Overall nice lunch spot. 4 stars as I was going to order sushi but was informed it starts at 5pm not available for lunch :-( so I got the eggplant lunch dish and it was good! Big portion and tasty. No complaints and helpful waiters. The bathrooms were big and clean but the floors were sticky so that was another reason for the 4/5 review. Overall nice place!

Google
The food sucks. The employees are fake. They give you fake smile and fake service. They always make a mistake in your order. Shame on them. I will never go back there again. It’s not the first time it won’t be their last. I gave them any chances. they’re very disrespectful, dishonest it’s not worth going there. The food smells. It’s like hit or miss. …. It’s never fresh. It’s always pre-heated they make it I believe days before it’s sold so it’s not fresh again. As for me I will never go there again. I will not eat their food if you pay me.

Google
Very simple: Food is exceptional, service is good, atmosphere is (depending on the time you're there) a little loud and chaotic. But, most importantly, the food is terrific.

Sally Goodman

Google
Food here is pretty good, pretty generic but not too bad. Not greasy, not over sweet. Come here pretty often with friends. They have a nice drink menu and bar, and the atmosphere is very comfortable and slightly upscale. Service is either great, or mediocre, really depends on who you get. But overall I've been happy more often than not.

Shay

Google
Food quality is the worst I have had. I never leave reviews but I could not pass on this one. So disappointed, the beef they used for the beef pan fried noodles is not real beef, it tastes like a cat. Egg rolls and wings are so soggy. Never again

Jonnie Rozin

Google
Incredible to say the least. Such a classic spot. Authentic American Chinese delicacies. White table cloths. Comfy booths. Your childhood Chinese spot. And it’s kosher. Can’t beat it. I’d eat here even if I didn’t keep kosher.

Maui Boy

Google
The menu is diverse and full of flavorful dishes. The Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) are absolutely a must-try — delicate, juicy, and packed with flavor. The Shanghainese-style braised pork was another standout, tender and perfectly seasoned. Everything we ordered came out fresh and beautifully presented.

Google
Most horrible experience ever ! And rude customer service . My friend and I ordered 2 of the kung pao beef not only was the meat undercooked and tasted like rubber but it gave us both the stomach flu. We were throwing up all night . The least they could have done was to take it back for a refund . Don’t recommend this place unless you want to get sick like us .

Yelp
PLEASE tell me where you're going to get GLATT KOSHER Chinese/Sushi better than this on the West Coast?! You're not, so adjust accordingly. Anyone who's eaten or cooked non-Kosher Chinese food will ABSOLUTELY tell you that they have tweaked this food to our culture in the best possible way. The food is hot, fresh, cooked by chefs who have been doing this 20+ years, many of the recipes have come from the owner and his wife- who came here from China years ago and have created an amazing and long lasting relationship with our Kosher culture. Let's not forget THE SUSHI. Their sushi chef has been with them almost as long as the owners and WILL NOT serve fish HE personally believes isn't up to par. I have SEEN him refuse people rolls because whatever fish he got in that day just didn't make the cut. People can get mad about the availability of the food all they want- I'd rather have a restaurant that cares about its patrons. The owner and manager David will give anything, do anything, and go out of his way to help ANYONE with ANYTHING they need while dining in or taking out- and he will absolutely do it with the biggest smile. The front desk girls are helpful and professional- understanding the abrasive attitude many people of the community attempt to assimilate to American culture and counteracting it with a smile and kind words. In short- if you haven't tried Shanghai and you keep kosher, you're absolutely missing out. And if you're not kosher- the lunch special just became your new best friend.

Yelp
Stopped by on Monday night with 2 others, and it was quite busy! Luckily we were seated right away. There were big groups of people gathered - even a birthday party in the side room!! The ambiance was nice and fun. The staff was kind, and our food came out quickly. Everyone enjoyed their meals! Portions were decently sized. We were able to finish our meals but felt very full. It wasn't the best Chinese food ever, but it was solid. A bit pricier, about $33 for each of our dishes after tax/tip. Overall, I would order takeout here if I wanted some convenient Chinese food near me. Didn't amaze me but didn't dislike it. Parking: Plenty of paid street parking nearby

Yelp
We order all the time through Postmates and it's normally decent. This time, my son almost choked on a piece of plastic from the lo mein.

Yelp
$30.00 for uncooked hard no sauce noodles. This place is TRASH! Every single time my office orders from this place..it's a complete disappointment. Didn't want to even give it one star. TRASHHHHH Delivery container had leaked, grease all over the bag. Meat had zero flavor. Noodles that were edible had zero flavor, tasted like greasy gravy. Threw both plates out. Never again.

