Best Beef Noodle Soups in Austin | Eater Austin

"It’s right there in the name of the far north Austin Chinese restaurant. The beef noodle soup comes with thin slices of beef shanks and chili oil in beef broth." - Lenny Dewi

Absolute hidden gem. Don’t let the unassuming storefront fool you — this place delivers. Classic hole-in-the-wall energy: no frills, just solid, flavorful Shanghai comfort food. The noodles are springy, the soup dumplings are legit, and the portions are generous. I’ve been back multiple times and it always hits the spot. If you know, you know. Love it.

Google
About as authentic as you can get! Excellent noodle soups, we also love the scallion oil noodles and any of the rice cake dishes. The spare ribs are our favorite in town. It is a small restaurant but plenty of tables and fast service. Great portions too, we always have leftovers!

Google
Not a very big place but just enough to enable parties of 5. The dishes are all served as family style so you should be prepared to share. The prices are really good compared to what you pay for around the bay. The family that runs the place are as nice as can be. We ordered a lot of food so I'll just touch on a couple of items that I really liked. The dried pork noodle was nice and flavorful. The beef noodle was not super flavorful but boy is it hearty, try to finish that even with help!! The soup dumplings were nice and fresh, most definitely my fav dish. You don't come away feeling heavy or bloated. All the food came out fast and hot, you would not be disappointed coming here.

Google
Authentic Shanghai food with some adjustments. Not as sweet as Shanghai local flavor. I like spicy meat w noodles, dumplings, seasonal greens and pork ribs w rice cake.

Google
Their 3 vegetable soup is so good!! And all the prices are really great

Google
Total Score: 8.60 Bathroom: 3/5 Somewhat clean and somewhat functional Customer Service: 4.5/5 Very friendly and gave us a lot of recommendations for what to eat. Also actually spoke Shanghainese Ambiance: 4/5 A but dirty but that’s iconic and it was bustling. There were various chinese newspaper clippings along the walls. Food: 5/5 It was authentic, it was bussin. Wow: 0.5/1 Shanghainese food was SERVED. Total Score = BR + CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW

Google
This hidden gem offers truly authentic Chinese cuisine at a fantastic price point. I adore this spot for its wonton soup, grilled meat buns, delicious noodles, comforting duck soup, and more. A must-visit for those craving genuine flavors without breaking the bank.

Very authentic Shanghainese style food. Spicy soup noodles can sure test your ability to stand hot food. Steamed and fried dumplings, and Xiao Long Bao are must-eat items. Appetizers like jellyfish and stewed spare rib chunks are highly recommended. Mr Song is the owner. He is ever friendly and efficient. This place is a rare find on East Bay.

Yelp
Amazing food! Been going to this place for more than a decade. It's still the same amazing food and service as I remember. Make sure to try: Dry green onion pork noodles Egg rolls Beef noodle soup Xiao long Bao Clay pot fried rice

Yelp
The fry on these chicken dishes?? And the walnut shrimp?? Fantabuloustic. Miss me with that soggy nonsense. TL;DR: Great chicken dishes. Wouldn't recommend the beef soup. Might go again, if fried chicken is in my future. Nice lady sat us, but service was very mid. You can always flag someone down, though. Food Rundown: Sichuan Chicken Tenders - 7.9/10 Can't give this an 8 because honestly? Just get the red chili chicken instead. It's basically the same thing but with a slightly lighter breading. Still crispy, still solid, but this version seems to use chicken thigh instead of breast, so it's a little chewier and less meaty. Tasty, but second place. Red Chili Chicken - 8.9/10 Pause. Get this. Eat this. Fill your pockets with this, then fill your friends' pockets so you can keep eating it on the way home. The fry is wild!! crispy, well-seasoned, and the chicken stays juicy inside. This is the one to beat. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup - 6/10 The beef was tender and nicely cooked. But the noodles? Overcooked and mushy. Broth didn't have much depth -- just a basic beef broth. Not bad, but not worth going out of your way for. I mostly just fished out the meat. Walnut Shrimp - 7.5/10 Nice fry on these too, but the sauce dragged it down. Heavy on the mayo, light on flavor. Felt creamy and kind of one-note. It's fine, but not something I'd crave or re-order. Final Thought: If you're going, go for the chicken. Fry game is elite.

