The Boston Area’s Best Falafel, Shawarma, and Kebabs | Eater Boston

"Situated in a student-friendly area of Brookline, this no-frills, counter-service establishment is great for quick service and quick bites. Shawarma King is recognized for its chicken, beef, and lamb shawarma, available as a plate or a sandwich, rolled up in a large pita (and thus convenient for on-the-go eating). Shawarma King is currently offering takeout and delivery (DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats)."

Google
Small restaurant that focuses on takeout. The service is great and the food is ready quickly! Very good shawarma! The plate serving is ample with plenty of rice, a good serving of hummus, a small salad and a pita. Make sure to ask for red and/or white sauce because they don’t always include it by default. The fries are pretty good. The arayes are also quite good. The salad needs more acid and seasoning…so some vinegar and salt…and maybe some parsley.

Google
Halal. I have been ordering from here since 2022, and they are consistently excellent. Really like their plates, falafel, arayes, baba ghanoush, wings, and hummus. I like their shawarma, but I LOVE their wings. Crispy and juicy with good meat on each. I think they have the creamiest hummus and best wings in Milwaukee. Their white garlic sauce tastes a bit too mayo-y for my preferences, but all my friends all liked it. I really like the mango sauce.

Lord, it's the consistency for me! Every time I come to this restaurant, I know I can depend on them to provide me well seasoned healthy food. So in honor of my daughter's excellent straight a student status I decided to treat her with the good stuff as we like to call it🤣🤣🤣 I love them so much.

- Arabic Mix Shawarma: Amazing flavor! - Mixed Grill Plate: Delicious and authentic. - Service: very Friendly , fast and attentive. - I would say it’s Great for takeout. - Small seating area inside. Overall, fantastic food and service. Highly recommend!

Google
Great sandwiches- but I ordered 5 for a group who worked all day, and only got 4...and they were labeled incorrectly. By the time I realized I was already back on set. It happens I guess, but was a huge bummer. Not a great first impression for a $70 order.

Google
Amazing experience overall. I had the number 35 and Ronno had the number 23. We both had grape sodas with dinner. First off, the dinner was delicious. I've never been a fan of hummus, but theirs is top notch and fresh! Plus the portions are huge for the price. There's not much space to sit or order food so would be better for takeout

Google
Uber eats order, so this review is based on the food only. The falafel arrived barely warm, but they tasted good. Salad and rice were bland. The rice tasted starchy, almost like bagged instant rice.

Google
Shawarma King has always been on my radar: 1. because it is the only restaurant open super late and 2. because it has such high raving reviews. Finally got to try it yesterday and wow it surpasses expectations!! The food is so so good. The meat is tender and juicy, the cucumber salad crunchy and fresh, and the hummus is the best hummus I have had in my life. I just got a plate this time, but the wraps look so good. This restaurant will definitely stay in the rotation.

Yelp
I start by saying I've never eaten in Shawarma King, but I love it and can't believe I haven't reviewed it sooner. This is my go-to spot for falafel. This is excellent: Arabic Falafel (veggie Wrap) - falafel sandwich on sharak bread toasted and cut small pieces. Comes with (humus, Arabic salad, tahini sauce and pickles) and comes with side humus, side pickles and side french fries. The wrap is tasty, great bread and excellent flavor, never too dry and the falafel itself is seasoned well. It comes with a ton of really good pickles and hummus. It's also easier to eat than the normal pita pocket presentation. The fries are addictive. My partner and I really enjoy the seasoning on them. My BF loves the Arabic Beef Shawarma, which says a lot since beef is not his favorite protein. The bread is great, the small slices are easy to eat and unusual. The flavor is on point. We each get at least two meals out of one sandwich order. The stuffed grape leaves are also very authentic and good. BF also enjoys their cheeseburger. I can also vouch for their lentil soup and the arayes cheese. Tasty food. I've ordered carryout for my mother and several house guests and no one has ever been disappointed. Good food. Good value.

Yelp
A solid Schwarma shop! We ordered and waited- it didn't take long. Food was nice and hot- and seeing size plentiful.

Yelp
I've only ever gotten take out and it's always been great! This most recent time I got the mixed platter with beef and chicken swarma. This came with hummus, pita bread, rice and salad (which I didn't want) but i was pleasantly surprised and even had leftovers for lunch! Food was great and came pretty fast! LOVE how they are open on the later side!