Eli I.

Yelp
Disgusting food instead of chicken chicken skin all over the food shame I don't go to that place in my life anymore. It's not worth the money for it all shame again.

Yelp
The service is nice and the atmosphere is conducive to families and large groups. The food was unfortunately very lacking. The sushi tasted spoiled. The only thing we liked was the chicken corn soup but sadly that's not saying much...

Yelp
I have always loved Shanghai Diamond Garden. The egg rolls are by far the best I've ever had! It's also got a very nice big restaurant. A great place for a nice date.

Yelp
First, I want to say I don't like writing bad reviews. We need local restaurants and businesses to succeed, so it pains me to have to say this. Shanghai Garden, you need to do better. We ordered Tofu Lo Mein, Beef & Broccoli, and Eggplant takeout, and it was swimming in so much oil, you couldn't tell what the food was. The containers were so greasy, I had to wash my hands after opening them. It was totally inedible, completely tasteless, not to mention ridiculously expensive. Three dishes came to $72. We ended up throwing everything out and vowing never to go back. What a waste and disappointment. Shanghai Garden, please do better. Clean up your food. Use less oil. Make it healthier. Add some flavor. And don't rip us off for the experience. Wishing you the best of luck.

Dovi S.

Yelp
Great food and such friendly service. The orange chicken is out of this world. I couldn't put down my chopsticks. Ten out of ten would recommend.
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
Most of the time, the food here is fire. I usually get the crispy shredded chicken. A little pricey, but honestly that's normal for kosher food these days. Clean place and the cashier usually helping me is usually pretty friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! Sizzling chicken and beef. Its amzing! I love it! Anyone love chinese food come to try this!

Michael S.

Yelp
I ordered food for pick up. When I came home, I saw that the eggrolls were missing. I called them to get a refund for the eggrolls, but they said they do not give refunds. Only credit. Is this how a business should be run?

Yelp
Shanghai is a large, very well-appointed fine-dining Chinese restaurant that also has great sushi. They have an extensive menu and specialize in significant events. The best part is they are also fully Kosher. The mains were enormous; we got three mains to share between two people and had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. We recommend the orange chicken (soo good). Lo mein wasn't anything special. Service wasn't too bad. The downside is it's very pricey for what it is. Authentic American Chinese delicacies. White tablecloths. Comfy booths. It feels like an authentic Chinese place.

S S.

Yelp
Whatever you do, do not eat at Shanghai Diamond Garden. I ordered chicken and broccoli and they just put stems and also there was a piece of bone. Here's a photo of the stems. I contacted the restaurant and they refused to do anything about it. Terrible service and awful food. Go anywhere else if you value good food and respect. I'd give zero stars if I could.
google avatar

Flora Z.

Yelp
The restaurant is very noisy. Tables are way too close to each other. I came on a weekend night so I bumped into a lot of over-active kids and a lot of families talking loudly. The menu options are not authentic Chinese food at all. They are made for non-Chinese. Though the restaurant includes Shanghai as part of its name, the food has nothing to do with Shanghai cuisines. The tea is made with Stash tea bags. The mushu chicken I ordered looks different from the traditional mushu. Here it is more like mushu burrito. The mushu itself tastes good but the burrito doesn't do anything more than a carrier.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance was amazing. I went with my family and really enjoyed

Yelp
First time reviewer here!! Tonight was my first time to eat kosher Chinese food and it was pretty good! The main protein we were served was beef and I know there's something about pork cuz it wasn't served at all. The food was pretty good. The service is the reason for the 3 star rating honestly. It took the restaurant staff SO LONG to get the food out to or table. I noticed at other tables, their food was coming out fast. I also noticed that we were the only table that had majority non Jewish people at our table. Coincidence? Not sure but maybe. Besides the slow service, the servers themselves were nice to all of us. Ambiance is not so special. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend this establishment? Yes.
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
Their food is wonderful. But they just don't know how to handle food deliveries. This is the third time in a a row they forgot to add the chili oil I recommended and forgot to add utensils. Such basic things. Get your act together Shanghai.

Yelp
The service & food has gone downhill as of recently. All the waiters had no clue of the goings on. Serving food with no plates, ignoring us, waiting forever for our check when they were all standing around. The food was awful. I think most of the items were frozen. The egg rolls were terrible. Very greasy and super well done. Fast food is better than this place and 1/2 the price. It seemed like another commercial boring restaurant with exorbitant prices and bad quality. We came at about 2:30 and it was very hot outside and inside. The owner shuts down the AC at odd times to conserve energy and it was boiling in the restaurant. I would NOT recommend anyone going to Shanghai. There are plenty of other Chinese Kosher Restaurant's.