Yelp
My friend lives in Irvington District so I meet her here for lunch on days I get my car washed down the street @ the Pacific Car wash - sort of like killing 2 birds with 1 stone since I am already in the neighborhood. My friend is the local so she does the ordering as she knows I will eat just about anything, and luckily for me, she has been on fire on what she orders. My favs have been: 3 kinds veggies noodle, drunken chicken, ox tongue in chili sauce & any of the rice cakes. This tiny restaurant packs up at lunch times so it is a hit & miss for those pressed for time. Luckily my office does not care how long I take for lunch so I have time to enjoy her good company & the good food here. We have not come on the weekends but I bet there is a good wait.

Yelp
I'd recommend the pan fried soup dumplings/sheng jian bao and the fried pork chop with rice cakes. The sheng jian bao is one of the best I've had in the bay, and the sauce in the pork chop was yummy - soy sauce base, slightly sweet and not too salty. Their beef noodle soup was just alright. Not bad but not rich and flavorful enough. Same with their xiao long bao where the skin was too thick and the filling was not hot and soupy enough for my liking. They gave complimentary roasted peanut and tea which was nice. Service was speedy but a bit rushed. It was an in and out kind of place.

Yelp
resteraunt is quiet small. please don't expect the whole environment is good as I-Shang. Good thing is food is served quickly. 茭白肉丝面,排骨年糕,not same as what i remembered when i ate in Shanghai. As traditional Shanghai cuisine, they use spicy soy sauce for the Fried Pork (with rice cake). Here they don't. 虾肉馄饨 is ok, fresh Shrimp inside. but soup is a bit lighter taste. and it would be better with sesame oil.

Yelp
Complimentary tea and appetizers is always a great start, and the noodle soups are great! Ordering is handled via checking off what you want from a paper menu, and the staff is happy to answer any questions you have. The location was pretty crowded when I visited even late at night, but they still found me a clean table quickly and with little fuss.

K W.

Yelp
had been going to this restaurant for years. It used to be giving out tiny small snack every order but stopped. Price increase almost every 6 months to a point I stopped going anymore.

Yelp
Minimum $25. Otherwise cash only. Food is not good. I don't feel the place is clean enough. At the end when i about to make payment. The owner ask me, this price is not included tips, you need to give tipsss! Omg, we know what we will do. She doesn't have to pushing like this. Im not even eat anything, can't sit for long. Bad experience!

Yelp
Husband found this place close to his dentist so we decided to give it a try. First impression coming in was it was cold as hell lol it was probably colder in there than it was outside. So, I already wasn't feeling very comfortable. The place is pretty small with a few tables, but service was pretty quick. We got the dry pork noodles, Shanghai style dumplings and another dumpling with soup. The noodles were oily and pretty bland to me. My husband needed to add extra chili oil to give it flavor. The Shanghai style dumpling was interesting, it tasted like those sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf but in a xiao long bao form. Not bad. The soup dumpling was okay too, the bottom was burnt but it made it crispy. Overall, all the food had a burnt taste to it. Could have been their style of cooking, not sure. You could also hear the cooks yawning and sighing really loudly in the kitchen lol probably won't come back here again.

