I ordered a ham and cheese panini, a latte, and a ham and cheese croissant. Everything was so good. The croissant was flaky, the panini was warm and tasty, and the latte was smooth. I really enjoyed it and will definitely come back.

Google
This is my favorite cafe! I tried a croissant and drip coffee for a first time couple months ago, they’re really good! Then I came back here recently and I found cold brew is also superb! Definitely it’ll be my summer drink before work! I tried some baked goods, so far my favorite is croissant, cinnamon roll on top w fresh cream cheese, chilli soup and blueberry scone which is more like soft cookie! can’t wait to try other baked goods too!

Google
So glad we got to try this gem while visiting from Portland! The staff were so friendly and the food was amazing. The pretzel rolls, tiramisu, and mocha were all delicious. We’ll definitely be back every time we’re in town.

Melody H.

Google
Perfect bagel great cold brew INCREDIBLE staff. Really friendly offered me as much cream cheese as I wanted extra ice after I drank some of my cold brew. Really felt taken care of. Will be back. There’s small seating outside and a park next door but no indoor seating as far as I could tell. But who wants to eavesdrop on Mercer island anyway

Google
With all the bakery options around, this is hands down my favorite. Everything is consistently fresh, flavorful, and clearly made in-house. The coffee is excellent as well. They’re closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, which might sound inconvenient at first, but it actually makes the experience feel even more special when they’re open. The staff are always warm, attentive, and genuinely kind in the smallest but most meaningful ways. For example, they’ll step out from behind the counter to find you, hand you your order, and thank you personally—such a simple gesture, yet it says a lot. They treat first-time visitors and regulars exactly the same: always welcoming, always gracious. The sandwiches are excellent, and the homemade soups—paired with their house-made pretzel roll—make this a true destination, not just a stop. Highly recommended.

Google
The energy of the staff was amazing, very caring team with my coffee, I got an iced Mocha and it taste amazing, not too sweet not too bitter, perfect amount of chocolate (they melt the chocolate into the espresso), comes as a 16oz size for iced, Chai was great as well, housemade, perfect balance between sweet and spicy, good amounts of cardamom and cinnamon with a hint of ginger. Bagels were great as well, got an everything bagel (tasted like it had garlic), perfectly toasted and a perfect amount of cream cheese! We love mom and pop vibe shops, very homey, very local feeling, definitely will be coming back again!! :)

Ming C.

Google
The bagel was freshly made but they could improve the overall cleanliness in their store.

Google
First time to get such GERMANY Brezel in Seattle, it reminds me of my old days. Love it! Wonderful coffee and cozy atmosphere, too.

Yelp
The staff are incredibly warm and friendly! We always feel welcome here. The food here is wonderful. Their pretzel rolls (with their mustard sauce) always hits the spot. The cinnamon rolls have the right texture, all the way through the center! We tried the chocolate walnut banana bread recently, and it immediately made its way into our rotation.

Yelp
We visited Shawn's Bakery on Mercer Island for a Sunday lunch. It's a cute little spot, but be aware that there are only a few outdoor seats. The bakery was quite busy, with a steady stream of customers. The selection was a bit limited when we arrived, possibly because it was late on a Sunday. We ordered a turkey panini and a coffee. The panini was perfectly toasted with nicely melted cheese, though I wished it had more fillings. I also found the coffee to be on the bitter side. We want to come back to try their challah and pretzel rolls next time!

Yelp
Stopped by after visiting the park nearby and glad I'm did! This is a very small, cute cafe with some outdoor seating and convenient parking. I ordered the fig, goat cheese, and prosciutto panini and it was so yummy! Very creamy and a decent price compared to seattle/bellevue prices! I also got the mini cheesecake. It didn't have the flavor or texture I was expecting at all but I enjoyed it! Very mild and a little more firm than expected. I'm looking forward to trying more paninis and fresh baked items!

Yelp
I normally don't like coming into places 30 minutes before they close but I really needed caffeine. The staff were so friendly and she was chatting about the mocha I ordered saying it was her favorite because they use real chocolate that they melt down ! I wish I lived closer, I would be coming here often ! If you're in the area this cute little cafe is definitely a place you want to stop by

Isabel M.

Yelp
Shawn's is becoming one of our regular weekend spots. It is unassuming and local feeling, and food is always great!
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
Very cute coffee shop. Easy parking as well. The staff is very friendly and I love all their options. Chai tea was ok. I got a panini thay was not as crisp as I'd expect. More like warmed and only a bit melted. Their desserts look amazing! I'm hoping to try the cheesecake or Boston cream next time i stop by.

