Heads up: When I arrived at 8:15, they were already putting chairs up. Google says they close at 10 PM, but I might’ve been cutting it close and showed up right at closing time. Food review: The oxtails were okay — very tender with a good amount of meat at the bottom of the plate, but flavor-wise nothing that really stood out. The wings were decent on their own, but once I added the spicy sauce, that’s when everything changed 😋. The sauce had a smooth heat that completely elevated the wings — easily the best part of the meal. Now let’s talk about the sides, because they absolutely stole the show. The cabbage and yams are a 10/10. I honestly don’t know what they did to that cabbage, but WOW. It had this crazy flavor combo — spicy, mild, a slight kick, and a perfect crunch. I’ve never had cabbage like that before. The sides alone bump the overall experience to a solid 7/10. Overall, while the mains were hit or miss, the sides and that spicy sauce make it worth trying. I definitely recommend checking it out for yourself — and I’ll be back when I get the chance.

One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. We had the jerk chicken alfredo pasta, the oxtail, mac n cheese, cabbage and plantains and everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chicken was so tender and the sauce was perfection. We had a little sample of the curry goat though and THAT was delicious, we can’t wait to come back and order a full plate. The staff were super nice and attentive and brought us hot sauces to try too. Great selection of drinks and sodas. Overall a really solid addition to the neighborhood with good food and good people

I recently move back home to Chicago from Madison Wisconsin and searching for real authentic Jamaican food, and finally it! The establishment is extremely clean, stylist, and bringing a grown and sexy vibe. The staff was courteous and respectful from the time I entered until I left. I placed an order for take out (Jerk Chicken, Planters, Mac n Cheese) with came out nice and hot. I was given extra sauce and eating utensils (Huge Plus). The food was so juicy and flavorful with every bite. I love this place! I love that the food can stay so juicy and flavorful, if warmed up for leftovers. Thank you for your service!

All I can say is - THANK YOU! We ordered for pickup and it was our first visit to Shattaz for anything. I had a craving and it was a stressful day. All I wanted was comfort food brought home to me. THIS was that comfort food. Absolute sweetest person on the phone to take the order, so I'd love to dine in sometime. When people are nice on the phone, it tells you something about a place overall. Flavors were all amazing! The pastry flake and flavor on the beef patties, along with the filling, is second to none. Beef patties are one of my favorite snacks ever. We will be back for more. Gonna need to try that goat curry next.

Google
What an amazing restaurant! Everything was packed full of flavor and the portion sizes were good. The jerk chicken Alfredo is one of the best pasta dishes I've ever eaten. The jerk chicken wrap was amazing too. Just the right amount of heat in everything so that it doesn't overpower the other flavors. Don't sleep on the sides either. The Mac and cheese, beef patty, and even the fries were all fantastic. Can't wait to try everything here including the oxtails and curried goat. Oh, and the vibe in the restaurant is great as well. Easy 5 stars!

Google
My first try. Was really good!! Had the jerk chicken, flavor galore, just right amount of 🌶️ for me, not over powering so was enjoyable! White meat(breast) was moist (very important) people tend to over cook white meat & it’s dry but this was perfect! Steam cabbage was excellent in flavor & had crunch to it- I especially lies that. The rice & beans was great! Beef patties just perfect in spice & flavor. Was a take out order - the food was hot which is very important for me & packed well. Enjoyed very much. Really praying they will succeed Give it a try I think you’ll enjoy!

Google
Had the Rasta Pasta 4/5 spicy, and it was fantastic. Side of candied yams was a really nice contrast to the heat of the dish. Shane the owner was warm & welcoming,Tiffany our server was delightful and they both made great recommendations. I live in the neighborhood and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I ordered jerk chicken entree, wings, shrimp, snapper and a bunch of sides. Everything was fire. Really excited to have this spot open up. Will be going back for sure. Also service was great. I eat Jamaican food a lot, this is authentic and they don't cut corners on anything. The best Jamaican/Caribbean I've had in Chicago.

Yelp
We were excited to have a Jamaican spot on the Northside so when my brother asked me to join him into checking this place out for dinner, I couldn't wait. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by the host and seated asap. Our server came right away as there weren't a lot of people dining in at the time. She was super friendly and easy to talk to, and answered any questions we had regarding the menu. For appetizers, we got the beef patties, and for dinner I ordered the jerk chicken wings with the rice and peas and plantain bananas for sides. Hubby got the curry chicken. We weren't blown away, unfortunately. The beef patties were decent. The jerk chicken wings were cold. It seemed like they were sitting there for a minute and they just heated them up in the microwave when I ordered them. I couldn't really get past the coldness and I couldn't gage the flavor as I already had a mental block. Hubby's curry chicken was okay - according to him. There was a slight damp odor that I kept getting a whiff off at the restaurant that I was a little disturbed by. From where we were sitting, looked like there is a bar/ dance floor area in the back. During dinner, reggae jams were playing in the background. Overall, a little disappointed. Since they were new to the area I was expecting more. May come back for the beef patties in the future if I had a strong craving for them.

Yelp
Authentic, Flavorful, and Worth the Visit! Stopped by for a quick lunch and left completely satisfied. I ordered the jerk chicken with cabbage and mac & cheese, and everything was spot on. The jerk chicken was juicy with that perfect smoky heat, the cabbage was fresh and well-seasoned, and the mac & cheese? Creamy, cheesy, and comforting in all the right ways. The food came out hot, fresh, and surprisingly fast which was a huge plus. You can tell it's made with care and authentic flavor. Definitely recommend if you're craving real Jamaican food that feels like home on a plate. I'll be back!