Yelp
A classic fixture of the Irvington area. I don't exactly know when this place opened, but it's been around forever. And for great reason! Even after inflation, Shanghai Noodle House remains one of the cheapest, tastiest ways for two people to get stupidly full in the Southeast Bay. It's in that cluster of shopping malls and stores around where the Cloverleaf used to be, so parking is easy and convenient. Given that the restaurant is called Noodle House, I have always ordered the noodles. I understand that they also serve Shanghai-style buns, but I haven't actually tried them in all my years of eating here because quite frankly, the noodles are massive. Absolutely massive. Enough to feed two people. It comes out very very quickly, because the noodles you get in every noodle dish is more or less the same. The base of the broth is also fairly similar - but the sauces/flavors you mix into the broth differ based on what you order. So in practice, you'll get a huge bowl of broth and noodles, far more than any one person can eat. In addition, you also get a huge amount of meat/vegetables/sauce to pour into the bowl - and there's so much, just that amount of meat/vegetables/sauce could be considered a full dish on its own. I am not sure if this is how you're actually supposed to eat it and I have no confidence in my parents ability to authentically eat Shanghainese food, but we've always just slid all of the sauces/meat/etc. into the bowl of noodles and then eat it like a noodle soup. I hope that's how you do it, or else I've been doing it wrong. Cash only - presumably one of many ways they keep this place super cheap! Cheap, plentiful, ultra-fast, and actually relatively healthy (there's oil, but a lot less than you often see in Chinese food). Highly recommended for anyone who wants a meal like that!

Yelp
Great hole in the wall spot. Good food and good prices, so overall great value! Xiao long bao (soup dumplings) was great but my fav was the Sheng jian bao (pan fried pork buns).

Yelp
This restaurant is all about the flavor--don't expect much else, because that's their focus, and they do it well. The food is delicious and comes very close to what you'd find back in China. Of course, there are some limitations due to the ingredients available here in the U.S., but overall, it's a great spot for a taste of authentic dishes.

Yelp
Authentic noodles from northern China. I've gotta tell ya, I'm so glad my family members all agreed to host a dinner party at Shanghai Noodles House 上海麺馆 for a real treat. There are 2 entrances. The one in the back seems more popular. I guess the rear parking lot is bigger than the one fronting Fremont Blvd. Tables and chairs were simple but it got crowded before sunset on Sunday afternoon. Just about everything we ordered were delicious. Especially the dumplings 小笼包 got more soup than anything I had ever eaten. Dry noodles were awesome too. One dish that I don't know what is on the menu but I'm Chinese is 菜饭 which is rice with miscellaneous vegetables and meat. It's almost like my parents used to cook after leftovers from the refrigerator. Of course, the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. I would recommend everyone to try it.

Yelp
As someone originally from Shanghai, I can say their food is VERY authentic. It just felt like the food that my mom would cook, very traditional and delicious. My favorite dishes are Xiao Long Bao, Fried rice and all sorts of noodles. I always take out for my kids and they love their food too. Great place for a quick dinner/lunch.

Yelp
Still my favorite little gem when I crave for some real OG Shanghainese noodle soup Pan fried XLB is the bomb Small place, almost hole in the wall... but who cares, I go for their food and care less for their decorations

Clarence D.

Yelp
Small little dumpling house with fresh clean flavors. Greeted with a smile as if the hostess was happy to see me. A good feeling to have.

Yelp
Paid them another visit. Menu has improved, getting pretty popular now, no table available shortly after we were seated. Had typical Shanghai dishes and they did not disappoint. Prices are the lowest in east bay nowadays.

Yelp
Absolutely love Shanghai noodle house! The place seems family owned, and I always get a kick out of ordering takeout in Shanghainese - one of the best signs of authenticity. Favorites are the lamb noodle soup (huge portion with generous amount of meat), ba bao fan (8 treasure sticky rice dessert with red bean filling, my favorite), and the green onion noodles. The owners are very sweet and we've had friendly service for both takeout and dine in.

