After we ordered the hummus appetizer our waitress brought us some complimentary lentil soup. The soup was delicious. The soup has some heat plus great flavors. The hummus was pretty typical. I ordered the ground lamb kebab. The lamb was a little overcooked. We had to find our waitress to place our order.

This is by far my number one favorite restaurant in St. Louis. I am not a guy who often writes reviews for restaurants unless I feel there is something I really need to share. I have been going to this restaurant literally at least once a week for almost two years now and I was never disappointed. The food is authentic Turkish food prepared by the chef Safaa who ran a restaurant business for multiple years in Turkey before he decided to come to the US. I really recommend the Kafta, grilled chicken, beef and lamb baked or grilled. They are all tasty and juicy. If you are a vegetarian (or not) you can also try the Hummus, baba Ghanoush (eggplants with Tahini), and/or labna. Fresh lentil soup and special freshly baked bread with sesame are always served before the meal. With the diversified menu, I rarely feel the need to try something new. I really wish this guy would offer a catering service, but for some reason he wanted to focus only in serving in his restaurant. Waiters are trained, attentive, and polite. Turkish music is always played in the background. It is just an amazing place!!!

The food here was incredible! Authentic Turkish dishes and incredible hummus. The manager or owner greeted us as soon as we walked in, and you could instantly feel his kind Turkish hospitality. The decor and atmosphere of this place is just beautiful with pieces from all over Turkey! The service, however, was very poor. Our server did not seem to care about her tables. At one point, both servers were sitting down at another table eating food, which felt incredibly unprofessional. Additionally, she gave the other table our dish and then when she realized she’d mixed them up, didn’t apologize or say anything about it until we asked where our food was. Another table she was serving had to ask her how they should order food because she took so long to greet them. Honestly it really made this experience disappointing because I’ve experienced Turkish culture and hospitality growing up there, and this was just not it. I have four stars because I want to support the manager/owner (who was very very kind) but I hope they are able to get servers who at the very least, can pretend to care about their job.

Nice atmosphere and decor, definitely somewhere I would come to hang out with friends if I was younger and child free. Food was good, with a few standouts. The Meze appetizer and chicken kebab both knocked it out of the park in my book. Everything else was good, but those stood out as exceptional. Price was mostly reasonable, you could eat there for around 20 bucks a person pretty reasonably. Staff were nice, I didn't have any issues.

We calledat 5 pm, for reservations for 25 at 7:30 on Monday. Who ever answered and said ok. We reach at 7:30 and get seated. The young girl who was by her self attending 2 others tabels came over to us and said I am sorry we dont have other staff and I will be Abel to do what ever I can. The owner just walked by and did not say a word. Now we placed an order which the girl was overwhelmed with not knowing how she was going to handle. We had over 5 orders of lamb chops, and many other things with appetizers etc etc. After serving soup and appetizers which was not in order I picked up all my used dishes and put it on the counter. The order of lamb chops she comes back and say we can only serve 2 cuz we did not prepare it. So now all had to substitute to different choice. Half eating,half waiting for the food and rest are finishing the food. No coordination. Not one time the owner came and apologized and said the management was sorry for the inconvenience we went through. The bill was over $800. Now I could not resist to not call the owner from the back and confront him if this pathetic service. I told him u are a coward hiding in the back and have a young girl as escape goat for your negligence. I did mention I was going go write a bad review. No one enjoyed food. This is not a Turkish returant. This is kind of Iraqi food.

Food great, service great, ambiance informal My daughter and I are trying the various ethnic cuisines and found Sheesh top notched. Definitely will go there again.

Amazing and wonderful and delicious food and amazing service, I recommend this restaurant to everyone wants to try a healthy meal and middle eastern cuisine.

From the music to the service and most definitely the food, you feel like you've traveled thousands of miles overseas. The complimentary soup is savory and comforting!! Lamb chops were super tender!! Kebabs were very flavorful!! Fresh baked bread... who doesn't love fresh bread?!? Place is fantastic and I'll definitely be back every time I visit.

