"This Allston restaurant’s version of dry hot chicken (which the restaurant calls “Paradise Mountain” chicken) is perhaps the best in the city. Eat it with white rice, and be sure to scoop up every last bit of ginger, garlic, green onion, and fermented black beans. —TBD" - Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Terrence Doyle

Very authentic Shanghai food. Taste goes a little light but that’s usually how Shanghai food was made. Seat is a little small and space is tight, feel a bit crowded especially with kid. It has dim sum on weekend as well(not the same type of dim sum you could expect eating in Chinatown)

As a Shanghainese, I confirm the menu has some of the traditional Shanghai style dishes. The dishes we tried tasted very homemade, in a good way. Nothing too impressive though. Like the restaurant’s decor.

Pretty good. Authentic Chinese food. Just a tad bit bland but again more authentic than American Good portions Decent prices. Around $25 a person

We love the food at Shanghai Gate! Their menu is big, and we've eaten around on it a lot, and we've never been disappointed. From Garlic Eggplant to Yu Xiang Pork with Steamed Bao to Stir Fried Beef with Crueller (delicious) to Mapo Fish, it's all worth getting again. Definitely go if you're in the area! The beautiful wall art on the back of the restaurant doesn't hurt either.

I am international student here that I like the traditional shanghai food. I can say that it is delicious at least for me. I also like the service and the price!!!

As of today, no dine-in yet,but good food that comes out and stays hot. Packaging was great and the eggplant+dumplings were tasty.

Nothing really stands out. In fact, the scrambled eggs taste like cream brûlée with tons of sugar in it. The chicken has been frozen for a while, apparently. This is not AUTHENTIC Chinese food. Disappointed.

I've come 4 times, and have finally decided to stop. Taste is average, prices are average for the portions, service is average. Nothing really that stands out.
