Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! No time or money to travel to Shanghai? That's alright, cause the next best thing is right here. These giant minced pork meatballs are ultra-tender and feature crunchy water chestnuts and a whole egg inside. The deliciously savory taste calls for a big bowl of white rice, mirroring the addictive pork belly, braised in a mildly sweet soy sauce with hints of ginger and garlic. The alternating layers of fat and lean meat are as tasty as they are visually stunning. What I set my sights on today was the fried yellow eel, which has a bouncy, meaty texture that's coated in a thick soy-based sauce, laced with vinegar, garlic, and scallions that are flash-fried with hot oil, with a generous dusting of white pepper, like a cherry on top. The soup dumplings have a robust and juicy porky filling, and the bean curd appetizer with 马兰头 is coated with a fragrant toasted sesame oil dressing.

My son was craving pork belly, and my Shanghai-born, Shanghai-raised nephew recommended this Shanghai-style restaurant. The food was delicious and truly authentic. The braised pork belly was rich and tender, the stir-fried pork liver was perfectly cooked, and the braised tofu with yellow croaker was silky and flavourful. The bamboo shoot soup cut through the richness nicely, and the Chinese okra with edamame was fresh and light. We also enjoyed the fried lotus root cakes and spring rolls. Of course, we had to try the salted pork with vegetable fried rice. It tasted like home. The restaurant has classic old-Shanghai decor and the servers were polite and friendly. Highly recommended if you want real Shanghai cuisine.

I ordered through ubereats. The 上海粗炒 taste is fine but very little meat found. Rice cake is normal The drunken chicken is sour !!!! I couldn't event finish a whole piece of chicken. The smell of it is sour and taste bad !

Decent Shanghainese restaurant at First Markham Place. There is a good variety of food that appeals to the Shanghainese palette. The food though was a bit too salty in my view when compared to what I’ve had in Shanghai.

I always knew this place existed but for some reason never tried it. Decided to spluge a little and try this traditional Shanghainese fine cuisine restaurant. Ordered some very interesting but yummy foods and it came relatively fast and fresh We had this really interesting crispy rice tomatoes dish, check out my video! Their fried duck is also very good along with the drunkin chicken! The decor is meant to look dated and traditional and the chairs are super hard rose wood. Worth a try!

This is one of very few Shanghai dishes restaurants in Toronto. Disregard some of the reviews on the internet, we found it to be surprisingly good. The interior is a little bit out of dated, but it gives a feel of old Shanghai which we like. The service is better than we anticipated, efficient and simple, the waitress/ store manager can speak Shanghai dialect, which is a plus. The food we tried is the Egg Braised meatball $21.99 very tender and not too salty, the veggies inside is so yummy, although we never tasted egg inside meatball in Shanghai, we liked it. Stir Fried Pork Liver $18.99 is so good, it is so tender and the source is tasty, must try. Tomato and shrimp crispy rice crust $21.99, it is nice combination of sweet and sour, crispy and soft texture. House special pan fried bun $9.99 is what we aim for, consistently good. Steamed pork bun $9.99 is also very yummy, must order item every time. Overall, it is a very decent Shanghai food restaurant which is worth trying.

Google
We are looking for a Shanghai cuisine restaurant and saw this one. Among 5 dishes we ordered, we gave 5 out of 10 to Lotus Root(桂花糖藕), 8 to Shanghai Style Rice Cake (上海炒年糕), 6.5 to Bamoo Shoot, 7 to Hot and Sour soup and 7 to Pork Bun (小笼包). Lotus Root is a bit disappointing as it doesn’t taste like the dish I grew up with - a bit mushy and doesn’t have that sweet yet not too rich (甜而不腻) taste. Service is solid and atmosphere is decent. We went before dinner rush so the place is still pretty quiet.