First time trying Turkish food. I never heard of this place before. But we were so impressed with the food they offer- we all get complimentary lentils soup with the Turkish bread fresher out from the oven. We ordered three appetizers: humus, grape leaves and Turkish Kunafa. They were all so delicious and the portions are very generous. Our main entrees are shrimp, mixed grill, and lamp shank. I must say we all LOVED our order! The owner kept offering us the bread whenever he has fresh ones! More than half of us needed boxes to take home! It was Sunday night, so they were not as busy. But I hope more people come out to support their business. We want to come back again for sure!

The food was absolutely delicious and an entree came with a ton of food so basically another dinner at home! The vibes are great with lots of seating and nice decor. The service was nice and we got our food quickly with complementary lentil soup. We didn't know payment was at the front though but that was also quick

Sheesh is a must experience restaurant on South Grand! The restaurant has such a great atmosphere and the food is delicious! My favorite dishes are: Appetizer Combo, Grape Leaves, Beef Doner, & Mixed Grill!

Wonderful experience at Sheesh! Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. (Though the tables are a little short for tall individuals) Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. We didn't need a reservation for 6:45 on a Thursday night. The lentil soup was a perfect starter. The combo appetizer was delicious with the red pepper spread being my personal favorite. The falafel was just right!! Would definitely recommend the lamb shank. It comes with tasty rice and was so tender. Fell off the bone! Will definitely be coming back!

Dang. Great food. Large quantities. Well spiced. What more can you ask for?? We did not "eat in" so we cannot attest to the vibe and ambiance of dining in. We took their food to-go to a picnic before a Muny show. There were 4 of us and we couldn't have been happier or more full. 2 Tawuk (Chicken) dishes, 1 Mixed Grill order and 1 KUZU (lamb shank) plate . The KUZU was so big that they had to split it into 2 to-go boxes. The Hummus appetizer was awesome. We ordered salads without knowing it was included in the entree. I think we slept through the first act of the Muny (just kidding). Support this local establishment. Great people. Great food.

The restaurant itself is super cute and super authentically Turkish. The food was delicious- I highly recommend trying the bread and humus, and the rice I got with my chicken was superb! However, our waitress was super disinterested- she had an AirPod in the whole time and basically never checked on us once we got our food. I think we waited 20 minutes after we finished eating to get our check, and even then we had to ask another employee. Overall I would go back but would be cognizant of the service issues.

The food is excellent and so is the decor! You get bread and soup for free upon entering. And the apple tea is perfect. Side note- they do not have a liquor license and the only water is bottled but otherwise it's perfect.

This place has so much potential! They have some incredible food like the Mixed Grill and the Ice Cream Kunafa that I would definitely recommend. But they also had a Lamb Biryani that was just a leg of lamb over rice (they include other things on the side too which will be in the pictures) and was not seasoned well compared to the other meats. The service was a bit sporadic as they seemed to be a bit disorganized. The ambiance is great homage to the culture and receiving a lentil soup upon arrival was a nice touch reminiscent to Arabic hospitality. This place could easily be a 5 star place with just a few tweaks!

Finally something in STL with flavor! The lamb chops were particularly good, nothing was bad.

Great ambiance! The light fixtures and whole setup of the restaurant made you feel like you were not in St Louis. The staff was all very nice and we got our food within a reasonable amount of time. I felt like I got a fair amount of food for my meal except I didn't get that much meat on my entree which would have been nice to get a little more. There was lentil soup and zucchini soup that both came with the meal which definitely added value to the 17.99 pretax price point. I got the tawuk and it was very savory between the well prepared chicken, the rice, and the cream sauce that was served with it. Lentil soup was also very good - was a good level of creamy and had a small kick to it. The zucchini soup was alright but nothing to write home about.

The food, service and ambiance was great! I loved the soup (they automatically brought upon seating), hummus and our tuwak chicken was delish! Next time I need to try coffee and dessert. My only hang up is their only cold beverage offering was water and coke in single serve plastic. We asked for tap water but it was not an option.

Ahhh I've really missed Middle Eastern food! This place has the food, the ambiance and the service! The food tasted just as I remember. I lived in Adana, Turkey and they had an Adana Kebab on the menu so I had to try it. I was so impressed with it!!! They even offer the full tea and Turkish coffee presentation! I was wowed by this place and can't wait to come back!

