Eastern Market has hired Ederique Goudia to manage its community kitchen in Shed 5 | Eater Detroit

"Starting January 1, a veteran chef and consultant with more than 20 years in foodservice and entrepreneurship — Chef Ederique Goudia of In the Business of Food/IBF Detroit — will manage the community kitchen in Shed 5 under a three-year contract, shifting the space toward stronger mentorship and business development. Opened in 2015 to meet high demand from small-scale food entrepreneurs, the licensed, shared commercial kitchen is rented by the hour by 19 food-based businesses and offers on-site storage and a broad inventory of equipment. As manager she plans to provide hands-on coaching, curriculum-based training developed with local nonprofits, and programs such as ServSafe certification to help users improve operations, scale their businesses, and meet food-safety requirements. Regular users sell at the market’s weekend marketplaces, and tenants cite practical benefits like consolidated fridge and freezer space, an ice machine, and a dishwasher that eliminated the need to shuttle ingredients between locations during the pandemic." - Serena Maria Daniels

A Daytime Asian ‘Night Market’ Emerges in Eastern Market | Eater Detroit

"At Shed 5 at Eastern Market I was greeted by the aroma of freshly made dumplings, the sizzle of pan-fried noodles, and booths selling chicken and Hmong sausage skewers, banh mi, boba teas, and coconut ice cream during Little Asian Bites’ summer Night Market; although the market was held during daylight for logistical reasons, it still drew hundreds of hungry visitors and gave metro Detroiters a chance to sample cuisine from vendors ranging from popular restaurants to informal family-owned ventures. Little Asian Bites founder Amanda Lee, who began hosting small gatherings to highlight aspects of her Taiwanese heritage and—together with collaborator Frances Barber—launched the inaugural Night Market, framed the event as a community-focused experience rather than strictly a nighttime activity, and said she will discuss future events with Eastern Market organizers with hopes of hosting a market around Lunar New Year." - Serena Maria Daniels

Detroit Cocktail Enthusiasts Will Attempt to Set Record for World’s Largest Whiskey Highball | Eater Detroit

"Scheduled to host the Whisky Experience on April 20, this market shed will be the site of an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest whiskey highball. Organizers plan to dispense a gargantuan cocktail—made with Jim Beam Black and Faygo pop—from a 93-gallon Tom Collins-style container fitted with spigots, and the first 1,000 attendees will be able to sample the concoction. Record-attempt paperwork has been filed with Guinness, though no judge will be present. The benefit event will also feature appetizers and numerous bourbon and whiskey tastings, with proceeds supporting the Luella M. Harden Foundation’s charitable causes, the Leukemia Society of America, and local student scholarships." - Brenna Houck

Excellent market with plenty of fresh produce and food items. Prices on many items was great compared to grocery stores. We bought some fresh apple juice, pierogi, and some soup for quick meals. Everything we ate was good. Plenty of desserts available too. Fresh flowers and lots of plants too.

Great venue at Eastern Market for events. I attended a launch party for a new design company and the space was awesome for serving food and drink, a fashion show, DJ playing music, and presentation space. Really versatile space perfect for a variety of events.

We love going to the farmers market every Saturday! The prices and quality of the fruits and veggies are better than the grocery store, in my opinion. I have my favorite farmers I like to go to. There are also vendors that are there if you just want to go for some fresh air and light shopping. Definitely a good place to shop or just enjoy the fresh air and vibes!

Love downtown Eastern market! Such a great place to come on a Saturday morning and spend a couple hours exploring all the Little treasures in this area. There's wonderful little family-owned restaurants to stop and have breakfast and then all of the local farmers with their beautiful produce. It's a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.

Shed 5 was Amazing, easy to park , easy to unload. Very convienient for vendors loading and unloading , their are huge doors that open up like garage doors so you can pull your carts right in with no hassle. I was a vendor there on sunday November 13th. Yesterday vending there was good, no issues.

I had a great experience today at Eastern market. It was a all things Detroit event. I especially enjoy the brownie Doctor both. They have some of the best brownies I have had in a long time. If you get the chance you should check out the Browning Doctor. You will not regret it..

Always a great shed 5 experience. I love how the entire building is easy to maneuver and has plenty of space for different types of events. I have been here for farmers markets, all things Detroit and company events and it never disappoints.
