Detroit-style pizza with crispy, fluffy crust and burnt cheese

"Sharpie’s has crashed into our tavern-style-pizza-loving atmosphere with fantastic Detroit-style pies, arcade games, and a big spaceship hanging from its starry ceiling. (If you ask the staff about the last part, they’ll tell you a three-eyed dog flies it.) And like its intergalactic-themed dining space, this West Town spot’s focaccia-esque, caramelized-cheese-crusted pies are packed with personality. The pizzas have fun names like Mayan Time Traveler or Sausage Singularity, and flavorful toppings including mole with pickled onions, or sausage, ricotta, and calabrian peppers. Sharpie’s also has great cocktails, so you can sip a melony "Galactic Gift Basket" while eating at the bar or taking a crack at NBA Jam." - adrian kane, john ringor, nick allen, adrian kane, nick allen, nick allen, john ringor, john ringor, nick allen, john ringor, nick allen, nick allen, nick allen, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, adrian kane, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor, john ringor
"While eating here, you might hear the staff talk about Sharpie, the three-eyed dog that flies the spaceship hanging from this spot’s starry ceiling. We can't confirm the canine exists, but we can confirm that Sharpie’s Detroit-style pizzas are fantastic. Like the dining room covered in intergalactic decor and retro arcade games, the focaccia-esque, caramelized-cheese-crusted pies are full of personality. They have fun names like Mayan Time Traveler or Sausage Singularity, and flavorful toppings including nutty mole with pickled onions, or peppery sausage, ricotta, and calabrian peppers. Sharpie’s also has great cocktails, so you can sip a melony "Galactic Gift Basket" while eating pizza at the bar or taking a crack at NBA Jam." - nick allen, adrian kane, veda kilaru, john ringor
"Sharpies’ pizzas have as much personality as this West Town spot’s space-theme. Like the fondue-topped "Onion Eclipse," which tastes like french onion soup, or the "Sweet And Salty Space Candy" that's layered with bacon, sweet pineapple, and zesty sambal. The crust here has a nice chewy-to-crispy ratio with a glistening caramelized color that covers the entirety of its tall dough walls. Just know that the pies here are on the richer end of the pizza spectrum. We like to pair them with one (or two) neon, citrusy cocktails to balance things out." - john ringor, nick allen

"Sharpies isn’t a serious place. This West Town Detroit-style pizza spot has a giant UFO hanging above the bar. Everything on the menu has a space-inspired name, like Galactic Gift Basket (a cocktail). And the staff might drop some lore about a three-eyed, alien dog (Sharpie) along with an Onion Eclipse (a pizza). But behind its goofy dish names and kid's-cosmic-pizza-party-esque dining room are food and cocktails that are seriously delicious and seriously fun. photo credit: Kim Kovacik photo credit: Kim Kovacik photo credit: Kim Kovacik video credit: Kim Kovacik Pause Unmute Starting with the pizza. Each slice has a crispy bite followed by a pleasant chew. The surrounding frico fence crunches like brittle, contrasting to the melty fusion of brick cheese, mozzarella, and peppery sauce. And the funky toppings, like cheese fondue, sambal, or mole—which has vanished from the menu, so consider this our plea to bring it back—help Sharpies stand out when it comes to Detroit-style pies. photo credit: Kim Kovacik photo credit: Kim Kovacik photo credit: Kim Kovacik photo credit: Kim Kovacik Pause Unmute Sharpies’ playfulness extends past the pizza, from the vintage NBA Jam arcade cab at the front to the refreshing neon cocktails infused with “Atomic Juice” (which counteract the pizzas’ sometimes overwhelming richness and oiliness). And if you see friends pre-gaming a Hideout show with wings or couples introducing their kid to a blooming onion—err, a Burning Star—let those starters inspire your order, too. But the charm of Sharpie's isn’t just limited to a tasty meal. It’s a friendly reminder to be a little silly—a reminder that happens to come from an extraterrestrial canine named Sharpie. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Food Rundown Burning Star This blooming onion doppelganger is an excellent way to start your intergalactic meal. Each petal of this allium-turned-deep-fried-flower is sweet, spicy, and scores high on our very official Snackability Scale. Especially with added zip and smokiness from the Nashville ranch. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Wing Warp 6 - Full Sauce Ahead These six fried specimens are an excellent argument for Sharpies to change their subtitle to “Pizza, Cocktails, And Wings.” They’re craggy, crunchy, and come with sauce slathered on top of every square inch. Big Bang Buffalo is our favorite, but the Garlic Galaxy Glaze is a great non-spicy option. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Sausage Singularity On the topping spectrum ranging from most to least traditional, this is one of Sharpies’ more conservative pies. That’s not to say it’s conservative in flavor—each bite is full of fennel-forward sausage, some heat from calabrian chilies, and creamy ricotta. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Onion Eclipse We never knew we wanted French onion soup in pizza form. But this combination of caramelized onions, garlic breadcrumbs, and cheese fondue instantly made clear how naive we were. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Sweet And Salty Space Candy We’re pretty sure a wise man once said, “With great pineapple comes great responsibility—especially with pizza.” Sharpies thoroughly understands this adage. The trio of bacon, goat cheese, and sambal is salty and rich, but the tart pickled onions and pineapple balance things out. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Sharpies Beef We appreciate any type of homage to italian beef. But this pie is overloaded—the blanket of jus takes the already rich pizza over the edge, and the massive pile of giardiniera ends up masking the flavor of the beef. Cocktails Sharpies’ cocktail section is split up into boozier options and ones mixed with their housemade Atomic Juice. The latter are our go-tos—served over crushed ice and full of citrusy zip, they’re fantastic pizza palate cleansers. They come in fun electric colors with equally fun descriptions, like the Sharpies Hot Rod: a “souped-up whiskey sour from an alternate universe.” photo credit: Kim Kovacik" - John Ringor