SHEESH IS SHIT! So a buddy of mine and I decided to go there as a treat for my birthday. NEVER AGAIN!!! No greetings, no menus, no welcoming from the host. Just absolute zero service :-(

Sheesh is a Turkish restaurant located on S Grand. It's very ornate inside. Great built in seating areas create a nice atmosphere and they add all types of ornate tableware to bring it together. Great for groups and shared dining experiences. The food is tasty and the apple tea is good too! Service was a little slow. We had to call our young server over for every part of the service, but we enjoyed ourselves. They provide a large complimentary bowl of lentil soup. It is delicious, but way too much before a meal. A small cup would be better. They also include an eggplant stew and large cucumber salad with the meals. It ends up being soooo much food. I hope they aren't losing money on all of the extra stuff. Good food and atmosphere. Recommend! .

The food here will always be nice, fresh, and tasty. Their garlic sauce is superb and the service was attentive. BE AWARE that they've changed the decor and it no longer has the Turkish bazaar theme. I was so disappointed because the decor really made the experience, but was told it was too hard to clean, which is also understandable.

Second time coming back to Sheesh and still such a great experience. I had the chicken steak and also some of the lamb chops. Their rice was so nicely done, the lamb and chicken was tender, juicy and absolutely seasoned to the gods. Honestly one of my favorite Turkish eateries.

I enjoyed this place but not my meal. Everyone elses meal was what I liked. I choose the lamb special with grilled eggplant, tomato sauce and bread thinking it would all be separate. The lamb was succulent but the taste of the overall dish was not to my liking. I recommend the chicken dish with rice or the lamb bryani. Those were delicious. The set up is that of chill vibes. Overall good choice as I have not had this food before.

This place is amazing. Very authentic and great ambience. Seating resembles Turkish dining. Went with my Turkish friend and she said the kebabs taste just like back at home. I got the sheesh tawook which was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. My friends got the pistachio and Sheesh kabob which they loved as well. We also split the appetizer combo which I would recommend if you go with a group of people. We all also got a lentil soup and salad complementary and each entree comes with an okra stew as well!

We came in on a Saturday night and the restaurant had colorful lights dancing on the walls. The interior has a warm, unique, authentic Turkish ambiance. You feel immersed into the culture as soon as you sit down. Heck, they even have a bidet in their bathrooms! Our server was kind and started us off with a bottle of water and lentil soup. We ordered the combo patter, the tawuk, and mixed grill. Everything was 5/5! Great vibe, great food.. come check it out!

Shockingly, I heard about this Turkish restaurant because of a Facebook Puzza group. They serve a Turkish pizza that I did not get to try because I filled up on baba ghanouj and these fried cheese wraps. Delicious! Oh I also drank a whole pot of the apple tea so I didn't make it to dessert, but the table near us came in specifically for dessert and it looked delectable. The food was excellent. The service was a little lacking, we were served the wrong food twice, but no big deal. They were lovely and I can't wait to go back. If I could this would be 4.5 stars.

Small location looking from outside but the inside is massive. Architecture is amazing but the food is even marvelous. The lamb biryana, chicken/lamb specials were absolutely delicious and meats were fall-off the bone tender. All 3 dips were excellent but I preferred the chickpea. Wonderful spot for dinner with friends and if you need a pick me up the Turkish coffee is there to get you rolling. This is a must try in STL. Keep up the great work guys!

Beautiful restaurant - even better food. I am originally from STL, and have been living in Boston for 4 years now. This is my first time coming home in a couple years and Sheesh was on my list of restaurants to visit while I was in town. The quality of the food is still superb, and the guest service is spectacular. We were greeted promptly, accommodated, and treated kindly. Let's not even behind with the food quality - delectable at every bite. Thank you, Sheesh, for always being a place we can look forward to!!

The ambiance of the place was really cute but the food was bad. gave me food poisoning and the only good thing there was the tea. the service is very mid, you can get a good waiter or bad.

