Yelp
My mom, who lives nearby, and I have wanted to try this place for a long time. Time off from work due to injury freed up some time, so I took her here for lunch on a recent weekday.
Shayna's Place is pefectly located in downtown historic Wickford, with plenty of parking, either on street, or in a nearby municipal (free) lot. For the size of the restaurant, there is a decent number of tables inside, and a few sidewalk tables. My mother especially admired the custom-built bar, with wainscoting and black walnut top. We even got to meet and talk with the owner (who is a former builder, and built that bar himself).
Ambiance is top-notch, and there is always mood-setting music playing. We were told by an employee that much of the music is chosen by the owner's daughter, Shayna, who will even go so far as to tailor the music to the tastes of whichever employees happen to be working on any given day. On our first visit, we were listening to song covers played on classical guitar. Speaking of employees, we found each employee to be extremely polite and cheerful (a rarity these days).
Being an Italian grinder afficionado, I just had to try the Vinny's Kitchen, which is Shayna's rendition of the sandwich, and voted best Italian grinder in Rhode Island by USA Today. If you read some of my other Yelp reviews, I have two favorite places for Italian grinders. Well, after eating Shayna's, I now have three favorite places for Italian grinders. All three are excellent, with fresh ingredients, yet different with their own nuances. Shayna's has the advantage, though, since they're closest to me, and have way better ambiance than my other two sandwich spots. So, yeah, for me, they have the best Italian grinder!
Now that we have that out of the way, their fresh lemonade, and chocolate chunk cookies, were also excellent. So, I noticed other reviewers complained about the prices. True, they're not cheap. But, to me, they're not outrageous. There's two things to consider: First, there's this thing called inflation. Second, it's worth paying a premium for the ambiance. The ambiance was so good, in fact, that my mom wanted to go back a few days later, for coffee, and our second experience there was just as uplifting as our first.