Service is good, all dishes are very traditional Shanghai style. Love this place, will visit again

Yelp
I wish I loved this restaurant more since my family has been looking for a Shanghainese restaurant in the GTA for a while now. Unfortunately, I think there were more misses than hits here - accentuated by their higher price point. We ordered the Shanghai Style Five-Spice Fried Fish ($16.99), Egg in Braised Meatball ($21.99), House Special Braised Pork ($24.99) and Gluten with Mushroom in Casserole ($17.99). None of this is considered cheap - especially that braised pork, which only ended up being a small portion! That was the biggest disappointment, as the pork was not hot and there was no sauce at all. It ended up being quite dry in the mouth, while the flavour was okay. The casserole was good, as well as the meatballs. It was a bit weird to see the classic Lion's Head Meatballs made this way, with an egg in the middle. The portion was very good though and the taste was decent. The spiced fish wasn't my favorite - while the flavour was right, the texture was odd. I usually like my spiced fish a bit more dried out and with the bones easier to pick out or even crispy enough to just eat. Overall, I may be back to try some of the other dishes. It was quite busy when we went (Saturday night) which is great for the business. I think we could find some dishes we do like, just would not re-order the majority of what we ordered today.

Yelp
Came here in a group of 6 and tried a number of dishes. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings), the pork belly dish, and the duck was good. The soup was also delicious and the pot had plenty for us to share. The pan fried buns were very big, but the dough was quite thick. And the duck was tender and juicy, but came with those shrimp chips which weren't crunchy (we wondered if they had gone stale). There was a cold chicken spicy dish too, which looked very spicy because of the red chili colour but it was actually very mildly spicy. We took the chili oil sauce home after and added cucumber pieces which made for a good lunch the next day! The stir fried rice cakes were chewy but there was very little pork. Overall, the ambiance was quite nice and the food was good. I would come here again. Parking was hard to find though. We had to park across the street in the Winco parking lot.

Yelp
A pricer Shanghainese restaurant that could have some improvements. Dishes are on the smaller side. Came here with my family in hopes to get some delicious authentic Shanghainese dishes and XLB, but was sadly disappointed with the restaurant. They gave us the private room, and let us know that they usually have a minimum charge but gave the room to us for free. The food lacked some flavours and could use some profile updates. Here's what was ordered: Shanghai fried noodle 2/5 - Nothing special, and tasted mostly of soy sauce. The dish was quite small in size for sharing Cold cut chicken 2/5 - Chicken didn't have much meat on it and lacked some flavouring Pan fried dumplings 2/5 - I was expecting these to be really good and ordered two orders. One order only comes with 3 dumplings. It had really little soup inside and again lacked a lot of flavours. Fried pork cutlet 3/5 - Nicely fried with garlic. One of the better dishes but again was very small in size Sweet and sour whole fish 4/5 - A whole fried fish drenched in sweet and sour sauce. This was one of the better dishes for sharing XLB 3/5 - They don't do crab XLB here unfortunately and only the regular ones. It's okay and definitely have had better XLB elsewhere. Fried duck 5/5 - This was the best dish of the night with perfectly fried duck. Crispy skin and juicy meat. Beef noodle soup 3/5 - Quite salty and had a weird noodle texture Overall I think the dishes are super tiny for sharing and expensive. It lacked a lot of flavour and not quite worth the price point.

Yelp
My cousin loves this place and thinks it is authentic Shanghainese food though we are Cantonese. They like the food so much that they became member of the restaurant. I cannot attest to how authentic this restaurant is, but I must say everything she ordered was good. Amy favorite was the eel dish which they don't have all the time. The spring roll is also amazing, and if you like fish, you'll love it. I've had the tofu soup many times in different restaurants and never liked it because it is either gluey or very peppery. This is the first time I really enjoyed it. The meatball dish surprised me by having an egg inside. There are private rooms available for bigger parties. Would love to come back again next time we are in Toronto.

Yelp
Food was 10/10! My family is from Shanghai, and we were craving some good authentic Shanghainese food!! Everything we ordered was huge and delicious. We looooved the pan fried soup dumplings. The staff were really nice and accommodating, as well. They had an assortment of large tables and private rooms. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Came for some Shanghainese food with my Shanghainese family! Food was so-so, woh bah was good but the sauce was weird. Everything else was very mediocre and the prices were pretty high. Not sure if I'd come back... likely not.

Yelp
Located in first Markham place, the parking is scarce during busy days. The website says you'll need to make reservations to get in however we went as a party of two on a Friday morning and got a table very quick. This place is debit and cash only. Ordered the xiao long bao. 6 dumplings and TONS of soup. These were the best I've had in a while. The beef noodle soup had thin ramen noodles, a few pieces of beef and vegetables. The soup was flavorful and mediocre. The house special pan fried buns. The filling is not the same as the filling in the xiao long bao. Dry. Overall the experience was ok. It hit the spot with the soup dumplings so those are worth the visit.

