelp
This definitely fulfilled our cravings. We came on a Sunday evening and were seated immediately since it wasn't super busy. Ordering was quick and easy through the QR code. Service was prompt. The interior decor gave off old Shanghai and it was relaxing. Food: * Spicy Pork Wontons: Broth was a bit bland. We did choose less oil so not sure if that had to do with seasoning. The wontons were soft and the pork filling was smaller than expected, but still packed with flavor. * Spicy Braised Beef Noodle Soup: We chose less oil for the soup and it tasted a little bland as well. The broth did have a spicy and numbing kick to it, but not too strong. Luckily, we made a soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil dipping mixture that added more flavor to the noodle soup and pork wontons. The noodles were the right consistency and I thoroughly enjoyed it. * Crab Roe Soup Dumplings: Soo yummy. Almost all of them did rip a bit as we tried to get them off the paper, but the juices weren't all lost. The filling + juices were packed with umami flavor from the crab. Definitely a favorite. * Braised Beef wrap with poached egg (not pictured): Another favorite of ours. The beef was moist and tender in a flavor bomb of a marinade. It was sweet and savory. The cucumbers gave a refreshing/crunchy texture and taste. We did order pan fried buns, but they didn't make it out. It was honestly a blessing since we were incredibly full already. Overall, everything we had was solid and would definitely come back!

Yelp
Wow! There are no words to describe how amazing the food was! This is my second time visiting Shanghai Bun Dynasty, and it still remains the best. I absolutely love the XLB (soup dumplings). Oh my goodness, the broth was heavenly! They also have new items on the menu, like Triple Shrimp Noodles and smoked fish. The Triple Shrimp Noodles were a show-stopper for me! It was so delicious that when a customer at the next table tried it, she said, "Next time, I will order that." I'm telling you, it's that good. It's authentic Shanghai cuisine in the Bay Area. The service is okay, but there can be some miscommunication due to the language barrier. However, we all share a common goal: to enjoy great food. The interior is beautiful, like it's straight out of a palace. If you're craving some fantastic XLB, you absolutely need to come here!

Rachel C.

Yelp
Quick service, got our orders in efficiently, and gave us recommendations on what to order.

Yelp
Authentic Shanghai Cuisine It has recently been rebranded and now offers a variety of dishes. The service was friendly and fast. We tried several dishes, and my top favorites were the scallion oil noodles, basil-flavored eggplant, and Shanghai ham and vegetable fried rice. They also have a few large tables in the dining room, making it a great spot for gatherings with friends or family. Can't wait to go back and try more from the menu!
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow especially when there weren't as many people in the restaurant. Perhaps they were short staffed and still in grand opening phase. At least the staff were very kind and polite though. The crab XLB and salt and pepper fish were very delicious!! The soup dumplings were so juicy, skin was thin and still managed to hold the soup together. Scallop were interesting and fun to eat. Neat presentation but kinda oily. I enjoyed the pan fried buns. Duck needed a tad bit more soy sauce so we added some more. Wonton soup was so good especially with some of the fried rice. We added the chili oil to the scrambled egg shrimp rice which was great combo! I would come back for crab XLB and salt and pepper fish alone. Great pricing point and satisfied my cravings.

Yelp
Beyond fantastic!!! It's been hard for me to find good Shanghainese food in the Bay but FINALLY! Shanghai Bun Dynasty has really done it. They have taken over the previous "Shanghai No.1" and their food is incredible and really fresh. I tried a total of 10 dishes here, but my top picks would be the Pan-fried buns (sooo juicy and flavorful), Scallion-oil mixed noodles (best i've tried so far), tofu crab with roe (light, custardy, slightly salty), and the Shanghai Ham & Vegetables Rice (an absolute classic). Everything else I tried (in pics below) was super good too! Portions are big, everything comes out piping hot, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. The only dish I'd skip on is the Spicy Pork Wontons which were a bit bland and lacking filling. Service is what you'd expect from an authentic Chinese restaurant. You order from a QR code and they bring you your food. Interior is very spacious with tons of seating. Overall amazing spot to bring large groups and share tons of yummy authentic Shanghai food!

Yelp
Excellent authentic Shanghainese food in the Silicon Valley. Located in the busy Tokyo Central shopping center, the restaurant can be hard to find and parking can be even harder, but I assure you it's worth it. * bean curd skin stuffed with pork meatball - a unique dish and very tasty, like little 'lion cub's heads' * pork soup dumpling - very juicy but they don't give you shredded ginger unless you ask. * tofu skin salad - good and refreshing * stewed pork belly & quail eggs - savory and very tender * rice cake with veggie and pork strips - FAVORITE dish! GET IT! * drunken chicken - all sold out, Bummer. Only dislike is you are required to order from a QR code menu. I am old school (or just plain old fogey) and prefer ordering from a waiter so I can ask questions and get recommendations.

Yelp
Honestly everything we got was very tasty! This place felt a little pricey but we ordered a lot of food. Loved: string green beans, scallion noodles Liked: egg yolk tofu Good but would pass : pan fried veggie bun Food was a touch oily but I think that was more what we ordered as opposed to the actual food. Place was pretty empty on a weekday night but well decorated. Service was slightly slow still. They had a delicious complimentary tea. Would return to try more things in the future!