Cute place but no. I had eaten there on Thursday and now I have food poisoning from the chicken. Thay chicken was undercooked and I didn't even realize while I was there. Definitely NOT A SAFE PLACE TO GO! Who ever reads this be careful and look through your food. (The tea is amazing but the food poisoning is NOT) also it took forever to even get the food which then should've made sure the chicken was COOKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH and the waiter only checked up on us once? Terrible place don't go here

Can we just acknowledge what this place had to go through a few years back during COVID. They had a burglary and shooting here and it was so sad to hear. The food here is amazing and if you consider coming definitely get the naan (pita bread) here it is delectable.

The food was delicious. The prices were more than reasonable for the delicious meal we got! This is a great location to stop by on you way through STL. Our waitress explained all the meals to us and gave us excellent recommendations. The decor was so cute too! A great atmosphere, fits in well in the neighborhood and family friendly.

Wow. We've ordered Sheesh a few times for carry-out, but to have it at the restaurant is a totally different experience. First off, the restaurant is beautiful, and they have a wonderful outdoor patio where we sat last night. Second, everything is served on the most beautiful Turkish dishes that were imported from Turkey. We began with a lentil soup that was so flavorful and balanced that I could have eaten just that and have been plenty satisfied. We then had the hummus, labneh, and baba ghanoush trio served with their bread, which is almost pastry-like. Delish. Entrees pictured were all to die for. For those of us less familiar with halal restaurants, they do not serve alcohol here. The food is so delicious, however, that it deserves to be the star and sole focus!

All of the food we had was delicious. We especially enjoyed the lentil soup and sheesh tawuk. I felt that the meal was sufficiently large without getting an appetizer although the options looked very good. No complaints regarding the service, everything was timely.

Had a birthday dinner here for a friend and it was the cutest place. It was also really tasty. The appetizer trio was where it was at. The bread was perfect and the dips were all perfectly made. Everyone's meat dish was tasty and tender and a good amount of food. They even gave us a complimentary bowl of soup to start with and that was really yummy. Our wait guy was so good with the best attitude. They even sliced up our birthday cake for us and put a candle on it and put it on separate plates. Great place. Would definitely go back.

Absolutely quick seating and service when I arrived, with lentil soup as we were sat down. A lot of lentil soup in my experience keeps them whole but this is blended smooth with a lovely spice mixture. And the decor and feel is very cozy. The lighting around the tables are quite beautiful and the appetizer combo that I got at the table had very good bread with a good assortment of dips. The waitress who seated me was very kind and I can't say there's anything more that can make this place shine. I'll definitely have to come back here to try more!!

My husband and I finally convinced our kids to try this restaurant and it was amazing! The interior was surprisingly beautiful, don't be fooled by the humble exterior. Our server was attentive and kind! As soon as we were seated we each got a complimentary lentil soup that was so good. One of my daughters is a vegetarian and they had so many options for her, and lots of options that included meat for everyone else. Everything we got was piping hot and delicious! The Turkish apple tea was another delightful surprise, would definitely recommend.

