The Best Restaurants in Flushing’s Chinatown | Eater NY

"Regional food from the Shaxian district of the Fujian Province is a rare find in NYC, and the growing Shaxian Snacks chainlet is the place to get it. This simply designed spot in the once-vibrant corridor of Union Street welcomes lots of regulars who come for well-executed dishes at affordable prices. The miniature Shaxian wontons are a must-get. With long slippery drapes of wrapper, they look like tiny ghosts swimming in a light and savory peanut broth. The beef soup features thin slices of beef, al dente carrots and a clean, light broth of white and ginger. The soy bean paste noodles are heaping with minced pork and cucumbers." - Caroline Shin

A different and new cuisine in the neighborhood. Staff is sweet and prices are competitive. The con is that the dishes are overly salty.

Not sure why this place has so much hate. I’m always down for more affordable and healthy fuzhounese food in Queens. The staff has always been nice to me every time I have gone. The classic humble fuzhounese lunch is the Shaxian peanut butter noodle and wonton soup. If you can’t appreciate it, you probably not from fujian.

The food is very delicious especially those steamed rice sets are amazing. The portions are plentiful plus very clean presentation of both the food and the atmosphere. What a gem.

Great addition to the neighborhood for casual snacks. The portions are generous and staff friendly. Was able to get a beef rice noodle 7.50 and fish dumplings for 6. Veggies were fresh and braise beef well cooked. Hard to beat that kind of price in this economy.

The food is tasty, consistent and simple Can’t really go wrong here - I get that maybe the other reviews were expecting something different, but in my experience - I was very happy.

Yelp
Shaxian Snacks is a chain from Fujian China serving Fujian cuisine. They actually 4 locations in the NYC area, with this one being the newest one. As such, this place still looks new and is super clean. It is a smaller place but they have a full menu with noodle soups, dumplings, congee and rice platters. I personally recommend the peanut noodles and the wontons, which are both comfort foods in the cuisine. The peanut noodles had a unique, rich and nutty flavor. The wontons (which are available steamed or fried) are juicy and fresh. The prices here are amazingly cheap and you can easily have a full mela here for less than $10.

Yelp
First of all, the food is incredible. It was my first time eating Chinese food, and not Chinese American food, so I was a bit nervous. As soon as I walked in, I noticed it was empty. Don't let this fool you, though. The restaurant can get quite busy at times, which makes me glad given the quality of the food. It's overall quiet and peaceful, with some tv playing in the background. The workers are really friendly, and they give you some tea as soon as you sit down. I opted for the hot and sour fatty beef noodles, and the fried dumplings. The food came out really quick, a lot quicker than I had expected--I was ready to wait 20 minutes at least. I was given a warning that the noodles were the spiciest item on their menu, but I ordered it anyway. They were pretty spicy, as they left my mouth feeling numb, but it was good regardless. The fried dumplings pretty much stole the show. As soon as you bite into it, a bit of flavorful liquid bursts into your mouth, and the filling is amazing. Ive ordered the fried dumplings maybe three times now. I've gotten the shaxian wontons recently, too, and it's perfect. Silky, and a little chewy, with a nice broth. Amazing restaurant.

Yelp
Good service- staff was friendly and I didn't have to wait too long for the food. Food was served piping hot. Ordered: + Wontons (tasty broth with a lot of wontons! Probably around 20 wontons) + Hot & Sour noodle soup with fatty beef (good for those that like spicy- you'll definitely feel some tingling on your lips) Great portion size (enough to share) & both dishes were tasty. Great prices too! The restaurant is clean and on the smaller side (several small tables spread throughout the space). I'll definitely have to go back and try some other dishes.

Yelp
Definitely enjoyable and affordable! The dishes are simple, clean and have good flavor. The peanut sauce they provide is not over seasoned and compliments the spiced dishes well. One down side is the steamed buns - the ratio of filling to bun is off by 1/3rd. Overall, I'll be ordering again for sure.

Yelp
We ordered fried dumplings and brined combo as an appetizer. As the main meal we had two peanut noodles, wonton soup, spare rub soup with poplar mushroom, and hot and sour noodles with fatty beef. The portion size was perfect for three people. Service was quick. They give you a cup of water and it's self refill. The vibe is more street style. Good for a quick bite!

Yelp
Food came out super quick and they gave a decent size portion. I like how the noodles came with preserved vegetables so it balanced the flavors. Noodles also came with soup. Would definitely go back and try more food.
