Every Important 24-Hour Restaurant in Portland - Eater Portland

"This pinnacle of old-school, all-day chain diners has locations country-wide, but actually originated in Hermiston, Oregon in 1978. All of its locations are 24/7, including a spot near the airport, helpful for those red eye flights. The other locations are mostly on the fringes of the city. All serve breakfast, pies, burgers, and rib-sticking items like country-fried steak." - Alex Frane, Mattie John Bamman

I ordered northwest steak salad. It was fresh and steak is a big enough and medium so I enjoyed my meal. My husband and I loved key lime pie. It was a great and tasty. And We had a my sister in law’s birthday party in here. Crews are kind and generous. Mostly foods are good. But woman’s restroom doesn’t have napkins and hand dryer.

First time at the 24 hr Diner at 04:30AM. Was met by Renee, who was great during my visit, and promptly seated. I ordered a tea and the brioche French toast with stuffed hash browns, breakfast sausages and sunny side up eggs. It was quickly served and was plated excellently. Each component was prepared properly and this breakfast could have been served at any high end hotel in the Portland area for double the price. Jennifer the cook was just getting off shift and still put in 110% effort and deserves praise. I’ll definitely be back for a meal and it’ll probably be for the graveyard shift staffs efforts. Only diminishing factor is the dinner could use a decor update but it is classic 24hr diner.

I really wanted to like this more but it was just okay at best. Our server was great but she had the whole place to herself and was struggling to keep everything flowing. We didn’t have to wait long for anything and she was doing a great job for one person. My sandwich (club ) was decent but the best thing about it was the bread. I tried the pecan pie and it was pretty ghastly because the filling was gelatinous and didn’t taste quite right. My wife enjoyed her chowder and thought her pie was okay. Maybe I should have gone the breakfast for dinner route??

All Shari's , are Not created equal. But this location is Wonderful. The tall gentleman server(don't know his name, but great customer service. .your breakfast was great. Gluten-freeish 🥞 pancakes a bonus. Also the ceilings are cool, and they have a sun room addition.

Google
Good food any time of day. Even at 11 at night it was still made fresh to order. I had pancakes, bacon and eggs. In a group, everyone can have what they're craving. Great selection of pies for after your meal. And they are great pies. We had our food in a fair amount of time.

Google
If you want some good pies, this is the place to go. The food is decent like an old time diner. The service is awesome though.

Google
The food was good, but the basic fare expected at a diner. I really like the hashbrowns with bacon bits and sourcream, though. The toast was not very good. The pumpkin cream pie was my husband's favorite thing. I don't like that we ordered the pie slice to share, and the waitress said she was giving it to us on the house. We left a nice tip in thanks. Later on, we found out that it was free pie Wednesday, and we could have gotten 2 for free with our meals.

We came here at 3am and had food before dropping a friend off at the airport for an early flight. They were out of ribs that I wanted to try which is understandable, so I settled for the Country Fried Steak with French Toast, Hash Browns and Sunny Side Eggs on the side. The food was good. Unfortunately, I noticed there were bacon bits with my hash browns and I personally am allergic to pork so I am glad I caught that and did not consume it. We noticed how the service was slow and it's likely due to one person working in the kitchen. Overall, this was not the best Shari's experience but also not the worst. 4/5 stars.

Yelp
This place was great. The vibe of this establishment feel like a country town cafe. The chicken club sandwich & fries was very good. And I made sure to make room for their delicious chocolate cream pie. The waitress was very nice; she made sure I was comfortable and enjoying the food. Too bad this place is Oregon, but I don't mind stopping in again.

Yelp
We ate here while staying in Portland since it was 10 minutes away from our hotel. We loved the Shari's in Washington, so we tried this location out. Shari's is known for their pies. Food: Food did come out very fast after we ordered. Service: We definitely came on a day where they were short staffed. They had two waitresses. They were very nice and delivered great service to my family and I. Interior: The booth we sat at was sticky and had left over food on the seating area.