Yelp
I remember going to Shanghai Noodle House before the pandemic and don't remember too much about it. I went in the past few months and still don't remember too much about it except that it's small spot and not bad in terms of food and noodles. It's a small plaza so the parking lot is tiny. Pre-pandemic it was really hard to find parking. These days, not so much. Another fair option to grab some noodles. I'll have to explore the rest of their menu and provide another update another time.
google avatar

Yelp
Very nice as usual, the eel noodle was what I always came for. Order a few more appetizer dishes too today and only the spicy beef was not as good as Shang in Cupertino 香小館。 Otherwise, everything delicious especially the eel.

Yelp
If you haven't noticed, I have a slight...very slight addiction to noodles. Small tiny hole in the wall restaurant, easy to miss because it's on the corner where it is located in a small plaza. Parking: handful of spots, but was able to get parking pretty easy. Menu: So you'll want to see what is available that day with supply chain issues, I heard the table next to me get told a lot of items weren't avail. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: spice on this is the numbing type of spice, so if you aren't into that flavor maybe not get this. The noodles were al dente upon arrival, but the soup was INCREDIBLY hot (you can see it in the pic) so I was reminded of being 4 when my mom would tell me to blow on my noodles. Make sure to add some vinegar too, adds to the flavor perfection. The portion is GINORMOUS so you can easily share this. Beef was VERY tender. I would consider getting this again! I think I would ask for noodles on the side (if they'll do it) so that the noodles stay al dente. By the time I got to the end the noodles were soft. With taxes, paid about $14. Staff: very nice Payment: Cards are not accepted unless you spend $25 Would def consider coming back if I'm in the area :)

Yelp
First time here. I highly recommend their pan fried bun! Taste different from the XLB and lots of juice inside! The sweet sour pork rib is as delicious as expected, I always order this dish when I eat Shanghainese food! The XLB is ok, taste the same as the other restaurant I visited previously in Sunnyvale, probably from the same supplier. The sticky rice siu mai is also average, lack of flavor. And they increase their prices, what you see from their website is no longer correct. So call in to order if you want to-go

Yelp
I would absolutely recommend coming here to get their Dry Pork with Green Onion Noodle, Pan Fried Pork Bun, and their Shanghai Style Potstickers. The Dry Pork with Green Onion Noodle are super flavorful, especially with the green onion oil! It is definitely an oily noodle dish, but that's what makes it so good. The noodle portioning is also huge! The Pan Fried Pork Buns are so unexpectedly juicy inside. You would think otherwise because of the crispy outer dough, and the flavor is amazing. I would highly reccommend these. The Shanghai Style Potstickers are also delicious with a perfectly crisp bottom and succulent meaty filling. Some of their noodle soup dishes are a little lacking in flavor, but if you have a noodle craving you're trying to fulfill this is the spot because they definitely give you a lot of noodles. I wouldn't recommend the duck, but the lamb was pretty good. Service is ... blunt, but straightforward! It's what you can expect from a place that knows its stuff. Food came out pretty fast! When we went there was a table reserved for a staff member folding dumplings. Very homey and authentic.

Yelp
This is possibly my favorite restaurant in Fremont! They've got large portion sizes for their noodle dishes, delicious and authentic food, friendly service, and consistent quality! I've been coming here for years, usually for takeout, as the restaurant is quite small. They are also great with large orders in my experience; we've placed large takeout orders to host relatives for lunch multiple times and everything comes hot and fresh. My Chinese grandparents always compliment the food when they visit :)

Samothy ..

Yelp
Had the fried dumplings the pork filling was a bit sweet for me,which was interesting bc I never had a very sweet pork filling , the exterior skin was good Beef noodles ; skinny noodles never seen or ate this type before but it is wheat textured . Good portions of bok Choi and beef. Soup was on a sweet side but delightful The side dish squid was great flavorful with a slight hint of reminiscent nutty oil flavor ;hard to describe but tasted good Vinegar cabbage with peanuts as snacks while waiting ; good atmosphere

Yelp
I ate there. All noodle tasted great because these are hand made noodles! XLB ; steam pork dumplings 4.3/5 Beef noodles 4/5 Sticky rice dessert dumplings with black sesame filling 3/5, soup has no sugar! Not sweet enough. They also selling front dumplings of many kinds! I order sticky rice siu mai and shrimp dumplings with thin skin. They are 5/5!!!!! Something I noticed when I was there. Someone went there, eat and NOT pay! That guy just walk out and give them a card means nothing. Horrible customer who rip off hard working owner! If you have no money I am sure you can find free food at churches ! The owner/workers are so polite they didn't get upset, just put hands in the air and continue serve customer as usual! Talk about compassion! Please tip them!