Yelp
Went to this place on a random weekend afternoon and it was surprisingly empty. We ordered to-go. The host lady was sweet as pie and the service was spot on. The food was very tasty. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our jerk chicken, rice and peas and yams. This was the first time I ever tried brown stew chicken and I've been feigning since I tried it. We're going back today for round 2!! We've finally found a great jerk spot close to our home. And I believe on fridays, it's live music. We will definitely check that out soon!

Yelp
We were in the mood for Jamaican the other night. We don't have a ton of options our way, but saw a new spot and decided to try it out. According to the owner they've been open for like 6 weeks. When you order Jamaican you never know what's going to be available so we decided to go in and order. There is plenty of seating on the inside including at the bar. The place was pretty empty around 5:00. There had been a couple people picking up to go orders. They ended up having everything. We order the oxtail meal with rice and peas and cabbage. We also ordered catfish with Mac and cheese and yams. We also got a beef party to share. The oxtails were good. I'm used to oxtails being more savory and these tasted like they were cooked in the same liquid used to cooked the stewed chicken. The catfish was good. The cabbage had some nice kick and the rice and peas were solid. Mac and cheese can always be hit or miss but this one was really good. It wasn't a baked Mac and cheese, more of noodles in cheese sauce. Overall this was a solid spot and if you're in the mood for Jamaican in the Irving Park neighborhood, definitely try this place out.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I got the Curry Goat and the meat patty! Sooo good!! Full of flavor and spices! The owners are some of the nicest people i've ever met too.

Yelp
Great customer service. Welcoming atmosphere. Food was really good. Oxtails were tender and seasoned. Could've had a bit more meat for the price but for the ambience and comfort was worth it. Jerk chicken was flavorful. Beef patties great. Will be back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
The food- I got the jerk chicken dinner which comes with two sides. The jerk chicken was flavorful, good grill bark, spice level was decent without spice. The accompanying sauce put the chicken over the top. Also got Yams and Mac and Cheese. The Yams were tender and just the right amount of sweet. The Mac and Cheese were not my favorite type of Mac and cheese as I prefer baked Mac and cheese but were very creamy and seasoned well. The Service- the owners of this spot were very welcoming, nice and attentive. A nice new addition to the neighborhood. They deserve all your support as a new Buisness and new Buisness owners. Go check the food out, it's a big menu and I will definitely be back to try some other options in the future.

Yelp
The service was friendly and the server was very accommodating with suggestions . The food was amazing! we had the oxtail and the escovitch fish and it was very tasty and well prepared. The jerk wings appetizer was delicious and well seasoned . This new restaurant has a great Jamaican ambiance with reggae music and a vibe . We are looking forward to going back soon for their authentic Jamaican breakfast . It's a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
I just ordered the curry goat. So. Darn. GOOD! To all my Irving Park neighbors: if you've never tried curry goat before, this would be an out-of-this-world experience for you. It is one of my favorite dishes on the planet. This place really puts pride into the art of their cooking on a palate level; you can really taste it. The thyme, pimento, curry, etc in the curry goat was delicious and comforting. Try something new and be delighted!

Yelp
There are so many Jamaican restaurants in the Chicago area that all you have to do is throw a rock in any direction and you would hit one. This restaurant stands out among the best authentic Jamaican Cuisine with exceptional service and value. The owner and his charming partner make it comfortable and feel at home if you just got off the boat :-). True Jamaican Cuisine has pepper in it as I found out when I had my dinner. It was so funny to me as my eyes were watering with the mouth full of flavor that I thought I can handle. Yes try this establishment, I do not recommend what I wouldn't do again. Enjoy!

Yelp
I really should've taken pictures but my husband and I devoured the food too fast! It all looked very appetizing. The fried snapper was super fresh and perfectly crisp. The sauce we got was spicy and tangy with peppers, so so delicious. Soft yams that were just the right amount of sweet. Their beef patty was packed with wonderful savory beef filling enveloped in a light flaky crust. This was my 1st time having bammies, which are crispy flatbreads with a soft comforting inside. I think they're made of yam or cassava?? Whatever it was I loved them, especially dipped in the pepper sauce that came with the snapper. Cabbage was well seasoned and cooked nicely without being soggy. Hands down, this is the BEST mac'n'cheese I've had in a looooooong time (maybe even ever). The jerk chicken had this delectable char on the outside but the meat was still juicy. Pared wonderfully with the rice and peas (or were they beans?). My husband ordered to-go and just came home with this incredible feast. He says they gave him very friendly service. This place being in the northern part of the city is awesome since we are used to traveling a ways to get Jamaican food. Amazing meal, HIGHLY recommend, we will definitely be back :)

Yelp
The customer service was great first and foremost but that's the only thing that was good oh and the plantains I ordered the white jerk chicken dinner saltfish and acki and a order or plantains okay so let's talk about the jerk dinner the chicken was overly dry like it was cooked the day before a something not sure but it was super super dry the rice and peas was super dry no gravy at alllllllll blew me but the plantains was really good the jerk sauce is pretty decent as well but let's get on to this saltfish so the menu says $17 got to the register they charged me $23 for literally a corner of saltfish I had more bread than anything it was okay wouldn't try it again but I'm really upset I spent over $50 here trying to support the new business the nice lady at the front seen the disappointment on my face when she seen the order of saltfish and said she would talk to the people in the back about it long story short I came I tried it and I will not return waste of all that money.!

Yelp
Came thru bc my homie said the place was solid. Staff was so kind and attentive while waited on our takeout order and made sure we had everything. When we got back to the crib, everything was knockout man. Got the jerk chicken dinner w/Mac and rice and it was really stellar. Reminded me of being a teenager hitting up some (now unfortunately closed) jerk places. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the Portions were really great too. Can't wait to bring my gf and other folks around once they start doing dine in. Pop in, you ain't gonna regret it.