Yelp
Shawarma King serves up delicious tasty bites quickly and in friendly fashion. Stopped by here on a recent Saturday evening. We dined in but a note that their dining area consists of a window facing bar height counter and a few stools--they're very much a takeout sort of spot. That said we were so hungry and the food smelled so good---we couldn't resist the casual counter dining. I love their falafel wrap. The falafel is great (and not a bit dry) and it comes with pickles which makes the perfect accompaniment. For a reasonable upcharge you can get fries and a beverage. Do. Their fries are seasoned (curried, maybe) and are outta this world (especially if you get some of their garlic sauce for dipping!). I've also ordered their food for delivery and it arrived lightning quick and piping hot. You can order takeout or delivery right through the Yelp app! Get to it!

Yelp
We've gotten food from Shawarma King twice and it is a solid takeout option. Ordered online both times and the food was ready when promised with pickup being pretty efficient and quick. I love their wraps with the lebanese bread. l've tried the chicken shish tawook and the chicken kafta kabob, and I would recommend both. The wrap does get a little soggy pretty easily which makes it messy to eat, but the flavor is so good that I don't mind it. If you don't plan on eating your food right away I'd recommend asking for sauce on the side instead of in the wrap as that might help. The hummus appetizer is delicious and pita is good as well. If you get the hummus with meat the portion they give is pretty generous. I think the small is more than enough for 2-3 people to share. We have also gotten the mixed shawarma plate twice now, and while the flavor is good it was a bit dry both times. I think if we order this again I'd get some garlic sauce on the side to help with this. Otherwise, the portions on the platter are big and you get a nice variety with the rice (or salad/fries), cucumber tomato side salad, and hummus with pita. Be sure to get an extra pita to go with it!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I had just arrived to Milwaukee on a Friday and needed a late lunch after arriving to my friend's airb&b unit. They weren't home and I didn't have anything to make, so I quickly find this place on Yelp, called them up, and placed a takeout order! It was ready within 5 minutes and the food was just absolutely yummy. I love shawarma and middle eastern in general so I already knew what to expect, but the cut up pieces of this wrapped sandwich with consistent dips of the white sauce, the hot sauce (I asked for on the side) and some of the pickles really made each bite very enjoyable. No joke - I want this place to exist near me in Chicago. Very unassuming place from the outside in Riverwest, but definitely try it out.

Yelp
Cheap eats that are delicious are what I will recall from Shawarma King. The service is fast. They seem to cater more to take-out, but there is a counter for those of us who just stop in for a fast bite. I loved their pita and cheese, and my friend's wrap meal was massive.

Yelp
Ordered food from this establishment multiple times, receiving pretty OK food. Food was never particularly notable; it was simply sufficient for when I craved Middle Eastern food. Today, I ordered a good amount of food, only to find hair in my food. When I called the restaurant to explain that I found hair (not mine; it was light while mine is darker) in my rice, I was met with a rude person who couldn't even do the bare minimum and apologize for the disgusting lack of basic quality control. Absolutely disgusting, both in terms of quality control and lack of basic customer service.

Yelp
maybe this is more of a review of whoever was working tonight , but:... badically we didnt get sauces or the correct drink, and was still charged for it. the shwarma was the worst constructed shwarm ive ever bought. and the baklava was mid. Oy :( Not my best experience.

Yelp
Good food for a reasonable price. Very friendly staff as well. Best for take-out as there isn't much seating...only high-top stools

Yelp
Good! It was a lot of food but it was good. Mango lemonade was amazing! Will definitely return

Yelp
We ordered several dishes as takeout recently and liked about half of them. The Baba Ghanoush dish and the Humus in the plates of meat and rice were the most flavorful. The Falafel was also better than average in our view. In Mixed Gril Plate, the chicken chunks were clearly marinated well and freshly cooked, as they were flavorful, moist and tender. The beef chunks in the grill plate were quite bland, however, presumably because they weren't marinated as much. The Shawarma Mixed Plate had chicken and beef as well, and their flavors were so-so. Each plate dish also included a salad; the cucumber and tomato pieces in the salad had presumably been prepared quite a long time before, as they had little flavor and were rather soggy. The seasoned rice in the mixed plate dish seemed to have an ordinate amount of ghee, and I regret finishing the leftover rice in another meal because it benefited neither my taste buds nor my health. All in all, the different things we ordered varied in quality quite a bit. The restaurant seems capable of cooking tasty food, but the large menu might have made it hard for the cooks to ensure quality and reliability of its food.