I call it an experience because it IS and experience! I was sold on this place after leaving another restaurant and even though i was full as a tick, I was determined to order something just to have an excuse to go in. At that time I ordered dessert and Apple tea and vowed to come back for dinner. I didn't think it fair to write a review then based on just dessert and hot Turkish Apple tea, so finally I can share a full dinner experience. The decor in this place is so on theme, I would just want to hang out here and enjoy the bright colors, the fun laid back atmosphere and the communal dining sitting areas that lend themselves to conversation over steaming plates of Turkish cuisine. I started off with appetizers of hummus and gozlema, which was a fried pastry pocket stuffed with fresh spinach, cheese and Turkish spices. For $4.99 a piece, how could I NOT order more than 1 appetizer at THAT price? The hummus was brought out with a big pizza-sized plate of Turkish bread that was nice and hot. The hummus was hummus--- not too spectacular. However the gozlema appetizer was delish- crispy yet flaky crust stuffed with hot spinach and cheese and it was phenomenal. I enjoyed every bite. I was torn between the biryani and the kebabs so I ordered both! The chicken biryani and one a la carte ground lamb kabob. Both were brought out in elaborate copper covered plates. Quite the presentation! I was surprised to see the biryani had been cooked and them stuffed in a mold and then plated. Wasn't expecting a star shaped mound of biryani but hey I was in Turkey (or at least it felt that way!) it had a slight differences from Indian biryani with the addition of peas, dried cranberries and a deeper richer flavor and aromatic spices than I have had in the past. But it was good. Chicken was on the way to being a tad over cooked, but overall it was good. It was served with a yogurt sauce which was different, and the yogurt sauce was a more intensified version of tzatiki where the dill, garlic and lemon was very strong. You didn't need much of it to add to your dish. The only reason this place got 4 Stars was the lamb kabob was a little dry, the yogurt sauce helped it, but I don't think I would order it again, although it was presented beautifully with charred vegetables. From my first trip I was highly recommended to try the kunafa dessert, which is a 30-minute wait, so this time I told the server at the beginning I wanted Turkish kunafa for dessert. This dessert is relatively simple- cheese that has been covered in shredded pastry dough baked and covered with warm syrup and pistachios. The cheese has a mi flavor and even tho it doesn't sound very appealing, it is delicious. I am not a hot tea person in restaurants, but I don't care if it is 100 degrees outside I will not pass on the Apple tea here! It was recommended when I had dessert here and I had to get it again. The presentation alone will make you want to order this! For a whopping $2.99 you get a uniquely different and flavorful tea served in a copper tea pot with matching mini tea cup and a mini covered bowl filled with sugar cubes, all on a copper tray. If you have a tea lover in your life just go here for a cup of tea and an appetizer or dessert. The service is good. Not bad not spectacular but good, so nothing to report there. If you haven't checked this place out please do, at least once. The experience will definitely transport you to another place and time during your visit, even if you eventually have to walk out the door to the reality that awaits you on Grand Ave.

We were there saturday evening at 7:55 party of 6. Got the lentil soup, ordered 2 appetizer which was served on time and in addition ordered 3 entrees. Around 9:30 the one of the two servers came and informed they are out of rice and was offered fries or bread. We requested if one of the entree could be canceled and would take the rest with fries. She mentioned order has been made and cannot be canceled. We waited another 15mins and asked her about the order she said it's still being made. Unfortunately, we had waited enough and had to leave after paying for out appetitizer The attitude of server was very rude.

The soup is flavorful but if you don't like beans you might find the consistency weird. We ordered the Baba Ghanouj. It was very good. We enjoyed it the most. We also ordered the chicken special and the beef special. The beef special was soupy and didn't look appetizing. The chicken special was better than the beef. Kinda underwhelming. Bread is good. Cucumber salad is good.

We have been there a couple of times and we liked the food and ambiance. Last Saturday, we went there with our visiting family. I suggested this place to them, having had good food and ambiance in mind. I was terribly wrong and ashamed in front of my family. The customer service was terrible. They only had two servers, and they were so rude to us; they didn't even seem to care about their customers. We placed our order, and after 1.5 hours the server came and told us that they were out of rice and could replace the rice with fries. Who wants to eat kebabs with fries? Anyway, we agreed and waited another 30 more minutes, but no food came. I asked them to cancel the order if they could. But the server did not agree and we waited another 15 minutes, after which they said the food was still being made, then she went inside and spoke to somebody about the cancellation of the order. Finally we spend 2 hrs and left without eating food, guess what all other restaurants were closed by that time. We we came home and had to make food for my guest in the midnight. If you want to experience a real-life Karen's diner, I strongly suggest this place. I suggest Yelp keep an option to give 0 stars. I was shocked to see a place for a tip on the check.

Kind of a silly wordplay name for a restaurant that has a fun/exotic atmosphere and great food for our meal, which made for a really nice evening out with friends. The interior is colorful and highly styled. And having everything served on copper dinnerware and glasses adds to the faux exotic feel. It's fun. Our food was very tasty. You will not find most of these dishes at other non-Turkish restaurants, not even at other Mediterranean restaurants. Of course there are some dishes found elsewhere, but most are local to or customized as Turkish. But they were all of high quality. Only thing was that many of the entrees needed a side to round them out, and the menu doesn't really indicate that or offer a ton of sides. Service was quite polite, but we didn't see our server for very long stretches. In fact, I had to find him to get our water pitcher (copper of course) refilled. But overall, I thought it was a great meal and event.