Ozzie L.

Yelp
The BEST kosher Chinese food I have ever had. The owner and waiters are very nice and the food is amazing. Food comes fast, and they even give you nice snacks before your food comes. 5 stars would recommend.

Yelp
Very great kosher food west Los Angeles! Best Chinese food around. Very friendly and accommodating. Definitely will be back.

Inbal P.

Yelp
I am sorry to give this local kosher restaurant only 3 stars. The food is good. Service is slow. Extremely slow. Drivers are complaining all the time that they make them wait 20-40 min more than they promised. Prices are just way too high for the quality and the portions. $25 for a small personal tray of chicken and big chunks of bell pepper?!! $4 for crispy wonton to top your soup? This restaurant, like many other kosher ones just taking advantage of the Jewish community. Very sad.
google avatar

Yelp
I like this place. Shanghai Diamond Garden serves tasty Chinese comfort food and the service is great. My favorites include their Orange Beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken dishes. Five stars.
google avatar

Yelp
my very pregnant wife LOVES this place. especially their egg rolls and the pan fried dumplings cant go wrong with the orange chicken 10/10 soups are always great 10/10 dont use door dash or postmates to order sushi after 7pm also with take out or "to-go" orders they wont supply utensils kinda a bummer

Yelp
Our office (party of 9) came here last week for our holiday celebration dinner. From cocktails to appetizers to main courses, the service was wonderful and the food & drink superb! A great place for dinner for two or for a bigger party. I had a ribeye dinner which was shredded beef in a light sauce with onions and it was fantastic; I'll be going back soon just for that! As for the cocktails, they go down easy but pack a real punch! :)

Yelp
Came here for the first time, and had mixed feelings about it. The food wasn't bad. Our waiter was great! Everything was good about the resturaunt itself. It's just, there was a female that worked there and was in the back and everything and didn't wear a mask (where the food is being handled). And she was SO LOUD. Like, we're trying to eat peacefully and you can hear her talk and laugh a mile away. I'm not trying to be mean or rude or anything, but when I go somewhere to eat, I'm trying to relax and enjoy myself, not hear annoying noises. There was just no need to be loud. Anyway, I got the shredded beef, orange chicken, and vegetable low mein. It was great! And the fact that it's kosher, awesome! Not much kosher Chinese food places to choose from. Parking was pretty hard: meters or the back street where it's free (read the sign though cause of street cleaning). Other than that, might just order food to go next time!

Yelp
consistently good food in the restaurant. take out doesn't travel very well. the service was great. we were 9 people and I didn't want left overs. I told our server and gave great guidance. we finished everything and everyone was satisfied. my only problem with the place is that there are so many families and not everyone supervises their children. sometimes they are very loud or they are jumping on the chairs. I don't hold the SDG responsible for this, I just wish people watched their kids more closely.
google avatar

Helen J.

Yelp
To tell the truth i have tried 1 item from their menu and it was crispy chicken and it was delicious. But seriously i need a loan to afford the food. Very expensive

Anisha M.

Yelp
Really great for Chinese takeout! Love it here! Their sesame beef is my favorite! Quick and easy ordering and delivery

Cindy C.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I do not support this place. I am a new mom living in the neighborhood. They wouldn't allow me to keep my stroller next to the table. I asked if I could keep my car seat at the table. They told me no. They have screaming kids in this restaurant but my new born who's sleeping can't have his own stroller. I feel racially profiled by this restaurant. Why because we're an interracial couple. My husband is constantly being stared at. Im completely uncomfortable.
google avatar

Harry Z.

Yelp
Kitchen staff keeps lying the front of the house about when the orders will be ready, ultimately costing the delivery drivers money, since we're not hourly workers. The management should get their s#it together.

Shae B.

Yelp
I went there a Sunday night. You can usually find street parking. I have been there twice. Restaurant was busy but we were seated soon. Service was good. I got the Kung Pao Chicken and I guess if you are into oily Chinese Food, then it was good. I wish they would make it less oily. Rice was good and plentiful this time, but on the prior occasion it was a stingy amount. Portions sizes are inconsistent even though I got the same dish twice. Bathrooms were relatively clean. Unfortunately, the management presumes to include gratuity in the bill and therefore you are stuck paying that despite their shortcomings. The other problem is that they don't allow separate checks.
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
Decent but really nothing special. Only kosher Chinese that I'm aware of, so it is how it is.