Yelp
We went this morning & I asked for the Build your own omelet: Swiss, bacon, onions & mushrooms. & my cousins go the meat lovers skillet. My omelet had tomatoes and peppers in it & no mushroom, so I just asked if they could redo it or add mushrooms. I heard the chef yell back at the waitress: "I'm not going to pick out every onion out of the premix of peppers, tomatoes, and onions" they began to argue & I felt so uncomfortable. The waitress yelled back at him saying "read the menu, she doesn't want peppers and tomatoes and add mushrooms". It was a big mess, at the end of their argument he yells "well I'm not going to make it." So he refused to make my omelette & I didn't get to eat. Now for my cousin, she did get her food. The portions have gotten REALLY small since the last time we've came. It was tiny, the food was COLD, like the cheese didn't melt, and the French toast we got was also cold. This experience was RIDICULOUS. Whoever the chef/cook was at 5am on 1/31/24 needs help in the back & you need fresh ingredients. I found out that I couldn't get my order correct, because the ingredients were rotten. STOP UNDERSTAFFING or train better, get ingredients that aren't spoiled, & fix your portions. WORST experience ever & I will not be going back here ever.

Yelp
We had a blast at Shari's thanks to Dee Dee! She was so busy but worked really hard and we felt very taken care of. Will come back to see Dee Dee.

Yelp
Come on! Why such a low rating? Sorry there is good quality food at a good price? No! Sherri's from Renton Washington to Eugene Oregon and everywhere else provides consistently amazing food at an amazing price for what you get! Plus, look at my food presentation! Beautiful

Yelp
We go to Shari's for quick sorta sassy service, breakfast dishes, and the pies. The only thing that disappointed us this time at this location was the pie. The breakfast items were tasty, especially the stuffed hash browns......both crispy and creamy....worth the upgrade fee ($1?). Service was prompt with a smile, plus it was free pie Wednesday! Sadly, the items that underwhelmed were the pies. Both pies tasted like day old bakery and were pretty small too. Not worth $4/slice so thankfully, it was free pie day. I'll still go back for breakfast or specials though I might be a bit leery about dessert.

Yelp
If I could give negative stars I would!! My friend and I went here for breakfast. We stood what seemed like forever waiting to be seated. Waitresses just looked at us but no smile or acknowledgement that we needed seating and that they'd help us when they could. There was no sign that stated "Wait to be seated" or to seat ourselves, so I ended up asking someone after we stood there for what seemed like forever and that was when I was told we'd be seated. Prior to this we felt completely ignored! The waitress led us to our table, she didn't say Hi, she just slapped down some menus and left. When she returned to take our order I felt her demeanor was dismissive and condescending. She even walked away as I was telling her our order. She returned and seemed put off. I had to order for my friend. He spoke very little English. When I asked for extra napkins I got a dirty look as she tossed them on the table and walked away. My friend said the waitress was not friendly and I agree. I saw her interacting with other diners in a pleasant manner and even a little conversation with them. I felt she couldn't be bothered with us My friend said he felt that she was racist. He is Latino. I am white. I also felt that way by the way we were treated and I agreed with him. Sheena, you are lucky you received a tip at all from us!! Your service was terrible!! We felt uncomfortable dining here, for even existing in the restaurant. We will never be back!!

Yelp
The price for the quality and quantity of good food is as affordable as can be. I recommend all my fellow truckers if your at the t a or loves in trout dale stop in and try this place
google avatar

Yelp
What a disappointment... The service was slow. The food was OK. The pricing was expensive for the quality of food. The atmosphere was not friendly... And they did not try to sell me pie... the waiter just set the bill on the table without asking if I wanted pie - ridiculous..

Yelp
EVER first time dealing with a military discount applied to ONE ITEM out of the whole order my partner and I had for brunch!!! Since when??? Has the Shari's corporation changed its policy for Veterans now? Apparently, yes to that particular Shari's on Airport Way! My partner is a Veteran and every Shari's we have been to had always applied his veteran discount to the WHOLE order. Not at this location. So watch out for you, Veterans whom Airport Way's Shari's has NO APPRECIATION FOR!
google avatar

Traci R.

Yelp
Why do they even ask you what temperature you want your meat? I ordered medium rare. I wasn't even aware Prime Rib could be so dry and chewy. If there wasn't au jus this would be inedible. Waste of $27.

Yelp
We've been here before a few times and felt that it was just like more Shari's. After our visit today I can't say the same. Well, at least I hope the other Shari's aren't like this one. To begin with all the restrooms are locked with codes but we figured probably because they get bombarded by outside folks wanting to use them. However, the men's restroom was filthy. We wondered how long it had been since someone had visited it to clean it. There were 7 of us for lunch. We were there at lunch but had to adjust our orders a few time wjem the server came back indicating they were out of the food we'd ordered including the soup of the day and even the au jus for the french dips. One item ordered was a BLT and no complaint about the amount of bacon but hardly any tomato on the sandwich. It was pretty poor. The person that ordered the cheese sandwich had the same problem. He couldn't tell there was cheese in it. Server was fine but probably new since dishes came out with missing items. We did come to the conclusion between us that the chance of returning to this location is close to zero.

