How Mutual Aid Efforts Help Combat Food Insecurity | Eater

"Originally a small crew feeding people at encampments, this loose, rapidly expanding mutual aid collective grew from seven people running one day a week to roughly 44 people operating five days a week, scaling up a backyard pop-up outdoor kitchen into a larger operation that at the uprising’s height served about 300 meals a day and now prepares roughly 120 meals a day out of a partner commercial kitchen. The group centers feeding unhoused and primarily BIPOC community members, prioritizes meeting people where they are, tailoring meals to dietary and dental needs, rejecting saviorist models, maintaining consistent relationships amid violent evictions, and sourcing donations primarily through networks such as the North Country Food Alliance." - Luz Cruz

Fast ,friendly, people. From I 76 go east to Us1 make a rigjt @ Wissahikon Ave. Then right on Us13 then right tp Food bank. There is a low bridge sign but stay in the "middle lane" and you should be fine. I actually parked and called food bank just to makes sure i would not hit any bridges ,Peace puro (956)

The Share food program does great work in the community. They help 1000s of people each week with fresh produce and other staples. Most of the time free or for a normal fee. The Freshman class at La Salle College High School and their father's donated time and energy to help out. Great day for a great cause.

I am sooo tired of complaining about the Share program participants sitting on my steps, leaving trash in front of my door. They come 7am in the morning and leave bags and chairs to hold their place in line. I had a potential tenant come to rent a apartment with me and declined because she said "Oh no, I can't deal with this every Saturday". I tried to be nice and tell them but nothing happens. Now I'm going to have to file a complaint with the police department. . Sad .

This program is fantastic and extremely helpful to our communities. They supply food to not only the elderly but also other food banks and programs that help those with food insecurities. The employees are extremely nice and helpful especially to the volunteers who dedicate some time to helping box food. This is definitely a place that everyone should go to volunteer.

For truck drivers Only one dock receiving. Don’t come early 30min to 1hour is earliest. Don’t go in the Gate for check in park across the street front of school street parking. Fast unloading less than 1 hour for full load 53ft.

I think the share program is a good thing for people in need of food but some of the places they distribute from is terrible. They block the resident cars in, sit on their steps and the line in on resident pavements where you have to excuse yourself leaving your own home. Trash and boxes are left on people property etc. it’s good what they’re doing this but must find better locations. 600 blk of 57th street

Just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone involved in this program. What with prices being so high some of us seniors wouldn't have enough food. So thank you to all who donated and the amazing volunteers !!!

My Caregiver met them down in the Lobby and received the monthly food donation with my cart. She said they were friendly and helpful. I look forward to receiving the donation each time.

Yelp
My experience with Share is as a volunteer. I've made boxes, packed boxes, and arranged pallets. This food distribution center on Hunting Park Ave is sort of between Manayunk and East Falls. There is a dedicated parking lot. This is great for groups as well.

Yelp
Tried to find out more information on their services but got instead someone that was basically very rude!! She refused to give information. Not good for the company's image. I was on the phone and spoke eloquently and nice and all I heard was, "We don't do that here"... and all I wanted to find out was, "What do you do?"... bad customer service..!!

Yelp
I got a nice solid work out packing up the week's food boxes at share. They have an awesome food program here - high quality food, never damaged or surplus. No income restrictions, anyone who is willing to register and do their volunteer hours qualifies for the discounted food boxes. I was here leading a group of student volunteers - and I'd definitely recommend it to others doing the same. The staff are helpful and supportive, and willing to take a moment to teach and guide (rare in the world of overworked non-profit staffers).

Yelp
Feel good place to do some community service. Not as organized as it could be but for an operation of its size it definitely does a lot of good. Location is a plus, there's parking and very easy to find. Actual facilities is a tad different. Warehouse style to accommodate the large amount of orders they fill makes sense but also means that you're at the mercy of the elements so dress accordingly or you'll be sorry. Comfy, closed footwear no matter the weather should be a must and if you don't like getting your hands a little dirty then bring some gloves. Sign up is a easy, the staff are friendly and there is always loads to do so if you're willing & able there's a number of things to choose from but all will give you that warm fuzzy feeling that you've made a difference.

Yelp
I organized a volunteer event with SHARE months in advance. Students and teachers showed up from numerous schools and the SHARE organizer locked their door and ignored us for two hours after our bus arrived without communicating. We could see them in the office intentionally ignoring us. Prior to the visit- when we confirmed- we were told the event organizer was on maternity leave and we were confirmed to help out. There were so many organizations we could work with, but our students chose this one and they showed them the worst example of volunteer / human behavior. I will not support this organization again. What a disappointment...
