Amazing food, world-class beer and great service. It doesn't get any better than this in DC, and, to be honest, on the entire East Coast. It's so great that it's hard for me to eat/drink elsewhere. NRG just does it better than everyone else, from the top down to the amazing staff pouring/serving/interacting with customers. Great people make this a great spot for a quick beer, or a long meal experience with friends.

Google
Wow!!!!!! The perfect find for craft beer lovers! And for all of us there are fantastic IPA'S, Stouts, Sours, Lagers, All the styles! There are 6 different restaurants you can order from, we had the taco HI F Taco Shop which are some of the best tacos we've had in a long time. The staff is so friendly it's refreshing! Stoked about this find will be A DC fav for sure! Well done Shelter. This concept is Awesome!!!!!

Admittedly, when I read that Shelter was a product of the folks behind Churchkey and the Sovereign, I knew I had to pay a visit. Fan of EITHER of those mighty fine establishments (or of beer in general)? Seek Shelter. Opening with a “limited” selection of draft/cask and cans/bottles for now, you might still find yourself fumbling over which beer(s) to order much like I did. “Taster” sized glasses are also an option provided you’re unsure of that sour you’d heard about. Also-also, Shelter has compostable cups for to-go beers which will come in handy especially if you’re getting takeout from Red Apron or Hi/Fi. Ordering comes way of tabletop QR code scan to access The Roost menu. There you’ll find Shelter’s as well as additional drink options (think wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic) and food too. Don’t worry, it doesn’t read Cheesecake Factory style by any means but you’ll be hard pressed to have just “a drink” after viewing all that’s available. Service was standout and a big takeaway from my visit. Chelsea was our table’s beer whisperer for the evening, sharing both informed suggestions and opinionated alternatives with each order. This was per my request, of course, and naturally made the visit memorable. Like I said before, seek Shelter... Beer: $3 - $15

Shelter is from the creators of Churchkey, a popular beer spot in Northwest D.C. Shelter is on the bottom floor of a new apartment building in Hill East Southeast and part of a culinary clubhouse called The Roost. Shelter has a large indoor space with a long bar and a large outdoor patio with all types of seating. They serve a rotating list of craft beers, sour ales and ciders. Because of their diverse menu, they cater to all types of preferences. I love sour ale and they have two on tap weekly. Since it's part of The Roost, you can order any food item from the other shops from tacos to burgers to sushi.

Google
This place is amazing. I love the community and most importantly the staff. They have nice restaurants and seating is comfortable. I love the fact that they are family and kids friendly. I am so happy that DC is changing for the better.

Google
Shelter is a wonderful beer bar inspired by the folks at Churchkey & Bluejacket. They boast 50 temperature-controlled taps with an amazing rotating selection of local beers. Having this fantastic beer garden on Capitol Hill is a boon for the neighborhood.

We stopped in just passing through on our way to the airport and were impressed by the wide beer selections. I tried a Kölsch beer from Halfway Crooks Brewery (based off staff recommendation) and loved it!

Yelp
Shelter is awesome! They have a great beer selection with ~30 taps and great variety of styles, including often at least one smoke beer (a personal favorite). Beers are always from small, craft producers (sometimes foreign ones) so you won't find any macro beers here (like Bud), and prices are a little higher to match this. Beers are usually served in either 13 oz, 16 oz, or 20 oz pours (depending on the beer) so definitely double-check the menu before you order. You can order either at the bar or via your phone. The atmosphere depends on the time of day and who is there -- it's a pretty spare, modern space, so it's all about the other people there. For example, you might get some people working on laptops or get families with kids. Shelter is part of The Roost food hall so you can order food from any of the stalls there. They have four TVs for sports but they aren't huge, so you have to sit at the bar for the best view. If you get beer here, you can take it elsewhere in the food hall, including to Caruso's next door. Service is fine and pretty quick, if they aren't busy. Pro tip: visit on Federal holidays (like Presidents Day) when they often discount some beers to $5, which is a steal for the great stuff they have on draft. Check their Instagram account in advance to confirm if they are running this promotion.

Yelp
Jay was our bartender, he was quick and made drinks with a smile. The bar seating is comfortable, there's ample room and lots of tv screens, playing a variety of sports games. We'll be back to check out their other options.

Yelp
Nice place with not too crazy expensive drinks and casual chill vibes to hang out with friends or even alone on the patio with your dog. Love that they bring the drinks to you and you order on your phone

Yelp
Consistently excellent beer selections, choices galore, options on size of pour, and cocktails that are equally on-point. If you're on or near Capitol Hill Southeast, there is no reason to go anywhere else for a brew.

Yelp
I am so over the Roost at this point, and it has everything to do with Shelter. The cocktails are sub-par, too small, and way overpriced. Yesterday I ordered an aperol spritz. The drink was way out of balance, no fizz to speak of, and it came in a small wine glass, so I literally had about 3 sips before it was done. After tax and the 20% tip the app defaults to, my total was $16.90 for one crappy drink. This is not an isolated incident, but a trend. The wine pours are small and expensive; if you order sparkling wine, it's more likely than not going to be flat; and they think they deserve a 20% tip when the customer does all the work because you're ordering with the app. No thanks. I have had enough negative experiences that I will start steering myself and my friends elsewhere.

Yelp
I enjoyed this place. It's a great place to watch a game or hang out with some friends for a Happy Hour. You pay as you go which makes it even more convenient. If your looking for a good place in Capitol Hill with some good food options and draft/ wine selections give this place a try.

Yelp
The drinks here are pretty good. They have a wide variety of options for beers, wines and cocktails. The service is pretty fast and the prices are typical for the area with most cocktails ranging between $7 and $15.

Dank brews and food? You know i'm down! good sized outdoor seating for covid times, can't wait to get back! Lots of different food and drink options from the vendors inside. Really nice setup.

Yelp
Fun place to go trough pandemic , very nice outdoor patio , great ambience , the beers selection were, very good if you are not a beer person , no problem the wines by the glass were pretty good as well . You are able to order food from the Roost ( has pop up restaurant or chefs ), as right there are few different restaurants proving food there now , salads , Burger, pizza ..... I order some salad and a burger , they were sooooo good and the service pretty was fast .

Yelp
Fantastic outdoor patio with full service. You're able to order from a variety of eateries inside including Mexican, burgers, and more. I had the nachos and loved them. Will certainly be going back.

Yelp
My only complaint is they need to invest in some sort of online reservation system as they only have a show up and be put on a list at the moment, which is not ideal in a covid/cold environment.
