Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport

Very big airport for a city (they have 2) and it’s very efficient. It’s clean, spacious, well managed. Signage is in bilingual. You have all kind of services you need. Domestic area is bigger than international area. Long walk for transit. For departure it is quite easy and the entire flow is continuous you wont feel lost. For arrival it’s easy too from the gate until ehailing all clear instruction and signage even first timer also won’t get lost. I like their ehailing arrangement so much that its clean and comfortable pickup area in the car park is very efficient.

This airport is quite large, very clean, and well-organized. The prices of items are not as expensive as in other countries. Lastly, I highly recommend that if you bring a power bank over 20,000 mAh, you arrive about 10 minutes earlier than usual to get an allowance letter.

Shanghai Hongqiao is definitely China’s best airport. Super close to city and not packed with people. Very clean and tidy. It’s well organized than any other airports in China.

Fantastic, modernized large airport. There is information centers and staff speak English. China Eastern Airlines Business Checkin Desks is in Section F.

This is a modern and huge airport right in the middle of the city. It is so convenient to get to and from as it is connected to the Metro and high speed rail. There are the usual international shops as well as plenty of domestic choices. The challenge is dealing with all the choices at the airport, high speed rail, or at the Metro. Best recommendation is to arrive early if you want to see and try everything!

Facilities have been substantially improved. Amazing improvement except the service attitude of customs staff. I don’t know how they can maintain such attitude for so many hours.

Checkin was smooth, security checks took 20minutes on its own, arrive early as the airport is pretty large too.

Despite being a small airport with relatively fewer flights, foreigners will realize that it takes time to get through immigration. I personally did not have any issues and took only a short amount of time when it was my turn at the immigration counter to enter the country, but for some reason, so many people took so long which delayed others. Check-in baggage came out relativy fast as well, it seems, but getting suitcases out through customs was again time-consuming as they asked for all bags to go through the X-ray machine. I saw that some people were indeed brought into an adjacent space with dividers, and their bags opened for further checking. If you’re flying into Hongqiai Airport, make sure you don’t have a time-sensitive meeting or train to catch. That said, the airport itself is connected to the subway Line 2, which stretches from Hongqiao Airport all the way to Pudong International Airport on the other end of the line. (Tip: If you arrive at Terminal 1, then you would have to go to the end of the line at Honqiao Airport Terminal and transfer there to go into the city. If you transfer at Terminal 2, you will have to pay double because you have to get out of the ticket gates, get back in, before continuing your trip into the city.)