Yelp
My husband and I came here because we were trying to kill time before our departure flight back home. You've been seeing this Shari's Cafe all over Newberg and Portland so we definitely wanted to try their pies because of their pie sign. We came here specifically for pie and the pies we ordered were really big and very good! I ordered the rhubarb and strawberry pie ala mode and it was very good. My husband I believe ordered the Cherry pie which was super sweet, but he loved it. As for our service, it was amazing! Our server was this sweet lady named Dede and she was so attentive and incredibly sweet. She was on top off everything! Such a hard worker, she needs a raise- someone please give her a raise!

Yelp
This was the first time my fiance and I ate at Shari's and I have to say that it was a good experience, except for the fact that they had NO PIE! It's called Shari's Cafe and pies, but our waiter explained that due to supply chain issues they didn't have any pies at all. Other than no pies the experience was really good. Our waiter was really nice, the food was fresh and came out fast. It is diner food, so it's nothing unique or fancy, but it was good. We had the marionberry bellinis, the Shari's Tillamook cheddar burger and the French dip with mashed potatoes, and since they had no pie and our waiter recommended it, a sundae with marionberry syrup. The bellinis were a tasty twist on a classic with a regional berry. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The French dip had good bread, but the meat on it was meh. The mashed potatoes were really thick, creamy, and fresh. The marionberry sundae was a really refreshing, light dessert. Rating from a F to A+++ I give it a B+. Deductions for no pie and dry, boring meat on the French dip. Otherwise, a good experience and I would eat here again.

Yelp
I usually go to this location to place an order for a chocolate crème pie and they've been good with getting my to-go order ready to go. However, I called them to place a to-go order but the employee sounded like they were in a hurry and were not friendly. She said how they were slammed and for whatever reason told me she couldn't place my to-go order and then hangs up on me unexpectedly. I found this very rude and uncalled for because I usually am able to get them to place a to-go order for me like no problem. I understand they were busy but this is poor customer service on their part...
google avatar

Danny O.

Yelp
This place is sad. Super under staffed and stressed servers, a very seedy area (not their fault of course), burnt hash browns and our orders took forever. We will not be back.
google avatar

Kenneth Z.

Yelp
I don't know how they cook their scrambled eggs, but they aren't very good anymore. I used to go and get their cinnamon roll French toast and they don't have that anymore either and it's really too bad because that's the reason I used to go there and now with the eggs being substandard I'm going elsewhere.

Yelp
First time here after a flight. Looks like an old restaurant from the 80's. (Meaning a bit dated!) Service was good. Food was good.
google avatar

Charlie Lee T.

Yelp
At one time the menu was great & so was the food. Not now! Have ordered the lemon pepper chicken which came half way cooked. Forget about free pie Wednesday. This last Wednesday my pie was three bites. It should have been called Free bite of pie Wednesday. One local place the cook didn't show up & there was one waitress trying to take orders & then cook the meal. Last time I had a BLT it was 1/3 head of lettuce, a tomato slice that I could see through & the thinnest bacon I've ever seen. I used to take friends & family there to make sure that they got a good meal. For years every Wednesday my cousin & I took my elderly aunt. We had a card from Shari's. Then they decided to do online. Not everyone has a computer, so my cousin stopped going. Sorry but this company is going down hill.
google avatar

Yelp
Really old-school side of the road diner type place (remember Shoney's from the 80s? That's this!). Had the classic BLT - the bread was buttered and slathered with mayo (yum!) - the bacon was fresh, and the bread was well balanced. The fish and chips were excellent as well - though the fries could have been a tad crispier. The chicken noodle soup unfortunately was too salty (that's a typical critique of soup at places like this). The server (whose name escapes me) was awesome! Super attentive, and really proud of her service. Always asked to help, and to provide whatever we needed. Overheard her saying she'd been working there 29 or so years? Not entirely sure, but it's amazing. I'd like to read her biography. The slice of lemon meringue pie was classic - a tad sweet but delicately balanced between lemon filling and meringue. The meringue was nicely toasted on the top. The crust was also decent - not too much and balanced nicely with the rest of the pie materials. All in all a great place.

Yelp
Carb-o-licious breakfast and diner food We were here after a red eye flight into the Portland area. The sampler and standard breakfast filled the plates and our bellies with eggs hash browns pancakes and french toast bacon ham and sausage. Tia was an exceptionally cheerful and welcoming server and we felt valued as guests. Great way to start the day. Had to take a nap after this one Old school decor inside nothing fancy.