Yelp
Went back and was just as good. Support local businesses. Had a blueberry scone and it was delicious.

Nolan W.

Yelp
Favorite cafe in Seattle. Small, quaint, great service, delicious pastries, bagels, and coffee. Family run. Stop by!! Love this place

Deborah P.

Yelp
Not an MI resident and didn't known about Shawn's. I saw the sign while walking my dog and stopped in. SO GOOD. Great coffee and a sublime cinnamon roll. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Was walking by and decided to stop in and so happy we did!! This place is a hidden gem and felt like a local spot. We got a loaf of sourdough bread and it was AMAZING. Best loaf of bread we've had in the states so far!!! Looking forward to going back often and trying everything on the menu.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab a bagel on our way to an appointment (we don't live in the island) and found this spot on Yelp. We're so happy we went. We ended up getting a pretzel bun and a panini (forgot the bagel because everything sounded so good!) and they were both fantastic. The panini had thick turkey slices on it and the perfect crispy outside, and the pretzel bun was unreal. We thought about going back after our appointment! We will definitely be back.

Yelp
This is a 4.5 star review, and has a potential for a 5 star once I come back :) We came by in the afternoon and grab whatever is left and there was still a good variety. The people there are pretty nice and friendly. It's not in the main area of Mercer island so you definitely need to be looking for it to find it. Bagels 4.5/5 - we got the sesame bagels and the sea salt bagel. Since it was near the end of the day, it wasn't as fresh, but once you toast it, omg it makes a difference. I love the texture, it has a hard crunchy exterior and a soft/fluffy interior. Pretzel rolls 5/5 -- ok this is one of the best pretzel rolls I had. I guess that's why he is famous for this. It was soft and fluffy and has a salty flavor but not too overpowering. We had it the next day and it's still good Cinnamon rolls 4.5/5 -- I'm not sure what type of frosting he use but it's super addicting. I put the cinnamon roll in the microwave for about 20 seconds and it was perfect. It didn't harden up fast like some cinnamon roll I had before. Chocolate chip cookies 3/5 -- unfortunately this was the least favorite. It was pretty standard. The appearance look like there will be some crust edges but it was all soft so kinda disappointing, but it's my personality taste. Overall, a pretty nice place to check out if you're in Mercer island. It's more of a homey casual Bakery compare to the other bakeries on Mercer island. I definitely want to come back to try their challah bread which is only on Friday :)

Anais P.

Yelp
the person making our drinks handed them directly to us then asked my partner if he wanted ice on the side for his iced mocha since they melt real chocolate which warms the drink up a bit. i thought this was very intentional, direct and caring to ask. the house made chai was also the perfect amount of spicy and sweet. the bagels were toasted wonderfully with a solid amount of cream cheese and great flavor. i got the sesame bagel and my partner got the everything bagel. you can tell they care for each individual person and are passionate about their business.

Yelp
The breakfast pastys they have here are amazingly good. The service is great, and I love the coffee. Unique flavor and stands out from the others. THey have good seating, so its good to come in and chill out. Lovely place!

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD, very delicious!! My sister and I ordered the pesto mozz panini n fig goat cheese panini, these were so bomb !!! We ate them so quick we didn't even take pictures

Jennifer Daniels ..

Yelp
Such a unique spot with amazing, authentic freshly baked goods and great coffee. The pretzel rolls alone are worth the stop!
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Food: - Black sesame bagel 3/5, really chewy and dense. - Cinnamon roll, croissant and more for the rest of the group: not bad, fairly standard for bakery. Ended up stopping by here on our way out from Mercer Island, should've stopped here first to have better selection! By the time we came, at near noon, there was only the one bagel variety.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem on Mercer Island that stands apart from all the bougie places in the downtown area. It's in an unassuming building near the freeway, and you probably wouldn't find it unless you were looking for it, but it's worth checking out. The star here is the pretzel rolls. They are huge, fluffy in the middle, come with a tasty mustard dip, and are good eaten alone or used for a small sandwich. Definitely get several to take with you. Their almond croissant is also really good. It's flaky, gooey, chewy, and sweet all in the best ways. The cinnamon roll we had was alright, a bit too heavy on the butter in the frosting for our taste, and a little dry. Service was friendly as well and pretty quick. All in all it's worth a trip.

Jason L.

Yelp
Great coffee and scones. Fast service. I loved picking up coffee here and then heading to Luther Burbank Park

Robert B.

Yelp
Wonderful baked goods and soups. Shawn is a master baker with a solid background. His team is amazing!
google avatar

Rach C.