Yelp
So just discovered this place the food is amazing really seem like Shanghai savory and tasty and the owner is just a nicest person. Highly recommended for anybody who wants to try proper authentic Chinese food

Yelp
Ambiance not great but I love the Dry Shrimp Noodle! Also the Chinese green with dry tofu was excellent. We will be back for sure!
google avatar

Soroush A.

Yelp
Best Chinese noodles I've had in the bay. There are many places which have closed since the pandemic which were great but Shanghai has the what spicy beef noodle soup. I can't comment on their other items but I get this same dish at all Chinese noodle joints around the bay and these folks have it down. The ambiance is unassuming and very hole in the wall but a crowded lunch hour during the week does all the talking. I am a consistent enjoyer of this establishment. 5/5.
google avatar

Susanna K.

Yelp
Came here Tuesday dinner. Small parking lot available. Ordered the green onion noodles, XLB, and shui mai. The green onion noodles were super good, very oily but good. XLB and shui mai were typical to me Would come back to try other stuff since menu is so extensive
google avatar

Yelp
NO MSG !!!! Yep !!!! NO MSG I drive 30 miles round trip each time to buy the noodles. I can taste at least the following ingredients from the soup: star anise, garlic, soy sauce & maybe ginger. Shanghai noodle shop is real cooking. Most of the restaurants up here in the San Leandro have new owners and they all RE-introduced MSG back in to their food. Shanghai noodle still has the same old owner & they have the ORIGINAL Shanghai taste. They used to give out marinated eggs before the epidemic & the hyperinflation.

Yelp
Amazing food and excellent service. Clean and inviting environment. Will definitely return the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Tasty comfort food at a reasonable price. We ordered: - Pork with green onion noodles: My favorite out of everything I've tried. Not a lot of meat but still good. - Sesame sauce noodles: My friend mentioned that these noodles were previously saucier. A little on the dry side but we still enjoyed them. - Pan fried pork buns: Crispy exterior and juicy filling. - Shanghai style chow mein: I took this to go for my husband. I liked the thick chewy noodles. Again, pretty light on the meat. Would order all these dishes again. Also really liked the complimentary soup, roasted peanuts and picked cabbage. Two noodle dishes and the pan fried pork buns were more than enough for three people. Really affordable at ~$13/person including tax and tip. Service was friendly. Don't know how I didn't know about Shanghai Noodle House, but so glad my friend recently introduced me to this place. Wish I had known about Shanghai Noodle House earlier, but will definitely return for future noodle cravings.

Yelp
One word : Delicious. I go out of my way to eat at Shanghai Noodle House, even though I have moved from the area.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
Avoid the other "traditional Shanghai" items! This restaurant is overrated. It is overpriced, and the food quality is average or below average. This restaurant does not make traditional Shanghai food well. If you go there for noodles or the buns, perhaps it will be better. Smoked Fish: the smoked fish is too sweet and not the meat is not firm enough. Smoked Duck: the smoked duck lacks flavor. The smoked duck is quite saucy but it did not go into the meat. Gizzard: the gizzard is plain, and it is not tasty. MaLanTou: this is quite good. It is not easy to mess up.