Maureen B.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch while working in the area. Very nice establishment with friendly staff. We were seated quickly and perused the menu. I settled on the fish and chips and my coworker got the prime rib dip Philly style. The fish and chips was ok, nothing exciting and my coworker enjoyed his sandwich. I contemplated getting a slice of pie but since I had hours of work ahead, I did not get any pie. They have lots of options for pies and I hope to try one before I leave Portland.

Yelp
This is the only restaurant that's still open after 10 pm in the airport area. Even though I went to the one in roseburg but still decided to give this one a try. The foods are very slow to be served and flavor is pretty mediocre.
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
For a coffee shop it's a winner. We have done breakfast two days in a row and not disappointed. The service was great too.
google avatar

Yelp
When you drive into the parking lot this Shari's location on Airport Way N.E. doesn't look like much. Bits of trash in the parking lot, trash can overflowing, unkempt landscaping. The real treat, of course, is inside where (on my new years eve visit) the service was slow and disorganized. The good news is that probably nothing they serve you will kill you. But it will take 15-20 minutes to get water & coffee and another 20+ minutes to get your food...which will arrive warm-ish though hot would have been preferable since it was breakfast. All this in a not-especially-busy restaurant with 3 waitresses, a manager, a busser and 2 cooks on duty. We'll never know what the problem was. But you can generally pin all this on management because they: didn't properly screen applicants for the jobs for which they were hired, didn't properly train and supervise employees, don't pay employees what they're worth, haven't properly stocked the pantry, have some bone-headed company policy that demoralizes employees, etc, etc. Eat here if you must...or use Yelp to find a better breakfast restaurant.
google avatar

Jackson C.

Yelp
It is great you won't be disappointed the burgers are huge and the pies taste so good!

Errol S.

Yelp
Awesome attitudes of workers, not so good FOOD. Asked about pies but was not offered a pie or slice
google avatar

Curtis S.

Yelp
There's been a couple times recently and this was the LAST time it will happen. Walked into Shari's in Wilsonville at 9 pm. Both waitresses looked at me and walked away. I left after 15 minutes and will never go back.
google avatar

Patrick G.

Yelp
Just wanted a grilled cheese and tomato soup. Hard to mess either up. Neither were very good. Maybe 4 outta 10 for each. I'm sure the pies are good, they looked good but I opted for a pecan cinnamon roll. Shoulda got the pie! That cinnamon roll was probably 3 or 4 days old. Warming it up didn't help. 1 bite. Trash. $26 for soup, grilled cheese and a 4 day old cinnamon roll. Got me once. Never again. Ever!
google avatar

Curtis T.

Yelp
Bad service, Chewie baked potato. Druggie waitress. Come here often... tonight was way different experience. Not even a refill on water.

Yelp
Walked in for dinner there were only a few tables with people at them. Was not sure if we sat ourself or needed a waitress to seat us. Took awhile before some one noticed us. Waitress sat us didn't even bring water. Came back 10 mins later to take or order. He phone was ringing in her pocket and she was distracted with that while taking our order. Had to repeat our order several times because she was distracted.Had to ask for water and Silverware 3 times. She was very fidgety like she was on something. Atmosphere was very weird in there. Brought our food then left. Not once did she check on us. Had to ask another waitress for more water and ketchup. Sat forever waiting for our check. Finally we went up and stood at register. Food was just ok for the high price you pay.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Look, it's a Shari's. You are going to get exactly what you expect from Shari's. Avoid the dinner menu, absolutely order the pancakes and pie. Don't look too closely at the surrounding area, focus on the delicious bacon and well cooked eggs. A huge shout out to our server. Name tag was Cassandra but receipt was Danielle so not 100% sure. But you were such a lovely human and made the entire night a joy. Thank you for your attentiveness, kindness, humor, and just cheerful personality. Pulling a night shift at a 24-hour place can be rough and I truly appreciate your demeanor.
google avatar

Yelp
A late night option for those arriving into PDX airport and looking for something to eat. This location is very close to the airport. Serving a variety of diner type foods. Breakfast menu options, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, shakes, and pies. Our party ordered a club sandwich, steak salad, and chicken salad. It was about 11:00 pm and the place was busy but not crowded. Our waitress was super friendly and had a fantastic sense of humor; appreciated her energy. Hint: This place is known for their pies and they had a $9.99 whole pie special. A piece is usually 4 bucks and a whole pie yields about 6 hearty pieces. Fair is fair come check this place out and see what you think. I hope you get our waitress because she made our dining experience fun.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Ordered Eggs Benedict and eggs were hard boiled almost. Waitress finally comes by after 15 minutes to see if everything is okay and said nothing you can do now. Do not eat at this location it's dirty and service is terrible.