Yelp
Fast service and great food with huge portions. The place was absolutely popping on a Saturday night. The mixed shawarma plate and Jerusalem salad were delicious. Every plate comes with rice, hummus, pita, cucumbers and tomatoes. There isn't much seating available inside so may be best to plan your food as a to-go order.

Yelp
Happily (so happy!) stand corrected. I love it when I return to a place and find it has improved! I was a bit disappointed with this place the first time I visited, because all the reviews were SO awesome, but I had that problem with dry beef and tad under seasoning. Then we picked up on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner, and they really wowed me. It was like they had a different chef. The rice and hummus perfectly packed with flavor, and not missing that 2% I couldn't pin point to last time. Salad was still boring, but that's ok. It went perfectly well with everything else that was super flavorful. Pita not sure why this tasted better than last time, but it was like it was more fresh? Maybe I just went on a bad day last time, and it was a day older or something. I might just stick to going on Saturdays from now on :) Chicken & Beef Shawarma So my problem last time was the beef being on the dry side, and this wasn't completely resolved. Both the chicken and beef shawarma were leaning towards dry, but still quite yummy. Would I order again? I would if they didn't have the grill items I will talk about next, but since they do, I'll probably not get the shawarma. Oh, and the portions on the mixed plate was not as great as when we had just the beef shawarma. Beef Shish Kabob The mixed grill plate came with 4 pieces of beef cubes (this must be 1 skewer, but they were packed without a skewer). These were hubby's favorite. The lamb chops were this good too. Beef Kafta Kabob The mixed grill came with 1 long piece that looked kind of like a breakfast sausage link. These were my favorite. Had great flavors, and super juicy. Chicken shish Tawook One skewer had 4 chicken chunks. Their menu says "grilled to perfection" and they're right. Boast away Shawarma King! It's easy to get chicken breast overcooked and dry, but unlike the shawarma, these were juicy and marinated just right for our tastebuds. Next time I order, I'll be totally undecided between the beef shish kabob, kofta kabob and the chicken tawook. Yes, I can just get the mixed grill again, but getting them in separate plates is so much cheaper... lol Oh, and as to the portions. We were totally happy to just share the rice and hummus from one plate. We each had our portions of the side salad. So we had a whole container of rice and most of the shawarma as leftovers for lunch, and it fed us both again. Previous review: ----------------------------- This joint has somehow escaped our notice for all these years... But we're so happy we found it! Overall, portions are super generous, and the food is good. Compared to similar restaurants, the food is less salty, but still quite flavorful. It feels more like home because of the less sodium. This was the first time in a LOOONG time that I regretted getting the 6 pieces of falafel. I wanted more. So far, hands down the best falafels in Milwaukee. Rice is not as packed with flavor as other places, but still really good and aromatic. Same goes for the hummus. Salad was boring. Pita bread was ok. Beef shawarma had heaping portions, but was on the dry side. I'm being picky though. I'd get it again. The lamb chops were delicious and right on moist. It's 5 stars except for the dryness of the beef... which I'd cross my fingers and try again, and I have a feeling it will be better next time.

Yelp
Love this place! Food is fantastic and staff could not be more welcoming. Hidden gem.

Stephen M.

Yelp
Absolutely the best shawarma I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Service was quick, portions were huge, and everything was so tasty! Also they gave us free hats. I mean, come on, how do you beat that??

Ms. A.

Yelp
Today is an update and my second review of this place. It was the worse order I have ever had and this was the 3rd time going to Shawarma King. I ordered the mixed plate chicken and beef and it was dry. The meat was cooked to hard and extra brown on the other side. The rice was clumped together and dry as well, some was hard. It was the worse food I have ever had. It tasted like leftover food. It was terrible and the person that came with me had a bad plate as well. My first visit and review the food was awesome, delicious but today, plain awful!! Needless to say , I won't be going back again because this place is not consistent with taste and freshness of their food!! I wasted $17 and she wasted $37 because she had 2 orders. I will no longer be recommending this place to anyone.