Yelp
Pretty good hole in the wall! Service was great! The lady serving us was very nice and even showed us pictures of some of their food to help us decide on what to order. I ordered the dry pork noodles with green onion, one of their popular menu offerings and it didn't disappoint. Me and my friend also shared the XLB. I really liked the noodles! So would definitely recommend. The XLB was pretty good too could've used a tad bit more soup inside, but flavors were there. The portion sizes are pretty generous, so that was a nice surprise! Had some noodles leftover for lunch the next day.

S L.

Yelp
The dishes are very good, especially EEL noodles and pig kidney noodle. The shaumai and fried rice cakes are also good. The price is very reasonable. The owners are very friendly.

Yelp
My friend and I like to refer to this as our "hole in the wall" because it's not in a super prominent location, but it has some of the best food in Fremont for a really fair price! Food: Shanghai Style Chow Mein/Noodles : 5/5 By far my favorite dish here. If you typically enjoy this dish at other places, definitely give this one a go! It has a very unique flavor- a bit sweet and salty, but it's not for everyone. They cook it with these tender pieces of bok choy and I love it! Shanghai Style Clay Rice: 5/5 They give you a clay pot that is filled to the brim with oily but delicious fried rice. The rice is made with bok choy, and pork fat. Yes it is probably super unhealthy for you, but it is so good! XLB: 4/5 Their XLB's can be a bit inconsistent, usually a hit or a miss. When it's a miss, the skin can be too soft so it breaks almost instantly and sometimes there is no soup inside because it leaked out already during the cooking process. However, when it's good, it's GOOD. Service: The waitresses here are super friendly! They are always super attentive and they have a smile on their face when you ask them anything! The only thing is, a few of them speak limited chinese. However, they'll still try their best to help you out! I also love that they give you free peanuts and pickled cabbage as appetizers! Overall I think this place deserves much more attention for the food and price of everything that they are serving! It's honestly really good and worth it!

Yelp
This review is long overdue, so the food/menu may have changed since. The food is ok, but the portions are generous and the prices are exceptionally affordable. We ordered: - Cooked Chicken in Rice Wine ($5.95) - Ok. The rice wine was overpowering - Braised Beef Noodle ($9.95) - you get a huge bowl of noodles, the soup was on the sweet side - Shanghai Style Bun ($7.95) - You get 8 XLBs per order, and ours were full of juice. Decent - Shanghai Style Sui Mai ($8.95) - these were ok, I prefer regular HK-style shumai - Four Happiness Bean Curd ($5.45) - Also known as kao fu, this braised wheat gluten dish was a bit too sweet (the wheat gluten tends to absorb all the sauce, so I actually had to press all of the sauce out or else it was too much) - Shanghai Style Special Sweet Rice ($7.45) - known as Ba Bao Fan, this sticky rice dessert has red beans, raisins, and was my favorite thing that we ate The flavors lean towards the sweet side. If you dine in, you'll fill in the little menu with the dishes you'd like and you get free peanuts and pickles!

Yelp
I found this place today and Im inlove with their food. Ordered the pork onion noodles, shu mai, soy duck and sticky rice....delicious!!!!! My favorite is the sticky rice. My mother-in-law used to make me sticky rice with dates before she passed away and this place caught that flavor I was looking for...similar to her sticky rice!!!!! I cried over my sticky rice hehehe.....Love it:) Thank you to the gentleman that took care of me. You didnt rush me going over the menu, you were kind and nice, recommend food but not pushing it....thank you. God bless this business. You guys are awesome!!!!!! Expect me soon for the spicy beef noodles:):):):):)