Yelp
This is a high end Shanghai style Chinese restaurant, or at least, that's how they're positioning their business. How they attempt to accomplish this, among other ways, is with nice interior design. It is quite lovely and comfortable to dine in. Another way is with their customer service. A bit higher tier than most chinese restaurants. Their food is delicious. Every dish was enjoyable! Lastly, their pricing is what indicates their aim towards finer dining. You definitely pay a premium here. The restaurant offers member pricing, in which you pay an overall lower price of you subscribe to their membership. Otherwise, I feel the price is a bit over for what you get. Another thing that is noticable is that virtually all plates that the food was served on were damaged. Think of when you go to an all you can eat restaurant that's been around for hours and all their plates damaged sides with pieces broken off and just generally worn out. I don't really care about this aspect but find it odd that they don't replace these dishes when they're trying to be an upscale restaurant. Overall, worth a try and see for yourself if they're right for you.

Yelp
This is my Mom's favorite Shanghai restaurant. My parents are both authentic Shanghainese patrons, to the point of having only soy sauce and sugar in their kitchen. Yes, food here lives up to the shanghai tradition of heavy red soy sauce. Good size serving and reasonably priced. Reservation is highly recommended, especially if you have a big party. They do have two private rooms that can serve 12 people each. Service is always good. Stick to the good old Shanghainese classics, braised pork, braised meatball (with a fried egg in the middle), fish fillet in wine sauce...

Yelp
My thought this is a shanghai restaurant, but to be more specific, its a Zhejiang cuisine 浙江菜. Zhejiang is beside shanghai, but food are relatively different than other shanghai restaurants i have been to. Therefore, if you are looking for soup buns, pan fried buns or shanghai classics, this is not the place for you. If you have been to Zhejiang and love their local cuisine, this is the place for you. Food are a bit on the pricey end comparing to other dumpling restaurants or shanghai restaurants. They feature on food that are classic in Zhejiang which food that i have never tried or eaten before. I would recommend the deep fried lotus and snow peas leaf. 5/5! DELICIOUS! The reason i gave such a low score is because of the steam and pan fried buns. Having the title of a "shanghai" restaurant and being recognized for its local food. The xiao long bao (steam soup buns) and pan fried buns are 1/5. I am super disappointed. The skin of the bun was thick, Which is unusual for their buns ( they were suppose to be light and silky like feelings). The soup bun i was given had holes on them, which made the soup run out. The pan fried one just tasted like thick dough and a bit burnt in the bottom. Overall experience: 2/5. The only reason they had 2 points is because of the lotus dish and the snow pea leaf dish.

Yelp
Be warned: "pictures are for references only". This is especially particular to the Baby Cabbage braised in broth we ordered. According to the picture on their menu, there should be large slices of ham on the cabbage. Instead, we found tiny bite size pieces, maybe 4-5 pieces of ham, in the entire dish. Hmm, disappointing much? Prices are high considering the portions are small, unless you get their $20 membership and with that, it'll save you a buck or two per dish. Not worth getting IMO if you're only coming here once or twice. This place really caters to large groups as they only have four booths to seat smaller groups, tucked away on the side. Might also be a good idea to train the staff not to use profanity when conversing amongst themselves right next to the customers. Whatever happened to professionalism? I'll give two stars as the food does taste relatively good and authentic. As for the rest, sorry but not sorry.

Yelp
This is my Shanghainess cuisine go to place in the Toronto. The store manager lady is very welcoming. The price is right. Plus, the food quality is consistent. As I believe the owner is the head chef. I always order the Xiao Long Bo and Pan fried buns every time. I will skip the braised beef noodle soup Taiwanese style in the future and try another dish.

Yelp
A pretty solid Shanghainese restaurant. The food is all quite tasty and at a reasonable price. It's a great place to go when you're in a large group since they have seating options to accommodate--just make sure to make a reservation ahead of time! The service was also quite good, considering our table size of about 10 people. They were quite attentive and quick.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now. I'm not sure how long this restaurant has been open but it's a nice addition to First Markham Place. I made a reservation and was immediately sent a text, presumably with information about my reservation, but seeing as I don't understand Mandarin I had no idea what it said and ignored it. The staff also only speak Mandarin so communicating what you need may be an issue. We ordered the pork shank and the photo in the menu is most definitely misleading. We had expected a whole lot more than what was actually served. This happened with the other meat dish as well. Whoever took the photos is really good at making the dishes appear way larger then they are. Just beware. The only dish that was larger then we expected was the pumpkin dessert. We thought they'd be one bite sized each but were much larger. The dishes were all very flavourful so you don't need to worry about anything being bland.