Larry O.

Yelp
Tried this place when we were in Portland in 2017 and it was great, so we tried it again on this trip. Unfortunately, it was not so great. First bad sign was the doors proped open; AC not working on a relatively warn day. We delt with that. Then; no soda (didn't say why). Settled for ice tea (light on the ice). Server was nice and apologized. She seemed frustrated and distracted. The place was busy, but not crowded and perhaps understaffed. The other staff seemed less than motivated. Took a long time to get our food but it was good. We didn't go back the rest of our time there even though we were staying nearby. Probably wouldn't go there again or reccomend it.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
This place reminds me of Anna Millers back home; open 24/7, lots of good pies, & breakfast served all the time. This is the first place we went to right after getting off of the plane before checking in, & it didn't disappoint. I had the Shari's combo with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, pancakes which was pretty good. My wife had a Trio, which came with a salad (average - cucumbers seemed a bit old), half a Turkey sandwich, & a slice of pie for a dollar more. We chose their Marion Berry pie (which the state is known for) which was different but good. Coffee was okay. Service was great. We were served by Mary who was very courteous & nice. We would definitely go back.

Yelp
I like Shari's, BUT, the Shari's on airportway E, I wouldn't take my enemy there!!!! Does not deserve the one star given!!!

David C.

Yelp
Solid place for breakfast and great service. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. Had the chicken fried steak and it was a large filling portion. Great place for an affordable, and filling meal before going to the airport. Fast, friendly and good food. Place isn't the best looking but it was close by and solid. Would go back for breakfast for sure.

David B.

Yelp
I placed an order through whichever system they were using went over 15 minutes later, and apparently my food and not been cooked. Between that and the people in the restaurant, I just decided it was not safe in so many dimensions and walked out. If they don't refund me the amount I'm just gonna dispute it through my credit card that's how awful it was.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Well, this was a great choice coming the Shari's Cafe! It was late and we had a long day working and Shari's was on our route back to the hotel. We decided to try it out. Wow!! Why did I not know if this places before!!! As soon as you walk in, there is a display cabinet FULL of delicious looking Pies and I couldn't wait to have a slice! We were seated at a table and we all (4) gave our very friendly and spunky waiter our order. I had the meat lovers platter with eggs over easy and a side of bacon and French Toast, It was delicious!!! I finished office the meal with their special Marion Berry Cheesecake pie as a SHAKE, now there is a consent!!! They take a piece of their pie, add a scoop of ice cream and make a shake out of it!!! I WAS AWESOME!!! I and definitely a fan of Shari's cafe and will definitely hit this cafe the next time I'm in Portland!!!

Yelp
My experience at this Shari's location has been terrible. We have been to other locatioins in the metropolitan Portland before and the overall experuence has been okayed. Their 2 for $25 special sounded interesting so we decided to dine there before attending our Broadway play. My daughter and I ordered the 2 for $25 special. My husband ordered the prime rib Benedict. First of all, there is no insert in the menu showing current special. And our waitress had no idea about the special. I showed her our newspaper ad with the special details. She totally missed our appetitizer. Then she got my 2 sides messed up. Our last visit at a different location, I asked for rice pilaf and they gave me something else. I didn't correct the order last time. This time they did it again. Instead of rice pilaf I got mixed vegetable. I corrected the side this time only to be disappointed of the taste of rice pilaf. It tasted stale and seemed to be made from a box. My steak was dry and bland and had absolutely no steak flavor. My daughter ordered chicken fried steak and my husband'prime rub bandedict were okayed. Somewhere in the middle of the meal, our waitress were sent home. She didn't tell the next waitress about our special which came with 2 pieces of pies. So we waited for a long time and couldn't get the attention of the new waitress. I finally just walked up to the waitress and ordered the pies. The worse part of our experience came when I tried to pay for the meal. Our original waitress entered each items we ordered as separate. She failed to enter a 2for25 code. The manager had to spend over 15 minutes to correct her mistakes. Somewhere during the correction she questioned what we ordered was wrong. I had to show her that we ordered per special ad on our newspaper. What happens to customers always right?! In the end, we almost missed our Broadway show since it added additional 20 more minutes to wait for the billing correction. If you live in Portland you know traffic is a nightmare going into town. We will not go back there and dine there anymore. We didn't like the food that much. The special pricing was good but the service was simply unacceptable.