Yelp
Shawarma King definitely lives up to his name, and I wish I could give more than five stars!! I just moved to Milwaukee a couple weeks ago, after feeling like I've been living in the middle of nowhere, but it was certainly an ethnic cuisine desert. The day I moved here, I was so exhausted, so I turned to GrubHub for dinner. I'm Jewish, so the thought of being able to have some decent shawarma excited me, especially after such a long day. This is, hands down, the best chicken shawarma sandwich I've ever had in my life! Definitely upgrade to the shrak bread. I've already eaten from here three times in less than three weeks lol. I haven't tried anything else yet, aside from the Vimto. Which, if you like cream soda, you will like Vimto. 15/10 recommend!

Yelp
my favorite restaurant in milwaukee : ) food is good, people are extremely nice, and prices/wait time are really good too. plus, it's really cute on the inside- a true delight!

Matthew T.

Yelp
They're the king and that's no lie. If you like shawarma you'll like this place. Awesome falafel as well
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
What a hidden gem. This place seems off the beaten path but like other reviewers have said, the food and portions are A+. I got the mixed shawarma. The chicken was super tender. The lamb was a bit dry but I also went late on a Monday. The rice is flavorful. The pita was fresh and fluffy. The hummus has the right amount of olive oil on top. And the cucumber tomato side was refreshing. At $11.49, what a steal!!

Brian L.

Yelp
I ordered the Beef Shawarma wrap and it was very rich and flavorful! The staff were very kind and made my order pretty quick. The wrap itself was a good size for the price, though ordering the combo is probably a better value for those wanting a complete meal and lots of food.
google avatar

Ellie M.

Yelp
This place never disappoints (except when we crave shawarma at lunchtime when they aren't open!). The shawarma plates are good with either chicken or beef--the meat is always juicy and the rice fluffy. The hummus and salads are awesome, too. Always fresh.

Oksana O.

Yelp
Well I guess not sure why ratings are that high , chicken shawarma really dry , salad was horrible , only was kind of ok baba ghanoush. I am sorry don't want to hurt anybody's feelings but that's how it is .
google avatar

Leo Y.

Yelp
I was craving a savory, light dinner, and middle eastern seemed to be the perfect fit. I went with a ribeye sandwich in Lebanese bread, and although the bread was a bit tough, and the meat was a bit chewy, the pickles and tahini are what made it a great sandwich. Overall, for a dinner under $10, with a ribeye steak, you really can't go wrong. I'm would be interested in trying some of their platters on a future visit. The place itself is quite small, with limited seating, and seems to be set up as a primarily takeout establishment.

David R.

Yelp
Amazing flavors & wide selection of dishes to choose from. Staff is very friendly & helpful if you are unfamiliar with different dishes.

Yelp
Stopped in on my recent trip to Milwaukee. The chicken shwarma was very flavourful.the wrap was good, but sauce was a little too salty for my taste.
google avatar

Lakesha W.

Yelp
The way I love this place there is only one reason and one reason only to come here and that is to get authentic wonderful Shawarma, the spices everything is exactly as advertised. This is food that I cannot cook at home. The meat has been wonderfully marinated. Everything is on point it's a little small hole in the wall for you to get your food. go home, and eat up and also have a little bit of leftovers. I highly recommend.

Samvel P.

Yelp
Literally the best Shawarma in town, we tried this place last week and already came back few times since. I highly recommend it for Shawarma lovers, you will love it!

Ashley C.

Yelp
Best shwarma in Milwaukee. Best service. Best vibes. Best food. If you eat anywhere eat at shwarma king. So good
google avatar

Cullen Louis A.

Yelp
I visited Milwaukee for the weekend and I ate at this place for four meals in a row. Incredible shawarma, best I've ever had.

Pretty R.