Yelp
A Chinese restaurant that does take reservations! When we got there our table was ready immediately. Our booth was very spacious for 3 people and I was pleased to see that the restaurant was pretty clean. Our waiter took the time to explain their loyalty card to us. The red prices that you see on the menu are the member prices which can be significant if you come here enough. Also the cards are transferable so you can share them! He also let us know that because it was the restaurant's anniversary, there would be some weekday specials that were like $1 dishes kind of thing. The real hit of the night was the braised pork belly. It had thick layers of fat attached to leaner chunks of pork and it was flavoured so well. A definite must have. We also had an order of the pan fried buns that had nice savory filling but may have been a teeny bit overdone on the bottom.
google avatar

Samantha Y.

Yelp
I recently revisited this restaurant during Asialicious and was pretty impressed with all the food. The servers only speak Mandarin though, not much Cantonese or English. Xiao Long Bao - thin skin, super juicy, and meat is not too fatty. Some of the best I've had in Toronto! Special Vegetable Noodle Soup - This noodle soup was shockingly good! The noodles were thick, chewy, and absorbed the broth so well! As chewy as udon, but not as tough and a bit smoother. The veggies were stir-fried before being put in the soup, adding some aroma to the noodles. The soup tasted like soya sauce, much like Shaghainese fried noodles. There was a few tiny pieces of pork, wish there was more for that price. Overall, such a satisfying bowl of noodles! Shaoxing Chicken - I liked how they used free-range chicken, wasn't very strong on wine taste though. Wontons - average like other Shanghainese restaurants. Quite a few wontons though.

Yelp
Recently ordered take out because they are having 30% off (at least from the app) but the prices are just like regular price from other places to me. Still I decided to try and support local business. However, the portions are small so it definitely not worth it. The food taste good so that is why I give them 3 stars but not like it's extraordinary good. Overall, I felt that I have been cheated as the portion is really small. I'll probably not get take out from them but maybe try dine in next time.

Yelp
Authentic shanghainese dishes are hard to come by as most people just can't fathom how the dishes can taste so sweet. Well here's one where the food isn't as salty and just the right amount of sweet. Gave me flashbacks to the food I'd eat in Shanghai. For two people, we got two main dishes sweet and sour yellow croaker and the cauliflower with chicken gibblets as well as fried soup dumplings. It was more than enough for the two of us. Service wise I would say they were as attentive as people can be for a Chinese restaurant. Overall hands off service but if you needed something they would be available. That was perfectly fine with us, who were enjoying the food. My mom was super happy to find this place and it was a nice restaurant during our visit in Toronto.

Yelp
I have a relative who is from Shanghai. I have brought her to a great many Shanghainese restaurants in Toronto/GTA. Most are popular and some are highly rated on Yelp and other review sites. Let's say Shikumen is the second restaurant she has asked for a business card after a year or so of showing her around. Good food: My relative placed all the orders: 3 appetizers, a smoked fish, a shrimp dish, a steamed fish, a sea cucumber dish and a vegetable dish. Other than the steamed fish being too small (maybe a pound to share among 6 people), she was happy with all the orders. The sea cucumber ($41) was the winner of the evening. The cucumber was big, and the sauce was savory with a hint of oyster flavor. Pricey as it was, I would re-order it. The shrimp was the runner-up. Thumb up that they used mature vinegar for dipping. The shrimps could be more "crisp", however. Overall, the authenticity screamed loud and clear, and she was won over. Price: Above average. $170 including tax, before tips, for 6 people. Good service: We arrived on time for our reservation. Our table wasn't ready because the customers were still at the table. Instead of keeping us waiting and standing, the server let us sit at a bigger table, serving us tea, taking our order, while waiting for our table to be ready. The considerate services were consistent throughout the evening. +1 star for service.

Tilla T.

Yelp
The restaurant is big and clean, not many people. They have both member and regular prices. Quite expensive but acceptable when considering the location. The food is an average, no surprise.