Yelp
Almost impossible to download the app. Sherry's has a large senior citizen base, Including myself. I am going to the computer less and less as I as I get older, and I find it more and more frustrating.
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
Came in on a late Friday night for some video poker and some pie. Good service for sure. The video poker room is kind of sketchy. I don't come here often wanted some pie.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Positives first - Waitstaff was friendly, attentive and an overall pleasure to be around. Our orders were correct and came out pretty quick. Dining area was as clean as could be expected for a fairly old building. Negatives - coffee was extremely watered down, even for diner coffee. Food was kinda bland and greasy, again even compared to other chain diners. The parking lot was pretty sketchy, I wouldn't go to this location after dark. For basic diner fair it also seemed pretty expensive to me. I'm going to try another location, maybe for lunch so I can have some pie, which is what they are known for, but probably won't be back at this place.
google avatar

Joy D.

Yelp
I would say that this place reminded me of an ihop. Great food. Breakfast all day but they had lots of other choices. The portions were huge. I got the light fare and couldn't finish it. The French toast was really good. The eggs were fluffy and well done. My husband had the blt and he didn't finish it either. Just too much food. the bacon was really good. We did save room for a piece of pie that we shared. We had the Strawberry Rhubarb. The crust was flaky with large sugar crystals on top. It was awesome. The inside of the pie was slightly over sweet but still yummy.

Yelp
Loved it. Came here twice. 1st time, T-bone steak breakfast w/ stuffed hashbrown. 2nd time, chopped steak (but if you're from hawaii, it was a ono hamburger steak). Also tried the Marionberry cheesecake... it was GOOD! Just like the famous Ana Millers in Hawaii!

Tracy R.

Yelp
Service was the worse. The waiter, his name is G, he sat us to our table, 20 min later, he brings menus, 25 min later, he takes out order. Simple cheese burger, he didn't ever bring our drinks, the cook did.... We dined at the 181st and Powell sharpies. The best part is, he only had 3 tables to wait on. I spoke to the manager, she comped our meals, so that was good.

Yelp
Shari's has gone down hill in so many ways over the last year. Veteran's are no longer recognized as military (their words not mine). They've shut down multiple venue's and laid off a lot of the work staff. Quality has gone down, quantity too all while the prices have gone up and service has declined. I recommended Shari's a few years ago, now I'd recommend going to Elmer's or Denny's over Shari's. Too many negative issues and the change in both product and service means we won't be returning to Shari's even with a free slice of pie on Wed (which by the way appears to have shrunk as well). Many restaurants depend on repeat customers - with these recent changes - I'd guess that we're watching the slow decline of a once and rare dependable place to eat. Changing times or greed? I'll go with the later as during all of this, they've bought out another chain in California (Coco's) - and abandoned their old Shari's locations while laying off the workers. Not going back without a serious change in their management decision making. Would give it zero stars if that were possible. Adding one more observation, two years ago and before if you went here on a weekend, you'd expect to wait about 30 min for a table. Now, you'd be seated almost immediately because most of the tables are empty and very few customers are returning. It's sad, but my observation is that Shari's isn't going to be around for much longer at this rate - and even if they are - they've lost the appeal that made them such a great place to patronize. Curbside service is now also a thing of the past - you want that togo order, you'll have to come inside to pay for it... Yeah, that's not curbside....

Yelp
I'm a truck driver on the graveyard shift and I've been having a hard time finding good places to eat in the middle of the night. I was reluctant to try Shari's based on some of the reviews, but last night, with a hopeful attitude, I gave them a try. These are my thoughts based on a single visit. After making my drop at PDX, I swung by around 3:30am. I can confirm the place really was open. (Google and Apple have frequently led me astray during these unprecedented times.) The route from the airport was very convenient and there was ample parking for my truck. The dining area wasn't very crowded. I was promptly greeted, seated, and offered a menu. Since I'm on a schedule, I just asked for a Denver with hash browns and coffee. The food arrived quicker than expected and was piping hot. I was offered ketchup and hot sauce. I was given refills on my coffee. The food was delicious and pretty much exactly what I wanted. My server had personality and we briefly discussed how we both ended up on the night shift. The price was slightly high, about $17, but I was more than willing to pay since there are few other options. I appreciate that they are open. I plan to return at least once a week, maybe more.