Yelp
Super cute local bakery and fresh goods. It's kind of tucked in but there's a sign to enter. Everything looked yummy and got two bagels to go with banana chocolate bread loaf.

Leslie W.

Yelp
Loved the food and coffee! Good variety of food offerings too especially my favorite ham and cheese croissant!
google avatar

Jane T.

Yelp
I stopped by the bakery to get a cup of coffee and a pretzel. My puppy was thirsty so I asked if I could get a glass of tap water. I was told that the place doesn't give out tap water and if I want to get water I need to buy the one in the plastic bottle. I personally don't drink water out of plastic bottles, especially since the quality of tap water in Seattle is pretty good. But in any case, I didn't think that this kind of response from the staff was acceptable. Tap water was within reach just a few feet away and there was no particular reason why the staff could not accommodate the customer.

Yelp
This place is a gem! It's tucked away from most of the shops on Mercer but easy to find if you are looking for it and there's parking right out front! I ordered a vanilla latte lightly sweetened and also tried the pretzel bun with mustard. Everything was great! I usually don't like pretzel buns but this one is worth trying. I'm a huge fan of mustard in general and I would buy this mustard dip if I could! Lastly, I would say the service is also great! Very personable and I will definitely come back not just for the food and drinks, but also because I enjoyed the conversations I had.

Kieran M.

Yelp
Went here for Sunday breakfast and everything we ate was amazing. The bagel, the butter bar, and the coffee were all delightful. Very friendly and helpful service as well. Next time I am on Mercer Island I certainly will stop here for breakfast again!

Yelp
When we talk about local restaurants or cafe, @shawnscafeandbakery is the definition of the words local, community, and neighborhood. Shawn the owner and baker of this adorable cafe is one of the sweetest and caring owner I've met yet. He cares deeply about his customers and wants to make everyone happy. Now let's talk about his bakery items. HIS BAKED GOODS ARE DELICIOUS! He makes everything in house in his small shop. He offers challah on Friday's and cinnamon rolls on the weekends. His croissants though, man so many layers! It's seriously one of the best croissants I've ever had and I'm talking about his plain butter one! You know a bakery is awesome when their plain croissants are good! There's nothing flashy or complex about this cafe but all his baked goods are delicious and made of love. If you're ever in Mercer Island, def stop by to order some foods and just have a conversation with Shawn. It felt so nice to see the whole neighborhood stop by his cafe even 30 min before closing.
google avatar

Anne C.

Yelp
Two words: Pretzel Rolls. Shawn's has the best pretzel rolls I've ever had. They are richly flavored on the outside, that perfect baking soda caramelized tang, with a good amount of salt, and then soft and squishy and chewy on the inside. These are worthy and they call for you to make the journey to Shawn's. The challah is also outstanding, a beautiful outside texture vs inside texture contrast, an eggy sweetness on the inside, and only available certain days of the week. If you time it right, you can get warm bread. Last time I drove home with a hot cinnamon roll next to me, and when I got home it was still warm. We're fond of all the baked goods at Shawn's, and appreciate the fact that this is very much not a chain, rather a small sole-proprietor bakery, with Shawn pulling the hot rolls out and then handing you one.

Yelp
Stopped in for a latte today and pastries. We had the cinnamon roll and almond croissant. Everything was delicious and I especially loved that things weren't outrageously overpriced like every other place on Mercer Island. Will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Dave T.

Yelp
Every time I drive by here it's closed. Again, I'm here and you're supposed to be open. I checked the hours (again) before I drove over. I give up.
google avatar

Tammy B.

Yelp
Outstanding spot for a nice breakfast al fresco. The most delicious croissant and a latte that was perfection! Such a sweet, cozy place. Happy I found it.
google avatar

Thao H.

Yelp
I came in on a Friday morning expecting a hidden gem, but to my surprise the croissant I bought was sugarless and not flaky or airy. The only thing this cafe/bakery have going is the nice older gentlemen at the counter.

McKenna C.

Yelp
Love the prezetal balls and chocolate croissants. Can get a bit pricy when you start ordering more than a couple of things but that's ok because it's good.

Krystyna S.

Yelp
I love this bakery so much. It's always a treat. Yes, the pretzel rolls and bagels are absolutely amazing but yesterday we spotted a focaccia bread. Best focaccia I've had - hands down. We are considering going back today just to get another. Everyone is so friendly. Shout out to the awesome girl at the counter. She's always so sweet! Thank you Shawn's! We absolutely love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
This is our first time in the area, so we decided to come check this place out. Quaint, little cafe. Friendly employees. They offer a variety of paninis, smaller menu and some drinks. No seating inside, they have three tables outside. We ordered two sausage and egg paninis and a hot chocolate and americano. All delicious.
google avatar

Alan F.