Yelp
There's not a lot of Shanghai food around Oakland but I knew there were more as you head south so I found this one while browsing through Yelp for places in Fremont. I was particularly interested in the Sheng Jian Baos (Pan Fried Pork Buns) and the Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian (Braised Beef Noodle Soup). I also got Sticky Rice Shu Mais which is a classic Shanghai food and Pork with Green Onions Dry Noodles. The Sheng Jian Baos are so juicy! Every time I bite into one, the juice erupts and spills everywhere. I like how the bottom of the bread was still crispy when I ate them. I think the meat filling and the juices were on the sweeter side. I still like them but I would have liked them more if they were more savory. The Sticky Rice Shu Mais were softer than the ones I've had before and it falls apart easily but since it's hard to find them I still like getting them from time to time. The Pork with Green Onions Dry Noodles were...dry! I mean yes, it says it in the name, but it could have used a little more oil since all the noodles stuck together. It was hard to separate them. Also, there were a lot more noodles compared to the amount of toppings it was unbalanced. I forgot to take a picture of the Braised Beef Noodle Soup (Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian). The portions were so big. For take-out, they separate the noodles from the soup, and it was really hard to eat it without reassembling it into another bowl. I wouldn't recommend eating this unless you're bringing it home. The beef was really tender, there were some vegetables in it which is really nice, and the soup is really sweet. I wished it was more savory and a little spicy. Overall the portions were a lot (family-friendly!) and the food all leaned on the sweeter side. Oh, and one more thing I remember: when I placed my order over the phone, the cashier gave me a very short wait time (around 10-15min) but when I arrived it wasn't ready yet. I didn't think it would be that fast and I waited outside for about another 10 minutes before our food was ready. If you call ahead just show up later so you don't have to wait around.

Yelp
We ordered XLB and dry pork noodle with green onion. The noodle was good. Simple sauce and tasty pork pieces. However, the green onions were a bit burnt. The XLB were good! The soup had a hint of sweetness. I wish there were more soup in each XLB. The restaurant is small and it's located at a corner of a bigger shopping complex. There were limited parking spots in front of the restaurant but there were plenty more if you park in the bigger shopping complex (with the bowling place nearby).

Yelp
Shanghai Noodle House is a low key, home-style restaurant located in a nondescript strip mall. Early opening hours, an affordable and accessible menu, and casual service are all hallmarks. Complimentary peanuts and vinegar cabbage for every table. Our order: Dry Pork Green Onion Noodles - $7.50. A simple dish that includes very well cooked pork, scallions, and a savory sauce that is mixed with a hearty portion of noodles. It's an extremely basic dish but it hits the spot. I liked the noodles here but thought the rendition at Chef Zhao Kitchen had more flavor. Steamed Shanghai Buns - $6.95. Again, a pretty basic preparation of 8 steamed Shanghai Pork dumplings served piping hot and with a nice amount of soup in every dumpling. Downsides are that the dumpling skins are quite thick but still manage to tear super easily and leak all the soup goodness away. That being said, they're still tasty. Shanghai Noodle House isn't anything special with numerous Shanghainese restaurants in the area but the low key food and accessible prices make it a throwback and still popular. Shanghai Noodle House accepts cash only.

Yelp
I called tonight to order 3 items (2 cold dishes & 1 warm dish). I was told only 2 items (both are cold dishes) are available. This is OK. But I was told it to pick it up after 15 minutes. Then after 15 minutes when I arrived, I was told only 1 cold dish is available and the worker will prepare that dish for me. It should only take them at most 5 minutes to have the 1 cold dish ready for me when I arrive. Instead, they only start to prepare the cold dish when I ask if it is ready. When I asked the guy why he did not tell me only 1, not 2, cold dish is available. He told me he did not know the other cold dish was out. He is working at the restaurant, he should know which dish is available when I called him. It is not professional he only told me when I asked him why he did not tell me ahead of time since if I knew only 1 cold item is available I might not order anything from them. The restaurant does not have the right attitude to communicate with customers. I will not go there anymore.

Yelp
Good place for some authentic Shanghainese food. We love their beef noodle soup, green onion pancake, and their variety of appetizers. Place is kinda small and very plain...but food is good.

Yelp
The beef noodle soup tasted bland... The pork belly was very tender!! The dumpling were ok.

Yelp
4 stars for food but the place is full of flies. Unless you want to feel the "Lord of flies", I won't suggest you go in.