Yelp
Shanghai is a large, very well appointed fine dining Chinese restaurant that also has great sushi. I had the sushi combo and the Hunan beef which tasted spectacular. The nigiri was super fresh and tasty. They have a very large menu and specialize in large events. The best part is they are also fully Kosher. Service is excellent and very prompt considering how large and busy they are. There is also a full bar and my bloody Mary was excellent. This is the best Kosher Chinese restaurant I have been to in LA.

Ian N.

Yelp
I came here tonight with a party of 5 with my in laws and the food was great they seated us right away and the owner and service from the service was incredible. I loved the orange chicken and all the Chinese beers they have. The ambiance is also great. I love the manager he's so kind

Yelp
First time here! I'm not a big fan of chinese food in general, so when it came to eating kosher on Pico, I frankly always ignore it, but my cousin wanted to come here for his bday. They were packed! There were 3 other large groups for bdays. I guess this is the place to come on your bday! The inside ambiance is fancier and nicer than expected from the outside. The booths are comfy and provide some privacy, but it was pretty loud in there. I feel like had to raise my voice to talk to the people across the table from me only 3 feet away. My family had been there before and recommended the sweet and sour soup, orange chicken (light sauce), veggie lo mein and we also ordered the beef and bok choy, chicken with snow peas, eggplant side dish and side of stemaed broccoli. We asked for light sauce on basically everything, and I'm glad we did; all of the dishes were great. I'm not a big fan of eggplant or the soup so I skipped those, but everything else was very tasty, especially the orange chicken (prob one of the best I've ever had!) and the beef with bok choy.

Jamie W.

Yelp
Chicken lo mein on point, orange chicken on points! And somehow believe it or not this sushi is better than any of the other local sushi joints!! Yellowtail roll was one of the freshest I've had in months! Plus, they have a full bar here now, michelada was okay, but there are other mixes are great
google avatar

Stefanie G.

Yelp
So i was so excited last time because they have a gluten free menu. And here I come again with my family and they try to poison me with gluten. I asked 4 times is this gluten free because it was deep fried and I was suspicious. Finally I ask for the manager, who of course does not show, and the waiter agrees to change the dish to a non deep fried dish. Seriously give me a hard time make me feel terrible all because I want to enjoy my food and not get stupidly sick.

Ella A.

Yelp
I am a teen that keeps kosher and as someone that loves Chinese food it sucks because there is never kosher Chinese options. i found shanghai when i first started going to Children's Hospital because of my kidney failure. i have diet restrictions so i order from shanghai as my cheat meal every Tuesday. my go to is the orange chicken or orange beef. honestly my only complaint is that i think that more of the sauce should be put on the orange chicken because sometimes it comes w the littlest amount. but apart from that i love eating from this restaurant, and i definitely recommend it! Thank you for everything the comfort of ur food has been getting me through my dialysis treatment! Maybe next time you'll notice me as "Rina" on postmates
google avatar

Claire F.

Yelp
Very old school restaurant. Seems like it hasn't been updated in a while. Food was good.

Trisha P.

Yelp
Shanghai is my go-to when it comes to Chinese fusion! They're orange chicken is better than any of the other places in the area, and they have a great balance of casual yet formal. You can come in for a business meeting, or even with a T-shirt and fit in just fine
google avatar

Bella E.

Yelp
Delicious food. Quick service They accommodate your needs without any fuss. I will ask to leave out certain veggies or do light sauce and they always get the order right. We have our favorites- kung pao chicken ( white meat version ) and wonton soup. Fast, friendly service.
google avatar

Firouzeh L.

Yelp
Thank you so much Mr. Dariush for your gracious hospitality this past week for my class reunion and for my friend's gathering. I want to thank you on behalf all of us for the amazing service we received while dining at your restaurant. Your staff went above and beyond to make sure we are happy. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Really good kosher Chinese so far never disappointed. I prefer the regular beef broccoli over their mongolian beef altho I hear the latter is more popular. I've also sat in the restaurant pre-covid and had several menu items all of which were really good. It's nice when the take out order is the same quality as their dine in.

Shelly R.

Yelp
Love this place, love the food, love the management! Mr A is awesome. The food is always tasty and fresh. The service is good, sometimes just okay, but most of the staff is helpful and friendly. Even the sushi is surprisingly fresh!
google avatar

Niki S.

Yelp
One of the biggest perks of this place is that they are one of the cleanest Kosher restaurants and they have great service. They also have a ton of options on their menu. However, I did not like any of the meals we have gotten on the multiple occasions that I have been here. Their orange chicken was not very tasty and their beef and broccoli tasted as if it had been microwaved before coming out. Their prices are also very high so your meal will come out to pretty expensive if you're coming here with a bigger group.