Yelp
We stopped by for a quick breakfast, not knowing what to expect. We were thrilled to enjoy delicious fresh bagel with egg, sausage and cheese sandwich out on the patio. The seating inside was small and cozy, but the sun was out. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

MiKall D.

Yelp
Wow, just wow. Stopped here because we were looking for a coffee shop that isn't starbucks. Hands down the best cinnamon bread I've ever had. My latte with oat milk was equally delicious . Please support your locally owned coffee shops like this one - these places deserve our business!
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
We love this bakery, its caring owner and great staff. We have been ordering almost weekly from this cafe through Covid. The homemade soups along with freshly baked pretzel rolls (slathered in fresh cream butter) are amazing. We love the clam chowder every Friday and the Mexican Wedding Soup with little meatballs is light and delicious. The croissants, bagels and breads are also delicious. We love our locally owned businesses!! Especially fresh baked goods, homemade soups and sandwiches made fresh every day.

Nancy L.

Yelp
The prosciutto, goat cheese and fig jam sandwich had way too much jam, and hardly any goat cheese or prosciutto. Bread was nice tho. They were out of pretzel rolls. Husband's ham and Swiss was very good.

John K.

Yelp
Delicious warm white chocolate raspberry scone and perfect iced latte. Relaxing atmosphere on beautiful Mercer Island. Personal service and so glad we found it.
google avatar

Sisi L.

Yelp
One word, AMAZING! Shawn's Cafe and Bakery is the best place to go if you want a warm soft pastry. First of the food is amazing, the staff is friendly and helpful! What more could you want from a place? I would 100% recommend this place to my friends! I conclusion I love swinging by to get a delicious croissant!
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
Always worth stopping by for their pretzel rolls. As mentioned, there are only a couple tables inside and a couple outside on the patio, so it isn't really a cafe you would stay for an extended period of time and get work done.
google avatar

Morgan J.

Yelp
Sweet little spot with just a few small tables inside and 3 or 4 small tables outside. The small patio is dog friendly. The owner is dog friendly, too! He makes his own dog treats. A great compliment to a delicious (often warm out the oven!) chocolate chip cookie and a hot or iced espresso beverage! You can request to have your sausage egg and cheese panini on a pretzel roll :)
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Shawn's the man! So glad to support his steady expansion as others spread the not-so-well-kept secret of his baking talents. Challahs on Friday, billowy croissants, sandwiches, those pretzel rolls!! Everything he makes is just delicious.
google avatar

Tejas B.

Yelp
We went there on a Saturday morning and were pleasantly surprised by the food here. We got the pesto mozzarella panini which was really well made and tasty. We also got the chocolate croissant which was really fresh. Overall we liked it and would definitely visit again.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Simple, great service, inexpensive, friendly unpretentious simple little bakery. Really good coffee. Kids working there are great. The coffee shop I hoped for.
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
After living on Mercer Island for six months, we finally made it to Shawn's for the infamous pretzel rolls! It was perfect timing, as a fresh batch was just being pulled out as we walked in. With hot loose leaf tea and mustard sauce for dipping, it was a perfect start to a rainy Saturday. Will definitely return to try those cinnamon rolls and paninis! Tip: They offer day old pastries for $1! (Almost) good as new after a few seconds in the microwave. :)
google avatar

LaShonnu B.

Yelp
Great small cafe with amazing coffee and snacks! The pretzel rolls are amazing, and I'm pretty sure you can't just eat one! Shawn is friendly and welcoming. Always makes time to have a chat with you as he's getting your order together. Shawn's is definitely a Mercer Island must try!
google avatar

Kristie S.

Yelp
We happened to drive by on our way for an Offer Up pick-up and decided to stop in afterwards. We ordered a ham and cheddar croissant, blueberry scone and two pretzel rolls. They heated up the croissant for us... there was NO WAY I could wait until we were hone to eat it. Oh my heaven... I don't think I've said, "Mmmm mmm mmm" so much while eating something. It was the perfect balance of delicious ham, cheese and buttery croissant goodness! If your on or near the island, definitely show them some love!
google avatar

Troy T.

Yelp
Don't bother at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Employee was preoccupied and threw a sandwich together so quickly it wasn't close to warm. Fell apart into pieces as I tried to eat it. Highly disappointing considering all the good reviews.