Yelp
I like it. The two most important thing is the nice atmosphere and the food. Lots of selection and the quality is great.
google avatar

Herman L.

Yelp
Def a new dumpling spot to try out! Everything is made fresh to go! All the noodle dishes were really good. I love the scallion chilli oil noodle even though it was simple it was my favorite. The corn egg soup was very unique never had it with corn before so I def liked it. All the servers were really nice and attentive. Def go there early as there is a line during peak hours.

Yelp
Rating: 3.75/5 This restaurant has a wide variety of menu items like XLB's, potstickers, noodles, soup, and more! I like the fact that the menu has pictures so you visually know how every dish looks like--especially if you're not familiar with this type of cuisine. Ordering was pretty simple, just scan the QR code and order by phone. Ordered: Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs (meat was a bit tough to chew and sauce was more on the sweet side) Crab Roe Soup Dumplings (bit too doughy, but flavor and filling is good) Pan-fried Buns Shrimp and Pork Potstickers (enjoyed the crispness) Stir Fried Eggs with Shrimp Crispy Salt and Pepper Fish Fillets Yangzhou Fried Rice (enjoyed the amount of shrimp they put into the rice) Shanghai Stir Fried Noodles (so-so, added soy sauce and chili oil for more flavor) West Lake Beef Stew (a bit watery, adding chili oil made up for the lack of flavor. I usually like my soups more thickened) The highlight was the stir fried eggs with shrimp, pan-fried buns, and the crispy salt and pepper fish fillets. The stir fried eggs with shrimp is so simple, yet tasty and comforting. I like the fact that it wasn't wet compared to other places I've tried. The pan-fried buns were slightly crispy on the outside and juicy and flavorful on the inside (had a good amount of meat on the inside). The fish fillets were nicely cooked and fried to perfection and wasn't overly salted. I enjoyed the cultural interior decoration and atmosphere of this place.
google avatar

Robert Y.

Yelp
Westlake soup came piping hot. It was tasty, light on the salt but that is probably a good thing. The chive pancake/eggroll was very good. It was very crispy with lots of chives in the middle. I would pass on it next time because it was about 5$ for each eggroll (there is only one pictured). If it came with 3 it would be worth it. Lastly, the mushroom potstickers were excellent. They were very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The inside of the restaurant was fairly full and the decor was old school Chinese style. It took a while for our food to come out, but the quality and taste of the food made up for it. Overall, I would go back and eat here again.

Yelp
Great service and food, feels just like I am transported back to China! I really enjoyed the squirrel fish as it was very flavorful and it was very similar to what I got to eat in China two years ago!

Yelp
Visited for the first time this past weekend & really enjoyed it! The restaurant is really cute / has a vintage vibe to it with the decor & our food tasted great. We tried the crab roe soup, braised duck, sweet & sour chicken, shrimp & pork potstickers, Shanghai noodles, & the fried milk / lotus desserts. You can order everything from the menu QR which is really convenient & it all came out very quickly.

Yelp
They do not use the yelp reservation system! I showed up with my family of nine for Father's Day including two fathers and a grandfather. They told me they did not actually use the Yelp reservation system and the arrangements I had made over a week ago we're not on their paper books. Thankfully we were early enough and they still had a table large enough to seat us. But how about disabling the Yelp system for your restaurant if you don't recognize it?! I hope this review helps other people avoid potential disasters with parties or family events. The food also came out very slowly and one of our dishes never showed up until we asked for the check and for it to be removed. Dishes were very tasty but service can definitely be improved to have a more reasonable pace of delivery throughout the meal.

Yelp
Good food decent service. The kids really enjoyed it that we recommended. Pretty authentic food.

Yelp
My favorite place for shengjianbao - I haven't found a better place in the Bay yet! Meaty and very juicy, with tender dough, always super hot and fresh. They also have many classic Shanghai dishes that can be hard to find elsewhere - kofu, savory soy milk, smoked fish, eel, fantuan, and more. Definitely a good option for any Shanghai food craving and a lot more variety than most other Shanghai-focused restaurants. Going here during slow times (near opening, or between lunch/dinner rush) is ideal. I went around 11am on a Saturday this week, was seated quickly, and dishes came out at a reasonable pace. The restaurant proceeded to fill up over the next 30min as parties trickled in. Wait staff were nice and prompt, and they're now using a website with a QR code to take orders, which I honestly prefer. The kitchen tends to get overwhelmed when rushes hit - I once ordered takeout here on CNY eve and it was not pretty! I think it took me over 90min to get my takeout order, they forgot an item, and the whole hour I was waiting in the restaurant I got to witness how dine-in groups were also waiting ages for their food despite the wait staff's best efforts. That was the first time I ever had food from this spot, and I was fuming when I got home way, way later than expected - and STILL, the shengjianbao were so amazing I decided I would have to go back. Since then I choose to go at lower-traffic times for dine-in, and have always had a great experience. So with that caveat, I would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Good food, yummy food, it reminds me of my home town food. They have good promotions, very generous deals.

