Shantara Resort | Best places to stay in Port Douglas

"The standard dress code in Australia is ‘smart casual’ and this term applies perfectly to the Shantara Resort, a contemporary apartment hotel in the heart of Port Douglas. There are no Balinese flourishes here, just workmanlike modern architecture – and a slightly austere swimming pool. Apartments are well-equipped and decorated in the Aussie beach style, in blues, fawns and taupe. With its adults-only policy, this immaculate mid-size property will certainly appeal to couples. We had a lovely stay at Shantara Resort, the room is generous in size, clean and had everything we needed. The resort itself is quiet and had great facilities, perfect for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect, just a few minutes walk to the beach, marina and main shopping strip. We would highly recommend.

Shantara Resort is a jewell within tropical Port Douglas and a stay here will not disappoint, the resort is absolutely amazing! The whole complex has a spacious, light and airy feel. As an adult only resort there was ability to relax quietly to read a good book with a glass of wine by the pool. The rooms, reception and lagoon pool are impeccably clean. We had a shared deck room with access to the lagoon pool that was perfect with plenty of lounges and areas to relax. The location is a short walk to the main street where there are many great places to eat and drink and over the road is access to Four Mile beach for that early morning walk or evening meander. We will definitely be back and wouldn't stay anywhere else. I would recommend The Shantara Resort Port Douglas to anyone, you WON'T be disappointed.

We loved our stay at Shantara! Extremely convenient location, we didn’t have to hire a car as it was walking distance to all cafes and restaurants. Room was spacious, and staff (especially Kathy) were very helpful and welcoming! Would recommend!

I stayed here for 5 nights 12th to 17th October. I had a fabulous studio swim out apartment ( 8B) which was perfect in size for me. It had a shaded balcony with table & chairs which meant I could comfortably sit out there even when the sun hit my side. Then there is a private deck with lounger and steps straight into the pool. I swam every day and loved the perfect pool temperature and the fact I could just slip in and out. I had a beautiful bottle of sparkling waiting for me in the fridge plus a dinner voucher for Watergate restaurant which was really enjoyable food & great cocktails. Reception couldn’t have been friendlier and pre arrival emails with tips on where to eat or things to do was very helpful. I could walk everywhere, just an easy stroll to the main shopping/eating strip and easy to walk to wharf to do water trips. Also a mention that they supply you with plenty of large white towels for the bathroom and extra pool towels. I would definitely come back. I have already told my friends about it who prefer adults only resorts. It was really peaceful and I loved my stay. A particular thank you to Caitlyn who was my main contact at reception.

Our stay at the Shantara Resort was excellent, an adults only resort only a short walk from the centre of Port Douglas. Our self contained apartment was well appointed and decor to a very high standard, unground parking provided has plenty space. The two pools open 24 hours are great, being an adults only resort there was no issues with noise. We have visited PD many times stopping in most of the high end resorts, the Shantra is right up there with most if not better.

We recently spent 6 nights at the Shantara Resort, it was perfect, we were not around much during the day as there is so much to see in the area but when you do get down time, the two pool areas are very quiet, shady and relaxing. The place is only a 10 minute walk into town, they provide a list of preferred restaurants, which was helpful. Our room was amply sized as we are travelling for a few months and have lots of baggage and had all we needed for a comfortable stay.

Google
Fantastic resort that offers beautiful facilities including 2 lovely pools. Rooms were beautiful and the staff were always helpful and happy to help in anyway with information regarding tours in Port Douglas. Ideal location in short walking distance to all restaurants and cafes. Will definately come back to this wonderful resort. Thankyou for making this trip a memorable one.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Shantara and plan to go back. The rooms were very comfortable and it was delightful having breakfast out on our balcony. Our view to the pool was terrific as was the time spent swimming and relaxing in and around the pool. Reception was always friendly and helpful with information and assisting with any request we had. We were walking distance to the main shopping/restaurant strip as well as to the beach and marina. The whole property was beautifully maintained and very clean. It was a great place to stay.

Yelp
This is a great little spot in port Douglas. Close to all the shopping and beaches but far enough out that you don't get to much traffic and noise. The rooms are all great with all the equipment to fend for your self. There is no stove but a full Barbecue for doing any cooking you may have. The pools are fantastic after a long day out on the Great Barrier Reef or just hanging around town shopping.

Yelp
Overall we really enjoyed this place. There were so many to choose from in Port Douglas and probably hard to go wrong. This place has a fantastic location a few minutes walk from either the beach or Macrossan Street which is the main drag of shops and cafes. It seemed like a newer property so everything was new and very clean. The room we had on the second floor had a nice balcony overlooking a pool with a separate bedroom and large bathroom with shower and hot tub. It had a full kitchen with dish washer and full size fridge plus the washer and dryer were just outside our door. Staff very good and very helpful setting up some tours we wanted to go on. The only slight negatives I suppose is a resort would usually have at least a bar if not restaurant in it and room cleaning was not included. Which was no big deal, did not need it anyway. Otherwise we loved Shantara and would recommend it to anyone visiting Port Douglas.

Yelp
This was our 1st hotel in Australia in February, '17. My suitcase didn't arrive at Cairns airport of course! I was concerned about it coming the next day as we were going to be gone all day, it was hot and I didn't want some items inside my suitcase to melt. Upon check-in, not only did the staff assure me that they take care of these occurrences all the time, but they would personally manage the transfer of my suitcase so that we could go off and enjoy our day. They also reconfirmed all of our site seeing excursions (I went on a 6 week holiday to Australia, New Zealand and Thailand, and no other hotel did this for us!)! When we got back from our day on the GBR, my suitcase was in our room! The room we had was accommodated nicely. We had everything we needed to store and eat meals in our room ourselves. We even had a convection oven, which I never saw again in any hotel room on my adventures. The room was quiet and overlooked their lovely pool. I liked the fact that they didn't offer housekeeping - less intrusion. The hotel was a 5 minute walk to most of the restaurants, the beach, and about 10 minutes from the grocery store. Since eating out is so expensive there, eating at least a meal or two in our room made sense. We just had to haul it back from the grocery store! So, while carrying a gallon of water for 10 minutes may have been a pain, we avoided the noise a chaos of staying on Macrossan Street itself. The staff were beyond friendly and welcoming, the beds comfortable, the shower pressure perfect, the A/C worked! I would highly recommend Shantara Resort!