Yelp
This is a more 'refined' shanghai restaurant with private rooms and a historic/modern seating. The restaurant is small so if you are coming on weekends, I recommend getting a reservation as this place can get a little busy. Generally, their dishes range from super spicy meat and seafood dishes, to other classics like soup dumplings, fried bao, chilli cold noodles, braised soy sauce pork belly with egg etc. They offer two types of pricing, the normal pricing and a special VIP pricing (you need to get a membership card that costs $20 to get anywhere from $1 to $2 off per dish). My go to dishes at this place are: Soup dumplings $7.99 for 5 Chilli oil cold noodles $6.99 Scallion Noodles $11.99 Braised pork bell with egg $15.99 Chilli oil beef cold dish $9.99 Pork hock braised on soy sauce $11.99 Shanghai fried noodles $10.99 Sweet and sour shrimp $15.99 The dishes are more expensive than the average dumpling place and some are tapa style size, so you may have to order a few more dishes in order to be 'full'. This is a nice place to go every-so often if you are craving better quality shanghai food. The service is okay, but not as attentive as I'd like it to be.

Yelp
This place offers great Shanghainese cuisine. Don't let the reviews discourage you. I came here with some relatives who live in Toronto who were originally from Shanghai. I lived in Shanghai for several years when I was younger and this place is one of the best Shanghainese restaurants I've been to outside of China. Many of the dishes are unique to Shanghai and the flavors are authentic. Some of the highlights were the braised meat (红烧肉) and pine nut fish(松子鱼). The restaurant is nicely decorated and I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Tina P.

Yelp
We arrived right after the restaurant opened. It got fairly busy after about 30 minutes. The food arrived quickly and service was good.

Yelp
2:15 pm Tuesday, time for lunch. Definitely a time for lunch as when I walked in Shanghai Shikumen Restaurant, everyone working there was having lunch. Awkward moment, should I just walk out without anyone noticed me but one of the wait staff came over to seat me at one of the tables. What to order? A big colourful menu. Dim sum and noodle might be the best choice for a single person. Special Spicy Noodle Soup with Meat Sauce ($8.99) was pretty good. The noodle was cooked with a nice bite and soup base was well seasoned. A little touch of spiciness which I cannot call it spicy at all. Apparently, the restaurant is closed from 2:30-4:30 on weekdays but even when I was leaving the restaurant at 3:00, the OPEN sign was till on. There are quite a few private rooms that are good for groups. I might come back to try some other items on the menu but in no rush.

Yelp
6 adults and 2 kids came here for dinner. We reserved a small private room. This room costs $260 excluding tax. The philosophy behind the costs associated to the private rooms is that you order dishes equal to the value of the private rooms. In our case we had to order dishes that's worth $260. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. I am Shanghainese and I find the menu is extremely extensive, a good thing because there's hardly any authentic Shanghainese restaurants in the GTA. Of all the Shanghainese restaurants I've been to in Canada, this place has the best Pan Fried Soup Buns. It served perfectly browned at the bottom and juicy filling in the inside. Deep Fried Ribbon Fish was fried perfectly. Crispy and moist. Same with Deep Fried Belt Fish, really great coating and was superb. Bamboo shoots is delicious! Yi Duo Xian Soup is super super delicious, it brings me back to Shanghai. Fried Eel was awesome, never had it with soy sauce coating. Hong Shao Rou with Eggs is to die for! The fat just melts in your mouth, very nice! Great dinner and service. Friendly staff and the owners of this restaurant are both Shanghainese, they know what they are doing. Will most definitely be back. Pro tip: 1) Call to reserve. 2) If your lost on ordering, ask the server for suggestions. They'll look after you.

Quality of food is not worth the price. Service is not up to standard. We have been to this place 3 times, and it is getting worse, will not go there again.

Yelp
Our family of 9 came into Shanghai Shikumen Restaurant at around 6pm and there was not much of a wait which was great. The interior is definitely more old school, with wooden chairs and decor. Some of the items we ordered were: 1. Scallion noodles (a little too oily and not much flavor) 2. Fried Bao (good size, juicy and has the perfect bottom layer crunch) 3. Mince Wild Chinese Veggie w/ Dried Bean Curd (this has quickly become one of my favorite Shanghainese dish- it was done very well here, with similar taste to Shanghai) 4. Jelly fish mixed with Shredded Radish (vinegary + sweet taste, there was definitely more radish than jellyfish) I definitely prefer Shanghai Nook across the street over this spot, at Shanghai Shikumen, their menu offers two different pricing (members + non members). We ended up buying their membership for $20 to get member pricing. But probably wont be back.