Yelp
Service is complete show, and not in a good way. Should have known when it said sponsored advertising on Yelp. Food is ok, portions are small. Food came out slow for every dish and I'm still waiting here trying to pay my bill as I write this review. Don't bother even coming here unless you want to leave disappointed. Better off going to HOME EAT!!!!

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Went for lunch on a Saturday and there was not wait. Ordered meat soup dumplings, crab roe soup dumplings, salty egg fried tofu, and three shrimp noodles. Soup dumplings were both tasty with a good amount of soup. Salty egg fried tofu was lightly fried and nicely soft in the middle, though it could've used more salty egg. The three shrimp noodle was disappointing. Saw something on instagram promoting it and while there was a good amount of (boiled?) shrimp, it was lacking in flavor. Overall I would come again for the soup dumplings.

Yelp
This is a review for the Xiao Long Bao and the Fantuan (Rice Roll). These items were both pretty mediocre. The Xiao Long Bao's broth was murky and it wasn't a nice clean soup. It was also quite bland unfortunately. However, the dumplings had a lot of pork inside. The Fantuan was pretty bland as well. The rice was too sticky and the filling was not very plentiful. Barely any pork floss :( I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
The service was really fast! I like that they give you a pitcher of water to self serve. I ordered the braised pork belly, pork XLB, pan fried dumplings, vegetable fried rice and cucumber salad. The braised pork belly was very flavorful but very chewy. The XLB and pan fried dumplings were super juicy and the broth inside was flavorful as well. Vegetable fried rice appearance wise it looks bland; but I was shocked on its taste! This was the first fried rice I've tasted that has flavor! Cucumber salad was delicious as well. Overall, the restaurant is very clean and the servers were really nice. When it comes to the servers, after they bring you your food, they don't come over to your table until dishes need to be cleared or when you wave them over for assistance. This is something I find very respectful. 8/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Had such a great experience here. The staff was incredibly kind to us! Really fancy and fun interior. Service was fantastic and food was delicious. I am obsessed with the spicy wontons and Shanghai stir-fried noodles. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place takes so many different names lol. Jokes aside, we actually liked the food and service here. Starting with the food, it's a fairly authentic Shanghainese menu with some extra Taiwanese items. We ordered the marinated eel, crab meatball, tofu with salted egg yolk, and saltwater duck. All of them tasted authentic and yummy, for which I would return. The price is not crazy expensive (if you live in the Bay Area in 2024 you know what I mean). The service is pretty good. Only minor complaint is it's busy and food doesn't come up very quickly (maybe coz the dishes are cooked to order?). Would highly recommend to anyone looking for some good Shanghainese cuisine.

Yelp
I have been to Shanghai and have great memories of the food there. I am always looking to find those flavors in the US. Located in Cupertino, Shanghai Bun brings classic flavors like the pan fried buns, braised pork belly. This is real comfort food, so prepare to feast. The staff was extremely friendly and it's like I stepped into someone's home when it came to the flavors and atmosphere. I felt a type of family hospitality. The dishes are elevated and they give huge portions of everything. There's plenty of space, so it is good to have celebrations and bring groups here. The price is Bay Area prices, but I feel the ambience and banquet hall experience is worth.

Yelp
Immediately walking into this restaurant, I got flashbacks of having dinner with my family for special occasions. We used to frequent a similar establishment back home. To me, this place looks like a classic Chinese restaurant with ornate dining chairs and matching wall decor. The service was good. They checked in on us enough that we only had to ask for help once, when we were packing up our leftovers. The food was also reminiscent of my, previously mentioned, family dinners. We tried a variety of proteins, sides, dim sum, and soups. Everything was delicious. My favorites were the hot and sour soup, sweet and sour chicken, and braised eggplant. Would visit again when I'm looking for Chinese food.

Yelp
Truthfully I expected so much more from this place. Maybes its because they were short staffed, but I didn't feel too welcomed the day I stopped by. I am new to this cuisine so it would've been nice to have been recommended popular new items they are offering now. No one really said anything to us, we just ordered by scanning a QR code. We kind of just picked what we thought would be the best and we did enjoy our scallion pancakes, kung pao chicken, fried rice (our fav) but something was missing in the rest of the food we ordered. It didn't feel as fresh or hot as I'm used to. Maybe it was an off day in the kitchen. I have hope for this place, it's a gorgeous restaurant and I know it has potential! Maybe I'll give it another try in the future, and try out some other items like their soup options.

Yelp
Came in on Easter Sunday and was seated immediately. Ordered via app. Service was quick and the food was delicious. Restaurant is family friendly so prepare for noise. We really enjoyed the Sichuan Boiled Fish Fillet. Would come back with a bigger group to try more next time.

Yelp
First time here. Food is pretty good. Service a bit slow. They leave the front door open so it gets cold and the smell of smoke from cigarettes also gets inside the restaurant. Inside looks okay but a bit over decorated in my opinion. The XLB is very tasty and has a lot of soup, however if you're comparing it with DTF, then the skin is just a bit thicker than DTF.
