6 Essential Ethiopian Eateries in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Primarily a grocery stocking spices, legumes, and other East African staples, I pick up to-go servings of hearty meat and lentil stews from Shega Foods' take-out window and complete the meal with a bag of fresh injera baked on site." - Stacy Brooks

As someone living in a state where very few Ethiopians reside, I’m always looking for Injera delivery options. ShegaFoods checks all my boxes. As an Ethiopian, I know good Injera when I taste it — and ShegaFoods’ Injera is the closest to authentic I’ve ever had in the U.S. It’s fresh, well-preserved, and genuinely traditional. Their express shipping is impressively fast — I received mine the very next day! But what impressed me most was the packaging: five Injeras in one plastic bag, each separated by a layer to prevent sticking. Everything was wrapped in aluminum foil with ice packs to keep it fresh during delivery. I highly recommend ShegaFoods to anyone like me who can't make Injera at home but still craves that authentic taste. Plus, they’re very responsive if you have any questions. Great service all around!

I recently ordered injera from Shega foods and was thoroughly impressed with their delivery and packaging standards. The delivery was prompt, arriving well within the estimated timeframe. The courier service was efficient and professional, ensuring that my package reached me without any issues. What truly stood out, however, was the meticulous attention to packaging. My items arrived in pristine condition, thanks to the well-thought-out protective materials used. The packaging was secure which I greatly appreciated. Everything was neatly arranged and clearly labeled, making the unboxing experience both satisfying and convenient. Overall, shega foods has set a high bar for delivery and packaging excellence. Their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is evident, and I will certainly be returning for future purchases. Highly recommended!

Selection of in season produce was slim and disappointing. Inflated prices on produce, meats and freshly made foods such as salads and their salad bar. Not deaf friendly (staff did not know any sign nor did they provide help). Would only return if a blizzard was preventing me going to other markets in the area.

I conferenced in my grandmother thinking that the language barrier issue would be solved but to my dismay; it only got worse. The staff member had the nerve to hang up on the call and I called back to ask why she hang up on me; she was not apologetic at all, she said the store was closing as if that was a good excuse. I'm just appalled by the lack of customer service skills that Ethiopian owned stores and restaurants/bars display. I simply wanted to buy my grandmother the spices she needed as a Christmas present but I'm greatful for the experience. I will never ever go to Shega foods ever again, by the way there was 30 minutes left before the store was scheduled to close.

Gluten-free (all teff) injera. Very inexpensive. Toppings, either all-veggie or with meats, also very inexpensive. 5 pieces of injera plus 5 veggie toppings cost less than $10. All delicious. Be aware, though, the salad is VERY spicy (contains small green chilies). Shega also has a selection of clothing and other items, and a great selection of various dried lentils, spices, and other Ethiopian food ingredients. Very helpful and friendly proprietor.

Shega store is really unreasonable price increases for example one pound beef $ 7 :00 before, now it increases to $9:00 immediately . I understood cobid-19 in some ways affects but $2: 00 difference it is really to much.