Yelp
I ordered delivery today because they have the 50% off promotion on the app. But I was so disappointed. Here are the food I got! The shuizhuyu which they claim "alive" and "fresh" was just garbage. It was fried and it has half a head and a tail in it. Disgusting! It costs 35.99. The duck in the Beer Duck dish is all broken and seems like left over. As you can see in the picture 4, that was all the dish for 19.99. The only pro is the buns. They tasted good. Didn't have a chance to take a picture before we finished 3 of them because these were the only thing we can eat from the delivery! Hehe! When I contact the service team they even told me this restaurant claim they did their best! Smh... Idk if the promotion is their reason why they can't guarantee the quality of the food, I'm not ordering again. There are so many Chinese food restaurant better than yours. So keep your "good" work Shikumen!

Yelp
Surprisingly good in terms of price, interior setting, and of course, the quality of food! The yellow fish spring roll is highly recommended. We tried some Shanghai signature dishes like dumpling in soup , dark vinegar rib, fry Shanghai noodles. Comfortable place with friendly services. Sure will go again and try more dishes . I will give five stars if they put less oil!

Yelp
It is a nice Shanghai restaurant that I used to go whenever I am available. Food is always delicious and for sure I will keep coming.

Yelp
Great authentic Shanghai food. Service is fantastic. Ambience is clean and nice . Dishes are shareable and fairly priced. They also offer membership option for repeat customers.

Yelp
Great food and my take out order is always ready on time. The other time they made a mistake on my order and quickly corrected it within 10 minutes! Service is always friendly! My favourite dish is the house pan fried buns!

Yelp
As a native Shanghainese lol, I think it's safe to say this is THE most authentic Shanghainese cuisine place in GTA. (I've tried every other place in Toronto) Been there a couple of times and it makes me feel home. If you will go there more than once, then it's definitely worthwhile to become a member (I trust you guys with the math. ;)) True the local food may not be as fresh as the one back home. But let's face it, you're in Toronto so stop being so picky!

Yelp
Mid range Chinese restaurant. All of their items on the menu are available without having to preorder, even the complex ones. Fast service. Clean. High quality food. Stable quality. But there is one thing I REALLY HATE. They serve rabbit dishes. I can't ever come back here again. Just a personal preference and principle thing.

Yelp
The menu is nice and the pictures of the food looks delicious. Too bad the actual food doesn't even remotely resemble anything in the menu photos. Every time they brought a dish to our table, I had to stop myself from saying we never ordered this! Service is bad too. They sat us at a large table with other people and when a small booth opened up, we asked to be moved and they gave a lame excuse that the food has already been entered to come to this table. Really? Food quality and taste is mediocre at best and surely does not justify the price. Seems that any restaurant with the word "fine" in the name is compensating for something... If you want to provide a fine dining experience, provide better service and food... Really miss the original King of King Chinese restaurant at this location. Every restaurant that came after (Qing, Li's House, and now this one) has progressively gotten worse... Either they better shape up and serve food that looks like the menu photos and actually tastes good, or I'll be looking forward to visiting a new restaurant in the near future. Oh, and they tried to get us to buy the membership card when placing the order. Glad we waited until the food came! The Shanghai restaurant on Hwy 7 near Bayview (in the same plaza as Ocean/Steam kitchen) is so much better!

Yelp
Overall good shanghai food! Have the membership card for the restaurant which allows you to pay a lower price on each dish. My favorite is their pan fried dumpling bun!!! Perfect combination of fried crunchy on the outside and soft juicy dumpling on the inside!

Yelp
Came back for dinner and was thoroughly disappointed with the meal. Had a duck dish (boring), veggie w/ ham (completely missing most of the ham that the menu photo showed it having), cabbage with fried ham bits (way too oily), pan fried buns (only good item), xiao long bao (just mediocre), deep fried whole sweet n sour fish (fish not fresh, sauce very bland), and fried rice sticks (overly hard to chew). After paying the bill, the boss lady didn't even want to give me back my $15 change (she was expecting a huge tip for lame service while their staff was eating lunch in the main dining room at 3pm?). We won't be back here anytime soon.

Yelp
Nice food here. The taste reminds me of the cuisine back in China. Very defend Shanghai dishes

Yelp
Actually rating on this place was not so good but then I realized not was done by a chinese. Shanghai cuisine is quite unique and has a different taste yo most chinese food. I try to avoid it but still like it. Today the rabbit was really good. Don't think it was shanghaineese but i liked it. So was the bambo and spice lotus. Beef soup was more of a thai style and of course the Xiao long bap both steamed and fried were excellent. Since my wife is from Shanghai I have a feeling we will be back here.

Yelp
First time here and not impressed with service so far. The signage outside made it look like a larger restaurant. But the inside is tiny. The two dishes we ordered (no rice provided) came. To say unique is an over statement. I can cook these dishes better, and I can't cook. Duck was dry as heck and the other dish is a mini ohmlette dumpling. I can make this at home. Very disappointed and will not be coming back. Only saving grace, at least the washroom was clean. Dang nab bit, no paper towels...

Yelp
Recently discovered this place although they have been around for a while. I thought this was a quiet hidden place, but they get quite full during dinner time especially for weekends. They serve some unique Chinese/Shanghai food that you don't normally find. They have an extensive menu!! The dishes here always taste fresh, though on the oily side. The presentation often looks a bit different than the photos. For example the sweet and sour fish looks nothing like the photo, but it was tasty. I also recommend the pan fried buns, they are so juicy. Get the VIP card for $20 if you plan to visit more than once. It saves you between $1-4 per dish. No expiry.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a weekday. We ordered their siu long bao, pan fried bao, Shanghai stir fry noodles and the siu mai. The siu long bao skin was too thick for my liking and they make it too big compared to Ding Tai Fung & Asian Legend. The Shanghai noodles tasted ok with the veggies but really greasy. The pan fried buns and siu mai were ok, nothing special. I also wanted a hot soymilk but it only comes in cold. The waiter said he can "microwave" it for me which took awhile...and when it came back it was just warm, didn't taste good (stick to the cold soy milk). As for the service, wasn't that good but the place looked like an authentic Shanghai restaurant. They have these VIP rooms in there which looked pretty nice but have a min order. I don't think I'll be coming back since this place is on the pricier side compared to others and the food was just average.

Yelp
Delicious authentic food and good service, although the portion is not huge. 熏鱼 红烧肉 马兰头 all taste great. You will definitely be satisfied if you are not that price sensitive.

Yelp
The outside kinda look a bit lay back not much outside the inside decor was nice. Had a bit of Shanghai feel to it. There are a few private rooms in this restaurant. I went with my brother around 2:30ish. Staff where having lunch.sat down and rhe staff gave us a menu. There are two prices for each dish i bleieve prince in red and another priced in black. If you buy a membership card innot sure if it expries or anything but you get a discount on each dish. I think its about 1$off each dish. The membership card i think they sat was 20$. we ordered the rice cake and veggy stir fried. I love the rice cake. It was nice and thick, soft yet chewy love that. I added a bit of chilly oil ( more spicy then regular chilly oil you may find in other restaurant). The siu long bao was pretty good. The soup inside the siu long bao was pretty clean. Didnt have much oil as a lot of other places may have. The dipping vinegar needed a bit more ginger. Another dish was the mini wonton soup. By far the best ive had so far in a Shanghai restaurant. Pretty filling as there was plenty of the mini wonton to eat. Soup was nice and not too salty for me. The pan fried meat bun was great. The bun itself was fried perfectly at the bottom. Only thing i see that could be better is a thicker bun. Other then that the flavors were nice and meaty. The bill came to about $30. I think i will go back for the rice cake loved it the most.

Yelp
This is authentic Shanghai food except for the fact that they take credit cards. The food was reasonably priced and came out immediately. Typical to Chinese food it was family-style. The spices in the food were perfect and they had a very expansive menu that is in both Chinese and English. They also have private rooms on the side that you can reserve. We went with a friend who I think made a reservation. It was very busy when we went so I think you probably want to make a reservation if that's possible. There's not really more to say. If you want an authentic food experience you should go here. I'm surprised it had low ratings on yelp. I wonder if it's because people came here to eat and expected an American Chinese food restaurant.

Yelp
The food is great for when you are on the mood for soup dumplings. there's a VIP card for $20 and you get a membership pricing on the menu when you pay cash. The service is usually quick depending on what time to come though servers mostly only speak Mando recommend that if you cant speak Mando use english (sorry canto speaker)
