Summer Palace

"The majestic red and gold colour scheme is a fitting lead-in to the Cantonese classics reimagined by Chef Chan with a refined touch. Try his juicy and tender char siu or the Peking duck with its dark and crispy caramelised skin. The array of dim sum on offer, such as apple sauce char siu puff pastry, is also a highlight. With vivid colour and varied textures, the steamed red yeast rice roll stuffed with minced shrimp in a crispy crust is enticing." - Michelin Inspector

Hotel is well maintained and clean. Rooms were large and spacious. The facilities were excellent, indoor and outdoor pool were great (unfortunately we couldn’t use the outdoor pool as it rained for the entirety of our stay). Buffet breakfast was plentiful with food being refreshed regularly and kept warm. The buffet dinner was nice, but lacked options and was not as good value as the breakfast. Overall a great stay.

Long time didn't write the travel review in TripAdvisor (one of my favourite travel websites), as supporting our country's travel industry, I decided getting around more our country rather than foreign countries, so this time travelled in Guangzhou+ Conghua for relaxing and hot spring for 8 days, last 2 nights stayed in Guangzhou Shangri-la from 13-9 to 15-9, room no. 2305, which I hadn't been to before as the brand is falling away in terms of service and facilities, this hotel hasn't been an exception as I had a terrible experience, so luckily just stayed 2 nights to the end... ||Pors: Thank you to the lobby manager, James, for the arrangement and for the birthday cake for my wife, which made us feel delighted.||The pool has a resort atmosphere which apart three areas of the pool also well-arranged.||The view of the room is fantastic, although the decorations are relatively outdated, but the maintenance is decent. ||Cons: The hairdryer is ineffective and outdated, requiring continuous button presses for airflow, which is really inconvenient for those with long hair. ||In addition, we checked out at the lobby encountered a very terrible experience. When we left our luggages in the lobby after checked- out, I drove my car to the hotel entrance from basement car park for took our luggages, one of the doorman, the surname called Jiang(江), men, wore glasses, asked me get forward of my car around 30 meters with no reason, I then asked why as there was no car and no other people at the moment execpt us also I didn't bother anyone else(The managerial staff should check the CCTV as it is the proof) , he said nothing and just kept asking for that, does it make sense??? I have right to park my car at the entrance as we are guests of the hotel right???Are we not guests? Do Hong Kongers not need to pay for a stay??? Not welcome for Hong Kongers??? Or so jealous of Hong Kongers!!! This so-called "staff" is absolutely disgusting and not worth being a Shangri-la staff, really low-quality, as the saying goes, "A piece of rat faeces spoiled the whole pot of congee", this guy really is... It's unimaginable why Shangri-la have such a low-quality employee like this, which absolutely drags down this hotel brand, also unfair to other high-quality staff...I have almost stayed in all Shangri-la in Southeast Asia, and I have never liked it before. I think the management should sort it out to maintain the reputation of your hotel.

This was the third Shangri-La hotel we've stayed at in the past six months, and — as expected — it was amazing!||||Our room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully prepared. We selected our preferred pillows via the Shangri-La app before arrival, and they were ready and waiting for us — such a thoughtful touch. From our window, we enjoyed a fantastic view of the river and the city skyline.||||The fitness center and spa were top-notch and had everything we needed. I couldn’t resist treating myself to another aroma massage at CHI, The Spa — just heavenly.||||One of the highlights for our family was the outdoor swimming pool. There was a fun foam soap party the evening we arrived, and the inflatable water slide was a huge hit with the kids! Just a heads-up: swimming caps are required, so bring your own or plan to get one there.||||Breakfast was generous and full of variety. It's one of those moments where you tell yourself, "Just one bun..." but they all look so delicious that you end up having two — or more! 😄||||We traveled by taxi, so I can’t comment on public transportation, but it felt like a very central location.||||And finally — a big plus in mainland China — the Wi-Fi worked great and even allowed access to YouTube, which made my son especially happy since he didn’t have to rely on my travel mobile internet or use a VPN!||||Highly recommended. Thank you, Shangri-La Guangzhou, for another memorable stay!

My comments above specifically pertain to the buffet. If considered isolated, I would rate it terrible. The hotel was great, the room was average, and the amenities seemed adequate. However, I found the food at the buffet disappointing for a five-star establishment. The selection was poor, all the meats were served cold, the salads looked old, and the staff appeared unprepared for the standards expected at such a venue. ||||Even though only 3-4 tables were occupied, we repeatedly asked someone to clear our plates. Additionally, there was often no one at the various stations to serve food. The only standout aspect was the very attentive manager.

This five-star hotel offers excellent access to the metro and is one of the best options during the Canton Fair in Guangzhou. The rooms are spacious, and the breakfast restaurant is large with a wide variety of food choices, making it a pleasant experience. Although the prices are higher compared to many other hotels and access to city attractions is somewhat limited, it is a very good option if your main purpose is attending the fair. The spacious lobby and modern halls were also among the reasons I chose this hotel for a three-night stay. 🙂

My whole stay at Shangri-LA in Guanghzou has been great: the rooms, the facilities, the breakfast and restauration options. But above all, the staff was incredibly helpful. At the desk, Uka helped me out with an app issue I had. She was professional, friendly and most of all very patient, it has been a pleasure!

Good if you taxi or DiDi everywhere. Harder to walk in the hot sun to the metro. Hotel doesn’t have a place for coffee only expensive buffet or restaurant. Very convenient if you’re attending the Canton Fair though.

Visited Guangzhou for 2 nights and stayed in Shangri-La during my short stay in China. I would NOT recommend it if you are tourists and you want to be close to the famous scene sights. Our goal is to meet families in Guangzhou so it was not an issue for us. The garden in the back was very pretty but there was some constructions going on (in mid July), and they transferred dirts between spots. But overall the whole garden was impact. Had no problem circling in the trail. There was also a mini forest next to the hotel was you could take slow walk with full shades (important in hot, humid and sunny weather in summer). Elevator was pretty old. Had problem inserting the card to select floor. Even entering the room sometimes would be a problem due to the card problem. Got two scoops of ice cream for free as the welcome gifts. Also tried their afternoon tea with our family. Overall delicate and nice.