Yelp
This was some of the best shawarma if not the best I have been able to find in the city of Milwaukee. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Looking for a late night snack after a night in Riverwest? Shawarma King is your place to go. It's not fancy or spacious, but their meat is well seasoned, their fries were hot, and the service was quick. I prefer late night shawarma over late night pizza 9 out of 10 times. I had a chicken shawarma wrap with fries and then shared a side of falafel - it was as described above and the portions were generous. The falafel was freshly fried and oily as expected, with the most delightful crunch. I was able to toast my wrap the following day and it tasted just as good, if not better. I hope they are here to stay for a long while to diversity the late night scene in Milwaukee, because I know that I'll be back for more when I come back to Riverwest!
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
This place is amazing! It may seem only like a "late-night, stumbling in from The Foundation across the street kind of place," but that would be a dreadful assumption. During my short time living back in MKE, this is some of the BEST take-out I've had anywhere. My bf gets the beef shawarma plate and I get the chicken shawarma plate ($14.50 each) and they feed us both for at least two meals. The meat is tender and immensely flavorful. The rice is perfume-y and just right. The pita is puffy and fresh and simply must be homemade. The hummus has just the right amount of oil on top of it. The Arabic salad is fresh and tasty with cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, vinegar and spices. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this spectacular Middle Eastern food! Plus, the service is fast, friendly and efficient. And because it's only a to-go spot, the food is packed to travel.

Richard R.

Yelp
The shawarma mixed plate was delicious and the service was wonderful. Perfect experience start to finish 100% recommend.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
The chicken shawarma is amazing. The falafel even better. Their rice, which by they don't know how good it is, is slipped on as a healthy side and worth the trip in itself. Service is pleasant and quick.
google avatar

Irene A.

Yelp
I think this place made the falafel just for me . The place is always clean and food is always fresh. We love this place

Aidan B.

Yelp
My fav place near the east side. Big ass plate for great value they give u so much food I can never even finish it so goated I love u shawarma king
google avatar

Kristine M.

Yelp
We're visiting Milwaukee from out of state and ordered delivery from Shawarma King almost at random to keep from driving. OH WOW- I'm ready to move here just to have their falafel every week! Never had such light, fluffy delicious falafel. Baba ghanoush and tabouli also fantastic. Really a cut above the usual Mediterranean fare.

Shabaz K.

Yelp
Best, flavorful, and clean eating in the area! Portions are great. The owner takes pride and is very passionate in the food he serves. I would highly recommend Shawarma King. I've been here 3x this week!

Tiffany P.

Yelp
I got a shawarma mixed plate (chicken/beef) with Yelp delivery. It came with rice, pita, and hummus and cucumber sides. A lot of food and really tasty! I eat a lot but still had some leftovers. I loved the beef and would get just that next time.
google avatar

Tasha B.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a minute from the outside it don't look too good look like a hole in the wall place which will be surprise customer service was amazing the food was hot fresh and so good I definitely will return soon

Skid R.

Yelp
I've ordered from Shawarma King over a dozen times and they never disappoint. I normally order out and I rarely have to wait over 30 minutes to get my food. The food is freshly prepared, and still warm when it gets to my house. The falafel wrap is my absolute favorite. I've recommended SK to friends, and they've never had a bad thing to say about the food.

Eli B.

Yelp
The falafel sandwich is my go to! Love a late night shwarma king. Riverwest staple. Gotta try this place if you haven't!
google avatar

Marisa N.

Yelp
Great late-night food. Love the mushrooms Swiss burgers and the fries. They sometimes close at 1230 though, probably due to covid.

Noah S.

Yelp
If you're looking for delicious Middle Eastern food, come on down to Riverwest and get it here. Their shawarma is delicious and their falafel fantastic. It's a small space, so you're not going to dine in, though you could. The best move is to get it to go. For a perfect combo, order some food and then go across the street to The Foundation for Milwaukee's best tiki drinks.

Keegan G.

Yelp
Just a shawarma king looking for a shawarma queen. Made us feel like royalty. Jason Statham was on the TV

Kinzie L.

Yelp
Honestly a hidden gem. Food is delicious. For appetizers I recommend falafel and arayes. I always get the shawarma mixed plate and have leftovers for the next day. Also the chocolate cake is pretty good.

Emmie G.

Yelp
Honestly, one of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite to eat! I will say I've only ever had the falafel wrap here and fries, but man is that a great meal to have. I have always been met with quick service and quality food. Will continue my patronage here (-:
